Cardiovascular-Renal Disease, an Allopathic Disgrace
In writing this book Dr McDaniel, motivated by his own failing health, has opened a large can of worms. Namely the appalling level of drug and surgery based treatment offered to patients struggling with heart and renal problems. The current treatment protocol lines the pockets of the drug companies and in turn leads to unecessary surgeries. However it patently fails the patients, who spend many years progressively debilitated until any normal movement, such as walking up stairs becomes impossible.

Yet as Dr McDaniel did, ask your consultant what the true etiology of heart disease is and watch them struggle and waffle.

In this book Dr McDaniel has attempted to condense a 4 year course of colloidal science, zeta potential, and the true etiology of cardiovascular-renal disease, into 140 odd pages. He has done a good job even if I as a lay person found I needed to take it slowly.

Further to this he wants this information out in the open and offers short training courses from his clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio, to doctors and other qualified people. There simple therapies using anionic surfactants are taught, it should be availble to everyone, but it doesn't make large profits for the drug companies, so lets not hold our breath.

The science maybe involved, avoiding heart disease isn't. Attention to your water intake and the quality of that water, awareness of your diet and a simple understanding of how to test your own urine with a specific conductance meter and the average age of death in the western world would increase markedly.

An important book and more power to Dr McDaniel. However despite his best efforts the world isn't beating a path to his door because most of us believe the propaganda put out by the drug companies and their puppets the doctors. I no longer do!!

The science of green tea in understandable prose
Dr. Yukihiko Hara was the first to purify green tea catechins on a larger scale. As Director of the Food Research Laboratories at Mitsui Norin Co, he and his colleagues worked in their extra time to purify these compounds and make them available in the late 1980's. The methods they developed are used today to purify the green tea extracts available from pills to shampoo. This book reports on their scientific efforts exploring the activity of the catechins and reviews the work of others in the field. It is clearly written in layman's language with many illustrations.

Key areas covered include where catechins come from and how they are purified, anti-oxidant and radical scavenging in food products and animals. Their tests, mostly in animals of the anti-bacterial action, the anti-viral action and the anti-cancer action, are reported in the next few chapters. Each chapter describes the experiments in sufficient detail so you can evaluate the meaning of the effect. There are further chapters on health effects in humans, including fat reduction and improved bowel function, help for diabetes and also hypertension, backed up by straightforward experiments. He ends with a general discussion of trends in the field.

Much of this work was done by Dr. Hara's group and close collaborators, so the original papers were published in Japanese; for many experiments this book is the only way to read about them in English. Green Tea Catechins are now studied around the world, but the quantities needed originated in this lab and he has supplied the catechins other scientists have used for most of that work. Mitsui Norin purified the catechins sold at Sigma Chemicals until this last year.

Currently Dr. Hara's group has a collaborative research effort with the US National Cancer Institute to test the anti-cancer effects of green tea catechins in people with precancerous lesions. The book provides the background one needs to appreciate this effort and gives the history of the science leading up to the NCI trials in a convenient way.

Great Book and a CD too!
This book is filled with wonderful information that is easy to use. Dr. Lamb looks at the "whole" health picture, including how stress affects our health. The book is "user-friendly"; it's written in language that those of us without medical degrees can understand! The CD is a wonderful addition. I highly recommend this book. I have purchased several for friends and family members.

The Best!
Over 200 of the most commonly encountered chief complaints in family medicine! This is the book! It's contributors are outstanding educators and clinicians from the school of medicine Harvard. It is a pleasure to find a medical book that took into consideration the practical aspects of a primary physician in his clinic.
I'd like to suggest to incorporate into the next edition more visual items (cXR, CT, MRI dermatological, etc.) as it says that one picture worth a thousand words
