4-0 out of 5 stars Read it more then once!
This book is the classic PNF text. Knott and Voss are the originals for the use of this technique. The book can be confusing at times to read, but read it...then apply the techniques. Then go back and review the techniques again. This text is timeless, you will refer to it often. This is a skill that you develop over many years, and continually improve in. It is the best technique out there! I have been applying this technique for over 20 years, and am still learning and getting better!

4-0 out of 5 stars PNF, Patterns and Techniques
I found this book to be filled with valid information but difficult to understand. Some exposure to PNF techniques is necessary to be able to use this book effectively. However, with some exposure this book is a useful tool for those who treat movement dysfunctions. It is very clinical and functional. The pictures are helpful for body and hand positions. The command sections are also helpfu. This book is an asset to any therapist's reference collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great text to learn chiropractic technique
I recently graduated chiropractic college and found this book to be one of the main sources to help me learn chiropractic technique. The pictures are great. It shows you how to set up and what the direction of torque is. I used this to study for the National Boards Part 2, 3 and 4. It also has a great section on how show how to translate a PRS-SP Gonstead listing into a National or Medicare listing. This section alone helped me a lot on the boards. I also used the following study guides for the preparing for the Chiropractic National Boards:
National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Diagnostic Imaging) Volume 1
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Case Management and Technique Practical) Volume 2 by Patrick Leonardi
These study guides helped me tremendously on the boards. They prepared me for the type of questions to get ready for. They also helped me to know which sections I was weak in before taking the boards. These 5 books helped me greatly in preparation for taking the boards. Buying these books are definitely better than taking over the boards again.

4-0 out of 5 stars "The Book Rules"
Ok, I have not "yet" finished Dr. Bergman's compilation. However, I must say that I have a unique insight into its origins, namely its editor, Thomas Bergmann. As a student of Northwestern Health Sciences University, I am privilaged to attend Dr. Bergmann's Methods III lecture and laboratory several times a week. I also am fortunate enough to sit in on his Principles and Philosophy of Chiropractic lectures. These experiences have taught me a great deal about Chiropractic science and practice in just a short few weeks as a trimester 3/10 student here at NWHS. I have learned a lot so far and continue to learn more every day. I believe Dr. bergmann to be a giant in the field of Chiropractic Technique. While my opinion may be swayed a bit and my history in the field limited, this is my opinion. Don't believe me? Buy the book!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Chiropractic and rehabilitation are a natural fit!
This book includes the core materials from which Dr. Liebenson crafted LACC's 3 year rehabilitation diplomate program. I attended the program here in Chicago (96 to 99), and found this book to be an invaluable supplement to those materials.

Each chapter is written by a specialist in that topic, and includes outcome assessment, Janda's assessment of muscular imbalance, the McKenzie technique, and the numerous chapters on active treatment protocols. The sections on self-stretches, patient education, and especially Chapter 18, the "Active Rehab Protocols" will take you step-by-step in analysis and management of a wide spectrum of complaints from acute to chronic.

The only thing that could be better would be the next edition, or by taking the 30 classes from LACC. This book is a must for every pracitioner who wants to improve their results with the variety of disorders that present to us each day. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A quintessential guide for chiropractic physicians
Dr. Liebenson's book is an excellent compilation of research and expert opinion for the care of spinal and extremity related disorders. It gives the practitioner a resource to utilize for difficult as well as simple cases of musculoskeletal dysfunction that plagues millions of americans each year. The guidelines of care move from the passive (traditional chiropractic manipulation and physiological therapeutics) to the active (progressive rehabilitive exercises and patient education) in order to restore optimal functional mobility to the patient.

As a senior chiropractic intern, I have taken a rehabilitation course at Logan College of Chiropractic that uses this text as its core reference. Additionally, I have integrated the scientific principles given and have seen my patients respond well.

This text is a must for the chiropractic physician. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!
This book is a great resource on multiple levels. It's easy to use and understand with a wealth of information. I use it regularly as a reference tool in my massage practice as well as for teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Kinesiology. The clear illustrations and palpation instructions far exceed anything else I've seen.

Anyone studying, interested in, or working with the musculoskeletal system will find this book to be an excellent addition to their library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of The Muscular System Manual
As a student of Massage Therapy I have used this book for Anatomy & Physiology and Kinesiology classes and can honestly say it is the best text book on the subject of the muscular system I have ever seen. This books strength is that it teaches you how to learn and understand muscles and muscle actions rather than just memorize them. It is very clearly organized and the illustrations are well labeled and easy to understand. There are also appendices covering such things as anatomical position & planes of the body, palpation guidelines and some fun and useful mnemonics. This book is very comprehensive, yet easy to use and I would highly recommend it to anyone studying the musculoskeletal system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for learning and understanding the muscles!
It is nice to find a book dedicated to the muscular system. Although the graphics are simple (not photographic), the information and the lay out are great for learning and understanding of the muscles. The best pages in this book are those that lay out the muscular attachments of a region of the body.

Highly recommended for anyone that works in any field where the muscles are the focus!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal reference guide of musculoskeletal anatomy.
Dr. Joseph E. Muscolino truly compiled the ultimate Musculoskeletal system anatomy textbook.

I esspicially found the Latin and Greek derivation section's to be very helpful in understanding the origins of the muscle names.

This author's logic and approach is unmatched.

Kudos to Dr. Joseph E. Muscolino!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Musculoskeletal Information
This book is comprehensive in nature, scrupulous in detail, and the product of an obvious passion for the wealth of information to be found in our musculoskeletal system. As a massage therapist and perpetual student of the human body, I am glad to add this book to my library. It is well organized which makes it easy to reference whether I know the muscle, the bony landmark, or the general anatomical area of the body. Having so much information about an individual muscle in one book makes it easy to enhance or refresh my existing knowledge. I have opened the book just to refresh my knowledge of what an individual muscle looks like and found the illustrations clear. I have used the cross reference to find other muscles that might be adding to an existing muscular problem in a client. I have refreshed my awareness of an individual muscle by using the easy to follow palpation information. And I have added to my knowledge of individual muscle actions when helping a client isolate a muscle's tightness. Every time I have opened the book I have not been overwhelmed by what I do not know but rather come away feeling smarter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable
"Rehabilitation Protocols for Surgical and Nonsurgical Procedures meets the challenge of providing techniques, as well as responding to the demand for accountability in the current dynamic healthcare environment. The research for the book has also tested the proposed spine protocols' acceptance among other spine practitioners in the East Texas region, and across the United States. During the past eight years, these protocols have been presented to many spine physicians and rehabilitation specialists to utilize and critique, the results of which are presented within these pages. McFarland and Burkhart have a combined experience of more than fifty years as physical therapy practitioners. Dr. Danielson, as well as the physicians at NeuroCare Network and the East Texas Neurologic Institute, has continued to support efforts in this area. These protocols have provided guidelines for referring surgical and nonsurgical patients for therapy, resulting in the development of a foundation for therapy experience that has generated new ideas for rehabilitation and care.
The American Back Society has contributed to this work as well, with the efforts of Executive Director Dr. Aubrey Swartz and current President Dr. Philip Greenman particularly instrumental. They have supported the development of these protocols since the early phases, extending the work throughout the ABS's worldwide membership through conferences and publications and sponsoring surveys for further research in the rehabilitation realm. Their combined efforts, Dr. Danielson's support, and the research of the authors have culminated with the publication of this book."

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid introduction to the Alexander Technique.
I've read a dozen or so books about the Technique over the past dozen years. I became interested in the ideas behind the Technique after having had lessons with 2 very different Alexander Techers. Both teachers helped me a great deal with a chronic back pain problem I'd had since my twenties (I'm 67 now.) My first teacher was very non-verbal, but his hands-on-guidance was very clear and was able to change my posture quite a bit. My second teacher was far more verbal, and also had very good direction in her hands. She encouraged me to do some reading, starting with "Fitness Without Stress"(my favorite) and then "Body Learning" and most recently the Authorized summaries of Alexander's own four books(most of these you can get from Amazon - but the authorized summaries you have to get by mail from an Alexander Technique Professional Society - you can find out more at the Alexander Technique Bookstore at alexandertechnique.com/books)My sense is that Gray's book is not as clear as the other books's on the Technique I've read, although it does cover the basics.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've tried the others-this IS the best one not written by FM
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am a violinist with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Technique itself is an **invaluable** element of my life and work---and I would say this book is the best Alexander book not written by FM Alexander himself (it's also much easier to read than FM's brilliant but *very* Victorian prose). This would be my Desert Island Alexander book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK
I am stunned at the last reviewer's negative review! I am working on my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and this book was an assigned reading. This is wonderully written with honesty, humility, and humor. There ARE many wonderful aspects of being a psychotherapist and Kottler DOES illucidate these pieces, but he also points out inevitable pitfalls that will happen to some of us: burnout, financial strains, boredom, and other occupational hazards. If you can't get this book here, go to your local library and get borrow it. This treasure can be enjoyed by the novice, student, and professional alike. Happy reading!

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a job!
The least this book does is point out the reality that many who falsely pride themselves in the profession of psychotherapy would do better in other career fields: welding, sewing, fruit picking, VCR repair. Seriously, if you fancy yourself a therapist yet the thought of actually getting your hands dirty and dealing with depression repulses you then please snap out of your Hollywood illusions and accept a normal job with the rest of us... before you go and further ruin someone else's life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Considerations
This book has a lot of valuable information, but this book is not for everyone. The book serves to remind therapists that we are human, but focuses on all the possible negative aspects of a therapists life and practice. I feel this book turns people away from seeking therapy or going into the profession. The book is written with an over-whelming negativity and a hint of arrogance. If you are looking for something to normalize your negative experiences as a therapist, then this is possibly the best book out there for you. If you are romantically involved with a therapist that you are concerned about, then this may be a good thing to read to better understand what may be going on. If you are new to the field, then read the book on and off as needed (if you must). If you are not a therapist or involved with one, then this book has nothing for you. Therapy, like every field, is a mixed bag. This book fails to acknowledge the goodness in the lives of those being a therapist. ... Read more

This book is very interesting and alot of great knowledge. The only down fall is the pages are too thin and that makes it hard for high lighting. The expensive cost of these books should make better pages, because they also rip easily. ... Read more
