3-0 out of 5 stars Quick Reference for automotive formulas
One of the primary resources for creating my online gearcalculators. Besides the gear formulas I use, here are some others...

* Determine Displacement/Bore and Stroke

* Determine Compression Ratio

* Determine Carburetor CFM requirements

* Calculating Horsepower and Torque

* Weight Displacement

* Weight Transfer

* Determine Center of Gravity

and more...

This book does not overwhelm you with complex formulas. It keeps them simple. This a must have for the do-it-yourselfer automotive shelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting for the math-challenged, but needs revision
As soon as I got this book it grabbed me: it even has the history of the word, "horsepower!" There are many useful formulas here, all presented clearly and in layman's language. However, some of the material is dated; there are several pages devoted to programming your computer to figure out the answers to the formulas, and the author says that he has included a section to help in adapting the program to a computing favorite, the Commodore 64! Hmmm, I wonder if my old one still works? That he even mentions this computer is odd, considering that the book was published in '93!

But overall, I like most of the book, and I'm sure it will come it useful as I rebuild my LT1 engine...

3-0 out of 5 stars Its ok
Its nice cause it has alot of formula's, but it lacks the ones I was really after so for me it was a bit of a waste, nevertheless I can see it being usefull and its cheap so its a worthwhile investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Fantastic
This is a great reference book for the automobile enthusiast and performance tuner. All of the calculations are grouped into logical sections and explained well. I only wish that it came with a CD or diskette with all of the equations in a spreadsheet format. This is a keeper.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic information
The book in question can really help you prior to setting up your car. It takes most of the "hit or miss" guesswork out of street modifications. This is a must for any seroius street racer's library. ... Read more

Book Description

Buckle your seat belts. Number one New York Times bestselling author, Janet Evanovich, is moving into the fast lane with Metro Girl, a thrilling, high-octane misadventure with high stakes, hot nights, cold-blooded murder, sunken treasure, a woman with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, very sexy NASCAR driver who’s along for the ride.

"Wild" Bill Barnaby's dropped off the face of the earth and big sister Alex heads for Miami, Bill's last known sighting, on a harrowing hunt to save her brother ... and maybe the world. Truth is, Alex has been bailing her brother out of trouble since they were kids. Not that Bill's a bad sort. More that he acts first and thinks later. Unfortunately, this time around, Wild Bill will be Dead Bill if Alex doesn't find him in time.

Alex blasts through the bars of South Beach and points her search to Key West and Cuba, laying waste to Miami hit men, dodging Palmetto bugs big enough to eat her alive, and putting the pedal to the metal with NASCAR driver Sam Hooker.

Engaged in a deadly race, Wild Bill's "borrowed" Hooker's sixty-five foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset ... just when Hooker has plans for the boat. Hooker figures he'll attach himself to Alex and maybe run into Bill. Maybe Hooker can salvage what's left of his vacation. And maybe Hooker'll get lucky in love with Bill's sweetie pie sister. After all, Hooker is NASCAR Guy. And NASCAR Guy is good at revving a woman’s engine.

The race to the finish is hot and hard, taking Alex and Hooker into international waters, exposing a plot to grab Cuban gold and a sinister relic of the Cuban missile crises. Creative cussing and sexual innuendo included. ... Read more

Book Description

Girls and cars . . . or, more specifically, girls and hot rods. They go together like PBR and barbecue. Like humbuckers on a hollow-body, or pinstriping on primer. Since 1991, photographer David Perry has been feverishly distilling this timeless truth with an eye like no other. From Sac Town to Mirage, from O.C. to Paso, Perry’s images of drag-strip groupies, girlie grease monkeys, and backseat betties qualify as much more than your run-of-the-mill newsstand automotive cheesecake. Perry simultaneously evokes the great pin-up masters Vargas and Petty, the demented swagger of psychobilly, and the trashy glamour of alarmist JD pulp novels, B-movies, and that dusty stack of stag mags behind your granddaddy’s toolbox. Hot Rod Pin-ups features Perry’s very finest riffs on the cars-n-chicks theme, along with commentary by lowbrow-art and hot rod icon Robert Williams, Bay Area noir maestro Jim Nisbet, cultural commentator Eric Kroll, retro-rod scribe Kevin Thomson, and ! Gearhead Records honcho Mike LaVella. For good measure, the cars featured represent the likes of the George "King of Kustomizers" Barris, Vern Tardel, and Salinas Boy Cole Foster, among others.

David Perry has been burning film since he was 10 years old. Born in Denver, Colorado, and raised in Southern California, he studied photography at Art Center College of Design.His other books include Hot Rod (Chronicle Books, 1997) and Bordertown (Chronicle Books, 1998), both with writer Barry Gifford. Perry lives in Vallejo, California, with his wife Mary and son August. He drives a flathead-powered 1928 Ford hot rod and in 1999 helped resurrect the Swanx car club (est. 1956). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cars and girls
I hate to be a geek, but I was looking at the cars more than the girls the first time I went through this book. There are lots of famous hot rods here, rat rods and stylish customs too. But then, I noticed how cool all the photos are - Perry has an incredible eye for setting up a cool photo. Don't get me wrong, the women in here are beautiful and sexy, and I found out after reading the book (I paged through the first 10 times) that they are wearing vintage clothing too. But man if you love cool cars like me it's hard to decide what to look at.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC
This is a must-have for fans of retro hot rods and pin-up art.The cars are very primal - no billet or Boyd Cottingham crap here.They range from rat rods to lead sleds to full kustoms, as well as everything in between.And the models are in period-correct clothing (or out of said clothing!).Perry has noted personalities from the art and rodding worlds contributing essays, including Rob't. Williams.The author correctly evokes the period without beating you over the head with it; he captures it matter of factly.All the cars are interesting, with info on the car and the pin-up model given.Naturally, these gals are scorchingly hot.Guys, this is the genuine article.You need this book! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better
I've been waiting for this manual for a long time. Bentley's excellent VW manuals have been very high on the quality list for quite some time so I was excited to get this manual. Overall it is a great and is a must for the DIY mechanic who needs to know more about their car and can't afford the factory workshop manuals and I think that for the majority of individuals who won't be dropping engines and trannies this will sufice. My gripes are small. No detail on a lot of misc body stuff. The transmission section mentions both the 915 and later G50 transmissions but only shows how to dismantle and repair the 915. Heater and ventilation information is sparse (as always) at best.

I was surprised at how they did keep up with much of the Porsche tech bulletins that have come out during these model years as well as just the overall presentation. Very nice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not enough detail
This sure beats the orange covered "other" service manual and the $900 factory service manual in price. There are a lot of missing details like where to charge the A/C, rebuilding your Targa top (intricate locking mechanism details missing). Yes it shows breakdown of parts diagrams but some diagrams lack supporting text. This book is BIG and it is well worth spend. A nice thing I read in the beginning was a disclaimer stating that it may have errors or lack of info but the publisher is more than open to accept any ammendments from it's readers and that they were meticulous about providing the MOST ACCURATE data they could find. This is why you SHOULD HAVE this book because WE the people can make it better! It IS a "must-have" book if you are serious about maintaining your own 84-89 911 Carrera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bentley does a "Cadillac job" on Porsche!
The Porsche 911 Carrera Service Manual by Bentley Publishing is a MUST HAVE book for your automotive library. I bought my first Porsche a year ago, a rather worn '85 Cabriolet. One of the first "repair" purchases I made was $800+ worth of official Porsche repair manuals (the 11-volume set that Porsche provides its mechanics). I now wish that I had waited. Even after only two days of owning the Bentley Manual, I can already tell it will be the most dog-eared and grease-smeared of the lot!

It has 10 main sections, the first one being an overview: General Data & Maintenance; Engine; Engine Management, Exhaust, & Engine Electrical; Transmission; Suspension, Brakes, & Steering; Body - Assembly; Body - Components & Accessories; Body - Trim, Seats; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning; and Electrical System. Each section has several subsections, and in typical German style they are all number coded. Each subsection starts with a general description of what it covers and includes a simple picture guide for any special tools that may be needed in that category (extremely helpful to me as a novice). For example, Section 201 Fuel Supply recommends three special tools: 1) a fuel hose pinch clamp; 2) a fuel pressure gauge; and 3) an automotive digital mulitmeter. The subsections also have straightforward, no-nonsense written steps, which are complemented by literally dozens of pictures. The pictures are simply amazing: very clear, and where needed, highlighted with arrows or alphanumeric characters. (Even Mr. Magoo could find his way through this!) Plus, there is plenty of room for you to add your own notes in the margin, if you so desire.

The book is not perfect, though. I am in need of information on carpet/floorboard repair and dashboard gauge repair (odometer, speedometer, etc.), and neither is in this book. In the grand scheme of things, however, these are small.

One final note... while this appears to be written for those who already own a 911, it can be equally helpful to anyone who is in the market to purchase one. Most savvy Porsche buyers will demand a pre-purchase inspection anyway, so the prospective buyer may just want to consider this as part of that expense. Yet, this book is not an expense, but rather an investment that will continue to provide dividends for a long time to come. ... Read more

Book Description

It started as a daydream. Poring over a map of the world at home one quiet Saturday afternoon, Ewan McGregor - actor and self-confessed bike nut - noticed that it was possible to ride all the way round the world, with just one short hop across the Bering Strait from Russia to Alaska. It was a revelation he couldn't get out of his head. So he picked up the phone and called Charley Boorman, his best friend, fellow actor and bike enthusiast. 'Charley,' he said. 'I think you ought to come over for dinner...'

From London to New York, Ewan and Charley chased their shadows through Europe, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia, across the Pacific to Alaska, then down through Canada and America. But as the miles slipped beneath the tyres of their big BMWs, their troubles started. Exhaustion, injury and accidents tested their strength. Treacherous roads, unpredictable weather and turbulent politics challenged their stamina. They were chased by paparazzi in Kazakhstan, courted by men with very large guns in the Ukraine, hassled by the police, and given bulls' testicles for supper by Mongolian nomads.

And yet despite all these obstacles they managed to ride over 20,000 miles in four months, changing their lives forever in the process. As they travelled they documented their trip, taking photographs, and writing diaries by the campfire. Long Way Round is the result of their adventures - a fascinating, frank and highly entertaining travel book about two friends riding round the world together and, against all the odds, realising their dream. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute must have
You simply cannot think about buying a used 911 without reading this book. As a fellow who has been around Porsches for over 30 years, Pete Zimmermann's knowledge is second to none. This is the one book that you need to really guide you through the purchase process. The writing is clear and direct and the photos are excellent. More inside information than you could find in two dozen magazines or web sites. Highly recommended!

It has nice information about all of the major weaknesses of each model which may help you get a better idea of what you are truly looking for in a porsche. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Master Speaks
When a rider and writer of Nick Ienatsch's stature puts all his wisdom, knowledge and experience into a book, it's time to sit up and listen carefully, especially these days when 100-HP 600s and 140-HP 1,000s are ripping 10-second quarter miles at 140+ (G-SXR 1000 tests) and are available to anyone with $ whether or not they have a clue.
Nick is among the very best writers about motorcycling, ever, up there with Don Canet and Kevin Cameron (no point in ranking them subjectively, because all three are excellent). He is also a champion racer, primarily on 250s. Having ridden on the road with him, I attest to his smooth, skilled way of proceeding, and his concern for safety.
This book should be required reading for every rider who puts a wheel on road or track. Once read, it should be memorized and used as the core belief set that will make a rider quicker and safer, and every ride more enjoyable, including anyone else who is along for the pleasure of it. No one should dare suggest that he or she is 'above it,' knows better and 'doesn't need' the lessons Ienatsch teaches. We all do. This book will, among other things, keep a rider alive to ride again and enjoy one of the most interesting and pleasurable ways to get down the road devised by Man.
Don't argue with me. Get it.
PS One of life's ironies is that Ienatsch, one of the best writers on motorcycling who ever puts finger to keyboard, doesn't have a regular gig and is only read intermittently in CYCLE WORLD. Let's hope that changes, soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I purchased my first motorcycle about two years ago and since then I have spent a lot of time trying to become a safe and fast rider. Having said that, I wish I would have bought this book a year ago; I would be so much further along. I've been riding one time since reading this book and the difference in my riding is astounding. Its amazing what a few adjustments can make. I highly recommend this book for people new to the world of motorcycleing. It can not only teach you the skills necessary to preserve your life, it will make your rides a great deal more fulfilling. Thank you Nick Ienatsch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Real World Skills
Great book. Lots of big glossy pictures of current sport bikes. I consider it a resource book. I keep re-reading it and applying the lessons in the canyons. Especially liked sections on braking and throttle control. Looking forward to California SpeedWay in few weeks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginners.
I bought this book based on a review in a sportbike magazine. When I got the book in the mail, I was really impressed with the layout and overall quality of the book. Nice, glossy pages with large pictures of modern sportbikes and easy to read text and captions. However, once I started reading it I noticed that the tips and techniques, while valuable, are really aimed at newer, less experience riders. Subjects are not discussed in the detail I was hoping for and issues like basic suspension set-up or advice on performance modification were not covered at all.

I guess I was hoping for a "Twist of the Wrist 2" meets "Total Control..." meets "Sportbike Performance Handbook" type of book. Not even close. Still, I believe this is a very high quality piece of literature that can be enjoyed by both entry level and experienced riders alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must read for New and Experienced Riders
I am a new rider and my skills improved dramatically with each chapter. This book is an easy and quick read. In fact, its totally engaging.

Nick shares his years of experience and demonstrates that safety and speed are not mutually exclusive. By taking his advice to heart, one can learn to feel the relationship that must exist between the rider, the machine and the pavement. Once understood and practiced, you'll be carving up the road as quickly and safely as possible. What a thrill!

Experienced riders will appreciate that each chapter ends with a "Lesson's from the Racetrack" section. So the tips and/or refresers make this book a must read for any rider, in my humble opinion.

If nothing else, its worth the price for the incredible photos. Enjoy and I'll see you on the coast. :-) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Creates an excellent foundation.
An excellent book for learning about fiberglass/composites. Before reading this book, I had little knowledge about composties, but a desire to learn. The information is presented in a way that anyone can understand it. Aird educates the reader about different fiber types and weaves, resins and resin systems, gel coat, trade tools, safety, and basic lay-up. He also includes information on molds, plugs, and strength/stress -- though I feel these sections make having some hands-on knowledge of composites an asset, which I lack. It is an excellent book that can take you from knowing nothing, to a point where you can talk intelligently about composites with someone in the FRP field. As other reviews have pointed out, this is not a step by step manual; but is probably a prerequisite to actually understanding one. In conclusion: I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about fiberglass and composite systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the price
I had an interest in getting into Fiberglassing, so i bought this book. As most of the other people who reviewed this book said, it's not a step by step manual, but it offers a very good overview. Good enough that i ended up buying a second copy for a friend. If you have an interest, i would recommend this book. It's worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fiberglass & Composite Materials : An Enthusiast's Guide to
This is an excellent overview of materials and current practices.

You might want to consider getting the book MARINE COMPOSITES ( on your site to compliment Mr. Aird's good book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview
This book is more of an overview than a step-by-step instruction book, but it still contains a great deal of highly practical information. If you are thinking of using composites in a car, homebuilt plane, or boat, this book is a good first step. It is one of the few that is up-to-date enough to treat the new epoxy systems and fibers like Kevlar and carbon as practical options.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good general information, not a step by step guide.
The book provides information about many different types of composite materials. It discusses the differences in these materials and why you would choose one over the other. It is definately not a step by step guide nor is it geared to any one specific use of composite materials. This is probably a book for a boat/race car/airplane designer who needs to know more about the different types of composites out there. It also covers building molds and plugs; something more for the commercial person than the do it yourselfer. If you just want to build/repair a boat or a car there are better books out there. If you have no clue about the different types of fiberglass cloth and resins and the like and you are about to start a big project, then maybe this is the book for you. Just remember, it is not a step by step guide and it does not go into great detail on any one specific topic. It is sort of an industry overview. ... Read more

Book Description

The shocking confession of a five-time murderer

When I arrived at the restaurant, my boss gave me a wad of $20 bills, which amounted to some $2,000. He was acting as though money was burning a hole in his pockets. But this suited me fine. Melou often acted that way. He didn’t want me to run out of money. A happy killer is a productive killer.

When he was fifteen years old, Serge Quesnel started hanging out in strip bars and committing minor thefts and burglaries. He soon became known to the police. He learned more about crime when he served time, first in a detention centre, and then later in the infamous Donnacona federal penitentiary. On his release, he was ready to realize his true ambition, to become a confederate of the Hells Angels.

To achieve this ambition, he set out to prove that he could hurt, maim, and kill people efficiently and without a qualm. His first murder victim was a drug dealer who was giving the local Angels chapter trouble. He and a friend beat the dealer to a pulp and then calmly wiped the crime scene clean of fingerprints. The Angels were impressed. He moved to Trois-Rivières and became a full-time enforcer.

Quesnel, having now “sold out” to the authorities and assumed a new identity, tells his story of violence and betrayal in chilling detail to Quebec journalist, Pierre Martineau. The resulting chronicle is a modern crime classic.

1-0 out of 5 stars I was a killer for the Hells Angels: The Story of Serge
Not a very good or entertaining book. More of a ramblimg egomaniac's diary. The book did not contain much detail on the events and jumped around way too much. He tries to make himself into a heavy and when it got hot he turned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I just finished reading this book yesterday. It's a great book, not much detail in regards to the angels, it's just a biography on one of it's members. Good story, very easy read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hit the Road and Live it Up
This is an excellent, excellent book for anyone who wants to take a road trip as a vacation and see the country like you've never seen it before. I used this book to see so many funky pieces of Americana: everything from a miniature Stonehenge in Missouri to the world's largest ketchup bottle in Illinois. I traveled Rte. 66 and stayed at a great little motel in Missouri (Munger Moss) recommended by this book. That motel is a must for any Rte. 66 fans: its gift shop is filled with Rte. 66 memorabilia. And it's cheap!! $25 a night with clean rooms. The whole idea of this book is to get people to see that America isn't all the same, though it seems that way when you stay on the highways. It's filled with great road trips to take wherever you are in the country, north or south, east or west. It's really an amazing country we live in and you'll find out that you can have a great vacation traveling endless roads that provide new discoveries.

You'll get a whole new perspective on areas you may have visited. And the author offers suggestions on places to go to get a local flavor. So instead of eating at a McDonald's or Denny's for breakfast, you can try a diner in Memphis that Elvis used to frequent.

A couple of my Chicago-based colleagues were very impressed when I told them I ate at Berghoff's and Lou Mitchell's in downtown Chicago. They said nobody from out-of-town would have gone there.

It's like having a knowledgeable traveling companion with you wherever you go. I enjoyed every town and city I visited on a two-week trip thanks to this book.

I've looked at other travel guides and they don't compare to this book. High praise to Jamie Jensen for creating such an informative book, packed full of useful nuggets. This book was never far from my fingertips on that trip.

I'm planning a motorcycle road trip in the near future and will definitely have this book along. I only wish I had more time to take more of these road trips.

Enjoy and happy motoring.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Book You'll Need
Just last week I returned from taking several of Jamie Jensen's road trips in the USA, and I can attest to the high quality of his book. We set out with Lonely Planet's USA guidebook which greatly failed us. Typical of Lonely Planet's laziness (their television series greatly outranks their travel books),their USA book was wrought with so many errors and outdated information that we quickly reverted to Road Trip USA thereby enhancing the remainder of our 8,200 mile trip around the USA and making it a truly educational, one month drive. We really saw the USA from beautiful back roads and will never regret it. Instead we owe a huge debt of graditute to the author and his editors.

I've used almost every travel book available when traveling, so I have absolutely no doubt that this is the best book available if you are considering taking a drive in the USA. We drove 3 of the major trips in this book--including Route 66, The Oregon Trail, and The Great River Road--and if we had depended on other books, the truth is, we would have missed almost every great site Jensen points out. He and his editors have accomplished more than I'd have ever hoped from a mere travel guide. If you use this book for even part of one road trip, you will see the real USA.

The book provides indepth coverage of eleven road trips in a lively, knowledgeable, and educated format highlighted with many great photographs and asides in the margins of corresponding trip narratives. All routes are readable from either direction one chooses to drive them as we found driving the Great River Road from south to north instead as outlined in the book--from north to south--and we had no problems whatsoever because Jensen has thought of every angle for us.

Road Trip USA is jam packed with hints, "secrets," history, gossip, lore, and myths, in addition to advice on great places to take photographs of unique sights, best spots to find perfect pie, local radio stations to tune in for local flavor, and out-of-the-way lodging and camping information that other books will not even mention. If you prefer the superhighway, this is not the book for you. If you want to see the America you hope is out there, this book will help you find it. I give it my highest recommendation. As far as I can tell, he didn't miss a thing! And I can now say without reservation, this is a beautiful country. END

3-0 out of 5 stars interesting read
It was an interesting read as we were traveling across the old roads of route 66 however, there was not much information that was helpful. We stayed at a motel in the midwest that was recommended but, it cost much much more than was indicated in the book and was on of the worst motels I have ever stayed in. Take the book as entertainment only.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for all road travellers
This book is quite simply in a league of it's own. I have only done (partially) two of the eleven routes. It's the little things this book has that counts and the highlights of the trip that are listed at the beginning of each chapter are handy.
Of course, this book can't be everything and I would seriously recommend also taking a good comprehensive USA Guide Book from say 'Frommers' with you as sometimes the book misses out on some things along the way that a comprehensive guide book can fill in. I would also recommend having a good road map. The maps in the book aren't the best and since you're not on the Interstate you don't want to take a wrong turn and be in the middle of nowhere lost.
So, If you're planning a Road Trip in the USA check this book out. You won't regret it (plus it's just such a neat book to have in the bookshelf that will never grow old).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Road Trip Must
I used this book on a trip following the Mississippi, from New Orleans to Chicago, and it made my road trip epic. Without it, I would have missed spectacular yet obscure sights like the restaurant shaped like a mammy in Mississippi and the world's largest ketchup bottle in southern Illinois. You will miss so much if you just drive on the eight-lane interstates, yet seeing the cool stuff on the two-lane roads can be hit or miss without someone to show you the way. Let this book be your guide. A gem for all road trip pilgrims. ... Read more

Book Description

If you own a small marine diesel engine that you depend on--at least occasionally--this book was written for you. Nigel Calder, a diesel mechanic of many years' experience, a good writer, and perceptive teacher, has written a guide that is clear, logical, and acutally interesting. A boatowner born with a monkey wrench in his hand will find Marine Diesel Engines useful and agreeable; a mechanical illiterate will find it a godsend.

Here in nine extensively illustrated chapters is everything you need to keep you diesel engine running cleanly and efficiently--saving you a world of frustration, discomfort, and even peril, not to mention time-and-a-half weekend mechanics' charges.

"One of the best books on marine diesels to appear in some time."--Ocean Navigator

"The most up-to-date and readable book we've seen on the subject."--Sailing World

"Even if you never intend to put a spanner near your engine, and know your mechanic's home phone number by heart, this book deserves a place on any diesel-powered boat."--Motor Boat & Yachting, London

5-0 out of 5 stars Know Your Diesel
My copies of this book has grease stained fingerprints throughout. A lot of folks have told me they think this book is redundant, because much of the info is covered in Mr. Calder's Mechanical & Electrical Manual but this smaller book is easier to work with when working around your engine and the material is presented differently enough that the book is one I believe you should have if you live on a boat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Leave The Dock Without it
With this book aboard plus Peter Compton's "Marine Diesel Engines" and your engine manual you can cruise with an easy mind. The first two books explain all aspects of diesel function as well as define any problem you may have, with diagrams, explanations, and tips to cope. Calder also has photographs. The engine manual shows you how this relates to your particular engine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get to know YOUR engine !!
As a new boatowner knowing next to nothing about engines this book has helped me identify key parts of my own engine and explain what their functions are. The book provides clear troubleshooting procedures (hope I will not need those since I intend to follow the suggested maintenance procedures instead) and information on how to diagnose different symptoms.

The book is covering basic engine parts, more in depth explanations of engine parts, fuel system, how to troubleshoot start problems, diagnosing different sounds and symptoms, maintenance and repair procedures (probably more than most of us will want to perform ourselves - like opening up cylinders and decarbonizing the engine). I especially liked the chapter about engine selection and installation which discussed various aspects of hull, engine, exhaust and transmission fittings.

Illustrations are good and applicable accross engine brands. Warning: The book kept me awake several nights because I had to check things the very next day after reading a chapter.

1-0 out of 5 stars You can find better ones
Not a good book, not specialized in anything, when it actualy get to the poind of the explanation/suggestion it direct you to a local dealer (well thanks a lot)

try the "The Jeep Bible"

2-0 out of 5 stars To all TJ/YJ owners
Even though the newest edition says it has been updated to include up to the 1999 model, information on the YJ/TJ Wranglers is slim at best. It is only two stars for all YJ/TJ owners. This is s true CJ or classic Jeep owner book and has much info on those models. A lot info in this book is too basic. It needs severe updating for the newer models. I would rate it a four star for any CJ owner.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great first accessory for your Jeep
This book makes great reading for new Jeep owners who are starting to feel the "Jeep Thing". It is by no means a repair manual (grab a Chiltons if you're interested in repair information), but will give you very detailed information about each area of your vehicle and provides a very detailed history along the way. For example, the chapter on winches and off-road accessories goes into great detail about the types of gears found in winches and the pros and cons of each.

Each chapter is readable on its own. So, if you happen to be interested in suspension upgrades one day and are tired of reading various Jeep catalogs, flip open to that chapter and read on.

Other reviews have pointed out that the information on the TJ is lacking. I have to agree on this point. When I originally purchased the book I was expecting a full treatment of the TJ with some additional information about previous Jeeps. In fact, the opposite is true. Information about the TJ has been added throughout the book, but the TJ isn't a main theme. ... Read more
