3-0 out of 5 stars med deck
This was required for my RN program, I purchased it and I think it is a good source but isn't very convenient because you have to pull the cards out of a box that just fits the cards. Some meds are not in this as well and I had to purchase another reference so that I have all information for my clinical setting. So it was pretty costly due to the fact I had to purchase 2 reference materials and would like to have just purchased one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Pharmacy
This is the absolute bible of pharmacy. This is a good reference for generic/brand names, drug class, drug interactions, etc. There are also some very useful drug charts and treatment guidelines in the back of the book. However, it is a little weak on OTC drugs. Overall, this is an excellent portable medical reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Clinical Drug Information Resource
As a clinical pharmacy practitioner with a doctor of pharmacy degree, this is the one reference I reach for time and time again. The monographs are clear, concise and easy to use. The appendicies and comparative drug charts are excellent. There are also summarized guidelines, protocols, drug interactions, etc. for quick reference. I highly recommend this handbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars The pharmacists' bible
I think every American pharmacist and pharmacy student should have a copy of this book. The appendices with charts and labs are also very useful info.

5-0 out of 5 stars the pharmacists' bible
Every pharmacist should have this book. There is nothing more to say.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Drug Reference
As an NP student I needed a drug reference with all of the information I learned in pharmacology, to safely prescribe medications. This was it. Plus herbal interactions if available. It also is organized alphabetically, which is great, because you just go to the page you need -- no need for an index. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for nursing students
This book is highly recommended for both classroom and clinical work. I have found it to be helpful on many levels. The book reviews drugs as well as drug classes. Each entry outlines:
Mechanism of action
Uses
Side effects and adverse reactions
Contraindications
Pharmacokenetics
Interactions
Possible nursing diagnosis
Nursing considerations (such as assessing, administering, teaching patient and family)
In addition to the entries the appendix offeres a wealth of info including high alert drugs, formulas for dosage calcualation, FDA pregnancy categories, and much more. Of course, as with any drug book, you can expect some drugs to be missing as so many new drugs are introduced that it is hard to keep up. Nonetheless, Mosby's book is well written and easy to navigate.

1-0 out of 5 stars not up-to date!

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior to other References
The Drug Information Handbook for Advanced Practice Nurses is the Nurse Practitioners premiere drug reference. Drugs are arranged alphabetically by both generic and brand name. Each drug is discussed at it's generic listing. Brand names give the generic name and page number allowing quick reference. The content is very encompassing with nearly all new and old drugs referenced. The usual categories of drug name, therapeutic category, use, etc are included. I find the section on patient information and instruction most helpful in discussing agents with patients.

Indices include controlled substance (helpful in states where APN's cannot prescribe controlled substances) and pharmacologic category.

There are over 200 pages of appendices including guidelines and comparative lists and charts.

The size of the book makes it easy to carrry.

This is my third yearly purchase of the The Drug Information Handbook and second year for Advanced Practice Nurses version. Our service bought 12 copies.
