I have not yet read this book, but I hear it is worth reading. Everyone I know can't stop talking about how they could not put it down once they started reading it. if you like reading books on dental hygene, this is the one for you. I will write another review as soon as I have read the book. From what I haaave heard, this book has touched the lives of so many in the dental hygene profession. The author should be recognized throughout the world for her book. I hope that you all will read this book and write a review.

First modern educational tool in dental health for children.
This is the first book of its kind. It focuses on the dental education of children. It is a complete lesson planner that can be fully integrated in the classroom along with school's other subjects. If children can learn to take care of their teeth the proper way, they can save themselves and their parents a lot of trouble down the line. What impressed me most about the book was how much information was in it. People usually go to the dentist twice a year and they think they are fine. After reading this book, one can see that people are really not educated at all about proper dental health. This book teaches in terms that everyday people can understand that there is a proper and simple way to excellent dental health besides going to the dentist. It also gives good background to why the techniques we use today are so helpful. Even a good dentist does not go into the background or go into what needs to be done for proper dental health because that is not their job. I would not be surprised if many dentists and their assistants all over the proffession would endorse this piece of educational material. Primary Preventive Dentistry
As a practicing dental hygienist, I found this book helpful. It is a great review for all professionals in the dental field.

The book is very technical and some areas are not smooth reading. I did find a few helpful sections such as the one on Topical Fluoride. However, I do think I will refer to the Wilkins text more often.

If you are looking for a different style of writing or different perspective (and have the extra money to spend) then I would recommend this book. It is good for researching certain topics. ... Read more

better late than never!!
All I can say is I wish I had seen this book a few teeth ago!
Fortunately there is still time to save the rest of my teeth with the clear advice of Dr Sydney. I take the book with me to my periodontist to make sure he is up to date!

Ignorance Is NOT Bliss!!
I thought I could ignore my teeth and the would NOT go away...I was wrong! After loosing two teeth, I went to my dentist and he said "you need a periodontist!". Fortunately, I read Dr. Sydney's book BEFORE I got there. What a relief to find out that even though I had lost two teeth there was still time and modern therapy to save the rest. My treatment is almost completed now and the guide and my periodontist showed me that while ignorance is not bliss there was still time to get my gums healthy when you have the true facts presented. I recommend this book to all the cowards among us. It's easy to read, comprehensive and according to my periodontist accurately represents today's state of the field. I have given the book to a number of my friends who told me their gums were bleeding but thought that was normal. This book is an eye-opener for those who have had their heads in the sand. Take it with you on your professional visits it really helped me to understand all the treatments.

Fear has always kept me away from the dentist, but no more!
When I was told that I had gum disease, I got really scared and of course wanted to ignore the advice of my dentist and the obvious signs in my mouth that something was wrong! Fortunately, I read Dr. Sydney's no-jargon guide and now I know that most of my fears were based on fiction and not fact.
