The Definitive Emergency Medicine Text
As an Emergency medicine resident, the book is the centerpiece of my library. The new edition differs from the previous in the addition of two color text. Using two colors enables them to make the tables more readable. The text is longer than the previous edition. Each chapter is divided up into a short intro/description of normal, followed by etiology, pathophysiology, clinical features, treatment, then special considerations. The writing, as in the previous editions is concise and to the point. This text is priceless because it takes all the concepts and presents them in a clinically relevant way. This is very useful as a general review text, as well as a hands on while working text. Should be in all ED's as well as in all personal libraries of physicians who see patients in the emergency setting.

Downward Spiral on Autopilot
*Emergency Medicine, A Comprehensive Study Guide* has long been a well-regarded standard emergency text, useful in day-to-day practice as well as for board preparation. This new edition has advanced the enlightened 'evidence-based recommendations' for changes in practice patterns, however, the lack of editorial control has resulted in a book packed with conflicting information. Each chapter is written by a different consultant, and unfortunately not all of them are up on this concept... we therefore get a series of conflicting statements when there is overlap in topics, and there is no attempt to reconcile this variability. Admittedly, opinions in much of medicine do vary; but outright conflict within a few pages in a standard text without discussion does harm to credibility.

Further loss of editorial control is also evident on a close read. It is apparent that a spell-checker was used for proof-reading (substitutions of the nature of "week" for "weak" abound) and in some areas clinical formulae have been mis-stated -- example: calculation of effective osmolarity, pg. 1341 (though correct elsewhere in the book). The index seems somewhat disorganized, with references to isolated appearance of a word (example: see *first* reference listing to "hyperglycemia"... certainly not the definitive source in the text). This problem is not isolated.

The book has expanded by approximately 500 pages over the 4th edition, totalling more than 2000 pages. Its size makes it unwieldly to read or carry; it should have been separated into 2 volumes. Even with that expansion, much useful information is missing. Though descriptions of EKG abnormalities in advanced electrolyte disturbance are adequately described, it certainly would have been an informational asset to actually include a picture of such characteristic tracings. Dermatology is similarly poorly pictured -- there are only 8 pages of color illustrations in the text, with nearly 2 pages wasted on 1)technique of foreign body removal (not needed in color) 2)a color demonstration of SPECT data -- well outside the range of information needed for the E.M. specialist, and not definitive, besides. Even worse, the illustrations interspersed in the dermatology section are simply black and white copies of the color text -- providing only suboptimal repetition.

Bottom line: the *Comprehensive Study Guide* has been, and remains, a valuable text for an overview of the practice of emergency medicine; but either keep your 4th edition, or wait for the 6th.

This book is an excellent learning tool!
This book is a great textbook of emergency medicine, and I've chosen it over others simply because it's comprehensive without the useless drivel. Each section includes the necessary anatomy and pathophysiological considerations for the respective disoders. The subset of conditions are mentioned with just enough facts to understand the morbidity to treat it. The pictures, diagrams, algorithmic flow-charts, and drug regimens are a nice compliment, however, most of your clinical experience is going to come from interships and residency, so to assume this book is all you'll need to get by in EM is crazy. I still think it's the best out there to read before putting your mind to work.

I'm Afraid to Give it a Bad Review......
Do you know the true meaning of the words "Study Guide?" Well, what that means is that you must be able to achieve a passing score on the American Board of Emergency Medicine's Certifying Exam by studying nothing more than this book. And I believe it, since I have passed it twice studying basically nothing more than this book. While it lacks the broad panache of the "other" two volume tome, the idea that you can pass the certifying exam by memorizing this huge book is, well, it's sexy.

Mandatory (This is a Review of the Companion Handbook)
Owning this book is simply mandatory--unless, of course, you are certain than neither you nor any loved one will ever need to be admitted to an emergency room. While I am by no means a physician, this thick little paperback has allowed me to make an informed assessment of the treatment that family members have received, and to make it easier for doctors and nurses to explain things to me. Aimed (as you can see from the other reviews here for the massive study guide for which this book is a companion) totally for physicians, it is assumed that the reader is familiar with medical terminology. But it isn't that bad, really--acronyms are usually defined when they are first used in each section, and I have found that a run-of-the-mill collegiate dictionary suffices for most of the anatomic and diagnostic terms. A Physician's Desk Reference would be most helpful for acquainting oneself with the drugs, dosages and regimens referred to in the book, and it doesn't hurt to have someone in the medical field you can query about procedures and policies. Basically, I see no reason why such information needs to be confined to those in the profession, and believe everyone should be aware of the mechanics of trauma treatment. Also, I have simply found it to be fascinating reading (the incredibly succinct description of the stages of child/adolescent development--from the point of view of the assessing ED physician--says more in two pages than all the oceans of ink that have been spilled--in newspapers and magazines--on the topic of children in our society). ... Informative, but don't buy it if you have the original DSM-4
The text-revised version is virtually identical to the 1994 version of the DSM-IV and not worth buying if you have the 1994 version. Along with the DSM-IV, the DSM-IV Text Revised version is, however, an informative book that provides good introductory information, especially in the "Diagnostic Features" section, about a wide variety of mental disorders. A problem of the manual, in my opinion, is its use of a categorical classification system while ignoring the dimensional nature of psychological phenomena.

Postpartum Disorders Reorganized
I am pleased that postpartum psychosis has been dropped as a separate entry in the DSM IV TR. Postpartum is now correctly classified as a General Medical Condition. These changes call for the diagnostician to classify an afflicted mother by a disorder for which there is information more readily available, such as schizophrenia. In the case of a schizophrenic disorder, the mother is no more a danger to others (including the infant, I would infer) than those in the general population (p. 304). Therefore, mental health care providers have no basis to keep a mother separated from her infant any more than any normal parent. The manual is a useful tool for the afflicted to use for self-discovery, especially when there is mistrust, denial, anger, and agitation toward mental health care providers. The manual can literally put the afflicted and the provider "on the same page." It is well worth the investment in this book, a highlighter marker, and a therapy session to mark up and discuss the book.

I disagree about laypeople reading it...
Most laypeople with a college education can understand a good portion of this book, in my opinion, especially the areas that note what symptoms are needed to classify for each disorder. I do know that easier books are out there, but I don't discourage others from purchasing it, especially if they have a friend, family member, colleague, etc. that has been or has not yet been diagnosed with a mental disorder. This is the "bible" psychiatrists use to diagnose and I am glad it is available to the public.

It's the Mainstay
I am a psychologist and I have been practicing for about 30 years. I remember the little DSM II. It was the size of the companion small book that can be purchased. The DSM has a history. There was actually a time when psychologists and psychiatrists were considering 2 different texts. Reading the reviewers was interesting as this is my tool to differentiate what my clients present. It is continually being improved and that is the focus of TR. There are subtle differences and clarifications. This book is the basis of identifying the specifics of what we are working with. The DSM IV was a collaborative effort to acurately represent international, cultural, and biological differences. My clients don't care but some don't know that an adjustment disorder of mood is different than dysthymia or depression which is again different from Bi Polar disorder. I probably wouldn't read it if I didn't do this kind of work. Yet it may be important to people with diagnosed illness. It can assist the capable reader in being an informed consumer.

Great reference, good bathroom reading. Lousy storyline.
It is a good book for attempting to nail down and quantify the disorders given in a bottom line way, just like any good reference would. Although, as another reviewer wrote, its not perfect, but its the best thing we've got. Use it more as a general reference and not strictly as any kind of instruction manual. I would tend to take it in more as recreational reading if it included maybe some case studies or whatnot. But being that much of it is divided into short chunks, it makes an excellent addition to any powder room... ... Read more

A must for professionals in disability law and medicine
The 5th Edition is the Rosetta Stone for evaluating permanent impairment. It is invaluable in workers' compensation, where many states, provinces and several countries either mandate its use or treat this work as an authorativie source of impairment evaluation. It may also come to have utility in ADA cases, especially with its emphasis on activities of daily living, and as a predicate to demonstrating the significance or insignificance of an impairment's effect on major life activities after Toyota vs Williams. The vision chapter represents the AMA's first major, published revision to the science and knowledge of eye impairments since the early 1900's.

Nice Charts
Although my copy came with 10 pages of errata sheets stuck in the front of it (presumably cured in the 5th version), I still got a lot out of reading through this book. The descriptions of impairment are de regeur reading for coming up with convincing settlement demands for soft tissue injuries. Someone's shoulder hurts? How do you say they have lost 20% of their upper body use as a result? Why not 90% of one finger, 50% of one hand, and 80% of one arm? Multiple impairments like these can be descriptively segmented to more fully elaborate what a patient is feeling, and how they are limited in daily activities. Both the plaintiff bar and the insurance community are well-served by this book. As for the medical accuracy of it, I'll take the AMA's word for it. ... Read more

The best pathology book for students!
This is THE textbook of pathology for students of medicine and dentistry!
Pros? Well, it has all the 4 C's...
1) Clear language... minimal verbosity, straight to the point
2) Comprehensive ... it has all the facts the student needs to know for exams as well as future clinical practice
3) Colour pictures ... not the black and white stuff but full colours to add more morphological meaning to the texts
4) Cast ... I'm sure everyone wants to read a book written by authoritative pathologists?

Cons?
1) Cumbersome ... students just initiated into the world of pathology may find it tough to plough through the thousand over pages of text (like I did while in med school), but believe me, if you stick by it, you'll enjoy the fruits of your labour in due time.
2) Some of the facts and tumour classifications may be a little out of date (latest edition published in 1999) but if you're a student, don't brood over it. Tutors would probably highlight major updates during your pathology course.

Great book for those going into pathology!
If you are an ordinary medical student like myself this book is too detailed and has everything there is to know about the subject. It is a great book for those who have a basic understanding of pathology, but for those who don't good luck reading it for the first time. Some of the comments(jokes) in the book are also not needed. I believe that "Basic Pathology" 6th. edition from the same authors is a lot easier to understand with better and more colorful diagrams.

The book is written in a very dense matter and extremely unfriendly to reading but worst of all it has very few histological images so while the description is there you often times do not see it and so you don't learn it.

If you are looking at this text, then you should already know that Robbins is synonymous with pathology. There is nothing like sitting down on a Saturday night to brush up your pathology with this text.

Med Students - MAKE TIME FOR THIS BOOK
If you're able to plan enough ahead of time, read this book early and often. GREAT book - gives a good overview (yes, overview) without being too concise or too lengthy - appropriate level for Med Students, esp 2nd year. Its great to combine with Wheater's Basic Histopatholgy.

Excellent! Lots of full-color photographs
This is an excellent, full-color photographic atlas of dermatology. The text is not complete enough to diagnose and treat, but if you are looking for an excellent collection of photographs with brief descriptions to peak your interest this is a wonderful resource. Lots of images of less common disorders and diseases of the skin (Lamellar ichthyosis, pemphigus vulgaris, EB's), and also common ailments (acne, rosacea, cancer, etc.)

EXCELLENT REFERENCE BOOK
I have used this book throughout 2 years of medical school and it is one of the best dermatology references I have come across.It has also been a quick review for the the path seen with derm since the pictures are so clear and give a good representation of the path. An easy book to skim through before boards as well.

Great overview of Clinical Dermatology
I enjoyed reading this book as a layperson, not having gone to medical school. I have a number of minor skin problems and this book allowed me to differentiate the insignificant ones from the ones I need to pay attention to. I think that this book should be in every household, because a person or parent should know what skin affliction(s) they have and how serious they are before they rush off to the doctor. One thing that should have been elaborated on more is the sub-section on The Nails as Clues to Multiorgan Disease. There are only a few pages of examples of this, yet there are dozens of correlations between abnormal fingernails and systemic disease. The book only gives blantant and graphic examples of serious nail problems and then gives the possible associated underlying disease. It should be expanded to include more "soft sign" nail problems to help doctors make educated guesses about what tests to run.

WELL-RESEARCHED, WELL-DOCUMENTED
Shinning like a king's armour, the colours and synopses of this atlas made a thorough analysis of skin diseases.
Any medical student or practioner who needs a dermatological companion would find a reliable one in this atlas. The uncountable pictures, which featured in this new edition are both illustrative and descriptive. Everything about the book indicates sound research and documentation, (on the part of its authors). It is a superlative tool for both doctors and students: the type of book many people would like to keep as CD-ROMs.

Out Damned Spot!
Was it, perhaps, the abundant clear color photos? Was it, by chance, the in-depth and easy to understand text? Or could it have been the complete indexing of every skin disease known to mankind, from Acne to Zoster sine zoster, that compelled me to snatch this wonderful red book from the shelf and declare, "Hey, this is one super-cool book!"

If I were a dermatologist or a general practitioner, I'd want this atlas in my reference library. Ah...but alas, I'm but a simple lawyer trying to find out how to get rid of a case of... Dare I say more? Out damned spot! Out!

This needs to be read by all women everywhere!
This is probably the most life changing book I've ever read. I wish in school as young girls we had known exactly what our body does at menstruation and ovulation. It's amazing.

Not only can this be used for TTC - it can be used to learn how to better utilize birth control methods. Being aware of your basal body temp & cervical fluid you actually know when you are ovulating and when your period is due. Like clockwork!

In addition, having your temps stay high instead of dipping down as your period approaches is indicative of pregnancy achievement. In my case this happened, (preg test to confirm) but unfortunately I wasn't able to hold the pregnancy and my temps started to go downwards -- making my period a couple of days late. If I hadn't have been charting, I would've never known I was pregnant, and just chalked it up to a late period.

This book is good for all women - empowering them to learn more about their amazing bodies!

An amazing book for EVERY woman
After announcing to a close friend of mine who was eight months pregnant that I was about to begin to try to have a baby, I was given a weathered copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I direct a women's health program at a community hospital and was amazed at what I DIDN'T know about my body after reading this book. Toni Weschler is a gifted writer. A public health practitioner's dream, she is extremely clear, distilling scientific facts to manageable pieces of information. She dispels the myth that charting your fertility, traditionally referred to as "Natural Family Planning", is a method used only by a select few who choose natural methods of birth control because of religious beliefs. Moreover, she emphasizes the connection between women's empowerment and knowledge of normal biological processes that are often medicalized to the point of leaving many women mystified. I would go so far as to say this should be required reading for all young women entering high school! (NOTE: I am now in my first trimester as a result of the information provided in the pages of this book. I am very grateful!)

Got Pregnant the Second Month Using This Method!!!!!
I highly recommend this book and method for getting pregnant. I am 39 and had been trying to get pregnant for six months using an ovulation predictor kit. We already have a 2 year old daughter that was conceived the first month we tried, so I was very discouraged that we were not pregnant yet. A friend of mine recommended this book, and I thought it was worth a shot! I found the book a very easy read. I read the sections relevant to getting pregnant in one night (there are also sections on birth control, menopause, etc). I began charting immediately. I did not go crazy with charting-I just recorded my temp each day and checked the other 2 signs (cervical mucus and cervical position) starting about a week before I knew I was going to ovulate. I got pregnant the second month!! The book is super informative about all aspects of a woman's reproductive body. A great read even if you just want to get to know what's going on with your body every month. Hope this review helps!!

GREAT BOOK
Wow!! First of all - I was quite ignorant about my own body until I read this book. I will share this book with my children. I also purchased the software that goes along with it - and IT WORKED SUCCESSFULLY!! I am expecting my first child Dec. 04 !! I did "practice" charting for one month and then the first month that we tried for real - well it happened!! A friend of mine and my cousin both used this book and it helped them as well. I highly suggest this book to anyone who wants to conceive. It really helps you to understand your body. It has some medical terms - but explains them in detail. I also suggest the software - it made it MUCH easier for me!!

You HAVE to read this book
I bought this book for two reasons, to get pregnant after 35 & due to everyone else's review of this book. Now, I'm a believer. If you're a woman and think you know about your body, you don't until you read this book. My whole life I thought there was something wrong with me, and now I know I was normal all along. I wish I would have had this guidance as a teenager and just discovering the intricacies of my body. Just knowing the basics of your body and what's normal & what's not, will give you a confidence you can't imagine. If you have teenage daughters, buy this book and read it together. Outstanding !!!
This is an extraordinary book to prepare the board. Simple,concise, to the point. I upgraded from the second edition and it was really worth the upgrade. New chapters and new presentation with key concepts and case discussion worth reading. All time companion book !!

An excellent first textbook in Anaesthetics.
This book is well-presented, easy to read and, with the case scenarios presented at the end of each chapter, puts some of the most important clinical considerations in anaesthetics into a truly practical way. It is relatively small too, so that it is portable and can be referenced easily. All in all, an excellent book.

A "must have" for anesthesia
My absolute favorite anesthesia textbook. It is concise and very readable. A pure joy when one doesn't feel like trodding through Miller.

Excellent for beginners and board preparation
I have used this book during my residency along with Paul G. Barash (clinical anesthesiolgy). This book has value no matter what stage of your residency you are at. Each and every line is important. What you get out of it in your first year is different from what you get out of it in your final year. It is very helpful for the boards . You can get tired of reading massive chapters in Miller or Barash, so instead you can do the same chapter from Morgan and get concise information. Still a must have for primary providers
I previously lauded the 3rd edition. Now I am extremely impressed by the latest edition. There are more pictures and elaborate details about diagnosis and treatment. But what I consider the best improvement are the expanded tables in each chapter. These tables detail recommended evaluations, treatments and differential diagnosis.
THE BEST GOT BETTER

Detailed yet practical
I have used this book both for Dermatology class, in my dermatology rotation and in other rotations. It is a great resourse to just look up information. It has great pictures and is easy to sit and read and understand.

I can say I have definately gotten my money out of this book.

A must have for the primary care provider...
...for it is easy to use, written very clearly and it has wonderful pictures.
From the moment it was recommeded to me as a student to now, I have used it just about everyday.
Just as an example, Habif has a wonderful chapter on Acne that allows the primary care provider to manage this condition from its mildest to the more complicated forms. He describes the condition and the treatment options giving us a great resource for care.

Simply the best
This book receives a rating of five stars. It is clearly written, easy to understand, comprehensive, and contains practical information accompanied by hundreds of clear color photographs. This book is very helpful to me in my practice and I refer to it often. It really is a standard of excellence. I can't recommend the book more highly.

Multiple inaccurate answers
This study guide definitely needed more attention before it was published. I also have the 5th edition study guide and there are many mistakes that appear to be a lack of proofreading before publishing this newer edition. Many incongruencies here. I would recommend the 5th edition if you want to be certain of the tool you are using.

This Study Guide Has Incorrect Answers!!!
I have found many errors in this study guide. I thought I was crazy at first, then the rest of the nursing class had the same concern. The errors are in the answer section, it will give you the wrong letter for the multiple choice answer and the correct rationale. I have contacted the publisher and received no response. Nursing School is hard enough, don't add to it with a very frustrating study guide with the wrong answers.

Knowledge About Cerebrospinal Fluid Fistula
We have got the textbook and we thought that the book our main anesthesiology resource.

Recently we have a case of cerebrospinal fluid-cutaneous fistula following spinal anesthesia used for indirect inguinal hernia repair. But we couldn't see any comment in the textbook about the management of cerebrospinal fluid fistula from inthratecal space to skin due to postdural puncture for purpose of spinal (intrathecal) anesthesia.

Cutaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistula are known to occur rarely under spinal puncture during spinal anesthesia, and CSF leaks via that fistula. This complication is often self-limiting but sometimes needed some treatment procedures such as intravenous fluid restruction, patient prone position, strecth dressing of wound, epidural injection of autologous blood patche or fibrin glue, or uncommonly use of CSF drainage system.

We think that if this complication and its' management is included in new edition of the textbook it will be better.

In Depth Pediatric Reference
When I was on my PA Peds rotation, I often consulted this great reference in the medical library. Now, that I have my own book, I know its value. There is no other Pediatrics book out there that is better than this one. Don't waste your money on less expensive books like Current Pediatrics which doesn't cover half as many topics as Nelson. Also, for a great little pocket books, try Harriet Lane and Current Clinical Strategies Pediatrics 5 Minute Review.

Comprehensive Reference Work
The Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics covers just about
every possible subfield in childrens medicin. As
a lot of different authors have contributed, the style
tends to differ a lot between different sections and
chapters.

Some of the chapters, such as the one describing the
immune system, are very technical and only aimed at
the well-versed in microbiology, whereas others, like
the acutely ill child, are very descriptive and make
a compelling read.

NToP is a particularly useful reference work for
those who want to read a good description on a
particular pathology or disorder. It is not written
or intended as a diagnostic aid, but rather as
a starter to bring the reader up to speed in a
particular subject after the diagnosis has been made.

It is also not intended as "the last word" on anything.
For instance, although the pediatric cardiology section is
extensive, you will need rather more to discuss a complicated
case with the pediatric cardiologist at the local university
hospital.

Sadly, some topics are barely touched. Look for sliding
hernia or oesophagitis, for example, and you will be
disappointed.

This book is a useful investment both for medical
practicioners and the loving parents to which it is
dedicated.

Great features, further improvement possible
I don't think I need to explain how great the "Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics" is, so I focus on the features as software.

This product is based on a java applet and for Windows and Macintosh. For each of the chapter, about 30 review questions are available in a multiple-choice format. The answer is not only with alphabetical one, but also with a concise explanation with a link to the textbook. I find this feature very helpful. I haven't checked "Nelson Review of Pediatrics, 2nd ed., Behrman,R.E.CW.B.Saunders , 2000 263p", but the publisher says that this feature is based on this book.

Update service is available. Every time when you launch the program, you are asked whether it checks the updates. Full access to NelsonPediatrics.com for further information is also available, after you sign up on the web site. After all, the support service is awesome.

However, there are some things you should know as windows users, which is why I put 4 stars. First, you are required to use Netscape or Internet Explorer as your default browser. The browser must be new enough, too. Second, you must insert the CD-ROM every time you use this program, since it doesn't install all the files to your hard disk unlike the previous edition. Third, if you are using localized Windows other than English, you may have to replace some files. The procedure is as follows, quoted from the mail I got immediately from the support center:

Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics
This textbook is the gold standard of pediatric books. I used mine all through medical school and still use it in my practice. I highly recommend this text to students, residents and physcians. The thought provoking text and excellent illustrations make this a must have book. I couldn't practice without mine.

A Classic Textbook of Pediatrics
No medical text can ever be comprehensive, or completely up to date. The science of medicine advances so quickly that books are outdated the day they are published.

Nonetheless, "Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics" comes as close as possible. Along with another other classic pediatric text, "Rudolph's Pediatrics," Nelson's represents the best of pediatric medicine in America. Every pediatrician has a favorite, but Nelson's is the gold standard.

Nelson's is particularly strong in pediatric cardiology and immunology. For the latest in infectious disease, see the "Red Book" published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. For neonatology, developmental pediatrics, and the surgical sub-specialties, consult specialty books in those fields. For congenital malformations and syndromes, "Smiths's" (by Jones!) is a good place to start. For the latest in oncology, your best bet (after your local trusted oncologist) is to search Medline or the Web, but watch out for quackery. ... Read more

A surgical Bible
I was slightly disappointed by the fact that this book is considerably thinner than the previous edition -- we're losing something here. I found the Liver chapter a bit vague sometimes (e.g. on the precise indications for resection and/or transplantation for liver cancer), and chapters on fundamental topics such as Preoperative Care are rich in concepts but lacking in practical information. However, the Sabiston Textbook of Surgery, while somewhat less majestic, is still king -- some chapters, like Soft Tissue Sarcomas and Vascular Trauma (written by none less than Brennan and Mattox respectively) are outstanding. The chapters on Management of Acute Trauma, Surgery of Morbid Obesity, Cerebrovascular Disease and Gynecology, to name just a few, also deserve much praise. This tome is a must for all medical students and surgical interns/residents.

What you need to understand surgery in a concise way
Surgery, like everything in medicine, has a language of it's own. And when you, as a medical student, get to the surgical wards, you'll need a book to understand what is going on around you. Written in a pleasant way, it is divided in three practical sections: Surgery's general principles, general surgery and surgical specialities, just like in med school.
They give you a refreshment on basic sciences concepts critical for understanding surgical pathologies and then they tell you essentials of diagnosis and treatment of such pathologies.
Therefore, I recommend the book for medical students and General Practitioners who will need to answer the "Should I call the surgeon ? "question. Not very good descriptions on surgical procedures, and I would like it to have better illustrations, but I think it's worth the money.

Pleasant Reading!
This book provides a great review in all subjects of surgery in a concise way. The reading is easy and pleasant. Although, the last edition is from 1994, it's been still up-to-date. Great purchase!

A Must Have
A well written and edited book. Contains material that is quite focussed and essential, specially for those preparing for examinations. Although written more than seven years back it contains facts that some of the very popular books mentioned only lately in their recent editions.

That it is not coming out with another edition is a serious drawback. For this reason it is fast loosing the edge it has over other books.

Other shortcoming is lack of colored illustrations and photographs.

Not a textbook of surgery
I think this book might be helpful for those people who are looking for a book that gives you the surgical point of view of the disease, it doesn't focus exclusively on the surgical procedures and treatment, but it takes its time to explain a little more about the pathophysiology, symptoms and signs etc., of the illness,it's more like a book to start with.
