5-0 out of 5 stars Snappy Pop-Ups are the best!
Our 2 year old son received this book as a birthday present from his Nana. We all enjoy reading it and looking at the pop up pictures of the dinosaurs. The bold colors ad cute pictures keep him busy for hours. He even tries to repeat the dino's names! And with a pop up book to go with any occasion I 100% recommend this book to everyone with children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another Fantastic Snappy Book!
This is a great book! Each page has a different dinosaur, rhyming text, the dinosaur's name and a pronunciation key for the names. The pop-ups are first class (as always with Snappy books)! A favorite in our house!

5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful, Fun and Educational
My two year old son and I love reading this book together - the pop-ups are very colorful, imaginative and informative. We have some of the other SNAPPY books as well (colors, numbers, opposites, bugs, farm animals). My husband and I enjoy the books as much as my son! My son loves to point out different colors and really loves the wonderful pictures. It's a great book for the car as well - it keeps my son busy - he always seems to find something different with each turn of the page and giggles in delight .

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids
The best things about this book are the creative and detailed pop ups that mom and dad enjoyed as much as the kids. The text is fun and simple, perfect for young readers. My little boy looks forward to reading it every evening. It is a book that makes reading fun and interesting for beginners. I recommend it for anyone with young children and especially for kids reluctant to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars not the usaual boring pop-up book
This is one of several great pop-up books. The pages are colorful and very imaginative. The whole page comes to life. I'm very picky when it comes to pop-up books. I don't like ones that have just a face or a tail that sticks out, or things you have to pull to make it work. I just open the page and the giggles from my kids says it all. This book is fun for all ages {be mindful of little grabbing hands. } I find myself looking through it just for fun. They have one for bugs, farmland, Christmas, Halloween, opposites, numbers, and colors. I don't have them all but I will get them. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kids love stickers!
I won't lie and tell you this is a literary masterwork. However, sometimes little kids need a simple, but creative diversion and I would really recommend any sticker book that deals with any subject which they have an interest. It is a nice diversion to see them "create" a story based on how they play with the stickers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stickers not really reusable but otherwise excellent
This book is a dinosaur themed book which is one of many published by Grosset & Dunlap. There are 7 2-page spreads, which consist of background for placing the stickers. Each spread has a few sentences to tell a story or guide the sticker placement. The information/text about dinosaurs is very basic and rudimentary. Most pages have one sentence. There is no distinction or discussion of there being three different periods in time (Cretaceous, etc.) and all the dinosaurs are combined and mixed together. One page features flying reptiles and is correct in not identifying them as dinosaurs. Another page has underwater prehistoric creatures and is correct in saying they are not dinosaurs. Kudos for the accuracy there.

The backgrounds are creative and well done. There are backgrounds of swamps, forest, desert, sky, and underwater. Stickers depict flying reptiles, dinosaurs and underwater prehistoric creatures.

The stickers are billed as "reusable". The stickers stick very well the first time around. A bonus "pro" is since they are "reusable" stickers, if they are accidentally stuck onto floors, walls, or furniture they remove easily and effortlessly. The "con" is that (after using 5 different books in this series and having this consistent in every book) I must say that once a sticker is peeled and placed in a different spot, it does not lie flat. The sticker curls at the edges and is a mess. This has frustrated and annoyed both of my children and I don't like activities that are supposed to be fun to end up causing tantrums and frustration--especially when it is caused by "false claims" by the publisher of the stickers being reusable! Also in the sticker removing process, they tend to tear, especially if the shape of the sticker has protruding parts or small pieces sticking out (vs. a simple shape of a planet or a long rocket shape which usually come off in one piece). The tearing occurs when I peel them as well as my young children. This tearing has resulted in tears and disaster-"the tyrannasaurus ripped---AAGHHH!"

There are 75 stickers. If one were to buy 75 single use stickers of a theme without a book, the price would be higher than the price of this book that comes with the 75 stickers. I like the book and the stickers except for them being billed as "reusable" when they really are not. I'll rate it 4 stars since I really like the product but wish the stickers were more reusable than they are. The low price also is appreciated. I see that DK sells a set of 60 glow in the dark stickers for [$]!

I did come up with an idea that once the stickers are shot, to discard them and you would end up with a blank book. You can then present this to your child and have them draw their own dinosaurs, plants, etc. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One Happy Grandma
I was shown this book by a family member just before my grandchildren came to visit from across the country. My grandson is 6 years old and had not yet entered the first grade. All it took was a look at the cover and he was into it.
He studied each of the pages and turned to me with a desperate voice (while holding my face with his hands and making me look into his eyes)"TEACH ME TO READ GRANDMA! I want to know what they are doing"!
Well, I think that says it all. This is a kid that does not sit still for a minute and here he was asking to learn to read!
The concept of photography of real kids, and the fabulous graphic arts, really drew my little guy into the book.I am hoping there are more to come.Books about "Time Soldiers" and grandchildren! tee hee...

5-0 out of 5 stars teacher's choice
As a teacher in the east county of San Diego I have just used this book with my class and it was a huge success. The children and the adults in my class were quite taken with the local connection. They enjoyed realizing that the photos were taken close to home and the story kept their interest. It was fun to read and to listen to. I met the authors and they were very informative and I enjoyed talking with them.
Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars Rex: King of the Dinosaur Adventures
"Rex", the first of the Time Soldier series by Robert Gould is a well written and beautifully photographed kid's adventure story in the time of the dinosaurs.Five boys and a girl travel back into a prehistoric age through a time warp portal in their neighborhood forest."Rex" is written at an appropriate reading level for elementary age children and contains educational facts on dinosaurs and their environment. The younger children can concentrate on the excellent photography if they are not yet up to the reading level, while the older children can learn new vocabulary from reading the text. The fantastic computer generated images of the dinosaurs are very detailed, down to the wrinkles on the hides and gleam in their eyes. The story line emphasizes the friends helping each to survive the difficulties that they encounter.I highly recommend this book for elementary school age children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Adventure and Incredible Graphics
I really love Rex 1 and Rex 2.The books are visually stunning and wonderfully written. These books make kids want to read them and I enjoyed reading them, too.The Books are exiting and good-clean fun.I am keeping a set for my daughter and myself and gave copies as gifts to my friend's son and my nephew. I hope we can look forward to a Rex 3! -Aleta

My mother's testimonial is absolutely true.I am an absolute fossil fan - dedicated to anything dinosaur.I have read my share of good dino and adventure books, and I would rate both Rex and Rex 2 as being among the top best for kids (as well as for everyone else).I am fifteen, with a seven year old cousin, and we both absolutely love the series.Unlike most children's tales, it is not "dumbed down" nor dull in any way.It is creatively exiting, fun, and even a little misterious. The artwork is incredible, using superimposed images of real and artistically drawn creatures. The unusual perspectives and beautiful artwork in Rex 2 alone makes this book worthy of any youngster's library. But, above all, the stories are what give the books their unique charm. The harrowing adventures of the boys in delightful situations such as exploring a Cretaceous forest or having to track down a tyrannosaurus rex in an jungle known as a city have enough activities and goings-on that you get wrapped into the action. In addition, you will not see a T.Rex eating frightened victims or destroying buildings for the fun of it; you will see a prehistoric monarch acting like what it really was ... a magnificant and powerful animal of times long gone. I would undeniably rate these stories as the crem-de-la-crem of children's books. -Inga

5-0 out of 5 stars Rex and Rex 2
My son is five years old and he loves books to begin with. We ended up driving to Mr. Gould's office since we couldn't find the series at any of the stores. My son and I got to meet Mr.Gould and Mr. Epstein. What a WONDERFUL experince for my son. That evening we read the books. The illustrations are brilliant. My son loved every page. Asking me if they were real!!! Thank you Mr. Gould and Mr. Epstein for your SUPER books. We will be waiting for PATCH at your front door! I wish I had books like these when I was a child. ... Six goofy dinosaurs lurk behind the flaps in pop-up whiz David Carter'scolorful Flapdoodle Dinosaurs. Readers peek inside a loaf of bread, anold radio, a china teapot, and more to discover such winsome characters asDiplodocus Blue ("she often whispers 'I love you'") and Triceratops Pink ("shehunts all day long for Green Pickle Pie"). Each dino leaps off the page in anexplosion of color and feats of paper engineering genius. Designed for theyounger reader, this appealing book names real dinosaurs, but fictionalizes themwith nonsense rhymes that describe their personalities and favorite activities.Take Spinosaurus Purple, for example.

4-0 out of 5 stars colorful fun pop-up dinosaur poems
This colorful book features six pop-up dinosaurs accompanied by short nonsense rhymes. Readers lift the flap of each two-page spread to reveal a brightly colored dinosaur and a goofy poem. the final pop-up contains all six dinosaurs and the words "Flapdoodle dinosaurs say Good night, sleep tight, we'll see you again tomorrow night"

Fun introduction to poetry and dinosaurs for the littlest readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books to introduce kids to dinosaur science
Tim Bradley has done an excellent job of integrating fun and science. His artwork is whimsical and scientifically accurate - my favorite is the Velociraptor on the couch!A great way to get your kids to learn something while they are having fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Novel idea!
"The Care and Feeding of Dinosaurs" takes a refreshing and novel approach to explaining some of the basics about dinosaurs to children of all ages. What better way to get kids involved and really THINKING about the subject than to have them imagine that they actually had a dinosaur for a pet.Perhaps the best part about this book is the humility expressed by its author.Too many times we hear learned paleontologists ramble on and on about the Mesozoic in absolutes... "T'rex was thus and so... Triceratops looked like this..." Rarely do we hear a dinosaur writer use the words "probably, perhaps, most likely."This book invites the reader (young and old) to do a little imagining on their own.My only complaint was that there wasn't more to read.Perhaps we have a sequel to look forward to in the near future.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Care and Feeding of a Three Star Book
Hmmmmm, how best to express my sentiments on this delightful little book. The Care of Feeding of Dinosaurs isn't what you might think, not exactly scientifically correct in many aspects.but for one who wants to read an enjoyable, albeit short, book on some current knowledge we have regarding what dinosaurs ate, and simple patterns of behavior, a child might find this book entirely desirable.Personally I would not have bought it if I had previously read it, but it is somewhat humerous and the illustrations, though badly innacurate, are fun too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Enter the Dinoverse!
I began reading the Dinoverse series this summer as part of a children's literature course at college. I didn't think they would hold my attention, being juvenile literature...boy was I wrong! The course ended two months ago, but when I found this book, the fifth in the series, I had to read it! My hat is off to author Scott Ciencin, whose work reminds me of my own childhood fantasies of dinosaurs brought to life. I work in a bookstore, and often recommend these titles to parents, looking for books that their sons might enjoy. These are great books for boys, jam-packed with adventure and imagination. I highly recommend the entire series! Can't wait to read the next book when it comes out in November!

If you are already familliar with Dinoverse, then expect another romp through time with Bertram and some new faces. Just about everyone is familiar with the awe-inspiring dinosaurs of longago: Tyrannosaurus rex, brontosaurus, pterodactyl. But they weren't theonly tough guys in town. In fact, before, during, and after the Age of Dinosaurs(also called the Mesozoic era), creatures beyond our wildest dreams roamed theearth, paddled the seas, and flew through the sky. Howard Zimmerman, author ofDinosaurs! The Biggest BaddestStrangest Fastest, shares some incredible facts about these bizarrereptiles and mammals. Take, for example (before it takes you!), the Diatryma, agiant flightless bird (up to 9 feet tall) with thickly muscled legs, three largeclawed toes on each foot, and a huge, powerful, hooked beak. Or the monstrous,sea-dwelling Kronosaurus, over 45 feet long, its 10-foot-long skull filled withneedle-sharp teeth. Then there was the ferocious Hyaenodont, a mammal that, likemodern hyenas, fed on the bodies of dead animals, as well as hunting and killingits own prey.

Zimmerman divides this oversize volume, lavishly drawn by the world's topillustrators of prehistoric animals, into three main sections: Pterosaurs: TheSky Dragons; Marine Reptiles; and Mega-Mammals and Other Prehistoric Beasts. Each description is fairly succinct, easy to follow, and packed with facts anddetails about the animals' size, eating habits, looks, and when and where itlived. Zimmerman also includes a listing of Web sites for additionalinformation. Utterly fascinating, this book will keep kids--andadults--mesmerized for hours. (Ages 7 and older) --Emilie Coulter ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
We are all familiar with the fact that dinosaurs roamed the Earth millions of years ago. But, they weren't alone. Other creatures, now extinct, lived and roamed the Earth along with them and Howard Zimmerman has devoted his new and terrific book, Beyond The Dinosaurs, to exploring these fantastic prehistoric beasts. He has divided this book into three categories, Sky Dragons (pterosaurs), Sea Monsters (marine reptiles) and Mega-Mammals, and filled each page with a wealth of fun facts and historical information. His text, written in an easy to read, conversational style details when and where each animal lived, its size, how it looked, what it ate, and much more and includes marvelous, action-packed paintings by some of the world's best illustrators of prehistoric animals. Youngsters will be mesmerized as they pore over all the wonderful detail in each picture. From the Quetzalcoatlus, the largest pterosaur with a wingspan of 40 feet, to the Kronosaurus, a 45 foot sea monster, to the Wooly Rhinoceros and Smilodon (Saber-toothed cat), this is a fascinating book that children 9-12 won't be able to put down. Beyond The Dinosaurs includes an instructive introduction, to set the stage, an index, and a list of special web sites kids can visit for even more information about their favorite creatures. This is definitely a book older dinosaur enthusiasts shouldn't miss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sequel to the last years hit!
This art book is almost like a sequel to the last years hit "Dinosaurs! The Biggest,Baddest,Strangest & Fastest!"which I also own. When I saw that one I loved it. Both books are of huge format with excellent art work by some of the world`s top paleoartists. Because the first one was so good,I tried the sequel without doubt of ordering it. And I found it as good as I was hoping for. The first chapter treats pterosaurs, among them the gigantic Quetzalcoatlus, the humorous-looking Batrachognathus and Pteranodon. The second chapter is the funniest and it treats some of my favourite prehistoric animals, like Elasmosaurus with it`s 25-foot neck, the fierce monitor Tylosaurus and the enormous Kronosaurus, the sea king of the mesozoic! The third chapter has beautifull pictures of mammals as the saber-toothed tiger, wooly mammoths,strange-looking rhinoceroses (Brontotherium)and the most frightening bird ever existed, the 10-foot tall Diatryma that looks like a cross between an eagle and a T-rex!

Over all, this one is as good as the first book and a very good complement. I thought there was something missing in the first. And that was the other prehistoric animals. Together, these books are my most famous inspiration source for my story "The Island Forgotten by Time"with all of the famous action motifs of the pictures as well as just beauty. If you own the first, try this. If you don't own them, buy them both! These books are actually children`s books but for a dinosaur fan,it doesn`t matter. For children, buy it for the text. For paleontologists, some of the illustrations are invaluable! So I bought it for the images, not for the text,as I am a seriously interested dinosaur maniac too!

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully illustrated book
"Beyond the Dinosaurs!", by Howard Zimmerman, is an excellent book for children who are fascinated by dinosaurs and other long-extinct creatures. As the title indicates, this book focuses on the other animals that inhabited the world of the dinosaurs. The book is divided into three sections. The first is devoted to pterosaurs (flying reptiles), the second to marine reptiles, and the third to a variety of other creatures (mammals, flightless birds, and mammal-like reptiles).

The large, full-color illustrations include contributions by a variety of different artists. Many of the paintings are exciting action shots showing these creatures hunting, flying, and engaging in other activities.

Creatures depicted include the Quetzalcoatlus (a pterosaur whose wingspan could reach 40 feet), the large-eyed opthalmosaurus (an aquatic lizard), the dinornis (an ostrich-like giant bird), the procoptodon (a giant kangaroo), the woolly rhinoceros, and other marvelous creatures. This is a book that is both fun and educational.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!
This book is great for the early/learning readers. The story is great and Ed is cute and creative. At the end of the book there are activities and questions that pertain to the story. A book that you'll never mind reading again. I'm currently searcing for more in the series! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME Googly Board Book & 11 puppet set! 10 STARS!!
My daughter absolutely LOVES this set. She just got it for her 3rd birthday and she just loves it. It has 10 dinosaur finger puppets that co-incide with the dinos in the book numbered 10 through 1 (Dino #8 is the same one as the one in the book, etc.) and it also has a Scientist finger puppet with a 0 on it. This is a board book that is smaller than the regular book (which is oversized imo) and perfect for carrying around.

She loves the cantor of the sing songy words and just loves to jiggle the book to make the eyes all wiggly. Even if your toddler dosn't love dinos, she or he will just love this book. gladly would I give it more stars, if I had stars to give! ... Read more
