3-0 out of 5 stars hmmmm...
This book is fine, a pretty hum-drum outfit like any other 'teach yourself' book. It's pretty good. However, I'm writing this review to let people know that the 'handwriting units' are utterly useless, unless you actually wanted to learn an incomplete alphabet in a childish scrawl. Also, the printed nasta'liq is very tiny, spidery and hard to read. If you have no previous knowledge of Arabic or a derived script, I cannot imagine how you will manage.
I recommend 'Urdu Grammar' by Ruth Laila Schmidt. ... Read more

Establishing and understanding boundaries are crucial to the success of a marriage, according to authors Cloud and Townsend, who cowrote the award-winning and biblically-based book Boundaries. For example, boundaries help us understand where one person ends and the other begins, the authors claim: "Once we know the boundaries, we know who should be owning the problem we are wrestling with," they write. "This issue of ownership is vital to any relationship, especially marriage." But more significantly, couples need to claim and take responsibility for the "treasures that lie within their individual borders," such as: "feelings, attitudes, behaviors, choices, limits, desires, thoughts, values, talents, and love." Based on the book that elevated them to national prominence, Cloud and Townsend caution readers not to use this self-help manifesto as a means to change one's spouse. Rather, this is a book about taking responsibility for oneself in all aspects of life, but especially within the boundaries of marital commitment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Useful Book, But You May Still Need a Pro
A Very Useful Book, But You May Still Need a Pro
Reviewer: siddheartha from Warren, MI USA
This is a very good book about boundaries.
Yes, it is steeped in Christianity. If you are a Christian, that is a very big plus and will make this book even more helpful. However, if you are not, you can still get great value from this book.
This book will teach, giving examples, about building appropriate boundaries in your marriage. If you are not married you can still prepare. Starting with good, strong boundaries will help you pick a better mate (for you), and make for a stronger marriage, too.
If you are in a troubled marriage, it may be difficult to use this book. If the good will in the marriage has headed south, get a marriage counselor who is familiar with the book and willing to help you both build better boundaries.
Those with good boundaries are the happiest people.
Good luck! Enjoy.
Oh, why not 5 stars? It is a well-written book. The examples are mostly useful. And as much as I like the reliance on Christian values, the book leans on them too much.
It is a very subjective thing. So I can understand most people give 5 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard Read
The authors of this book need to get out of the physco-babble and into an english class. While the concepts of the book are sound (and helpful), it is often difficult to get past their poor english to the points they are attempting to make. Be prepared to wade through the unnecessary words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent..
I've been married for over 11 years and I found this book to be a great find. Both Cloud and Townsend have done a great job giving great advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boundaries in Marriage
If you are contemplating marriage, married for a few years, or thinking of re-marrying, this book is for you.As long as you have the basic foundation, Love, this can be your guide to "happily ever after." Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend do an excellent job of "talking" to you through this book. And their use of couples' examples lets you sit back and do an inventory of yourself: "Whoa, do I do that?" We have 4 children and I'm getting Boundaries With Kids next!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't get married without reading it.
I believe this book is an excellent gift to give as an engagement present or shower gift, but it needn't stop there.I have been married for over 35 years and there are practicals in the book which I never learned to use or stand up to.It is never too late to learn and knowledge based on Biblical principals is hard to deny.I wish I had the book thirty-six years ago. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining
I learned a lot of words on my way to work and was very entertained as well. Some words are ones that you'll never use or find anywhere, but most were helpful to know. My only problem is that there isn't an easy way for you to understand how each word is spelled while listening to the tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations
Highly recommended for anyone wishing to expand their vocabulary and be entertained at the same time. Excellent investment!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the time and money
I seriously disagree with the other customer commment. If that person took umbrage to the comments and banter in the "Genius" series then he or she probably finds most of the primetime comedy shows on these days totally unacceptable. The so called juvenille approach is obviously an intentional format used to help the reader/listener remember. I found it quite effective and highly recommend the series. I found the format well thought out and a pleasure to listen to. It worked for me as did the two previous series.

3-0 out of 5 stars A quixotic cassette set
The Word Smart series is convenient for those who want to distend vocabulary skills while commuting to and from work. It's ambitious "genius" title is a bit deceiving, however. The words are not really that advanced. The script is corny as with other tapes in the series. But it kept me entertained enough to listen to the tapes and perhaps work in a word here and there into my mainstream vocabulary set.I recommend this to those who want to improve their vocabulary and are pressed for time. But don't be surprised by the juvenile approach of the two narrators. Some of the wisecracks they make are offensive. There are several examples of sexual innuendoes. Also, there are some anti-Greek fraternity statements in the Word Smart series that I took offense to, having been in a fraternity in college. It seems like there wasn't a good editing job and that the scriptwriter pushes his negative views of certain societal aspects, like fraternities and relationships between men and women, and exerts them on the listeners.I'll give it three stars instead of one simply because I probably was able to learn from it despite serious deficiencies in the presentation of this set. ... I am an amatuer athlete and constantly try to update my skills. I have read a number of Sports Psyc. Books and feel this book is a little weak. To much reliance on the same old stuff. Good stories, somewhat inspirational. The best book I've read to date is an Amazon recommendation titled, The Mental Edge. Excellent application of techniques that are the cutting edge.

Me gustaria saber si existe una edición en español del libro de Terry Orlick. Desde ahora muchas gracias

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical-user-friendly psychology of performance manual.
Terry Orlick manages to weave anecdotal examples of how the mind can be the difference between performance and "peak performance". This book is packed with practical exercises, check lists and "how-to's" to learn and apply the mechanics/techniques of sports psychology. Nifty quotes at the beginning of each chapter. WARNING: It won't turn miracles. It will not give you talent you never had or replace hard work.

If you've ever found yourself belaboring a performance error, regularly using negative self-talk or "choking" in those key situations... then this book is for you.

It does require a belief... the belief that mental training will work. "Belief is the mother of reality." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have kids, you need this tape!
As a Love and Logic instructor, a parent and school counselor, I am familiar with many of the L&L tapes and concepts. Because of this, it is unusual to have an "ah-hah" moment such as the one I had listening to "Homework Battles." As parents and educators, our dream is to find a way for our kids to do homework for their own benefit, and hopefully take ownership for grades, missing or late assignments, and to enjoy the benefits and fun of school. In an enjoyable and nonjudgemental format, the authors point out how parents can do the exact wrong things for the right reasons, making homework and grades into an adolescent power struggle or a drudgery by forcing our value systems and expectations down our child's throat at the exact time they are rejecting our values out of hand. The authors also point out how we, as parents, do not receive report cards in regards to our parenting skills, so we take ownership of our child's performance at school as a close surrogate. Bad idea, and fundementally counter-productive.

This tape helps parents focus on a child's strengths, thereby building self-esteem and a good self-concept, through placing ownership of the grades squarely on their shoulders. All the pizzaz is placed on the positives while only gently touching upon the student's weaknesses. The authors compare this with having your spouse review your output during your day when all you want is to come home to a safe, supportive house. Even with the spouses best intentions, how long would you stay married to someone who only concentrated upon your weaknesses?

Get the has changed how I work with parents, students, and my own children! It works, and it makes the whole process much more fun for the parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Winning the Homework Battle
This tape was my first introduction to the Love & Logic program and now I'm hooked on the idea! The ideas presented in the tape are just what I needed to give me the freedom from my teenager's homework and turning the responsibility back to him! It all makes so much sense! Most parent's probably need to learn from these tapes that our responsibility to our children is to let them learn to take responsibility for their actions!! Excellent tape and they're fun to listen to! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ABC ALWAYS BE CLOSING!
I've been in Real Estate sales for just over a year. This is my first "sales" job so I was looking for something to help me with my closing skills. After reading the first 10 chapters of this book, I picked up several techniques and ideas from Tom's strategies that helped me. They helped me so much in fact, that I got two listings in one week! The commission on those two listings totaled $20,610! If I could recommend any sales book for a beginning sales person, or an experienced sales person that just needs some new ideas, this would be it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for anyone in sales!
I found this book to be very helpful. My close ratio has increased by 150%! But most importantly, now that I have this knowledge I can finally afford a pool table for my basement and daily veterinarian appointments for my cat!

I've been involved in sales for over fifteen years and I have yet to see another speaker/author come this close to perfecting and teaching the sales process. There are many other fine teachers, but Tom Hopkins seems to be the easiest to understand and the easiest to follow - even for the newest of my salespeople. And since he applies his disciplines to all industries, this may be the only sales guide you need - what a way to clean up that library! Book Description

As the cofounder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Microsoft, the world's leading provider of software for personal computers, Bill Gates played a prominent role in launching the Information Age. Now this modern visionary reveals how expanding technology is propelling the business world into an exciting new economic every manager can - and must - stay ahead of the curve...and how integrated information systems can help every organization achieve....BUSINESS @ THE SPEED OF THOUGHT.

Changes are your company has a sizable investment in technology - and is realizing only 20 percent of its potential benefit. As Gates explains, you're probably viewing hardware and software as a way to solve specific problems. But like a living organism, an organization functions best if it can rely on a nervous system that will instantaneously deliver information to the parts that need it. In clear, nontechnical language, BUSINESS @ THE SPEED OF THOUGHT shows you how a digital nervous system can unite all the systems and processes under one common infrastructure, releasing rivers of information and allowing your company to make a quantum leaps in efficiency, growth and profits.

With eye-opening, detailed tours, into Microsoft and other major corporations, Gates unveils the way digital nervous systems - from the simplest to the most sophisticated - are revolutionizing the very nature of business. You'll learn how integrated technology can:
    * instantly access scattered information to analyze pattrens and trends
    * decrease cycle time and get new products out before the competition
    * deliver up-to-the-minute sales and inventory statistics on every one of your products, anywhere in the world
    * help customers solve their own problems and, using intelligent software, automatically feed complaints to designers and line workers
    .....and much more.

"I have the simple but strong belief," Gates writes. "How you gather, manage, and use information will determine whether you win or lose." BUSINESS @ THE SPEED OF THOUGHT gives you the information you need to win. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Lesson to be Learned
Taken in it's entirety, this (March) 1999 release by the author of "The Road Ahead" has been a multi-media event. The print edition has been available in hard-cover or paperback. The audio cassette format has been marketed in both abridged and unabridged versions, and there's also been an audio compact disc available. The content poured into the book's web-site has been extensive, and has included an insightful 45-minute video "chat" by Mr. Gates recorded on March 31, 1999. There is little about the publication that hasn't been covered in over 100 reviews on either, Barnes&, or other web-sites. Traditional media coverage has been extremely broad based, and the book was ranked in the top ten on just about every final 1999 business bestsellers list, including the New York Time's and USA Today's.

Like it or not, there's no denying that this book has reached out deep into the critical masses. But, (in less than a year), has the response to this work perhaps surpassed the actual content in importance?

Take for example Scott Rosenberg's hard-hitting perspective in which Mr. Gates is critiqued as an author with obviously passionate ideas on business management, but also as one who is either unwilling or unable to break out of a dull corporate-speak writing tone. Mr. Rosenberg cites "e"source proponents of the idea "that the Internet is rapidly transforming not just the speed but the tenor and content of business communications." He furthers the suggestions that the corporate lingua-franca is soon to be made a remnant of our popular culture, and could very well be replaced with a much more original form of thought as one of the results of the "Web lifestyle" Mr. Gates is promoting. Customer comments on the review pages of e-bookstore sites are given as one example, and the postings on corporate stock message boards (such as those found within Yahoo) would be another. Mr. Rosenberg is most profound when he considers whether "the very voice Bill Gates uses in Business @ The Speed of Thought is being rendered obsolete by the technology he espouses." It's too bad, but we probably won't be seeing responses by Mr. Gates to these kind of issues posted in the questions section of the book's website.

My conclusion here is to take care to consume the entire event, and don't be skimpy. Digest both the content of and the response to Business @ The Speed of Thought or whatever other media-intense works you study . Savor the combination and all of its flavors. Then draw your own conclusions and fling them into cyberspace, because one can't yearn to be a knowledge participant unless one can learn like a knowledge participant.

Records managers like myself may take particular interest in the discussion of the issue of creating a paper-less office. Don't be mislead by the title of Chapter 3 -- the author's view is realistic and the insight into Microsoft operations presented here is interesting. Additionally, the discussions in Section IV on the concept of bringing insight to business operations should be specifically noted by professionals in the records and information management industry. In particular, the thoughts in Chapter 18 on utilizing an organization's information technology department are very relative. This information is excellent support for the argument that technology has given records managers improved tools to do their jobs, while actively changing the perception of their profession.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple, but Sweet!

Business at the Speed of Thought is far more than a position paper on his business strategies, nor is it a public relations effort to soften the critics or judiciary overseers. The book takes a higher conceptual approach, focusing on the imperative role of information and knowledge management will play in running today's organizations. Gates speaks as a consultant, using the successes and failures of real companies, in a case-study approach, to support his philosophies and strategies. It is more basic than revolutionary, but the vision is expressed with great clarity and given depth and breadth through pragmatic, working examples.

CEO's, other organizational leaders, and managers at all levels can potentially benefit from the ideas illustrated. As a small business owner, I found at least half of the content relevant to improving the efficiency of my business operations. Further, those who believe that technology will continue to play an increasingly significant role in the marketplace, should grab a cup of coffee, a pen, and actively read this book.

The book is organized into four distinct sections: information flow, commerce, knowledge management, and business operations. The author's basic premise is that the success or failure of an organization will depend on how well they gather, manage, and use information. Gathering information is the first step in this direction. Gates observes the importance of gathering "business facts", which encompass internal as well as external forces. These business facts concern customers, vendors, distributors, competitors, and internal systems and procedures.

While Gates coherent 12-step program to the implementation of a "Digital Nervous System" is a useful guide to better integrate IT with existing business resources, it unfortunately gave little attention to much deserved social and psychological issues. Gates refuses to admit any problems with technology. This technological utopianism results in an incomplete analysis and does not discriminate at all. As a result, the potential pitfalls are not identified, which could lead to oversight. Functionally, it may lead to a blind, non-discriminatory adoption to digital processes. This absolute change to may produce the inefficiency it is meant to eliminate.

Under this approach, the problems fade into the background because the technology is so perfect. For example, Gates insists that communication flow through the organization over e-mail so that you can act on news with reflex like speed. It is difficult to take a 'key step' like this seriously. Is the ability to act with 'reflex-like speed' really a function of the communication medium, or is it dependent on such factors as experience, intelligence, etc.? Is there no downside to e-mail? What of the lack of truly human communication, that is, fact-to-face, if e-mail is used for all communication? Is it surprising that chief executives fly around the world almost continuously to talk face-to-face? Do they use e-mail, or do they prefer to see the whites of the potential partner's eyes?

Despite these criticisms, I enjoyed this book from cover to cover, and have used its content to increase the productivity of the technological resources owned by my business. Business @ the Speed of Thought illustrates its concepts with detailed case studies of top-notch companies as well as Microsoft in a variety of industries, making the "Digital Nervous System" relevant to a broad and diverse audience. He uses accurate yet easy to understand language, abandoning technical jargon. This, combined with an introduction which provides a clear layout of the books objectives, produces a coherent and pragmatic resource for all people, business persons and non-business persons.

The analysis within the case studies gives examples of how IT can improve, or did improve, failed processes. These examples of already successfully re-engineered information networks, provides concrete methods of how to manage inventory, sales, customer relationships, etc. Because Gates draws from a diverse field of companies, the advice of Gates is useful for all business people of all types of organizations, from service to merchandising, and profit to non-profit.

In addition, the concept of a "Digital Nervous System" can be applied to the personal lives of people who are adapting what he calls a Web Lifestyle. I concur with Gate's conviction that the success of businesses will be a function of how you gather, manage, and use information. Subsequently, Business @ the Speed of Thought goes a long way to increasing vital IT knowledge and skills; and these life-long skills are as important for personal, academic, and professional achievement as traditional academic knowledge and skills such as Math and Science.

While Gates breaks no new ground, he provides specific examples that illustrate the necessary steps to help businesses capitalize on their IT investment, and authentic examples of its realized benefits. I recommend this book to anybody who feels they are unclear on how to integrate IT with current business operations, as well as to individuals who desire to learn more about how to utilize technology to improve their personal tasks. I do not believe Business @ the Speed of Thought is just a finely tuned marketing campaign, but it may be hard for those who do not favor Microsoft to listen to Gates for the entire length of the book. In this case I recommend people read selected chapters that are in line with their individual or business IT objectives. As Gates has shown time and time again, him, Microsoft, and perhaps even this book you may ignore at your own peril.

5-0 out of 5 stars The bible of High technology management
Great book by great man. I would say the way Gates presented his thoughts by real-life examples is extra ordinary. I think great men like him should always write books like this.

2-0 out of 5 stars telling...
Gates has missed the cluetrain. Microsoft is still engaging in the us against them corporate mentality, and this book reveals why. He's so focussed on the boardroom mentality that he seems to have no clue what his CUSTOMERS want. It's all about how the internet can serve the company, rather than how the company can fill the needs of the community.

4-0 out of 5 stars Business according to Chairman Bill
Business @ the Speed of Thought provides a great overview of how companies need to adjust their internal business systems to survive, adapt and embrace new technologies. The book is written in a non-technical way which makes it ideal for non IT managers. I recommend it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Geared more toward adults
I bought this book to teach to high level middle and high school students of English in Korea. The topics are really focused more toward adult learners of English, and some of the themes are somewhat outdated (i.e. a speaker going to a Tina Turner concert). Also, for teaching students in another country (such as Korea) some of these references are totally lost. I see the potential in the book, but it won't work for my students.

Also, notice that the book and cassette are sold separately and are pricey when combined.

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY, a great resource of ESL teachers out there!
This book and audiotape has been one of the most useful resources I've encountered thus far. The activities are very realistic in that they are the kinds of events and situations that ESL learners will encounter in the real world. I especially like the audiotape because the authors chose to use speakers that are very "normal" unlike other audiotapes where the speakers have a robotic tone to their voices. And, the speakers are involved in natural conversations. I also like that the authors chose to use speakers with other accents which again, are real-life people that ESL learners will encounter. As an adult ESL teacher I highly recommend this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The focus of this book is right where it should be!
This book does indeed have a narrow focus, but the subject of that focus--interpersonal communication--has far reaching implications in any type of human relationship. As was correctly stated by a previous reviewer, relationships often suffer from a variety of different problems, ranging from differences in personal habits, to differences in values, to differences in religious views, but that is more or less a given in any relationship, especially one in which people share a domicile. However, it is how those relationship partners choose to "deal" with their inevitable differences "communicatively" that will determine the ultimate success or failure of their relationship. Do they choose to disagree or argue endlessly? Do they insult each other, or call each other names? Do they try to talk over each other,or become violent? Or do they approach each other in cooperative manner, open to each other's different ideas and viewpoints, with a willingness to learn from each other?

What Tannen does in this book is show how some of the common communication differences between men and women in relationships have their basis in fundamental differences in the way men and women perceive each other, and relationships in general. And furthermore, that these fundamental differences, often hidden below the surface, can have profound, and often negative, effects on all kinds of relationships throughout a person's life, unless they are brought into the light of day. In effect, what Tannen is trying to do is to get people to be more aware of how they "habitually" communicate, the possible reasons why they communicate in those ways, and how the things they say and do may affect others. In effect, her goal is to empower people to begin--perhaps for the first time in their lives--to really "choose" how they communicate in relationships--rather than being a slave to destructive habits relied on since childhood. I strongly recommend this book for both men and women in ongoing close relationships. Once you have read it, you will never see communication in your relationships in quite the same way.

4-0 out of 5 stars How to listen
This is my favorite of Tannen's books. It makes some simple but important points about why people have trouble communicating. They talk differently.
My favorite comment was about people having different tolerances for pauses after the other person stops talking. For some people it is 10 seconds. For others it was nano-seconds. I wanted to encourage a quiet friend to talk. I found that by counting silently to ten after I finished talking before starting again, made him realize there was a gap to be filled there. An easy trick but I learned a lot from him and Tannen.
This is the book to give to friends and relatives, rather than her others that beat the differences between men and women into the ground. Simple but with a sweet and useful message.

2-0 out of 5 stars A blueberry muffin with all the blueberrys and no muffin
The basic information in this book is invaluable, but the Author's style resembles that of high school student. The book is written in a classic outline style (I'm going to talk about this now), it's impersonal and has cold examples. Dr. Tannen doesn't seem to give much if any of her own realizations, instead she consistantly refers to other experts. I constantly felt as though I was reading a report written for a social psychology class.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tannen proving her point my missing the point
Tannen believes that men comunicate only in a report fassion. 'Only the facts, mame.' Women normally converse in a raport fassion, talking to build relationships. Tannen (a woman) doesn't understand that men build raport by talking the facts. How to overhaul an engine, sports stats, politics, etc. The condenced book form of this book would be a best seller and would go like this, "Men and women misunderstand each other all the time. It is worth the work and time to admit this and ask for clarification."

4-0 out of 5 stars You think we learn to talk at 1-year-old age? Think again!
Deborah Tannen sure takes care of emphasizing her Ph.D degree in linguistics on the cover of every book she writes. And she has every reason to do that, since "That's Not What I Meant" is a book very influential and full of revelations about... talking.

Through many (very many) examples of everyday talk, Tannen... oops, sorry, Dr. Tannen ;-) explains how something very small we said can turn a whole conversation upside down, bringing the opposite result of what we expected. Be it between friends, lovers, or even diplomatic ambassadors, she shows how the way we talk - anything from the tone we say a word to a single finger's gesture - can change completely the meaning of our talk, and gives advice and suggestions on how to talk better and have more successful communication with everyone around us.

What I didn't particularly like about this book, is that Tannen is providing far more extensive examples of talk than she is providing explanations and solutions. She does explain things, and at the end, I did understand a lot of things I never really noticed about talking, but I certainly became a bit overwhelmed by the vast number of examples, and many times I couldn't focus on the main point.

However, this still is a pleasant book, that is easily and casually read at any time of the day. Given its low price and the practicality of its conclusions, I'd recommend it to anyone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but a little annoying
It teaches you over 200 new words that you can listen and learn. The dialog in the tape can be very annoying. I wish that the tape contains more word and less useless dialog. If you take out all the annoying dialogs in the tape, it will make 5-stars tape :)

If you want to learn as much new words as you can in a short period of time, try Verbal Advantage (ISBN 1559276193).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent series - The Best!
I have several vocabulary series tapes and Princeton Review is by far the best. I have retained 99% of all the words reviewed and each of the three different series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well produced.
I have a limited vocabulary and wanted to improve it for the purpose of improving my chances of getting a job as a firefighter. I believe that if I listen and practice using the words that the tapes present, I will be a better candidate. In the lines of work I have previously been accustomed too, I have not heard many of the words used. I only can speculate that if I want to improve my communication skills get my desire accross to my interviewers, I will have to increase my vocabulary. I feel that Word Smart can help me with this..... Oh what's the word? Endever? Well, I still have some work to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars God answers man's most troubling questions.
Conversations With God, Book One is the personal expose of the author, Neale Donald Walsch, who after having suffered disappointment upon disappointment in all areas of his life writes an angry letter to God composed of questions, and to his surprise receives an answer. In the course of the conversation Neale poses probing questions dealing with the issues of money, personal relationships, religion, guilt, fear - life as we know it. Some, if not all of the questions asked have troubled each one of us at one point or another. The answers are simple, eye-opening, and replete with humor and honesty. Most importantly the answers are not just relevant to the author, but to every member of the human race. Following the guidelines given in this book can cause a global shift, creating a world devoid of fear, and resplendent in peace, love, and sheer joy - the world and type of existence that God has intended for us all along. Reading Conversations With God, Book One is an, inspiring, moving, life changing experience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware of this misleading book, warned from my friends email
Beware of "Conversations with God" books

    Conversations with God

Dr. James Dobson talked about this book twice this
week. It is devastating and parents and Christian
schools need to be aware of this. Do pass it on to
    your pastor/church/e-mail addressees. Parents Beware
very disturbing information. Please read. Parents,
Grand parents, Aunts, Uncles, Please pay special
attention not only to the what your kids watch on TV
and in movie theaters and the music they listen to
but we must also be alert regarding the books they
read... Two particular books, Conversations with God
and Conversations with God for Teens, written by
Neil D Walsh. sound harmless enough by their titles

These books have been on the New York Times best
sellers list for a number of weeks; these
publications makes truth of the statement "Don't
judge a book by its cover/title". The author
purports to answer various questions from kids using
    the "voice of God"

However, the "answers" that he gives are not
biblically-based and go against the very infallible
    word of God.

For instance (and I paraphrase), when a girl asks
the question "why am I a lesbian?" His answer is
that she was born that way because of genetics (just
as you were born right-handed, with blue eyes,
etc.). Then, he tells her to go out and "celebrate"
her differences. Another girls poses the question "I
am living with my boyfriend. My parents say that I
should marry him because I am living in sin. Should
I marry him?" His reply is "Who are you sinning
against? Not me, because you have done nothing

Another question asks about God's forgiveness of
sin. His reply - I do not forgive anyone because
there is nothing to forgive. There is no such thing
as right or wrong and that is what I have been
trying to tell everyone; do not judge people. People
have chosen to judge one another and this is wrong
because the rule is "judge not lest ye be judged".

And the list goes on. Not only are these books the
false doctrine of devils, but in some instances even
quote (in error) the Word of God. . These books (and
others like it) are being sold to school children
(The Scholastic Book Club) and we need to be aware
of what is being fed to our children. Our Children.

Our children are under attack. So I pray that you be
sober and vigilant about teaching your kids the Word
of God and guarding their exposure to worldly
mediums, because our adversary, the devil, roams
about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour
(1 Peter 5:8). And how many of us know that lions
usually hunt for the slowest, and weakest and

Pass this on to every believer you know. God BLESS!

1-0 out of 5 stars PLEASE, DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS "god"!
Don't waste you hard earned money! This book is utter nonsense written to swindle and mislead the weak-minded.

The "god" of this book is simply THE RHETORIC OF EASTERN MYSTICISM, which is ironic since that particular 'god' is an impersonal force that could not communicate with anyone. The whole concept of this book is as idiotic as saying you could have a conversation with electricity.

The oxymoron of 'ABSOLUTE RELATIVISM' is strongly preached throughout the book. There is no separation of right and wrong or good and evil. THE AUTHOR EXPECTS US TO PARK OUR BRAINS IN NEUTRAL and accept that the most wicked mass murders, serial rapists, and hate breathing racists are only 'bad' because we 'think' they are bad, not because they really are evil. This 'god' would have us believe that there is no difference between a Mother Teresa and an Adolph Hitler.

In an ever increasing age of moral relativism, which is a large reason for much of the current financial market woes, HELLO, it never ceases to amaze me the depths to which publishing companies will stoop to print any trash that can make a buck for them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gods will not mine
    I felt like this book was written for me. It was all i needed to know at the time. I realized that following Gods will was not done without courage and belief. I fell almost reborn it sounds remarkable but it is true. I came up with an excerise to help me remember Gods will and i remind myself everyday. Your in a room tied to a chair and a person comes in with a gun and holds it to your head and ask you one question,which you can only answer yes or no. Do you believe in God? Something to think about. Passages from the book that relates to this;
"Mine is always your highest thought, your clearest word, your grandest feeling. Anything less is from another source"God Bless!

5-0 out of 5 stars God has the ultimate of timing
Wow! This book happened along at an incredible time. The contents in this book pertained to everything I needed to know from God. Now, if I can just practice some of these techniques, I know I can fullfill more than I ever thought imaginable. Somehow deep in my soul, I knew what this book was all about, and the book confirms this as well. It's too much to try to express in words of how wonderful and powerful this book is to me. Never again will I be at the mercy of ridicule for my own beliefs as this book actually gives the tools to difuse it all. Pure common sense really, but I need to train myself (and will with this book at hand) and there is no disputing any of it. Can't be done. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The best book/cassette course out there for Afrikaans
It's not easy finding in-print textbooks for learning Afrikaans, especially in the United States, and the fact that this course has audio cassettes is by itself a major advantage compared to the few other offerings. Although I already speak German and Dutch (and am interested in learning to read, not speak Afrikaans), I found the tapes invaluable, especially in identifying the relatively few (in my opinion) places that Afrikaans pronunciation differs substantially from Dutch.

Overall the textbook is very good and similar to the author's Colloquial Dutch course (including some of the same dialogs at that). The grammar descriptions, etc. are brief and to the point, the dialogs are also manageable, and there is sufficient review/exercise material as well.

The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there are a few words in each lesson that are neither defined in the lesson nor included with the glossary in the back of the book. If you're really interested in learning Afrikaans, I would recommend getting a decent dictionary like the Hippocrene A-E/E-A by Kromhaut or the very extensive (and very big) Reader's Digest dictionary, which you would have to order from South Africa. A final point is that the dialogs stop being translated after the first few lessons, and several times I would have liked to see an English translation of the later dialogs as a comprehension check.

Still, this is definitely the best book/course out there for learning Afrikaans, especially with the tapes and I would highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rapping with the Boers
The quality of this cassette is marvelous and I felt like checking my ears for accumulated phlegm when I took off the headphones. Side one deals with the basics of conversational Afrikaans and side 2 sets out a variety of expressions of belligerent condemnation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bruce Donaldson's COLLOQUIAL AFRIKAANS
Professor Donaldson's COLLOQUIAL AFRIKAANS was a pleaure to study. His book includes many interesting dialogues using ordinary Afrikaans. The grammar sections are surprisingly easy to read. Donaldson also includes many short exercises which cover the material very nicely. For added interest, the book is sprinkled with cultural information. Finally, Donaldson includes generous glossaries, a key to the exercises, and an index. ... Read more

But attorney Larry Clapp didn't buy it when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1991. He refused to have surgery, radiation or chemotherapy, and opted instead to investigate alternatives, finding that prostate problems don't exist in other cultures, and concluding that prostate illness was neither inevitable nor incurable. Clapp propelled himself into an intensive research effort to evaluate both traditional and alternative healing methods, and the results became the basis of the healing program that ultimately cured his cancer. The details of his journey, and a step-by-step program for becoming cancer-free in 90 days are outlined in his easy-to-follow, emotionally sensitive book,"Prostate Health in 90 Days Without Drugs or Surgery." The foundation of Clapp's program is the Nobel Prizewinning work of Otto Warburg, who won the coveted prize in 1931, for proving that cancer cannot live in cells that are in pH balance. Most of us living in an urban environment are very acidic, and therefore unwitting hosts to prostate and other cancers. The book explains how the prostate is especially vulnerable, and how to achieve a pH balance that will increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the prostate and force the cancer cells to return to normal cells. Clapp's program is based primarily on balancing the pH by clearing toxins from the body, improving the diet, exercising and working toward a healthier emotional and sexual life. A key part of the program is the Biological Terrain Assessment (BTA), a European test which is gaining popularity in the U.S. The BTA is a major break through, measuring pH, reduction oxidation, and the resistivity of the blood, saliva and urine, to two decimal places. These nine measures provide an in-depth view of the body's present condition, revealing levels of dysfunction that traditional tests don't encompass. With present weaknesses precisely established, a healing program can be mapped out and equally important, progress or lack of progress can be monitored and precisely adjusted weekly, monthly or quarterly.

5-0 out of 5 stars the book that changed my life
I bought the book immediately after being diagnosed with
prostate cancer in January this year. It gives a reliable,
holistic, serious approach to this disease and proposes
an alternative 3 month program, definitely worth trying
before one goes in for any of the classical methods.
I have done it and felt better after the first week. It truly
changed my life. One can go on and be operated on after completing this program, the result being certainly a better
general health. The book led me to the discussion forum, very
    valuable for me, too.
The author is a survivor of prostate cancer himself (well documentated on the net) and a learned person. The whole book is
something totally unusual , very clear and doesn't push the
reader towards any kind of decision except to change his style
of life for the better. I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars an important book
Books like these are invaluable to all men, especially considering that prostate cancer research receives only 1/3 the funding that breast cancer receives. So men are pretty much on their own.Fortunately, there are resources for men, though not as plentiful as for women. The current view that mens health is less important than womens and that men are dispensable, makes it vital that all men take an interest in their own health and in the health of men in general. You and I can make a difference!I encourage all men to participate in prostate cancer fundraising events whenever possible.Prostate cancer events are few and far between, and seldom ever publicized or promoted like breast cancer, nevertheless, seek them out and get involved.I have, and I feel good about it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Many Conclusions and Opinions- Little Evidence
Offers many unique and very unusual opinions, but unfortunately almost none are supported by direct references to a study, clinical trial, or scientific article. Statement after statement is presented as fact with no support. With so many strong conclusive statements presented, if the results are so clear, where are the studies, medical articles and comparative trails with supporting results!! Book cannot or doesn't provide. Appendix does provide general references/addresses/phone numbers of other "..Healers and Products". I do not recommend this book
