5-0 out of 5 stars Just astonishing
This is a typically beautiful, mesmerising read from one of the most gracious men ever to walk the planet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique, witty, and fun! One of the best audios I've "read"!
The concept of this book is so original! Just when you thought that there could be no new heroes, along comes one with Alzheimer's! How the author manages to pull this off is amazingly clever. It's funny, sad, suspensful, and keeps you riveted to your cassette player. I find myself wanting to read more by this superb author! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating behind-the-scenes look
This is a great look at life in the Navy just before the outbreak of World War II. Mason provides unique insight to a world that has been obscured by myth and movies over the past sixty years. It really gives a sense of a sailor's life in the old Navy, and his revisitation of the Pearl Harbor attack is simply riveting. A must-read for students of naval history!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Dad was a shipmate at Pearl
My Dad was assigned to the USS California from 1936 until she was sunk on December 7th. The book reads just like the stories he would tell. My Dad past away Nov 2002. He spent 30 years in the Navy and most of the stories he told were when he was on the "Prune Barge". He played football and baseball on the ships team. I always wondered if the sailor Mr. Mason spoke to when he was touring the ship when first assigned was my Dad - he was a MM3 - "snipe" - worked in the engine room. It sure did sound like a response my Dad would give. One of the sailors awarded the Medal of Honor, Robert Scott (Zeke) was my fathers best friend on the California. They were "Battleship Sailors".

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent first hand account of the Pearl Harbor attack
I really enjoyed this book. There is sure to be a massive wave of new found interest in the suprise attack on Pearl Harbor and the events surrounding it due to the upcoming movie, and anyone who wants to get a feel for what it was really like to be there on the deck of a battleship dodging bullets and bombs, this book is unequaled anywhere. What really makes this an outstanding book is not just the gripping account of the attack itself, but also of the time period just beforehand. Mr Mason does an excellent job of relaying the false sense of security and invincibility that we as Americans held before we were thrown headlong into the most savage and trying war in the history of mankind. Mr Mason's portrait of the life of a sailor in the days of the pre-war "Old Navy" is something to be treasured and preserved especially now that our population of veterans from that period is inexorably fading. I thought that the author could ease off on some of the "50-cent" words, as constantly having to consult your dictionary can interfere with your enjoyment of this book. Overall, a great read, and a must have for anyone interested in Pearl Harbor or naval history.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real sailor of the blue water Navy
I couldn't lay this book down, once started. Ted Mason put me back in Hawaii during those dark days of 1940/41. He vividly describes how it was to be a sailor in the rigid "pecking order" of the "Old Navy." As a Pearl Harbor Survivor myself, he made that day come alive. More important, he reminded me of the days of the fleet at San Pedro in 1939. Read it if you have any interest in how it was to be a young bluejacket in the pre-war Navy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bluejacket view of preWWII battleship Navy thru Dec 7th 1941
Mason gives straight scoop on pre WWII Navy
life. A reserve Radioman, Mason fights for
acceptance among the old salts. Packed with
hero worship, liberty tales of bordello
visits and the tragic events of Dec 7th, 1941
quayside at Ford Island. Old sailors will
smile as Mason tells his story of "growing up
in the Navy." Well told, but a bit disjointed
toward the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you love your pet...
If you love your pet, you'll love this book. The stories capture how important pets are in our lives. My whole family has read it. I'm writing stories about my own pet with the help of a journaling book, THE BOOK OF MY PET. It's helping me capture my endearing animal's life in the way the Chicken Soup authors did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup For The Cat and Dog Lover's Soul Was Great!
I loved this book! It is amazing to read these stories about how animals can touch our lives. This book will make you look at your pet ar any animal in a different way! If you love animals you are sure to love this book! If you don't this book will change your opinion of animals forever. I f you liked Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's soul you are bound to enjoy this collection of stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This book is amazing. If you don't like animals, no problem - I'm sure this book will make you! The stories are great and all, but the most important thing is that they make you really appreciate animals in all forms. The book teaches us that we share this world with fascinating, intelligent and beautiful creatures who should be valued and appreciated. They, too, have personalities, likes and dislikes, and everything else; I have four dogs and each one has a distinct personality. This book appreciates each and every personality-type. In the end, everyone is a winner and each dog, cat, horse or whatever animal it might be, is a hero, if only in their owner's heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Anyone Who Remotely Loves Animals
I had always loved animals, but I had never exactly been aware of the magic that takes place between humans and animals. Then I read this book. This book deepened my respect for all kinds of animals, not just cats and dogs. Not only are the stories amazing, but in the back is a section where you can get information on pets, and part of the profits from this book go to animal-related causes. This book is a must-have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Too Amazing for Words
This is the most amazing book I have ever read. When I got it I started reading and could not stop--it was almost impossible to put such a jewel down. There are stories that will make you laugh, like, "Me and My Muse," stories that will make you cry, and stories that will amaze you, like the dog that dug through a box of glass to save a kitten and a dog who chewed through his owner's door to warn his owner of a fire. If you even remotely like animals, or even if you don't, get this book. It is totally "purr"fect. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A different look at wars
In a wonderfully written book of short stories, Len Deighton looks at wars from a different angle. There is no heroics, no hero braving enemy fire and single handedly thwarting the oppositions plans. This book is about the real truth. About soldiers in despair, fearing their lives everytime they go out. It is about how wars change people. Wars are about danger and death, and not about medals and awards. For every single person receiving a bravery award, countless unknown soldiers have laid down their lives. A lovely book. Read it and be transported into the battlefield. On guard! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Healthy Now
I could not be more enthusiastic about this book "Get Healthy Now".

This book has been an inspiration in changing my life. I have whole heartly embraced the information in the section titled "Taking Charge of Your Health"...The reasons for eating organic foods and the recipes that have been presented have started me on a whole new world that I just love.

I have not been a strong advocate of an exercise regime because I never understood the importance of it, but I have now been doing the basic 28 day exercise plan, which is so clearly laid out. I feel so much better. I have more stamina, I now sleep well, and my friends have noticed the changes in me. They noticed that I seem more fit and have an air of contentment and well being.

This book is packed with so much useful information that it will be my companion for a long time.

It covers so many different possible ailments and how to correct them that I feel I have my own personal healer as Gary Null. I know he has written other books that have been excellent but this book is a perfect compilation with the most valuable pratical information.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is sincerely interested in improving their mental, physical and emotional health.

Thanks for developing such a book and the important contribution you have made to society.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of content, informative, but Gary backs off big-time.
If you've listened to Gary Null's radio program, you know he tells it like it is. He goes in depth on every topic he speaks about and that's what I love about him. Why he doesn't do that in his books is a good question.

This book is chock full of information. You can find information on pretty much any ailment, any herb, food, etc. But the information on each subject is extremely limited. Also, the information he gives out on these topics isn't his own. Most of the time, it's Gary writing on someone else's opinion. For example, on ulcers, he said "Martin Feldman, MD, recommends..." Most of the information and advice in this book is not his own. Why he did this, I do not know.

I'm a huge Gary Null fan, but not a big fan of his books. This book could be a lot better, for sure. Not to say it isn't helpful, it is. But I feel that he didn't approach this book with the same go-getting enthusiasm he puts into his radio program and lectures. I long for the day he puts that kind of effort and hard hitting information into one of his books.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Seminal Work in its Field
In this seminal guide to health and nutrition, Dr. Gary Null shows why he is the leading expert in his field. This is the definitive guide to alternative and natural treatments for disease. Eschewing the toxic pharmaceutical approach to treating symptoms, Dr. Null's encyclopedic guide delves into the all natural approach to treating the causes of illness, disease, and aging. This consists of Dr. Null's highly developed knowledge of the natural herbal and nutritional remedies to a host of health problems. It is no wonder that this NY Times bestseller is the best in its field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Results
My grandmother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. This crippling disease was robbing her of her memory and daily life. Now, 2 years after her diagnosis we discovered Gary Null's "Get Healthy Now!" This volume functions as a valuable tool to reverse her condition and take back her life. We have followed Null's natural, healty regimen and have witnessed remarkable results. She no longer struggles with this debilitating condition. We are grateful to Gary Null and his work. My grandmother can now enjoy everyday pleasures as she once did.

5-0 out of 5 stars information and motivation galore
A great read, written in such a clear and motivational manner that the information really stayed with me.I now feel like I have the details to update my diet and exercise routine.
I plan on keeping this book on my reading table. Every time I
peruse the book I learn something new, and get a boost of inspiration. Thank you Gary Null. ... Read more
