5-0 out of 5 stars Best radiology book on the market, great for nat'l boards
I graduated chiropractic school this year. I used this book in school and found this it to be filled with lots of info on soft and hard tissue pathology. The radiographs are excellent in this book. Every condition from spinal bifida occulta to fibrous dysplasia is described with the utmost detail. Every chapter has a helpful summary that summarizes all the important points of each condition. I also used this book to help me study for Part II, III and IV of the National Boards. However, if you really want a great book to study for the national boards do what my study group and I did, get the following:
National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Volume 1) and (Volume 2)
The questions in these last 4 study guides are right on with the kind of questions encountered on the National Boards. These 5 books contributed greatly to helping my study group and I pass the boards. For example the Part IV Study Guide had great sections on chiropractic technique, clinical impression and x-ray diagnosis. It presented the questions just like on the exam. These 5 books are must buys.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY!
I highly recommend these books to anyone that wants a firm foundation in radiology. The chapters follow a simple, logical progression that first time readers will enjoy. The pictures and diagrams that are included allow the student to get a true feeling of the various radiological findings associated with disease processes. A must for any student's personel library! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have book!!
I bought this book, thinking it was just another massage technique book, but instead I found a wealth of even more useful information. This book, actually is not "exactly" about massage. If you visit the authors' home page, you will be able to read his own explanation. (Simply search for "Bernard Schatz" on any search engine)

This book is about soft tissue manipulation. I have used the techniques explained within on myself and on others, with great success. I have eliminated my own constant knee and shoulder pain, and I have begun helping my husband to overcome his sciatica. This is a must have for all those who want to treat and help themselves and others.

For those looking for self-help, it provides excellent verbal illustrations on how to treat areas of your body that you thought were unreachable, such as your lower back and trapezius muscle in your upper back.

I keep this book at hand at all times. (It's sitting by my computer monitor as I type this) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
This book gives a good and detailed explanation of the the human skeletal structure. The type and function of a joint, the funtions of the ligaments arount a joint, the functions of the muscles around a joint. Not only do the authors explain how each and every joint specifically works but also how the joints work together to do a specific movement along with which muscles are involved. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kinesiology Textbook for Joint Mechanics!
As an Instructor of Musculoskeletal anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology classes, Chiropractor, and author of books on the musculoskeletal system, I buy and read most every book published on the subject of kinesiology. Donald Neumann's book on Kinesiology is hands-down the absolute best kinesiology textbook out for joint mechanics. His book is clearly written in a straight-forward manner that makes it accessible to most anyone and yet it is also the most thorough book on this subject. Further, Elisabeth Rowan's illustrations are the best I have ever seen in a kinesiology text; they are sharp and clear, enabling 3-Dimensional movement to be easily visualized on a 2-Dimensional page. I believe that this book is a must for any student of the musculoskeletal system!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book about kinesiology

good for myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excels in explaining 3D motion on the 2D page
Very clear explanations of movement systems. The book is divided into regions of the body and a chapter on gait. 3-0 out of 5 stars A real snore!
I bought this to review for the NCBTMB exam, but found more direct information in other materials. I thought the authors were just too wordy and not concise enough in explaining their particular modalities. Even the pictures seemed blurred and smudgy, just like the prose.

5-0 out of 5 stars important and clinically useful info...
This book is an eye opener! It was a required text as part of my tDPT program and I have used it many times since for other courses and for clinical assistance, too. I've learned far more about signs/symptoms which would indicate systemic problems vs the type of ortho problem the patient was referred to PT for initially. Very helpful text...should be on every PT's shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Differential Diagnosis - prescription: must reading
Goodman and Snyder have compiled a very readable text on differential diagnosis. There are numerous illustrations and tables to augment the text. Important concepts are presented several times to reinforce their importance to the reader. This text would be a valuable addition to any physical therapist's library, especially those therapists who routinely receive "evaluate and treat" referrals from nonspecialists.

4-0 out of 5 stars PT
Catherine Goodman provides physical therapists with a valuable reference to be utilized in the differential diagnosis of patients. She has developed easy to follow tables and charts that help the therapist identify alternate sources of pain and dysfunction that should be analyzed when patients don't get better in the usual manner. Well organized and easy to you. A must own for every clinic.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good supplement book for massage therapists
This is a good supplemental book for professional massage therapists and bodyworkers as it lists symptoms that are mimicked by several conditions with the major concentration on musculoskeletal conditions as well as some systemic conditions. Is that back pain or a kidney infection? Learn to tell the difference with this book by being able to ask the client more questions to narrow it down. I would like to have seen it as a thicker, more comprehensive text. It's about 1 inch or more thick. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Golly Miss Molly!!
Check this book out if you want a good book to teach you how to measure joint motion. I still have an earlier version of this book I got in PT school and keep it on my desk- good as a reference for those joints you rarely measure but crop up now and then. I give it 5 stars. Also check out "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution" if you treat a lot of back pain patients.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable
I got an earlier edition of this book in Physical Therapy school and it was invaluable in teaching the finer points of goniometry. I constantly used it as a source of information, until I became comfortable with measuring joint range of motion. It has clear pictures and overall is a great reference book for anyone who has to evaluate joint ranges of motion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like NAPRAPATHY
Dr Oakley Smith developed the science of Naprathy over 100 years ago. The information and techniques sounds a lot like NAPRAPATHY.
There is a National College in Chicago that teaches this science.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great explanations, great reading
Most people are familiar with the spinal manipulations of Chiropractors and Osteopaths but most are unfamiliar with somatic techniques and how they differ. Instead of quick movements to "adjust" the back, it involves slower techniques designed to help the body to realign the vertebrae correctly using its own natural actions and reactions. Jeffrey Maitland has thoroughly researched the area of spinal manipulation and with the help of Chiropractors, Osteopaths, and Rolfers has put together this text on techniques that can be understood by anyone. The book is designed for those who want a better understanding of their back, how different problems originate, and how to resolve those problems. This does not mean that you will never need to see an Osteopath or Chiropractor, but you may be able to resolve many basic problems yourself. Of course you can't work on your own back and so the techniques better enable you to help others. These are simple, slow, safe, body aware techniques and that makes this a highly recommended book for anyone who wants to understand the back, how it works, and how to live with theirs or those who want to add additional techniques to their knowledge base.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spinal Manipulation Made Simple
Working as a physical therapist and acupuncturist with some education in manual therapy/osteopathy,a couple of years working with dry-needling and bodywork on triggerpoints, I find this little book extremely useful in daily practice.
Shifting from high-velocity techniques to these soft-tissue/assisted release- techniques ,gives very good predictable results with greatly reduced risk of tissue-damage on our patients.
Thorough explanations of spinal mechanics, testing and release-tecniques for joint fixations in the totalcolumna gives any bodyworker/therapist the possibility to release painful facet restrictions after a very short study/workperiod.This little seemingly modest text should give value for several expensive workshops and courses.
Releasing the overlying triggerpoints in paravertebral muscles simultaneously giving the fixed joint an impetus towards normal position is elegant, efficient and largely as painfree as any release of triggerpoints. Thank you very much Jeffrey Maitland!

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Accessible Book on this subject Yet!
This book is easy, reader friendly and accessible for somatic practitioners to understand clearly what one is feeling both at the boney and tissue levels. Jeff has given us his years of practicing this in distilling the information of spinal biomechanics into linguistically and technically clear steps for easing joint fixations and facet restrictions anywhere along the spine via soft tissue techniques and a whole body approach. Excellent drawings and photographs accompany the text for even further clarity. The anatomy is all there plus easy ways to understand what to do even when you don't understand why. The book is a tour of every facet of the spine from sacrum to occiput in the possible things one might feel and wonder what the heck to do about it rather than vague mashing around. Included is the constant reference to working with the whole body/person. Anyone "working" on bodies would benefit from having this manual and keeping it close at hand. ... Read more
