5-0 out of 5 stars I Love the Magic Tree House Series!
This is my favorite book in the whole Magic Tree House series, because they wrote about a new dinosaur called Giganotosaurus. It was even bigger than T-Rex, and if they find more fossils of Giganotosaurus, it will be the king of dinosaurs. I think it was funny when Annie pretended to be Dromiceiomimus because she looked silly with huge eyes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, entertaining and educational.
What a wonderful idea. Mary Pope and Will Osborne share the research that they put in to writing "Dinosaurs Before Dark" with their readers in a fun and entertaining way. My 8-year old daughter has devoured this book and "Knights and Castles : A Nonfiction Companion to the Knight at Dawn". These books are not only instructing her on the particular subject of each book, but they are also teaching her how to do research on her own. They also build vocabulary and fill her head with wonderous thoughts and questions. I highly recommend this series to every young reader and their parents.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book and a great idea.
Thank you Will and Mary Pope Osborne. My 8-year old daughter has always been a fan of the Magic Tree House books and we have always appreciated the educational value of the books. It always was apparent that you had researched the background and facts about the various situations Jack and Annie found themselves in. Sharing the research with your ardent and eager readers is a gift. My daughter devoured the Dinosaurs Research Guide with enjoyment and enthusiasm. She is moved to share her new knowledge with us all. Reading the book has inspired her to continue researching on her own. And, she also says she is looking forward to reading more Research Guides. I highly reccommend this book and any that encourages children to seek and learn on their own.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book.
I loved the book Dinosaurs because it tells me so much about dinosaurs and it is interesting at the same time. It was fun to read. It was written as if by Jack and Annie and I really liked the part where Annie pretended to be a "silly-sourus". I look forward to reading more Mary Pope Osborne Research Guides. ... Read more

Book Description

Here is everything young readers want to know about dinosaurs and their world—in one magnificently illustrated, up-to-date family reference. Through dramatic graphics and age-appropriate text, this authoritative volume charts the discovery of all the main types of dinosaurs and reveals the latest details on how these creatures most likely looked, behaved, defended themselves, found food, cared for their young, and interacted.

Stunning murals, based on scientific evidence, depict various dinosaurs in their habitats—beautifully complementing the color photographs, paintings, charts, and maps. Some 53 major types of dinosaurs are described, representing a wide range of physical structures, sizes, and lifestyles.

The book presents recent discoveries and current scientific thought—including the dinosaur-bird connection, profiles of feathered dinosaurs, and theories on dinosaur extinction. Readers also see how today’s paleontologists obtain evidence, piece together clues, and continue to reconstruct life in prehistoric times.

5-0 out of 5 stars NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC DINOSAURS
National Geograpic Dinosaurs by Paul Barrett was an excellent book. It was written for both kids and old folks like myself. The book outlines all the different types of dinosaurs (except Spinosaurous-unfortunately)- a dinosaurs that dominated the movie Jurassic Park 3. Dinosaur lovers will love this book, the subject matter, the descriptions and colored photos, and the required detail of each dinosaur type. An excellent birthday or Christmas gift-like all National Geographic products and shows.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dinosaurs!
My three year old is just discovering dinosaurs and loves to look through this book. As a life long enthusiast, I have loved having the opportunity to share with him and learned a lot myself from this resource. There is information here for any age group. The book clearly outlines dinosaur families and discusses individual species in detail. The illustrations are fantastic. Any family with an interest in dinosaurs would love this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars National Geographic, shape up PLZ !
I must confess that I bought this book solely for a few of
Raul Martins illustrations.
I think it would be ok to call it a beginnersbook for adults and why not teenagers, but not for younger children bcause the textstyle is not suited for this purpose ( I'm a teacher ).

I was really disappointed with the layout, especially the colourphotographs as many of them have extremly low resolution, blurry ,very small and too dark and also illogically placed and cropped ( similar photos can be found with better quality on the internet) :(

Many of the paintigs are clumsily placed or so that critical parts of them get obscured by the midsection or folding. I'm sure the illustrator wept.

My critisism may seem a bit harsh but I never thought National Geographic would agree to this kind of hastywork in layout matters.

Anyway....while being interested in paleoart I still think its worth having due to some paintings of Raul Martin although I grind my teeth everytime I see those bad pictures.

Shape up PLZ !

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE
MY 7YR OLD BOY LOVES THIS BOOK...
EXCELLANT PICURES AND DETAIL..WILL ENJOY THIS ONE FOR
MANY A YEAR.

5-0 out of 5 stars National Geographic: Dinosaurs
National Geographic: Dinosaurs written by Paul Barrett and illustrated by Raul Martin is a richly illustrated and fact-filled book about dinosaurs that ruled the Earth of 160 million years.

This book has stunning artwork making your imagination work overtime as you read the fascinating descriptions and there is a size chart with a human silhouette giving the reader a reality as to the size of some of these dinosaurs.

But, size is not the only thing discussed in this book, for instance, what were dinosaurs like, what did they eat, how did they interact, where were the fossil remains found, and what kind of habitat were they living in. All of there questions are answered to the best of todays painstaking research, informed imagination, and excavation by some of todays foremost dinosaur experts.

What I found very interesting is the integrative biology, how the dinosaurs not only acted within like kind or with different species, but also how the flora played and important roll in how the dinosaurs acted. Also, toward the back of the book, there is a chapter on the different theories as to why and how the dinosaurs became extinct.

This is a very good, well-illustrated and a very readable narrative. This book is well worth the money for an extremely fine reference book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's go to the dentist!
this is the BEST dentist book i have yet to get for my son! He loves it,and I do too!

The 'real' pictures are an added bonus and everything is done just right!

You won't be dissapointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for any Barney fan!
Even though the age for this book is from 4-8, my 2 year old loves it. She asks to read, "Barney Dentist" all of the time, even though she has about 15 other Barney books. I hope it will help her to not be afraid of the dentist when it comes her time to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant!
There has been a noted shortage of great allegorical novels in recent years; "Barney Goes To The Dentist" plays a great role in redressing the balance. Ms Dowdy's simple tale of a purple dinosaur's trip to the dentist serves as an excellent background for a narration of the change of political paradigms in Europe after the Spanish victory over the Turks at Lepanto in 1571. The novel draws heavily from G. K. Chesterton's narrative poem, but Ms Dowdy is able to bring a great deal that is all her own. I found particularly notable and ironic the manner in which she addressed the reaction of Antwerp anabaptists after the battle and King Philip's response. I would say that Ms Dowdy perhaps gives less credit than do traditional sources to Don Juan of Austria's role in subsequent Hapsburg military affairs, but this approach is interesting, even if you disagree with it. In short, an interesting and enlightening approach to an valuable topic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Barney Goes to the Dentist
This is a great book for your child to get to see the inside of the Dentist Office and not be afraid because Barney is there. Great tool for the teachers or Dental Professional to use to talk with small children for Childrens Dental Health Month. (Febuary)

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for a child's first visit to the dentist.

Book Description

Suppose you were hunting around in the desert for a fossil and instead you found a real (and very large) dinosaur, genus Stegosaurus. Joan and Joey Brown did! Only nobody would believe they had found one, which was just as well because George (as they called him) was very shy.

He was a loyal friend, though, and he did his best to help the twins with their schemes to make money to finance their mother's dry little ranch on Cricket Creek. George ate sagebrush, looked for fossils, and fought an airplane (which he thought was a Pteranodon) with faithful enthusiasm, but his nut-sized brain often made him more hindrance than help. Especially when he went after the bank robber!

Mrs. Lampman has told her hilarious story so convincingly that you'll be looking for dinosaurs around every mesa. And who knows? Maybe you'll find one! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fond memories of childhood
What's amazing is that there are five other reviews here of this obscure children's book, which has to be almost 40 years old. One reviewer here recalls reading the book back in 1964, which is about the year I would have read it. And we all seem to have fond memories of reading this delightful book. This story about George the shy stegosaurus was one of the most entertaining children's books I (and apparently, all the other reviewers here, too) ever read, which, from the title, you might think we were all nuts. But back in the early 60's this was state-of-the-art for children's books, and it really was a great little book. It skillfully integrated a dinosaur theme with the story of the curious little brother and sister who discovered his hideaway, and things take off from there. I understand there are occasional rare, used copies available--but unfortunately they're not cheap.

Lampman also wrote several other books, Rusty's Spaceship, one other shy stegosaurus book, The Shy Stegosaurus of Indian Springs, and The World Under the Back Steps. Rusty's Spaceship was another one of my favorites. In this book, Rusty and his alien friend, Tipia, go gallivanting around the solar system, having various adventures, before returning to earth, where they have a few more in their invisible spaceship.

All these are great books for your kids. If you can find reasonably priced used copies, they're all worth picking up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shy Steosaurus of Cricket Creek
I read this book years ago, about 1964. It has been an all-time favorite. Beautifully written. Anyone who reads this book is going to love George the Stegosaurus and his two friends, Joey and Joan, the children who found him. This is a wonderful book to read to your older children, age 10 more or less. I suggest we all read this book again for old-times sake!! Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life.......
Strange, but if I were to pick the two books that have had the biggest influence on my life, this would be one of them--the other being The Brother Karamazov (but that's another review).

I remember reading this book, just before my tenth birthday. The story was so dramatic, so moving (remember--I'm nine years old here), the characters so vivid--even though I knew it was fiction, that there really wasn't any stegosaurus (never mind a shy one who spoke english & wagged his tail like a dog), that after finishing it, I cried harder than I ever remember crying in my life. NOTE: The stegosaurus does not die--nobody dies. But somehow, that made it worse for me--The seemly imposible bind of a continued lonely existance for the stegosaurus: too shy to meet anyone, too social not to.

So while I was unable to stop crying, barely able between the sobs to explain to my poor mother (a saint, believe me) the terrible agony of this non-existent dinosaur's life, refuting all of my mother's suggestions about what the stegosaurus might have done in his new life away from Cricket Creek, at the same time I knew I loved this book. This book was the first book that really touched me--a book that communicated real emotion, that moved me more than anything else ever had.

A book about two kids and a talking dinosaur, written five years before I was born. I still love this book, because it was the first book that made me cry--and from that moment on, I knew I would always love books....because every once in awhile, they can make you cry about things that do not even exist.

Would a hip hop happening kid of today like this book? I do not know. I still love it. I bought it for my nieces, but I think it was a little to square for them. But many kids today still read (and cry over) Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. So who knows...

And while you are at it, read Sid Fleishman's Mr. Mysterious & Company. That book is even better than Shy Stegosaurus....

5-0 out of 5 stars Joan & Joey first meet George while hunting for a fossil
George is strong, loyal and shy. He's also a Stegosaurus dinosaur. When Joan and Joey Brown first meet George while hunting around in the dessert for a fossil, they meet George and life is never the same again! George tries his best to help the twins make money to finance their mother's dry little ranch on Cricket Creek. Their adventures include George taking on an airplane (he thinks it is a Pteranodon), and going after a bank robber! With black-and-white illustrations by Hubert Buel, Evelyn Lampman's The Shy Stegosaurus Of Cricket Creek is wonderful reading, and ideal for young readers ages 8 to 12. Also highly recommended are Lampman's other children's books, The Shy Stegosaurus Of Indian Springs; The City Under The Back Steps; and Rusty's Space Ship.

5-0 out of 5 stars Back in print at last!
Last year I bought a used copy of this book for $60, and considered it a bargin!

I loved this book as a child and wanted to share it with my eight year old daughter in hopes that she would enjoy it as much as I did at her age. She does, and I'm hoping that the sequel, "The Shy Stegosaurus of Indian Springs" will also be reprinted. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the sequal
I am taking a music class and the author is related to our instructor. I heard this story in a fun and entertaining way, through music. It is just a really cute story with rhyming that makes it fun. I am looking forward to the sequal!

5-0 out of 5 stars DinoMom
My 3 year old and 5 year old love this book. I even love this book. I have to re-read it several times each night.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dino-disappointment
I was sorely disappointed with the text of this book. The use of "dino" before numerous words does not a catchy story make. I'm a huge fan of the illustrator and my toddler is a huge fan of dinosaurs, so we were eager for the book to arrive. The story, though, is written in such a way that it could be anything -- bears, people, dogs, aliens. There's nothing uniquely DINOSAUR about the characters. I was really hoping for a clever story that married the nature of dinosaurs with the life of a sailor -- perhaps even *teaching* me something about dinosaurs or life at sea. No such luck. The rhythm feels stilted, many of the rhymes sound flat and the two-page spread of all the dinosaurs spewing green vomit off the sides of the ship really is too much. As alluring as the cover art is, I recommend you pass on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
My 2.5 year old thinks this is soooo funny. She loves to look at the pictures and she gets the humor of the story. A wonderful and creative book! Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dino-fans Take Note!
In this rhyming high-sea adventure we meet a crew of delightful dinosailors who are "hale and hearty-dinotough! / They talk of salty sailing stuff: / Blocks and winches, dinocleats, / Shackles, tacking, trimming sheets."

After readying their ship, and raising anchor using "dinoforce," they head out with the wind. They sing sea songs and "have a ball." That is, until they meet with a storm. They bump into walls-and each other. "They mash the mast and ram the rails." They also become seasick. (One double-paged spread shows the dinosailors being sick-thankfully from a distance.) This is enough to convince the bunch to return to blessedly firm land and their homes.

They don't, however, remain at home for long. "Once more they hear adventure's cry, / So dinotravelers say good-bye." This time they choose a more stable form of transportation-a train.

The gouache and watercolor illustrations, done in bold, bright colors, are a perfect match for the text. Fine uses various perspectives to great effect.

Dinosailors works well as a read-aloud and also for one-on-one sharing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dany and the dino
This is the third and last book about Danny and the dinosaur. In this book Danny takes the dinosaur with him to summer camp. Of course they have unusual adventures. This book tells about their first day at camp.

The story flows much better than either of the previous two Danny and the dinosaur books, but the story still lacks a certain charm and the plot still feels rather strained. Illustration wise both Danny and the dinosaur look a lot more like they did in the first book. All of the pictures are cute and I find it amazing how expressive a dinosaur's face can be. I do find however, that the way they chose to color in the pictures makes them look rather harsh.

The reason I give this book four stars and not five is that it is still missing some charm that I know this author can provide, because he did so with Sammy the Seal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming Addition to Mr. Hoff's Danny & the Dinosaur Series
Danny's big Jurassaic age pal is back for another adventure. Danny returns to the museum and takes his friend the dinosaur to summer camp where they experience a typical day in the life of a camper. Mr. Hoff's has hit his mark again. Danny and the dinosaur go to camp offers a clear and simple presentation of the kinds of values we should all strive for. The dinosaur potentially a creature of fear, is gentle, noble and considerate. Values such as acceptance of those unlike ourselves, sharing, participation and friendship are expressed with simple eloquence in both word and illustration. While meant for early readers, the story is engaging for all ages.

This book may also help allay the fear of detachment experienced by many children prior to attending their first summer in camp. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
I saw the documentary and now I saw the book! Oh my God! This vlume sets new standards for book design/layout, fantastic computer illustrations, photographs etc... Sure some of the information concerning these beasts is guesswork but not much. Remember, many experts within the field of paleobiology have put in their `2 cents worth`and they know what they are talking about. As a fisheries biologist, i enjoyed the idea of a book that deals with the life histories of these animals on a day by day basis. Book of the year!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Get to know ancient beasts!
A diverse audience from young children to adults will be enthralled with this companion to the television series produced by the BBC and follow-up to Walking with Dinosaurs (DK, 2000). The evolution of life on earth since the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction is illustrated as readers might view this world on a safari. The sequence begins forty-nine million years ago and in six episodes progresses to a year in the life of a mammoth 30,000 years ago. The adventure presents familiar sabre-toothed tigers, mammoths, and primates, as well as the less well-known early whales and hyaenodons. The narrative for each group of animals focuses on a fictional vignette that presents scientific knowledge with captivating creativity. One narrative depicts early horses of the Eocene forest, whereas another highlights the fighting entelodonts. Major fossil finds, analysis of fossil evidence, geological processes, and time lines are interspersed in sidebars for in-depth science. More careful editing of time lines would have corrected a misplaced divergence of apes and hominids as twenty-million years ago rather than four-million years ago, as correctly stated in the text. The colored illustrations are awesome, the stories captivating, and the information comprehensive. A younger or only mildly interested student will probably enjoy the illustrations and narratives but skip the more technical sidebars. This one is a must-buy for any library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Carnivorous ground-sloth?!
I bought two copies of this book: one for myself and one for a 12-year-old relative. The illustrations are superb, the information secure and grounded on the latest paleontological finds, the narrative intersting...in short, one fine example of BBC expertise in documentary-making. However, there's something that has, I'm afraid, gone astray in Chapter 5, where the author, in order to arrange for a confrontation between a pride of saber-tooth tigers and a giant ground sloth, comes with the idea that ground-sloths scavenged carcasses from predators "to supplement their diet". Now, where did this come from? I've never heard the slightest hint of evidence about that, and I found this particular piece of informed guess-work somewhat aberrant, to say the least. Seems like something atuned to the necessities of more dramatic story-telling of a kind of Pleistocene telenovela - perhaps because ground-sloths lived in what today is Argentina? Outside from this (admittedly small)slip, however, the book deserves to be bought, kept and cherished, from one generation to another.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars for the illustrations
Walking with Prehistoric Beasts, like Walking with Dinosaurs, is a well illustrated written companion to a BBC documentary on fossil animals and their environment. In this case the age of early mammals is the subject of the discourse. As the author himself points out, before the discovery of dinosaurs, the remains of the early megafauna of the ice ages were the great attractions in 19th Century museums and exhibits. These were the dream-team animals that inspired little boys to go into careers hunting fossils throughout the world. The beautiful CGI of the book does more to bring these animals alive than any other collection of images that I've seen, and it makes one appreciate the advances that have been made in this type of characterization.

While I enjoyed the wildlife presented, as with Walking with Dinosaurs, it is not always made clear to the reader that only some things can be known absolutely about these now extinct animals. Much must be extrapolated from what is known of modern descendants and shear guesswork. Not everyone who reads the book will realize that, and I think that more of an effort should have been made to explain why the authorities on the subject believe what they do about the period. For one thing it would have provided a better learning experience and a greater appreciation for the inspired detective work done by paleontologists world wide.

Worth 4 stars for the illustrations alone!

3-0 out of 5 stars Yikes!
While I don't even believe in the extreme time periods discussed in this book, I found the pictures fascinating. This is the first time some of these animals have been visualized. These may be ancestors of modern mammals, however I don't believe they lived millions of years ago.

What you will find is pictures of the most amazing and scary creatures you have yet to see. You would not, I repeat, would not want to meet a Basilosaurus. I mean, if you think Animal Planet is interesting, you really might enjoy this book.

Cryptozoology which means "hidden wildlife" is a feature. There are some animals that are still hidden and are not really extinct.

The Sabre-tooth World was quite wild. There are great pictures and comparisons to today's more tame felines. While today's domestic cats kill prey smaller than themselves, the long sabre teeth were used to kill much larger prey.

A creative and fascinating explanation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!!!
If you have a Land Before Time fan in your home, this is a great book! It is about the beginning, when the mother dies, but it does manage to subtly get around the death idea. I know of kids who do not like the first Land Before Time movie because the mom dies so this book is a great alternative!

5-0 out of 5 stars a pleasant bed time read
My son has every LBT video and has watched them more times then I care to count. This is the only LBT book he has and he loves it. The rhyming is fun and its a fast read for bedtime.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy and fun reading
This book is fun and simple to read. It reads like those familiar Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat books. My children love dinosaurs and enjoy reading this book over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Both- Cat in the Hat and Dinosaurs!
My 4 yr. old son and I are big Cat in The Hat fans. He is also in love with the dinos from The Land Before Time. This rhyming style of storytelling meets Littlefoot in a supersaurus way. It is a recap of the first Land Before Time movie. My son has memorized it and I never get sick of reading it to him. Great Book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dinosaur Bob
I can't say enough good about WIlliam Joyce. He's one of my two or three favorite illustraters. His drawings are so detailed that you can almost see individual leaves in his plants and bushes. Besides, his unbelievable technical ability, he also is extremely inventive. On one page in this book, the dinosaur and his friends aren't shown except in their shadows and like in all his books, the colors seem almost too bright to be real.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wacky Adventure
...Dinosaur Bob is one of those children's books you just read over and over to your kids. It is funny from start to finish, with Bob the Dino and his family the Lazardos. My boys loved it as kids and will pass it down to theirs.

5-0 out of 5 stars 10 stars for this book!
The story's great, the illustrations are wonderful. Adults will enjoy this as much or more than kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars We are decorating our home in Dinosaur Bob
We love this story and read it often. We brought it to our designer, and are working with the colors and style. We call our living room the "dinosaur Bob" room. Bravo!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story of a really big family pet
The Lazardos are not your typical family. So it follows that they require no typical pet. Enter Bob. They find him on safari in Africa and decide that he needs a good home. I love this story of a baseball playing dinosaur and the free-spirited family who take him in. By the writer of George Shrinks. The families are very similar in spirit. Such a great book! ... Book Description

What is a fossil?

Sometimes it's the imprint of an ancient leaf in a rock. Sometimes it's a woolly mammoth, frozen for thousands of years in the icy ground. Sometimes it's the skeleton of a stegosaurus that has turned to stone.

A fossil is anything that has been preserved, one way or another, that tells about life on Earth. But you can make a fossil, too--something to be discovered a million years from now--and this book will tell you how.

4-0 out of 5 stars A review of the record of fossils for children Ages 5 and up
Fossils tell of long ago is a good book for children. Brightly illustrated pictures help them grasp the facts of fossils. It includes a fun experiment, too, along with a clear explanation of how fossils were made. I give this book four stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars Aliki's blatant attempt at political correctness.
While this book is still a decent introduction to fossils for children, I'm giving it two stars because it is a VERY different book from the original (published in 1972, I believe) that I read and loved as a child. I purchased this version thinking it would be the same as the original (except for the different cover and perhaps some updates to the information therein). Well, I was wrong. ALL of the illustrations have changed (NOT for the better, either, in my opinion). There are now children of every hue pictured, and even a black boy in a wheel chair. How nice. This is what all children's books of the future will look like, apparently. (Classic children's books that don't include pictures of kids from various ethnic groups will need to be re-illustrated.) Aliki, why did you mess with a perfectly good original?

If you've read the original edition of this book, DON'T purchase this one, as I think you'll be disappointed. Search for a used copy of the original. ... Read more

It seems that kids are programmed to love dinosaurs. Is the appeal thatthese wild-looking reptiles seem imaginary, like dragons and unicorns, but they are (well, were) actually real? Whatever the source ofthe extinct creature's mysterious magnetism, this pop-up,touch-and-feel, lift-the-flap dino-centric version of Scholastic's "MyFirst Jumbo Book..." series (My First Jumbo Book of Colors, My First Jumbo Book ofShapes, etc.) will only encourage young dinophiles.

The sturdy, colorful, cartoonish book has only five double-page spreadstotal, but four of the spreads illustrate and identify six-to-sevendifferent kinds of dinosaurs. Children can feel the bumpy scales of thebarapasaurus (pronunciation guide included beneath each name), lure theornitholestes out of its ferny hiding place, ease the maiasaura from itsegg, or force the coelophysis to engage in some mildly aerobic exercise. On the last spread, in the shadow of a looming pop-up T-rex, kids arechallenged to identify five dinosaurs from their skeletons and lift theflaps for the answers. Parents and educators seeking a meatierintroduction to dinosaurs might want to look to DK's A Big Book of Dinosaurs: AFirst Book for Young Children, as this interactive novelty bookhas no descriptive text at all. 5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely, quietly charming book about fatherhood
You could hardly do better than to get "The Little Green Goose" for any father, whether adoptive or biological. Adele Sansone's text is a miracle of economy, covering parenthood, adoption, geneaology, and more with a minimum of fuss and text.

The barnyard goose decides that he wants to be a father, but as he has no wife or other partner, he decides to adopt a spooky looking green egg found by the dog at the edge of a field. The goose settles himself on top of the eggs and waits and waits. When the egg finally cracks open, what emerges is some sort of lizard or dinosaur or who knows what--but it definitely is not a goose. Still, Sansone's goose dad utterly ignores the differences between himself and his new son and makes a natural (and skillful) parent. When the "green goose" decides to try to figure out what his real background is, he has little luck and ends up coming home to the goose--who, after all, is the only parent he's ever known.

The illustrations, by Alan Mark, are utterly charming. The "green goose" is splotched and splashed with color, while the goose is drawn sparingly and convincingly. This is, overall, a fun tale with subtle and valuable life lessons.

5-0 out of 5 stars a story of adoption that did not forget the story!
Wonderful book covering so many subjects in a short entertaining time. Father goose longs for a child, and adopts a very strange egg. After the little green goose is born, the baby chicks tease saying thats not really your mommy, you dont look anything alike. The little green goose goes around trying to find out who he looks like and then becomes lonely and returns home, realizing home is where you are loved. Great book for adoptive fathers. Also for those involved in transracial adoption. The story illustrates a fathers love and caring, the idea that families do not need to look alike, and all this is done with a tale that is good for its own sake. The illustrations are superb, my favorite is the final one, this great big green dinosaur-like creature (the little green goose) with the father goose laying on top of his head, one wing stretched out protectively over his child and both fast asleep. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars For young and old dino lovers!
I have a 5 and 7 year old. We all think this book is great! It's colorful and informative and Up-To-Date! One feature I enjoy pointing out to my kids is the little images which compare the dinosaurs size to a human child's size. That way we get an even better idea how big the creatures were.

5-0 out of 5 stars High interest and educational quality alike
Promising high interest and educational quality alike is this dinosaur 'field guide' for all ages, which packs in museum-quality dinosaur illustrations, expertise by two paleontologist authors, and details on dinosaur digs and places to see fossils in the field. Web sites, museums, and bibliographies are also included in this highly visual, appealing guide.

This is a great book, its got the most info on dino discoveries after about '95, plus interesting facts on previously known about dinos. Its also a very interesting and fun book to read, and is very educational. It has a cool fold out poster too, wich makes it even more fun. I strongly reccemend this book to any one of any age who like dinosaurs.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Dinosaur books up to date!
This is an awesome book for dino enthusiast and/or kids who want to be paleontologists. It has information on 87 diffirent dinosaurs and also information on some non-dinosaurs. The illustrations, done by Robert Walters, are amazingly beautiful and colorful! Another great thing about this book is that it has new information about dinosaurs; like birds are now classified as a type of dinosaur and new discoveries like Nqwebasaurus. It's a great book for new dino fans aswell.
