5-0 out of 5 stars CT Text Sheds Light on CT
This review was written by Debra A. Durick., MPA.,RT(R)(CT)(M) of the University of South Alabama and appeared in Radiologic Technology (March/April 2001): "The second edition of this book improves on the first. Now in paperback, it has more graphics and illustrations and is an excellent textbook for teaching as well as a helpful resource for individuals planning to take the Registry Exam in computed tomography. The author has expanded the text with updated and new information on spiral/helical CT, realtime CT fluoroscopy, virtual endoscopy and CT angiography. Mr Seeram presents the material in an organized sequence, beginning with the history of CT and continuing with information on CT physics, data acquisition, computers, image quality assurance, new information on ways CT is being used today, pediatric CT and protocols. The information flows well, building on itself with each chapter. After introducing information, Mr Seeram thoroughly discusses it in an understandable manner. In particular he does an excellent job of explaining difficult concepts sunc as back projection, volume scanning, the role of computers in CT, quality assurance and the physical principles of CT. The graphics and illustrations are self-explanatory and are used throughout the text to reiterate the difficult information discussed. The author is an excellent teacher in the area of CT and anyone can gain from his explanations. The first edition of this textbook is used in our advanced CT classes and has been an asset for these classes. The book is worth its cost, considering the information it provides. Its strengths are the easily understandable explanations of difficult information and the excellent graphics and illustrations which reinforce the information covered. The summary comparison of three different manufacturers' units at the back of the book helps readers understand the different terminology used by different manufacturers. I do not find any weaknesses, except possibly a little less information on basic computer components. I would recommend this as a course textbook and as a reference text for anyone taking the Registry exam."

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Ct book
I saw this book in the library and fell in love in it immeidately. I have bought a copy immediately and is a great reference book to have.

Excellent updates on CT and the newer technologies. The best section was on QA and great for all CT radiographers. MUST HAVE

4-0 out of 5 stars BE A C.T. KNOW IT ALL...
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT BOOK TO HAVE AS A REFERENCE SOURCE FOR THE ADVANCED C.T. BOARDS AND FOR FUTURE USE . USED IT TO PREPARE FOR THE EXAM AND PASSED IT THANKS TO THE THOROUGH EXPLANATIONS OF ALL THE PHYSICAL PRINCIPLES ASSOCIATED WITH COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY. CONSIDER IT THE C.T. BIBLE. IT'S A "MUST HAVE" GUIDE IN ANY CAT SCAN DEPARTMENT.

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good for CT registry prep
used this book for CT registry review....scored pretty well.... There is alot of info in this book that is not useful and some that is not explained very well. Would definitely recommend Registry Review in CT by DeMaio...it was alot of help in preparing to take the test.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple and Precise
All that matters here is simplicity and precision. As the title says, Radiographis Positioning and Related Anatomy. You got what you expected: all radiographic positioning (almost all) and related anatomy (enough for x ray procedures but you really need anatomy book by your side)
I highly recommend this book for reference but additional facts should be close at hand for further referrals. The Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy in the National University of Malaysia gives this book a definite thumbs up. I believe many universities do the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars Xray techs you NEED this book!
I have been an xray technologist since 1984. And I thought I knew everything about taking a chest xray...well, I did, back then. My department purchased this book last month and it is an eye opener! I read things in this book that I didn't know or had forgotten. The pictures are great, information priceless. If you are an 'old salt' like me or just a 'young pup' starting out, I highly recommend this book. You'll keep it with you throughout your career.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference for X - Ray techs.
If you're an x - ray technician and continually do the same old procedures over and over again such as chest or back x - rays (like I do), you may become rusty on other procedures. If the dr. orders a jaw series or knee sunrise, your mind may draw a blank image of what he's talking about. I always have this book handy in my darkroom in case of these "emergencies". Once I look at the photograph/illustration and the FFD - it all comes back. I set the patient up and take the shot and run it through the processor; it always turns out right (so long as this text is with me). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Better resource for the Radiology Written boards than Orals
In the midst of my studying for the Orals, I have discovered that I use this book much less for the Orals than the I did for the writtens. Rarely some of the information is not up to date or wrong. The differentials are not weighted. For example In case conference, if you get a "double bubble" differential just start off with Ladd's Bands as your leading differential ( from the LADS mnemonic). Your Pedi examiner will shoot you down in flames. I am using Wittenberg's Primer much more than Danhert. Danhert's new edition is an improvement, but it is a limited resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Radiology Review Manual
This text is an outstanding. The author completed the book with
excellent criteria of the disease processes; differential diagnoses; and diagnostic imaging appearances. I have recommended the book to be used in the Radiology Practitioner Program, Radiologic Sciences, Weber State University, 3925 University Circle, Ogden, UT 84408-3925. I have recommended that my fellow RPA classmates obtain a copy of the text. I gave the CD version to another classmate, who has found it to be an outstanding resource for her required course work.

Please send a complimentary copy to Jane Van Valkenburg, PhD at the above address. Dr Van Valkenburg is the founder of the only RAdiology Practitioner Program in the United States. She can be contacted at 1-800-848-7770 X 6119.

The text is truly a 5 star level book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful reference book

2-0 out of 5 stars New edition marred by typos and awkward editing
This new edition of the classic text is a disappointment, and it's use as a textbook is not recommended.

For this 3d edition, the list of typographical errors compiled by colleagues and myself stands at four pages and growing. Errors can be found in the text, the chapter problems, and their solutions. Other solutions which are not clearly wrong may inexplicably differ from your own solution at the second significant digit.

Formulae are rarely derived from first principles. One exception is the change in wavelength for a photon undergoing Compton scattering from an electron, but, even here, a crucial equation (the relativistic energy invariant) is conspicuously omitted, without which the final equation cannot be derived. The text does not even mention relativity in discussing Compton scattering. (The index does reference "Relatively effects" (sic) at pp. 4-11.)

Equations and formulae contain, at times, an unnecessary proliferation of multiplication signs and units which obscures the underlying physical principles and the simplicity of the equations themselves. Students are better served by a clear mathematical presentation of the underlying physics, rather than being dropped into the middle of an obscure equation made even more so by the inclusion of several constants whose only purpose is to make the units work out. While any text on this subject must deal with the unavoidability of old and new units, my suggestion is to derive the formulae from first principles and deal with the units issue (which, after all, only amounts to including appropriate conversion factors) separately as examples or chapter problems.

Finally, the multiplication sign, "x", should be reserved for arithmetic and scientific notation, not symbolic mathematical equations. See, e.g., Equations (3.10), (4.31), (10.17), (10.32), etc., as examples where the multiplication sign is unnecessary. The text also uses the multiplication sign even where numerical values are already set off by parentheses. The text's overuse of the multiplication sign gives the text a grade-schoolish flavor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful general text on radiation protection and safety
In over 25 years since its first edition, this classic textbook has been used to train countless professionals in the fundamentals of radiation protection and safety. This third edition of Cember's work incorporates several fundamental changes in radiation protection standards and methodologies adopted since publication of the second edition in 1983. The third edition has also been expanded to include more recent safety standards for radiofrequency and microwave exposure.

This textbook is useful for an upper division undergraduate or first graduate course in radiological protection, health physics, or radiation safety. Each chapter is accompanied by a useful set of problems and suggested readings. Unfortunately, many of the readings and references cited are either out of print or difficult to find. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Read
This is an excellent introductory text book in radiology. It contains excellent images and covers the key fundamentals in radiology. It would be ideal for the PGY1 or PGY2 resident to read through to gain familarity in radiology before moving on to the major reference texts. Very readable book that does not overwhelm the junior resident with needless minutia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fundamental of Diagnostic Radiology
This is the single excellent book for Radiology Residents and General Radiologists. Seperate sections on US and NM are the best parts of this book. CT Scan and MRI are dispersed with the General Radiology. If the authors create seperate sections of CT and MRI like US and NM in the next edition, the book will become the only perfect book in General Radiology. This book contains treasure of knowledge for the Radiology residents and racticing General Radiologists.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise but not enough for residency.
Not a bad overview of most subjects, but some areas are lacking. The bone trauma subsection is particularly scant, excluding all of the fracture grading schemes. Additionally, while somewhat dedicated to differential generating, you don't really get a feel for what is actually common.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
The new version has an ultrasound section which is more extensive than the first edition. The book is sound and an excellent review. It is certainly the new review book as opposed to other texts. It is good for residents and practicing radiologists. I am finished with residency and fellowship and it is a handy reference book! (2nd edition)

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Book
"...fulfills the authors goal of providing an up-to-date survey of the physics of medical imaging in a format that will appeal to students and educators alike. The coverage of topics is sufficiently comprehensive, making it a suitable introductory text for a number of imaging-oriented courses." (Radiology, January 2004)

5-0 out of 5 stars "An Excellent Introduction"
"...an excellent introduction to the physics of medical imaging...Medical Imaging Physics is sure to be a favorite of residents, perhaps supplanting Christensen's Introduction to the Physics of Diagnostic Radiology as the classic radiology residency physics text." (American Journal of Roentgenology, Vol. 180, No. 4, April 2003)

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Medical Imaging Physics
This text is excellent for Medical Physicists preparing for the first part of their ABR or ABMP exam. This book is also a very good text for teaching Radiology Residents. Radiology Residents currently (4/12/03), do not use calculators for their ABR exam therefore they do not need to know most of the calculations that are presented in this text. The chapter on Radiation Detectors is an excellent primer for medical physicists, health physicists and Biomedical engineers. My only criticism of the text is that the QA recommendations are not current and the MRI section does not address image quality enough detail.

Practial guide to reading CT images. Great for both Physician and Technologist. Tastes great too!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best anatomy and pathology book for CT I've ever seen.
There is no better book on the market for cross sectional anatomy. The book uses normal anatomy vs. pathology examples for every body part and major condition that would be visualized with CT imaging. Easy to read, high quality pictures are taken from real Siemens images and put alongside illustrations that label the anatomy.

This book also gives outstanding guidelines for interpreting images. This would make it perfect for radiology or surgery residents.

This book has impressed everyone in my department. Docs and techs alike been impressed by it. Its affordable, not too big and packed with great images.

If you need a cross sectional anatomy text for CT Applications, look no further. Buy this book!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Displeased with a few Chapters
Some of these chapters are out of date and not useful for the radiologist in general practice. I especially disprove of the Charboneau chapters. Rumack and Wilson are excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent book!
If the first edition was brilhant this 2nd edition is a must in the field of diagnostic ultrasound. There is an answer of vitually any subject, all with a table with a brief resume. Fotographs are very clear and cover almost every topic. The editors may be proud of its creation, a definitive book in this ever changing and growing medical speciality.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE diagnostic ultrasound texbook
The second edition updates an already definitive textbook of diagnostic ultrasound. The contributors are all luminaries in the field, many having authored their own texts. Dr. Rumack has been able to edit the book into a comprehensive yet readable text. The liberal addition of colored texts, tables and charts greatly enhances comprehension as well as facilitate quick review at the viewbox. It is well worth the price. ... Read more
