5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME Googly Board Book & 11 puppet set! 10 STARS!!
My daughter absolutely LOVES this set. She just got it for her 3rd birthday and she just loves it. It has 10 dinosaur finger puppets that co-incide with the dinos in the book numbered 10 through 1 (Dino #8 is the same one as the one in the book, etc.) and it also has a Scientist finger puppet with a 0 on it. This is a board book that is smaller than the regular book (which is oversized imo) and perfect for carrying around.

She loves the cantor of the sing songy words and just loves to jiggle the book to make the eyes all wiggly. Even if your toddler dosn't love dinos, she or he will just love this book. gladly would I give it more stars, if I had stars to give! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious tale of how a town reacts when a dinosaur visits.
This highly entertaining tale describes how a town's inhabitants react when Rex the dinosaur arrives. Everyone has a unique way of reacting to the great big dinosaur with huge teeth. But the author's description of HOW the town reacts is what makes this story a true delight. Children will be delighted with the detailed and action-packed illustrations. Adults, however, may be surprised to find the pun-filled story line is as entertaining for them as for the intended 4 to 8-year-old reading audience. A true masterpiece of plays on language, parents will find themselves wanting to read this story again and again to their children -- and themselves! ... Read more

Book Description

Eric Rohmann's Caldecott Honor-winning debut is now available as a

Dragonfly paperback. It is at once a wordless time-travel adventure and

a meditation on the scientific theory that dinosaurs were the evolutionary

ancestors of birds. The New York Times Book Review called Time

Flies "a work of informed imagination and masterly storytelling

unobtrusively underpinned by good science...an entirely absorbing narrative

made all the more rich by its wordlessness." Kirkus Reviews hailed it as

"a splendid debut."

5-0 out of 5 stars A LANDMARK DEBUT IN CHILDREN'S LITERATURE
Eric Rohmann has made numrous contributions to the annals of children's literature since his estimable debut "Time Flies." I think often of and return to "The Cinder-Eyed Cat" for pure enjoyment.

However, "Time Flies" was the beginning - when our eyes were first arrested by the boldness of his vision as he took readers on an imaginary journey to prehistoric times.

As exciting today as it was when first published "Time flies" would be a most welcome gift for any child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Imaginations will flow!
I often use this beautifully illustrated book in my classroom of 3-5 year olds. As the children view the pictures they begin talking about what they see happening without any facillitation from me. This is an excellent book to use in the classroom to promote language! Everytime we read it our plot changes a little bit! This book should be in every classroom library!

4-0 out of 5 stars Images of dinosaurs-Time Flies
In this magical wordless picture book, Rohmann does a great job of setting the scene in a history museum. When a bird flies through the area with the dinosaur skeletons, The area suddenly comes to life. The walls become trees and beautiful landscapes. The bird is swallowed by one of the now living dinosaurs and as he escapes Rohmann takes us back to reality of the dinosaur skeletons and fossils. The pictures are amazing! I can see why he won the Caldecott award. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Danny +Dino
In the second of the Danny and the dinosaur books, Danny goes back to the museum to invite the dinosaur to his birthday party. The dinosaur is glad to accept, and, as it turns out, today is his birthday too!

The story flows better than Danny and the dinosaur, and the few conversations are more believable. Danny and the dinosaur have changed slightly, and the pictures don't have quite the same style as in the first book. The pictures are cute, even if the solid colors they are filled in with make them look kind of harsh.

The reasons I give this book four stars are the words are still a bit awkward, the plot is rather strained (pointless escapades added to lengthen the plot and nothing really happens), and finally because the book in general lacks a charm that other books contain in abundance.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not one of Hoff's best
Sorry, this book reeks to me of late-career "cashing in" on the D&tD legend. For me, Hoff's original "Danny and the Dinosaur" is a classic work, a brilliantly simple book, with a lovely fantasy story and exquisitely simple, highly memorable illustrations.

Unfortunately "Happy Birthday" was drawn by Hoff in his eighties, and the illustrations barely resemble the characters I know and love. Sad to say, it looks like the poor guy can barely control the pen. I can't deny that Hoff (and now, his estate) deserves every penny he could squeeze from his beloved characters, but the characters (and the readers) do deserve better than this weak sequel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaurs
The print type in this book is larger enough for a beginner reader to point to an not lose there place. My son enjoys reading this story as much as I did when I was his age. ... Read more

"The Ballad of Dinosaur Bob," reproduced in full at the end of the book, begins like this (sing to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne"): "He's Bob, the best old Bob, / the biggest Bob you've ever seen. / He's Mesozoic and heroic, and he's really green." All this is true of Bob, which fans of William Joyce'sDinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo know well. In this very short, extremely simple board book, Dinosaur Bob is playing baseball with his friends the Lazardos, when a local team spots him at work and asks him to join them for the first game of the season. He saves the game, everyone's happy, and they sing "The Ballad of Dinosaur Bob." Ta-da! While the story is not geared toward the usual board-book crowd (babies and preschoolers), aficionados of all things Dinosaur Bob will be pleased with this small, sturdy edition. 5-0 out of 5 stars Offbeat, whacky and unique
My 20-month old son loves this book and so do my wife and I! The pictures are evocative of an old-world, small-town America that probably no longer exists and may never have, and the family is a suitably wacky bunch that's a nice twist from the usual childrens' book characters. One question, though, that's never explained by the book: How does Bob fit into the dugout? Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book made me laugh out loud!
I bought this book for my 2-year-old daughter because the illustrations are beautiful and I want her to grow to love baseball. While the story may be a little beyond her right now, she loves the pictures, and she loves it when I sing "The Ballad of Dinosaur Bob" to her...although I can never get through the entire song without laughing! My husband loves the details that are evident in the illustrations, and that nobody thinks it's odd for a dinosaur to play baseball.

Even after my daughter outgrows the book, we plan to keep it in our library!

5-0 out of 5 stars A charming story for kids who love dinosaurs and baseball...
My daughter loves dinosaurs and adores playing t-ball. So this book was a natural choice when I got it for her last year. Although it's a board book, and really intended for smaller kids, the simple plot was easy for her to follow as she learned to read, and the illustrations are well done and lovely. All in all a good buy, especially for kids who combine a love of dinos with a love of sports. ... Read more
