Book Description

Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, a #1 national bestseller, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical.

In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living "present, fully and intensely, in the Now." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to your heart, not the reviewers (including me)
I've noticed that some criticize Tolle for "expanding" the book or making it too long. But as Tolle himself notes, the book is written in a Q&A format where he tries to answer the same questions from different perspectives. Tolle also points out that the basic premise is not complicated, it just takes focus and practice. Others criticize Tolle for the impossible task of translating a mystical experience with words. Well, how else was he supposed to do it? Are there "mystical" media channels out there he should be communicating through?

I have read endless numbers of books on finding oneself, reaching enlightenment, and so on, and none have rung true like Tolle's book. I have given it to many friends as a gift and only one found it difficult to grasp, the rest were deeply moved. But don't listen to me or others, check it out at the library, listen to it or read it and judge for yourself. As Tolle notes, he isn't "teaching" you anything - he's reminding you what you already know. Give it a try - it may indeed change your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A spiritual Gem--Filled with depth and perception!
I don't know where to begin with this book. I will start by saying that one of the many things that makes the Power of Now a gem of a book is how Tolle has taken the core of ancient wisdom and churned out a real masterpiece without very mystical or religious concepts.
This is definately a book for someone who is into self realization..IT IS NOT A POP PSYCHOLOGY BOOK OR A NEW AGE BOOK as some in the negative reviews have claimed. That is the problem with being on a best seller list like Tolle now is, the book is being read by people who normally wouldn't read something like this and "give it a shot cause it's kind of popular now" and are faced with talk on "Ego, trancending mind chatter, enlightenment, how the past/future are only mental creations etc." This is a book for people who are willing to take a moment to understand the premise...your true nature is beyond body, mind identification/constructs. Not in a very mystical way-in very natural way, one can even say a scientific way, the science of all religions before they became organized religions--the message of true self realization.
Of course the book takes a certain EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE. We hear over and over that we are all ONE and that our true nature is beyond the body but how many of us truly get that in an experiental no nonsense way? Very few. The Power of Now's core teachings are a deep inner path not a quick-pop book.
In conclusion, Tolle has a great ability to communicate with very deep perception and the book is nothing short of brilliant.
The premise is--Suffering is due to the mind made self, the Present helps one transend the false self. Once transended...the discovery of Timeless NOW free of mental anguish...Sorry to sound weird.
Please read this book with patience and keep a Zen like mindset to get into the tone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Climb the Signpost
Tolle's book is an important one... a much needed reminder that is too easy to forget. All too often people can pass entire lifetimes 'missing the moment.' One can, like the worst type of junkie, become so comfortable with-and so used to-anxiety, worry, and procrastination that to simply experience tranquility in the present becomes an impossibility. For such people, the simple and inspirational teachings that The Power of Now details can incite a revolution in one's experience of being alive. That being said, though, this book possesses flaws and confusions that must be sifted through using a keen sense of criticism (yes, this too, is an important faculty of the healthy human being).

First of all, becoming present is a practice-not a realization. I'm not sure Tolle makes this clear. Like any 'new thing' the appreciation of the present moment can seem novel and exciting but if one doesn't make it a practice and use discipline to habitualize the practice, then one will have merely another gimmick, a spiritual toy to play with for a while and then put aside. The reason why all the schools of enlightenment require masters and students and instills its practitioners with discipline and a set of methods is because nothing in life comes all at once but must be cultivated with care over a period of time. Because of this truth, I genuinely doubt Tolle's claim that after his midnight awakening he was-all-at-once-transformed, never to require further training or practice. The experience he describes at the beginning of the book might just as well be labeled a psychotic break as a religious experience. Either way, the genuine appreciation of the moment can neither be totally 'on' nor totally 'off.' It is a variable experience that can be developed but will always remain part of the organic experience of being alive. Be wary of those who seem to show no anger, no sadness, no flaw... such people are usually very good actors and nothing more. Spend time with such people, in different types of contexts, to reveal the true human being. No unidimensional personality can exist in reality. We are always part of our context and environment and no matter our training or character can be expected to occasionally fall short of others' expectations.

A guide to enlightenment, then, should teach us that enlightenment is neither a great distance away nor too near. It is thoughtful experience revealed through action and word. I have seen car mechanics who are enlightened beings when they work on cars but atrocious when with their families. I have met novelists who convey all the wisdom in the world through a pen but seem haughty and fractured in normal human conversation. And I have met spiritual 'masters' who secretly creep away to have sex for the sixth time in a day or to check their stocks on the internet. Enlightenment is a myth, and some people treat it like a commodity to purchase or sell. To live well requires the experience of the present-often-but not all the time and in all situations.

Joseph Campbell once expressed the opinion that the type of enlightenment we have become familiar with is unique to a conception of self that was once fairly common in Asia. The type of self most moderns live by, especially we very 'special' Westerners with our love for 'Individuality' and 'Self-Expression,' excludes the possibility of such an experience. Perhaps it is time, then, we drop this idea and redefine what enlightenment should mean now-and to people like us.

Use this book as a pointer and compass, not as a map. The Buddha said it best, Be Lamps Unto Yourselves. I would add-and don't hide from the dark when it comes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yes, Good book, but..
I was inspired to make a comment here with regard to the person with the headline:"Be wary of the Master" I think this person needs to be heard. Part of the problem with the fanaticism that grows out of great works like this is the DANGER of forgetting that the "teacher" is indeed, very human,if not flawed. It is important to know where Tolle is as far as "walking his talk". If you can't demonstrate the virtues of compassion, right action, right deeds, etc. then what is the damned point? Being "CONCIOUS" or writing a brilliant book is not enough. Putting it into your deeds, is. I'm glad that person spoke up.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best explanation of conscious existence yet...
The review titled "Be wary of the Master..." reveals more about its writer than about Tolle. It is ultimately unimportant to me what kind of person Eckhart Tolle is. His work speaks for itself.
"The Power of Now" is the most brilliant explanation of consciousness and existence I have read to date. It is stated so simply and eloquently, and effectively, that, if you settle down in a quiet space before you open the book, resist the temptation to use your intellect (to rationalize, compare and contrast), and just take in what is underlying his words, you may partake of the richest experience and deepest insightful 'aha's' you've ever gotten from a piece of writing.
And do get the book: put off getting the CD or tape until you've experienced the entire book in a quiet space. You shouldn't be multi-tasking when you read or hear his words, otherwise you will shortchange your experience. Lastly, do observe his pauses. They're placed where they are for good reason. This is the moment where you let the sense of what you've read sink in more deeply.
Then you may finally 'get' how to be present, to experience the vast and powerful "being" that underlies all our busy thoughts, awaiting our conscious awareness. And then, just maybe, we can heal this world. ... Read more

Book Description

John Edward’s focus in spiritual teaching is now being spotlighted on his own path of religious and spiritual enlightenment, and he is now sharing it in this book, PRACTICAL PRAYING: Using the Rosary to Enhance your Life.

This book explores the power of the rosary as a tool to bring focused energy and creative thought into your everyday life. For many people, their daily lives are a dark place with an even darker future, and John Edward shares how his belief in the power of prayer alone can help to illuminate a path for each individual to follow… using God’s gift of free will to chart our own course. Although he is quick to suggest this is not the fix to ‘find happiness’ in a material sense, the promise of living a more abundant life in general can be achieved.

This book is divided into three sections. Section I deals with John’s overview of the process of prayer, his thoughts about writing on this subject matter, and the history of the rosary as authorized by the Catholic Church. Section II is how he has utilized the power of prayer through the use of the rosary, and Section III is an audio CD that goes over the process of using the techniques of practical praying.

The rosary is a powerful form of prayer and meditation, and this book lays it out with a direct, and easy approach. Most of all, it includes some fascinating and inspirational anecdotes from John's personal experiences with the rosary.I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best John Edward Book yet!
This is truly a wonderful and inspirational book.

In the past, I had not been sure about the authenticity of John Edward.I did, however, believe that he was providing a comfort to those suffering from grief due to the loss of a close loved-one.

So, regardless if he was truly communicating with the spirit of one passed-on or whether he was only communicating from within himself, he was still providing a service to those suffering.

This book is inspirational in that John tells how the Rosary has helped him in the loss of his Mother, Aunt, and Granmother and how it centers him in his work. Now that I have read this book, he has me believing that he is a true blessing.

The book comes with an audio CD which has the rosary spoken by Roma Downey and another version by John Edward. This is truly wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Guide to Using the Rosary for Focused Prayer
John Edward has written a clear, unsentimental, non-preachy guide to using the rosary as a tool for focusing the intention of your prayers.

Edward, a Catholic, makes it clear that he didn't write this book in an attempt to win converts. Rather, he shares his own method of using the rosary as a meditation tool, etc. He also makes mention of other religions which use similar tools --prayer beads, etc.-- for the same purpose. (So there's something for everyone in this short little guide.)

This is a good guide for anyone who:

--wants to know more about the rosary (in general),
--would like a new approach to their own daily prayer rituals
--needs a specific "how-to" for using the rosary
--is interested in a brief history of the rosary

All around, an interesting book, worth the hour or so it takes to read. (The personal information on Edward is also intriguing.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Dust Off Your Rosary OR Wash Your Hands!
When I went to one of John Edward's seminars last year, I wanted to ask him one question. That question was, "how do you combine your faith, being a Catholic, and praying in your work.As I got to the venue door, someone handed me a flyer that announced his soon to be published book, "Practical Praying."My question was answered before I even got in the door!

Thank you, John, for once again sharing your personal experiences in a way that makes the reader feel as if you are speaking just to them. And, thank you for taking the time to give your readers a way to continue praying, maybe with more fervor, return to prayer and look at it in a new way, or take a chance on praying for the first time.

This small, yet dynamic book and CD is not about how to become a Catholic. It's not about everyone running out and buying a rosary so you can pray correctly. It's not even about saying the prayers in the book.It IS about answering the questions John is asked so often about "his way."And it is about finding your way to prayer in your own way.

In the face of all that has gone on recently, and in the recent past, people all over the world are asking "what can I do."John Edward has answered this question for anyone that wants to find their way to everyday prayer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Praying with intent
This book has arrived at a time when two very high profile deaths (Teri Schiavo and the Pope) have most assuredly hadpeople praying with intent. As John points out, many experiences in our lives would be desperate and bleak without prayer. This book is very useful, timely, and relevant.
Not being of Catholic faith, the rosary has always been a bit of a mystery to me, so I found the information on its history and its use of great interest. Whether or not someone chooses to incorporate the rosary into their prayer dialogue, the book itself is a useful tool and challenges us to take another step on our personal journey towards a more spiritual life.As always, John is willing to share his personal experiences as they relate to the subject in a manner that is heartfelt and often humorous. What some might perceive as either an extrememly dry or serious subject is given a little levity without losing the dignitydiscussion of prayer and faith deserve.
Alone, the bonus CD with the lovely lilt of Roma Downey is worth the purchase price; book and CD combined, even better! You won't be sorry if you add Practical Praying to your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Tool for Developing Prosperity Consciousness!
This is a supreme book for shedding old, unwanted belief systems and thinking patterns that can block prosperity in one's life. I have read many books on prosperity, and none of them have impacted me as much as this one has. I could literally feel my consciousness being cleared of poverty thinking and false beliefs as I read the book. The author does an excellent job of recounting inspirational anecdotes and examples of how others have successfully enlisted God's help in attracting financial prosperity into their lives. This helped me enormously, as it illustrated that if they can do it, surely I can as well!

I especially recommend this book for anyone who does spiritually-related work for a living (i.e., ministerial work, spiritual counseling and teaching, etc.). Sometimes, we can hold the erroneous belief that poverty is holy, and we should not accept money for helping others in a spiritual way. However, we must accept money for our work if we expect to do things like eat, keep a roof over our heads and pay our bills! Catherine Ponder helped me to eradicate some remaining resistance I had to accepting money for spiritual work, and I am eternally blessed and grateful as a result. The book also helped me to resolve old beliefs that there is only so much to go around. In truth, we live in a completely abundant and prosperous universe, and God can provide for everyone's needs abundantly, prosperously, and simultaneously. The more people who realize this and put these principles into practice, the more we will experience this on our planet. Please go within and ask for higher guidance to see if this book is right for you- it has already brought many, many people a host of Divine blessings!

5-0 out of 5 stars Catherine Ponder's book is timeless and invaluable!
I read this book many years ago and was totally inspired and helped. Eventually, it fell apart and I got away from its powerful message. But I never forgot its impact.I have just bought another copy so I may once again immerse myself in its wisdom, advice, motivation, and wonderful prosperity-creating affirmations. I would recommend Catherine Ponder's books to anyone and everyone who wants to live life to the fullest!

5-0 out of 5 stars From bad to nothing but the best!!!!
The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity is a powerful book. Often times, people have an averse reaction to the word "prosperity." What one does not realize is prosperity means wholeness-wholeness in every area of our lives, not just financially. This book will help you to realize how many negative, self-defeating thoughts and behaviors you are holding that are ultimately preventing you from having the good life you so deserve as a child of the living God. Through affirmations, messages on the truth of God and God's Word, you will come to learn the power of forgiveness; the power of love, the power of prayer, the power of your thoughts, the power of your spoken words, the power of the tithe and so much more. I highly recommend this book for you and those you want to inspire and empower to have a dynamic life of "total life" prosperity: health, peace, happiness, love and financial peace.

This manual-style book instantly dives into Eckhart Tolle's principles of "living in the moment," which could be a jarring experience for readers who haven't read his preceding book, The Power of Now. For the initiated, though, this makes an excellent companion guide--rich in exercises and meditations to help readers get out of their minds so they can live more peacefully in their bodies. Sometimes it's hard to fathom what on earth Tolle is talking about: "To regain awareness of Being and to abide in that state of 'feeling-realization' is enlightenment." Be patient. All concepts will be revealed (or at least more carefully explained). Ultimately, Tolle leads readers into a new form of thinking (or actually not thinking) that erases the consuming habits of waiting, worrying, and being in fear. The first step is ending the "delusion of time." He asks, "Are you always trying to get somewhere other than where you are? ... Is most of your doing just a means to an end?" If so, Tolle has a book full of advice for you. As simplistic as this may sound, Tolle's work hasspiritual merit and depth, especially for frantic Westerners who find their lives diminished by packed schedules and busy-ness. --Gail Hudson ... 5-0 out of 5 stars NOW is WOW!
Such a simple message, yet so profound and full of wisdom! I did not read Eckhart Tolle's first book on this subject because at the time of purchase, I preferred the Reader's Digest version of his message. I got it! It's written in a way that makes sense and is very satisfying.

This is what I learned: When faced with the illusion of a problem, you have the ability to chase that problem away by living in the Now. In other words, if you mentally take an issue out of the "problem" category, you will in essence take the problem's power away -- it is no longer a problem. This way of thinking, thinking in the NOW, has eleviated stress in my life. I can now look at my life with appreciation, moment by moment. It takes practice. When you do this, you are making a choice to seek positive solutions rather than hone in on that which is negative or out of your control.

In reading this little book of wisdom, I've found that the secret of life is your perception. Living in the Now, truly living in the now, is uplifting, satisfying, and the most powerful place to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Which one to buy?
Since the content of Tolle's books has been covered well elsewhere, I'd like to address the person new to Tolle and wondering where to begin.

In my personal experience, if I could only afford to purchase one book, I'd start with PRACTICING THE POWER OF NOW. I feel that it essentially restates the material found in the original POWER OF NOW but in a format I found easier to digest. I don't see much point in owning both books (which I currently do.)

If you connect with PRACTICING and want more, then I'd recommend the audio book/retreat Realizing the Power of Now: An In-Depth Retreat With Eckhart Tolle. (It's less than $10 if you purchase the audio file from Audible.) I'm only half way through listening yet I constantly find myself thinking " I understand what he meant." It truly is an excellent supplement.

There is one more Tolle book here, STILLNESS SPEAKS. I borrowed this from the library. It's basically just out-takes from the other books, sort of a quotable quotes book that restates things in a nutshell. It would make a nice gift to a Tolle fan, but again, doesn't offer anything more than the other books. I suppose my message is: everything you need to know is in the original POWER OF NOW, stated perhaps more clearly in PRACTICING and excerpted in STILLNESS but supported well in audio format by the retreat CD.

I find Tolle's basic message very powerful, enlightening and simple. As he himself constantly repeats, he's not saying anything here now. But he explains it in a way which finally connects the dots for me. Unfortunately, this simple message seems to be getting constantly repackaged and I hope it doesn't turn into a "Chicken Soup for the Enlightened Soul" series. (I should probably go make sure that's not the title of an actual book! )

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic contribution to humanity
I have studied many spiritual paths for over 30 years, and the wisdom Eckhart Tolle provides in Practicing the Power of Now is truly enlightening. I learned much from this book, and it is one of the few that I highly recommend. I learned much from the wisdom provided, and once applied, I felt a genuine release of the negativity that I used to feel. This is another rare contribution that I HIGHLY recommend, which is why I give it the five stars it deserves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another way to think about repetition...
I see that some readers are concerned about repetition in the various publications and question whether economic motives are the driving force. I do not know Mr. Tolle and withhold judgment. However, through many years of experiential reading I recognize when books consist of far more than words. The wisdom of the author's higher consciousness is being directed through the printed media. It's there for the taking by all who will slow down and allow it in. Many will recognize that following an evolving workshop teacher over time allows the student to partake of the increasing wisdom carried and shared by the teacher. Although the logical premise in a series of writings may remain the same, later compositions might convey increasingly higher "energy hits". Looking at the "value added" component might be a consideration when deciding what to purchase. As with everything else, individuals should use their own discretion to get a feeling sense of what might be good for them. The rich energy behind the words in this volume sent me to deep places within myself. I suggest being fully present with each sentence, one at a time, in order to get the most out of the reading experience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hippy-Dippy wisdom
"When you claim well documented prior spiritual thoughts to be your own it only diminishes your credibility. I wish Tolle provided appropriate references - such as the Upanishads, the Gita, the Kashmir Shaivism, the Dhammapada and the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra. Enlightenment means complete dissolution of the ego -not the refinement of it -- so when I see Tolle trying to pass this stuff as his own - it just takes away of his claim of being enlightened. Tolle regurgitates in verbally articulate manner spiritual gossip or as another reviewer put it a rather funny manner superficial "Hippy-Dippy wisdom". "

Ultimately there are many religions but spirituality is only one and the essence of it is documented in the Upanishads. ... Read more

As little children we know how to live in the moment and be completely authentic. But then something damaging happens to us, according to author Don Miguel Ruiz: we are given "knowledge" about how to live in the world. Parents tell us how to behave in order to be a "good" boy or girl. Teachers tell us what it takes to be a "winner" or a "successful" adult. This collective "voice of knowledge" is not only false--it is often poisonous, explains Ruiz, bestselling author of The Four Agreements. It makes us believe that "I am not the way I should be; it is not okay to be me." Drawing upon the story of Adam and Eve, Ruiz refers to the forbidden tree of knowledge and likens the abandonment of the true self to the fall from heaven. What Ruiz calls "the voice of knowledge" others spiritual teachers might call ego--the hidden and carefully defended belief system that prevents us from living and expressing who we really are. "The structure of our knowledge makes us feel safe….When we discover that we are not what we believe we are, the foundation of our entire reality begins to collapse." In the Toltec tradition, Ruiz says every human is an artist, "and the supreme art is the expression of the beauty of our spirit." He explains that there are two kinds of artists: "the ones who create their story without awareness, and the ones who recover awareness and create their story with truth and love." The recovering of awareness is what this fourth book in the Toltec Wisdom series is all about. This makes for a good bedside spiritual growth book. Each chapter closes with "Points to Ponder"--summary thoughts to sleep upon as you create the more authentic story of your life. --Gail Hudson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gift of Truth for Humanity. 10 Stars!
Don Miguel Ruiz has brought us all a gift to reclaim our own truth, from within our own hearts rather than listen to the 'voice of knowledge' that so many people have destroyed when they give their own 'knowledge' to you.
This wonderful book will help you shatter the judgment, self-recrimination, and denial of your greatest attributes that you have taken on from others, and have even learned to deny within your own self.

The only truth is that which you were born with. Don Miguel Ruiz helps you to re-connect to the Divine attributes and qualities that you DO hold within, despite what other's tell you, and despite what you may have 'learned' to tell yourself.
This book will help you open up to the wondrous being you are, so you can align with your OWN truth, soar in your life, unattached to outcomes, and love yourself in the joy-filled process you deserve.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to claim his or her authentic self.

"The Voice of Knowledge: A Practical Guide to Inner Peace" is brilliantly entitled, for it is what it says it is.

I found it to be a magical & powerful book. Don Miguel Ruiz, with Janet Mills, has been able to transfer undistored Light - Life, Truth, and Love - into the energy of his simple, dynamically impacting words. Don Miguel writes in the manner of sharing, rather than 'teaching'. In so doing it activates and allows us the opportunity to realize for ourselves.

By using Don Miguel's pointers and becoming familiar with our own voices of judgement, which we've been living with and existing by, distortions in our 'thinking' come to light with the consequence of coming more into alignment with, and, Life itself. Inherently, then one can then recognize the difference between 'the voice of knowledge' and 'silent knowledge'. This book stands on its own. When ingested - digested, absorbed, and integrated, through applying that Light into one's own life, more awareness of who and what we truly one are comes into expression physically from the love and the peace found within.

This book is a precious and priceless jewel. I did not want to to put it down until I'd finished it, yet it was like wanting to take a long time to savor and get all the goodness out of a delightful and deliciously nutritious meal. It is one that I look forward to re-reading often - to continue to open up to the light and physical life activity that has been catalysed within me - and from the on-going changing perspective of one on the path. It is encouraging, and practical wisdom. I found it a 'living experience'. What better 'food' can there be?

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
Don Miguel Ruiz is a very smart man and he writes very simply about the most important things for better lives! In "Voice of Knowledge" he really makes us fully understand what Toltects really stand for! He gives us some brilliant ideas on how can we lead a lot more better lives then we are now. He writes about "The Voice of Knowledge" which in truth is our inner voice or as Don likes to refer to it, The Liar.
He is so right when he recommends to us that if our inner voice is our verbal abuser and says negative things about us - we should learn to totally ignore it or at least not believe what it says to us.
Then...what I liked the most about the book is regarding the "Nobody's Perfect"! Well if you're one of those who still believe that nobody or nothing's perfect then read this book and you'll never get to feel that way again.

After all, this book is wonderful by all means and in my opinion I think every person should read it. As there's something for everyone in it.

Highly Recommended

This book is amazing! If you truly want to find peace with your self and others - Read this book! It's changing my life for the better and I no longer have to worry about so many other things or people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another gift from Don Miguel Ruiz
This is a perfect companion to "The Four Agreements." I just finished this and I can't wait to read it again. There are stories from the authors past, explaining his journey, and making this book wonderfully personal. The book discusses how to not listen to that voice within us that causes us so much drama and pain. How to forget, and change our 'programming', the domestication, and the lies that have permeated our lives. The book even breifly goes back over The Four Agreements. This book is truely a must have. It, like all his other books, are a gift from above. They leave you feeling incredible and the more that they are read, the greater the message becomes. I know that I have said that in other reviews of Ruiz's books, but it is the truth and it is worthy of repeating. ... Read more

What good would it do to find this place again in a world where the greatest religion is science and the logic of the mind?Don’t I know this world where emotions and feelings are second-class citizens?Yes, I do.

But my teachers have asked me to remind you who you really are.You are more than a human being, much more. For within your heart is a place, a sacred place where the world can literally be remade through conscious cocreation. If you give me permission, I will show what has been shown to me." – Drunvalo Melchizedek ... Drunvalo has done it again. This book gets straight to the point. He shares his experiences and those of others in his seminars that have reached the sacred space within the heart, and he explains the processes and techniques he uses to enter this space. Reading this book will leave you remembering something you have always known. Doing the meditations and entering the sacred place will change your life!

We are moving quickly to 2012, the coming of a New Age (The Great Awakening, as some call it). Drunvalo is almost like the human beacon of light that is guiding us there. This book is his latest findings (he works with various ascended masters) on how to live, create intention (and create), and discover your sacred purpose for existance -- in the sacred space of your heart. This book is fascinating and unlike his other two books, it is short and to the point (without all of that left-brained math). It is almost like a "how to" guide that leads, in a very simple way, to the sacred space of the heart. I loved every second of reading this book. Thanks Drunvalo!!! ... Read more

Book Description

How can we go on living "when things fall apart" – when we are overcome by pain, fear, and anxiety? Pema Chodron’s answer to that question contains some spectacularly good news: there is a fundamental happiness readily available to each one of us, no matter how difficult things seem to be. But to find it, we must learn to stop running from suffering, and instead actually learn to embrace it – fearlessly, compassionately, and with curiosity. This radical practice enables us to use all situations, even very painful ones, as means for discovering the truth and love that are utterly indestructible. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Advice is not very useful
This book caught my attention in a bookstore at a time when I was going through a lot of stress due to things "falling apart" in my life. Basically, I was in a situation where just nothing seemed to be going right. I bought this book and started reading it. It gets very quickly into the teachings of buddhism. The primary message that I got from the book was that of "letting go". Yes, this is one way of dealing with things when they get overwhelming. But there are other, far better ways, I think. This book is a valuable read for understanding buddhist philosophy. But, if you're looking for inspiration during trying times in your life, you'll have to look elsewhere--and there are plenty of such inspirational books. A good example of such a book is "Many Lives, Many Masters" by Brian Weiss.

When one is going through difficult times, I don't think one should just give up and stop trying. But that is the recommendation of this book. Instead, I think one can change one's thoughts and one's expectations. But one should not stop making an effort altogether and just "let go" completely. The book's title is misleading; it won't really help someone whose life is falling apart. I know for sure that it didn't help me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leaning into life's sharp points.
Life's difficult times may be inevitable, but they're not a prerequisite for appreciating the 146 pages of wisdom found in this book. Pema Chodron is the director of Gampo Abbey in Pleasant Bay, Nova Scotia. WHEN THINGS FALL APART pays respect to her teacher, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. We learn in the book's title essay, before becoming a Buddhist nun, Chodron survived the anger of a failed marriage. In truth, she writes, it saved her life (p. 10).

Chodron's experience illustrates the point of the 22 "teachings" contained within this book: "Life is a good teacher and a good friend" (p. 10). Life, Chodron observes, "is like riding a train sitting backwards" (p. 143). Leaning into the sharp points along the way is the kind of instruction we can apply to our lives to bring about "revolutionary changes in how we perceive things" (p. 139). The thorny path through hope, fear, death, loneliness, opinion and chaos should not be avoided. It is the goal.

I have now read Chodron's book twice. It is like a heart-to-heart encounter with an insightful friend. Thank you, Pema Chodron.

5-0 out of 5 stars Infinite Power for Living
I grew up and was deeply involved in a moderate Baptist church. For much of my life I considered myself a "good" Christian who knew that Jesus died for my sins and therefore I also knew that I was bound for heaven. But it wasn't until I was 40 years old and had seen my life fall apart that I decided to let go of my life completely, and give it to God.

Interestingly, after this total commitment and release to God, I was immediately and strangely drawn to the biblical book of Ecclesiastes. Many wonder why this book was included in the bible because it seems to contain nothing but the pervading theme of hopelessness. Yet, its words seemed to give me comfort and a source of spiritual strength. It was difficult for me then to explain this to other Christians.

Pema's book is a kind of contemporary practical application of the teaching found in Ecclesiastes. Of course our lives and our world are utterly evanescent. Nothing lasts. Yet, most of us become quite delusional during our lives by effectively denying this fact. We grab hold of anything we can that can give us a sense of a sustainable and unique identity... including our religious tradition. But any or all of this can be taken away in an instant. Both Pema's and Ecclesiastes' teachings have the power to bring us home by helping us to discover our eternal identity in the unmanifest... in the mystery of Infinite Spirit. Once we find our home there, nothing can shake us. There is a power and a joy that is not fully describable with words... because its source lies beyond words, beyond creation.

In one of Jesus' prayers he asks God to bring all people into Oneness... "may they be One as we are One." Pure Oneness implies the loss (even death) of a separate identity, and the realization of a universal identity as One. Pema's use of the idea of hopelessness is really the movement through the death of our false and fleeting separate identities into the ultimate home of Oneness with each other and with God. I believe that Pema's teachings can aid any one that is ready, whose ego has been broken enough, to discover their eternal home even as they live in this manifested world. This can be a liberated life filled with the courage and fearlessness to bring Unconditional Love to the whole world, and especially to the seemingly unlovable.

I do not understand the fascination with Pema Chodron's works. Her voice sounds like somenoe who has never known a day of joy in her life. She is extremely repressed sounding and sucks the life out of LIFE. I felt like I was chocking on cardboard listening to her. While I agree with her that we shouldn't contine to believe that we can creat a permanence to our lives her way is just as devoid of seeing the truth. Lovingkindness and Compassion are what makes life worthwhile but I felt like my mind was being dragged over cement listening to how she thought we should go about accomplishing this. There are plenty of teachers who are better such as Jack Kornfield or Sharon Salzburg who seem to convey some of these ideas in a way that feels compassionate. I think Pema just has catchy titles for her books. She also offers no reasonable way to live out these teachings in a way that works towards peace or the caretaking of our planet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great work
Pema Chodron is a beloved American Buddhist nun who trained under Chogyam Trungpa, the at times controversial Tibetan meditation master. Yet whatever qualms you may have in mind about him, please don't let that taint your perception of Pema. She is truly a shining, clear and loving teacher among us today.

In this book Pema draws from the traditional Buddhist wisdom in order to give us thorough and kindhearted advice on what to do when, as the title suggests, "things fall apart." There is only one approach that grants lasting benefit, Pema tells us here, and that entails approaching these situations with openness and inquisitiveness. Teaching us to embrace our painful emotions, she shows the way on how to gain both wisdom and compassion not just towards and for ourselves, but for all people.

5-0 out of 5 stars An optimistic look into the future
Written in a style much more accessible to the general reader than his previous, more professionally oriented, book "Stop the Nightmares of Trauma", Dr. Callahan gives us a concise and fascinating account of his development of TFT from its earliest beginnings to the latest findings. Also included are treatment protocols for the self-help of numerous emotional problems, with a confidently stated 75-80% success rate. Of course, this may come as a disappointment to the 20-25% on whom the treatments are initially unsuccessful but Dr. Callahan invites them to explore their options further in an excellent troubleshooting section and an invitation to contact him for further advice. An opportunity too good to miss! However, there will almost always be those for whom "no change" is unacceptable and they will no doubt dismiss Dr. Callahan's work in its entirety. Amusingly, he even explores this and other "TFT induced" phenomena in an entertaining account of what he calls the Apex Problem! Overall, a particularly optimistic look into the future of treatment for troubled emotion and highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Caution....must have an OPEN MIND to use properly
I find it terribly sad that so many have ego problems with using and understanding these techniques. They are simple, profound, and effective IF USED PROPERLY. Roger Callahan is the "godfather" of EFT, and Energy Medicine in general. Here he shares his exciting discoveries as a practical guide for self-help of a multitude of issues confronting the average human. One of the primary steps to using this effectively for yourself is to keep your mind steadily focused on the issue you are attempting to heal. Since most of us have trouble with this type of "one pointed" focus (our minds can bounce around at lightening speed!), we may have trouble getting results, and consider this a failure. It isn't!
As a suggestion to the person with the blushing problem...a focus on the "feeling" that comes before the actual blushing would most likely work. However, it sounds like this person has a lot of trouble with embarassment in general....and may need to work on a multitude of aspects before getting relief. I find it fascinating that the idea of tapping on the accupoints would cause such traumatic embarrassment! I think we need to lighten up....and perhaps deal with the phobia of "feeling like a fool". This is not a proctological exam here. As the old saying goes...let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater! Sometimes the spirit of playfullness works better than taking ourselves too seriously and making unrealistic demands of a technique. As a healing practioner who now uses these techniques regularly, I would say that less than 1 in 100 do not get results.I find that "operator error" is responsible with my clients. At times they forget something...and need to be corrected. Those who aren't happy with the results would do well to find a PERSON TO GUIDE THEM to make sure you are doing the technique properly.Let's consider that exercise can do more harm than good if not done properly. Should we stop exercizing because we once injured ourselves? One interesting side effect for my clients is that the healing can be SO COMPLETE they forget they ever had the problem in the first place! Apex effect! Interesting considering that the problem dominated their thinking 95% of the time prior to treatment.I have tried these techniques on myself, and was able to heal the following issues: poor self image, insomnia, tinnitus, childhood trauma, chronic fatigue, back pain due to injury, to name a few. My advice is DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU"VE TRIED IT....AND KNOW YOU"RE DOING IT RIGHT!

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me
I purchased this book in hopes it would help me to eliminate my fear of blushing - which I only have a problem with at work - not socially at all.

I was hopeful because I have read many books and tried almost all suggestions. I felt like a complete fool sitting in my room tapping on my body in various spots while at the same time humming tunes and counting aloud from 1 to 5. Well it sure doesn't cure blushing but it did give me a laugh of how silly I must have looked and how gulible I feel now for purchasing this book. I'm really glad that it worked for others - either my problem can't be helped with this method or this method just doesn't work on me. Good luck to others!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Accuracy and validity check needed
Reading D Virue's dialog on Indigo children seems to have a lot of misunderstood premises on Ms. Virtue's part. She brings in much of her own biases and dogmatic belief systems. Read this with an open mind so to see through the heavy belief systems of Ms. Virtue, as it contains some poignant truths about Indigos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing... I found myself!
I have a 3 y old son who I could recognize as an indigo child, so I decided to learn more and bought "The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children"
by Doreen, PhD Virtue. After the first chapter I was crying like a baby, because all these years I was "bullied" and make fun of by adults because I was hyperactive, always asked too many questions, didn't want to conform and seeing dead people... Well, here it was black on white my life! She says that some of us are "lightworkers", another book to read I guess. Now, I have the tools to guide and help my son who is already showing signs of struggling to be and remain different... special. I also wept for the million of children on Ritalin. Fantastic tool, a source of enlightment and happiness! More people should open their mind and take a leap of faith. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy on the Spiritual
Indigo children, a recognized group among today's young people, have been diagnosed, studied, and supported by psychologists, educators, and lay people. Born after 1978, they are described as bright, intuitive, strong-willed, and sometimes self-destructive individuals. I learned about them from some educators I served in a consulting capacity and read "The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived" by Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. I learned a lot from that book and found myself wanting more. That drive led me to this book.

Compared to "The Indigo Children", this book fell short of my expectations. Because of the author's strong spiritual leaning, the topics, content, and treatment went much further into angels and prayers than it did into how to work practically with these special young people. Perhaps I should have expected this when I saw the author's photo on the back cover. It's a rather unusual shot of a woman in a forest with a Koala bear and she does not appear to have clothes on. Different kind of author photo than I'm accustomed to.

Virtue is described as a PhD "spiritual doctor of psychology." She's heavily invested in angels (author of "Healing with Angels"), which is quite obvious in the book. There is significant text devoted to angels, prayers, and the evils of pharmaceuticals like Ritalin. Some readers may find the pre-written prayers helpful for them. My Indigo step-daughter was less than enthusiastic about prescriptions for communicating with spirits, though the book suggests that some Indigos are really into that sort of experience.

The book includes a number of valuable tips about diet, concentration, and overcoming insomnia. I would have personally preferred more emphasis on these practical techniques than the heavy spiritual component and astrological comments. If you are into the spiritual, you'll enjoy this book, becoming immersed in all of its aspects. If you are not so spiritual, you'll still find some worthwhile concrete ideas and techniques interwoven in the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars the care and feeding of Indigo Children
I thought I was the only parent with a child like this. This book has a lot of insight and practical ways to help your child and to my surprise myself. It confirmed many things that I knew already, but having some assurance in realizing that " you are not alone" helped tremendously.

The spiritual aspect depends on your personal beliefs, but it does help to know that it can be effective in your life. I've tried a lot of the exercises with success, but I still have some work to do.

Thank you for your insight and deciding to write it in a book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Breakthrough book for parents and educators
In this book, Doreen Virtue describes clearly the ways in which we are evolving as a species. Children born since about 1975 kids are demonstrating specific traits, which are different than those of previous generations. Along with these different traits come different needs. They carry more energy. They have more finely developed intuitive abilities. They need a reason to do things; rote learning and rigid authority are intolerable to them. They need activities to be life-purposeful. They have a sense of life purpose that is strong and must be respected. And they have great gifts to share as light-workers, innovators, healers and problem-solvers.

Dr. Virtue gives parents the information they need to support the unfoldment and development of their kids in every aspect of life from "care and feeding" their kids physically to nurturing their spiritual development, talents and abilities. She draws upon her experience as a psychologist and a parent, on spiritual guidance and on good, solid research. She writing "voice" is clear, accessible, authoritative and loving.

This is a breakthrough book for parents, teachers and educators at every level, social workers, therapists and pediatricians. It will help them understand why medicating higher energy levels is counterproductive and will give them practical tips on alternative solutions, so that they can assist not only their own kids, but our culture itself to flourish. ... Book Description

This book sheds light on many of life's nagging mysteries. If you've been wondering why you were born, what death is, and why there can be so much pain in-between . . . if you question your choices, aren't sure about the people you attract into your life, and would love to stop making the same "mistakes" over and over again . . . then read on. For 25 years, Suzane Northrop has been working as a trance medium and has come to enjoy an international reputation for integrity, accuracy, and responsibility.Over the years Suzane's work has brought meaning to the messages from our loved ones who have passed to the bond of love between the living and the dead. Now, in this unique work, she examines the relationship between those who have passed over, our own souls and the lessons we are here to learn-or our Soul Program-and shows unequivocally that everything happens for a reason. Why are we here?We are in this life for a purpose-whether we're aware of it or not-and that purpose is to learn, to accomplish what each soul has chosen as its program, and that could mean anything. It's whatever our souls need to learn. It might be patience or self-reliance or dealing with loss or compassion. Each soul has a different program; no two souls need to learn or accomplish exactly the same thing. The soul's path is to grow, and each path is unique for each soul. What is death?Death is a new beginning. One of the greatest misconceptions people can have about death is to think of it as an ending. While it may be the conclusion of one specific phase of a soul's journey, death is just as surely the beginning of the next. It's simply another phase of transition in the evolution of our soul's ongoing existence and quest for growth, lived, at least temporarily, on another plane. If it were a play, it would be the next act.If it were a book, it would be the next chapter. What's with all the pain?Without free choice, life would have no real purpose. We'd all just be sitting around waiting to find out what someone else had decided was going to happen to us.Words like morality, ambition, motivation, good, and evil would have no meaning. Our free will gives us the power of choice, but it can cause hurt.If we keep making the same choice, and each time we make the choice it causes us pain, it's because we haven't yet learned from experience to make a different choice the next time.No one is punishing us; we're simply punishing ourselves. But, again, there's a reason. We are in a time of decision. Will we remain satisfied living in a space of denial, ignorance, and unresolved issues? This is a time that is calling each and every one of us to step up to the plate with a deep dedication to our loved ones, our relationships, our lives, and ourselves. We are called to learn how to live and speak our truth with love, compassion, understanding, and forgiveness-for others and ourselves. We are excitingly on the threshold of the old and new, of light and dark, of illusion and truth, and adventure and complacency. There is no doubt there is a reason we find ourselves at the point we are in time.We have created it . . . for a reason. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong title
From the title, "Everything happens for a reason", I expect to read about things that revolves in life and how it happens on reason. But, mostly this book talks about DP. In fact, this book talks about the experience of how the author dealt with the DP for her clients and some successful story of her clients.
At the end of the day, I gain nothing from this book because, I still do not understand the terms where the title claims to be: Thing DOES happen for a reason.

Even the editorial review of this book is misleading:
"If you've been wondering why you were born" <--- Mainly, in this book, the author mention we are here to learn, depending on what should be learn by each individual and nothing goes further describing about it.

I really think the author should start to think of a better name for her future book because obviously, the content of this book does not contain an enrich information about everything happens for a reason.

On a lighter notes, I do find some of the related stories told are pretty interesting. However, not enough to amuse me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Comforting
After reading many books by several empowering authors such as Betty Eadie, John Edward, Sylvia Browne, and Tiffany Snow, that I am still reading, my life has opened up to me in such a compelling and wonderful way. This new book is well written, and thought provoking. There are great transforming authors, who shift the consciousness of humankind in a way never known before, and have the courage to reveal their paranormal experiences. "Everything Happens" is one of these.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I just finished reading Suzane's latest book, Everything Happens For A Reason, and absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. Her writing style is easy, relaxed - as though I'm chatting with a dear friend over a cup of tea. Although this spirit connection/afterlife is something I've always believed in and indeed have had visits from my grandparents, son, and father, all of whom have crossed over, I found the book to validate my beliefs and touch my heart and soul. I cried at some places in the book. I smiled at others. I felt compassion and tenderness for the people's whose stories are illustrated within.

As with many people, I have experienced a great deal of loss in my life and I found this book to be comforting and reassuring. I have visited psychics since my divorce in 1984 and found a medium in my area in the past year and have visited him five times now - and intend to go again. My son passed tragically when he was 7 years old, my father passed four years ago, my grandparents passed through natural causes but they still remain with me and have appeared to me three times (once together, once each separately). I feel my son take my hand and smile up at me at the times I was deeply grieving a loss.

My therapist is a metaphysician and has channeled my son. The medium I see has channeled both my father and my son.

Most of my friends and acquaintances think I'm nuts and don't want to hear about it - but I know that this is real "stuff" and I thank people like Suzane who share their mediumship with the world and bring comfort to so many of us.

Thank you for this book, Suzane! I'm about to start your other book "Second Chance". I love your writing style and hope to one day attend one of your classes.

Brightest Blessings in Light, Love & Laughter,

2-0 out of 5 stars Should be titled "Another book on The Other Side"
The title of this book was very catchy and something I thought would be comforting in a time when things went horrible for me. I'd say about 70-80% of this book is about seances and "DP" (Dead People). I do admit I like 20% of the book only b/c that's what the book should've focused on...the fact that things do happen for a reason, only I wished the author emphasized on that more than she did. Sometimes Northrop kinda makes it seem like life is a destiny and at other times, life is but a free will. It's confusing. But overall, what she probably meant to say was our free will was how we determine our fate/destiny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything Happens for a Reason
I found this book to be easy to read and easy to understand. It opens the door for why things happen and how to deal with the situation. It is most comforting and the author makes you feel like you are there and she is talking to YOU. My only suggestion, please do books on tape so that this message can be heard by the blind, disabled, and the very busy person. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my life!
The Magic of Believing, by Claude M. Bristol was one of the best books I've ever read. A close friend of mine had an older copy of this book and lent it to me, after reading it, I had to purchase my own copy and have read it several times. After practicing the methods written in the book, I've seen significant changes in my life and those around me. Trust me, read it, learn it and practice it. I changed and so can you.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Magic of Believing" Claude Bristol
I first heard about "The Magic of Believing" in 1973,listening to Larry Glick's late-night talk show on WBZ Boston -- he was absolutely sold on it and kept bringing on celebrity guests who felt the same way, and I eventually bought a copy. I was skeptical going in, and for a while after - this was'nt the first self -help book I had read and not the most polished in style. But there was something about it -- the down-to-earth commonsense of the author I think (Bristol seems to have been above all a practical guy)-- that kept me reading it to the end. I started to do some of the mechanical things -- aids to visualization -- he suggested, figuring what the hell, what's to lose?. I decided the goal to set was to move up from my earnings at the time ($20k per year) to three times that amount -- virtually "impossible" where I was working. To cut to the chase. A year later I was making $80,000 per year, I kept doing better each year and I am still doing well. Things fell into place without any planning too many to relate. I gave up a salaried job I hated in order to free-lance but without any real prospects for doing well at it -- the idea was to tread water until I found something I liked better. But a first client appeared out of nowhere and referred me to another. Work kept coming in and did not stop. Every year I did better. I don't really know how it works, and I don't particularly care. I do know it worked for me -- and still does, and not just financially. So do I believe Bristol was on to something? You bet your life I do. I have also had a chance to observe other people for whom things seem to work out well, none of whom have read this book. They confirm one of its basic principles. People tend to get what they expect -- they fulfil their own prophecies. In general, optimists thrive, the pessimists don't. What this book shows is that these attitudes are not "givens" -- to an extent they can be self-generated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Just Read...try it and see
The application of the principles in this book can change you life. I heard about this book through an online egroup I belong to. I found an egroup dedicated to the study of this book and read about a number of people who had read the book and applied the principles. I have seen these principles work in my own life. Ironically, a six figure education is not likely to have given you the real knowledge of self outlined in this and similar books.

I recommend reading and applying the principles in this book with the short book "It Works" by RJH and "Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy. If you are interested in interacting with others who have applied these principles, do a search on yahoo groups using the title of the books and read some success stories.

Try it and see!

3-0 out of 5 stars Looking for more
I don't regret buying this book. It is motivational for sure. I was just dissapointed that it didn't give more details or steps on how to attain such powerful thinking. It is filled with LOTS of stories to prove that positive thinking works. It just doesn't tell you very clearly how to do it yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great read to reinforce your belief system!
If you love Think and Grow Rich, Believe and Achieve by Samuel Cypert and Og Mandino's books, then you're going to like this book. I've read this book and re-read the key passages several times, because this book helped me get out of a rut and on the fast track to success!

My only issue with my copy was that the type size was a little bit hard to read and hard to underline, but this book is great!

Book Description

In a refreshingly honest investigation of the true nature of love, don Miguel Ruiz brings to light the commonly held fallacies and misplaced expectations about love that permeate most relationships. In the tradition of Carlos Castaneda, he uses inspirational stories to impart the wisdom of three fundamental Toltec masteries (Awareness, Transformation, and Love). The themes explored include the Toltec wisdom of the heart, the track of love, and the war of control. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Some new insights into love and relationship.
How can anything new about love and relationship be written - hasn't it all been said? Mr. Ruiz manages to approach love and relationship with a perspective that is so fresh that it opened my eyes to new possibilities. The author reveals the differences between relationships based on love and those based on fear and gently guides the reader to recognize the symptoms when fear is shutting out the warmth and joy that is our birthright. Reading this book is invigorating - I came away excited to practice the author's principles - and I find myself less judgmental and more relaxed about my relationship with my husband. Buy this book - it is an insightful guide to a more satisfying relationships.

Another book that contains amazing insights into life is Working on Yourself Doesn't Work - by Ariel & Shya Kane. In this book, the Kanes describe three principles of transformation - they are simple but very potent and contain profound and original insights. Unconscious destructive behaviors and attitudes dissolve in an instant through awareness - a non-judgmental observing of what is. Reading this book resulted in some profound changes in my perceptions of who I was, and, as a result, my life circumstances began to shift - as if by magic. I don't know HOW it worked - only THAT it worked. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Find Love In Your Life
Don Miguel Ruiz is a wonderful writer with a huge heart. Just reading his ideas about love is enough to start feeling it in your own life. What I came to realize in reading his book was that you will only find people who are willing to love you as much as you love yourself. The easy conversational style of this book and the impact of Ruiz's empathy opened my eyes to the love that exists in the world around me, my relationships and my own self in a completely new, compassionate way. It really hit home with me that when you have self-love, your happiness cannot be compromised by external forces. This book fits perfectly with one of my other favorites: "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" by Ariel and Shya Kane. In the same way that reading Ruiz transmits the ideas of love on a deep level, reading the Kanes' book transmits awareness on a level where you really feel it and where it really impacts your life every day, every moment. These books are the medium by which powerful but abstract concepts are communicated beautifully. Like a modern day Buddha, Ruiz sheds illumination on some of the same truths I read about in "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work", but he does it from a different angle. He gives a refreshing perspective of love, what it means to love unconditionally, and how mastering love creates the exquisite life we all want to live. "The Mastery of Love" and "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" are both essential if you want to increase the feeling of love in your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars On the path of Love
Written poetically, almost in the manner of storytelling, this little book describes the magic that could happen to you and your relationship, should you choose to embark on the path of self awareness, a seeing without judging. The author poses the question: Are you on the path of Love or the path of Fear?

I recommend this book as being an eye opener, a little book that can put in perspective the way you are being in your life.

What helped me better grasp what the "Mastery of Love" was about is that I have read another book prior to this one. This other book that I recommend heartily is called "WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK" by Ariel & Shya Kane. It talks about awareness as the tool to living your life in the moment, and is written in a down to earth way, very usable in the modern world.

These books make great presents or stocking stuffers as they are easy to read, uplifting and very reasonably priced!

5-0 out of 5 stars Forgive Yourself
I have read all the books by Don Miguel Ruiz and have become a better person by practicing the teachings. Practicing is the key word here because the ideas seem simple but once you become aware you see situations in a new light. The use of 'not being hooked' has been the biggest help for me when dealing with situations. I eagerly wait to get each new book in this series. I also recommend Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life by JoAnna Carey for a week-by-week action guide to getting more of what you want out of life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical wisdom
This book, like the title says, is about the art of relationship. Don Miguel Ruiz's explanation as to how love can be is very inspiring. He also points out that it must start with love for yourself. That love is a fantastic experience, a devine experience, and not something to take for granted, to obtain through guilt, manipulation, etc. This book is relevant to all types of relationships .... friendship, spouse, children, other relatives. A very worth while read. ... Read more

Book Description

As elegant as his bestselling How to Know God and as practical as his phenomenal The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, this groundbreaking new book from Deepak Chopra contains a dramatic premise: Not only are everyday coincidences meaningful, they actually provide us with glimpses of the field of infinite possibilities that lies at the heart of all things. By gaining access to this wellspring of creation, we can literally rewrite our destinies in any way we wish.

From this realm of pure potential we are connected to everything that exists and everything that is yet to come. “Coincidences” can then be recognized as containing precious clues about particular facets of our lives that require our attention. As you become more aware of coincidences and their meanings, you begin to connect more and more with the underlying field of infinite possibilities. This is when the magic begins. This is when you achieve the spontaneous fulfillment of desire.

At a time when world events may leave us feeling especially insignificant and vulnerable, Deepak Chopra restores our awareness of the awesome powers within us. And through specific principles and exercises he provides the tools with which to create the magnificent, miraculous life that is our birthright.

2-0 out of 5 stars Try Another Book - This One is Flat
I agree (now) with the editorial review, but I had to see for myself, since I am a Chopra fan. Editor said "Although Chopra's theories are expressed in a confusing and repetitive manner, the techniques he advocates may prove interesting to those who enjoy his humanistic, if convoluted, approach to self-help." Yep.

There are better books on the market, including one I just finished from a NDE survivor who educates without the confusion, and theres two chapters on technique that humans can understand! Psychic Gifts in the Christian life by Tiffany Snow. Other books you should look at is the (not kidding) "Idiot" series, which lay a good foundation for several disciplines, like "Meditation for Idiots" or "Psychic Awareness for Idiots," etc. The Power of Coincidence is a bit flat. You expect an author to generate a shift in consciousness, and excitment and method of beneficial change. This book didn't do it. I hope his next one is better. I see him on TV, etc, and I know he's getting better at marketing, but what about the writing? Maybe he's just too busy now for us regular people. Where is the old Chopra I knew? I want him back!

5-0 out of 5 stars ENLIGHTENING!
I purchased this and the "Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield the same day. Great companions! The "Celestine" is a parable story of the stuff Deepok is speaking about. Each gives you a deeper understanding of the other. I purchased Deepok's on tape and listen to it in my car and the "Celestine" in bookform and therefore am studying both, slowly, together. This was not planned, but, may I say, a coincidence. These were the only two items I picked up in the bookstore that day, one audio and the other in bookform, perfect!

If you are concerned of Deepok's book being too dry, buy the "Celestine" first. If it sparks an interest, then go on to buy Deepok's for a deeper and more complete understanding of the why's, mechanics and science behind coincidences.

5-0 out of 5 stars A PERFECT fit ... for me.
No book is for everyone ... no book can reach every person in the infinite variety of lives we live. But THIS book was precisely what I was looking for when I found it. I've referred to it over and over and over again and it has proven to be of invaluable assistance to me as I've worked to change my life from the inside out.

As I first read the book, and was blown away by how perfectly it filled in the gaps in the picture of life that was forming within me, I also realized "this book isn't for everybody". Read the other reviews and follow your instincts. If it sounds like something that you've been searching for but haven't been able to find ... then I think you'll be delightfully pleased. If it sounds like smoke and mirrors to you, then look for something else. If you're in the mood for an apple, why eat an orange and blame the orange when you're done?

2-0 out of 5 stars I think it's flat too
Wayne Dyer is better(most of his books). Tiffany Snow is better (all of her books). Some of Chopra's earlier works are better. Many books are better than this, this one just repeats most of what we already know, so why bother?

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth reading
A worthy insight into probable meaning of daily happenings. It is absolutely fantastic. Dr. Chopra has done it again. It can change your thinking.........and your life. If you find the book flat (as an earlier reviewer did), all you need to do is actually read the book and you will find the treasure that it is. 5 stars all the way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Belief
"The Power of Belief" is a wonderful example of the Toltec adage, 'all tools, no rules'. In fact, "The Power of Belief" is an outline of transformation. It illustrates why most humans believe they "are not" and reveals the path to realizing "they are". The book begins with keys to recapturing the attention and goes on to explain the significance of our beliefs and finally how they can be changed. And speaking of tools, there is a whole section dedicated to them! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a burning desire to change their beliefs and improve their life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peaceful Soul
Never before have I read a book that was able to reach the very depths of my being, and at the same time give me the tools that are necessary for reaching my peaceful self. I now am more aware of the choices I make and why I am choosing to make them. Is it me or the BELIEF that I am listening to about the situation. This is a must read!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book
Ray's book is excellent. It serves as a clear, powerful and useful guide to helping overcome obstacles in any areas of our lives. A deeply insightful model of awareness and change, shared by an experienced mentor looking into the multilayered system of beliefs that form our life experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Light on the Journey
Thanks so much for the Power of Belief. I continue to explore my own beliefs and how these impact my life personally and in my work as coordinator of 10 coaches. I have recomended this work to friends and colleagues. Again, many thanks for your work. You have provided more light on the Journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovery
What a gift! This book gave me the ability to look deep inside of myself and to recognize what's really going on there from a totally different perspective. Once I identified what beliefs I had that were not serving me well, I was able to let go of those beliefs (with help from the book) and create new ones that I'm proud to call my own. I'm closer to my true self than I've ever been! This is a must read if you want to enrich your life and truly call it your own. ... Read more

Book Description

The knowledge that an unseen energy flowsthroughall living things and directly affects the quality of health has been part of the wisdomof many cultures since ancienttimes. The existence of this "life energy" has been verified by recent scientific experiments, andmedicaldoctors areconsidering theroleitplaysinthe functioning of the immune system and the healing process.

Reiki, a technique for stress reduction that also promotes healing, allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of "life energy." Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, early in the 20th Century. Reiki is easy to learn. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radience that flows through you and surrounds you. It creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. Many have reported miraculous results. Hospitals and doctors' offices are beginning to include it as part of their therapy, and this new edition describes several successful approaches now being used across the US to integrate Reiki into patient care.

This revised and expanded edition includes important new information on the theory and practice of Reiki, including the Japanese Reiki Techniques taught by Dr. Usui as well as the Hayashi healing guide. Also included are pictures of the Usui Memorial in Tokyo, and of Mt. Kurama where Reiki was rediscovered.

This book is a must for anyone wanting the latest information on Reiki. Its referenced history of Reiki contains the most detailed and verfiable information currently available. Written with inspiration, clarity and vitality, it captures the essence of Reiki and is an excellent introduction to the subject as well as a user-friendly manual for the experienced practitioner. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent course manual
I highly recommend this book to all Reiki Masters, and to those students who feel like their Reiki I and/or II training lacked depth and clarity. I have to disagree with the previous few reviewers who slammed the book for being too oriented towards the author's healing center. The book has pages and pages of diagrams of hand positions, both for self-treatment and the treatment of others, useful articles on how to develop your own Reiki practice, updated history on where Reiki comes from, a chapter on how to use the symbols (and very few books show the actual symbols, so if you want the symbols then buy the other books), as well as good general information on what Reiki is. It does have one chapter on the author's school of teaching, so you can just skip that chapter if it doesn't interest you. And it does have a "catalog" of items you can buy from his Center...but it is in the appendix where it belongs. And throughout the manual he stresses that Reiki is open to all and it isn't required that you go to his Center for training. He simply offers his Center as a resource if you want it. He also shares a list of related books that have nothing to do with him or his Center. This book is a valuable resource. Not a be-all/end-all for Reiki, but the best manual for Reiki I and II that you will find anywhere! I use it for my classes and I am not affiliated with the author or his Center. It is also not the only book on Reiki that I own. This is just a great place to get a strong foundation of information in a few pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for students, teachers and the curious
I find Reiki the Healing Touch by William Rand to be an indispensable tool in my teaching practice. I have been practicing Reiki for ten years and teaching Reiki classes all around the world for six years. The manual is written clearly, which makes it easy for beginning practitioners to understand this healing art, or to help those who are simply curious about Reiki to develop an awareness of how Reiki can be applied to their life. As a teacher, this manual is a lifesaver for me. It contains all the elements I need to provide instruction in Reiki levels I & II. This minimizes the necessity for students to do extensive note-taking, and allows them more time in class for experiential learning. Mr. Rand is well known for his investigative nature, and it is through his diligent research and networking with other dedicated Reiki Masters that new light was shed on the history of Reiki. This book includes a comprehensive and documented history section, that brings new light to Usui Sensei's true intent for the use of Reiki. It replaces some of the myth with factual historical information. The story of the author's personal journey to Usui Sensei's tomb and his experiences on the holy mountain of Kurama bring life to the history. The many uses for Reiki and the symbols are clearly explained, as well as what Reiki is and how it heals. The hand positions for treating self and others are well illustrated. The treatment documentation form included in the book is a useful tool for practitioners, and helpful for clients in understanding their healing process. There is also useful information on developing a Reiki practice and informative material on how Reiki is being used in hospitals. Reiki the Healing Touch, in this revised and expanded version, is a must for any serious Reiki practitioner or teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wealth of Information about Reiki
This book contains a very clear explanation of the hand positions and includes many useful and powerful Reiki techniques, including some of Usui's original techniques which were not passed down by Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to this country. The inclusion of recent research on the real history of Reiki, as opposed to the mythology which apparently has been taught in American Reiki circles, helps to set the record straight and adds to the credibility of Reiki and the book. Unfortunately, the book does not contain pictures of the Reiki symbols, which however can be seen in Diane Stein's Reiki book and in Diane Shewmaker's book on Seichim. While the book becomes too aggressively commercial at times in the promotion of William Rand's Reiki center, the author has a real connection to the loving, powerful energy of Reiki, and the book is well worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great explanation of the reiki techniques for healing
I have been a practitioner of Reiki for more than two years now. Still, I am amazed at how clearly the concepts of Reiki are explained in this book.

A must buy for any Reiki practitioner.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have Manifesting Book
I have read a large number of books on this topic (much of which I have put into practice and yielded results) but this manual is surely the foundation and bedrock of them all. Rather than implicitly requiring the reader "to have faith", Dr. Dyer explains the underlying principles of manifesting, then proceeds in a no-nonsense manner to outline the "how-to" of it all. It's simple and easy to follow, and above all, uplifting. Unlike other publications such as "Your Heart's Desire" by Sonia Choquette, which writes around the subject, Dr. Dyer encompasses both practical how-to together with a more spiritual aspect. There is no paradox between spirituality and wanting material things; both worlds go hand in hand together. A must-have book. (Other excellent accompaniments are "Creative Visualization" by Shakti Gawain, and "Living Magically" and "Stepping Into the Magic" by Gill Edwards.)

lofty, etherial or real "metafizzie" but it's
written in language anyone interested in self
growth and/or spirituality issues can easily
understand and put to use. The title is very
direct and to the point. If one follows these
principles and lives their life as Dr. Dyer
is encouraging and teaching, I am sure they
will find as I have, that their life is more
peaceful, that they understand more of their
"purpose" for being here, and that they have
a greater sense of control over their destiny
just as the title suggests. Bravo, Wayne.

3-0 out of 5 stars Finished Reading but Still dont know how to Manifest......
I bought the book because title attracted me & author was Wayne Dyer.I think this was dyers failed attempt. He is running short of ideas & still wanna write a book.

No new ideas.Same old Stuff.9 principles,Deatailed explaination But no exact idea of how to apply them together like a plan.

If we want something then how can we detach ourself from it.Its very difficult I think. If you are detached that means you relly dont want them.

God!I dont know what else to say.I gave three stars because there is something to read even if it is very little.

Better read Joe Vitale's Spiritual Marketing than this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Had a hard time with this one
Interesting part in the book was the part about how to meditate.
It may be a good way to work away stress in this very stressful society.

I still need more science. It seems Dyer is working too much from a strategic formula in his books rather than speaking from his heart. He would be better off speaking from his heart and talking about those who disagree with him. I wish he would express more emotion in his book..he always seems so "Spock-like"...and with Ben Stein type enthusiasm, I can only give Dr. Dyer two stars on this one. Hope your next books are more
ambitious, not just preaching to the new age crowd.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Guidebook to Success Based on Spiritual Principles
This is a "peak experience" book by this author. It shows how he has "arrived", succeeded in manifesting his destiny ... It is the culmination of all previous books written by Dr. Wayne Dwyer. He identifies the foundation of success by outlining and fusing basic principles from the Judeo-Christian perspective as well as Eastern religions and philosophies. The basics are 1) "becoming aware of your higher self". By recognizing one's connection between this world and the unseen world a person can transcend the limitations of the physical world and achieve personal goals, here and now. 2) "Trusting yourself is trusting in the wisdom that created you". In essence, to succeed and achieve anything starts with a belief and trust that it can be done. The corollaries to this are, admitting one's confusion and doubt, accepting that there is love and support because we are not alone but part of a higher divinity. Another principle is 3) recognizing the holographic nature of the universe, which means everyone is connected through the principle of consciousness and thought. Keeping one's desired manifestation secret allows less dispersal of one's personal energy to those who react and thereby direct one's energy elsewhere. Recognizing G-d's unconditional love frees a person up from becoming judgemental. You essentially become a compassionate witness to everyone and everything that is happening in your life. The source of creation is a loving peaceful energy, there is no need to force or apply pressure to this achievement. The practice of meditation is recommended to achieve harmony with the Spirit and Source of all things. He advocates the sounding of "om" in the evening and "ah" in the morning as standard rituals - highlighting that sound is the one energy in which we can participate. Dwyer states, "Sounds literally mold the abstract world of thought and spirit into shape." [p. 113, Harper Perennial, c. 1997]. He adds, "Keep in mind that sound is the vibrational frequency between the world of solid matter or form as we know it and the higher vibrational frequencies of the formless world of universal spirit." [p.114] Mental imagery of your desire is recommended to formulate that it is possible and already exists as real. One of the last principles is expressing gratitude and generosity after one has manifested one's desire. This last principle expands to a life of service on some level to share one's understanding, awareness, or achievement with humanity. This closes the circle of energy and love that we receive from Spirit and lets more of it manifest in the world.
This book is highly recommended. Erika Borsos (erikab93) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wonder*full booster of self-awareness
a dear friend of mine had placed power thought cards around her house during a difficult time--i found that when i was under her roof and looking at the affirmations, i was able to stay positive and be more supportive of her. they provided insight as to how she was feeling and what sorts of directions she wanted her thoughts to move i have them around my place for me.

they are also great conversation starters. (i.e. the one about 'creating a new job' really got friends and family asking questions!)

they are fun. positive. you can get out of them what you will. they are simple. beautiful. charming. they can bring a much needed boost of positive energy into houses, offices, rooms, mirrors, windows...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I totally agree with the other reviewers. These little cards are something you buy at least two of. One to keep and one to give to a friend. Very insightful and refreshing! They have a real positive inpact on the way you think and help you through even the worst day.

2-0 out of 5 stars not varied enough
Beautiful cards but the affirmations are not varied enough. Very repetitive and not inclusive of a variety of life situations. Gorgeous illustrations and sweet affirmations but many are very similar... could have used more diverse affirmations. See how I wrote these sentences? Four ways to say the same thing... the cards do exactly that. I prefer an inspirational book of wisdom by Taro Gold called "Open Your Mind Open Your Life," in which I've found more unique, varied, and motivational spiritual wisdom.

5-0 out of 5 stars We would be lost without these cards
Our college instructor has these cards!! Before an exam we all pull our cards for 'balance'. It's wonderful! We often pull the card of the day to keep the positive thoughts and flow in our day. Each card seems to say what we need to hear. It makes a difference how we teach ourselves to think. Just that few seconds it takes to draw and read a card can make a big difference in the tone of your day or for that matter how I take a test! I do highly recommed them! I know several of the students, including me, bought our own set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too childish & hard to read
These 2-sided cards have a lot of good inspirational sayings but the illustrations, although colorful, were distracting with handwritten script writing which was very childlike.

If you're looking for beautifully illustrated cards that are easy to read I recommend Cheryl Richardson's "Self-care Cards" which are very thought provoking & inspirational.

Louise Hay's other cards for affirmations were better illustrated & more specific. You can order affirmations for a specific area of your life you want to improve - wealth, romance, self-esteem (more positive about life in general), forgiveness (self-esteem based), job sucess & wisdom. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Question
I gave it 3 stars not having read it - sorry, but I have a question. If Jane knew all of this about health, etc. from ALL the information she had received from Seth over all those years, why did she die from an illness? This almost makes it seem hopeless that the rest of us could make it work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Is this really Seth?
Serious students of the Seth philosophy are bound to be disappointed with this final work. Although most of the material is consistent with Seth's previous works, The Way Toward Health contains nothing that has not been far better expressed in other Seth books. Indeed, the book's surprisingly poor quality led me at times to wonder whether or not it is authentic Seth. For instance, all of the other Seth books are characterized by an extraordinary depth and complexity of language--they are elegant, brilliant, wise, and written in a beautiful and intellectually engaging style. The language of Health is by contrast simplistic and even trite. The disappointing quality of this work may be due to the fact that it was written during the final stages of Jane's illness. Not only was she very ill and weak, but she seems to have been taking medication for her symptoms. This (or perhaps other factors) may have led to distortions in the material. The book is of interest for the insight it yields into Jane's inability to apply the Seth principles in her own life. But those looking for further guidance from Seth would do well to return to the major works he produced during Jane's golden years.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Eventual Best Seller
I too read the manuscript in its original form, typewritten in upper case with Seth's dictation frequently interrupted by Rob Butt's notes on his wife's hospitalized condition -- interrupted sometimes every few sentences, as a nurse would come in to take Jane's temperature.

I was one of the correspondents who encouraged Rob often to see that it got published. Grief and perhaps shame kept him from pursuing it, as well as Jane's dying wish that he organize and publish as much of the staggering amount of material produced over those twenty years as he could.

Before I read that manuscript, I didn't imagine it would hold my interest much; although a long-time fan, my usual good health made the subject altogether less interesting than others.

Yet I found it the most absorbing reading of all the Seth books, from opinions on religion to current mass health problems to suggestions for individual well-being.

The italicized interruptions can require a little patience. However, it is Rob's most honorable intention to present his notes as an utterly realistic illustration of two people who dealt in all honesty with the ideas Seth put forth. The notes tell a frank and real account -- how Seth's suggestions were used, and how they were ignored. For that reason they are of high value to those who choose to try out Seth's suggestions themselves. I recommend it to those ailing for that reason.

The sweeping, expansive ideas put forth in the Seth books are slowly, naturally working their way into social thought through their creative personal applications in one way or another by thoughtful individuals. This last book will prove to be most effective the same way. One by one, individuals will find successes using the suggestions in ways the authors Jane Roberts and Robert Butts did not. It will eventually generate great popularity that way.

5-0 out of 5 stars A most important view of how humans "do" it.
I had the manuscript of this work long before its publication....and have poured over it for some time, wondering if it ever would be published it its entirity. I feared that only the Seth portions would reach the public.

The Jane/Rob relationship, so minutely detailed is probably the most important part of the work. That we humans "do" it, even though some part of our consciousness may know a different route. Paths chosen, pain and all, are of our own choosing. Jane's illness was of her creation, just as her writing was. And Rob was there to be the scibe for it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jane's last year in hospital with comments from Seth
This book describes Jane's last year in hospital. It's termed a Seth-Book, which is technically correct, but it's as well a book from Robert (Jane's husband). Seth readers are familiar with the Italics, and the main body of this book is actually Italics. The Seth material in it is very good indeed, but most of it can be found scattered across his other work as well. However, in no other book did Robert/Jane allow the reader to come as close to their lives as in this one. I normally just skim the Italics, but here they just sucked me in. Seth occasionally uses the word "drama" in his other books -- this book simply is DRAMA PUT ALIVE. The actual book dictation is about 1/3 or 1/4 of the book, then there's about 1/4 Seth comments to Robert/Jane's current situation and the rest is Italics. The mixture makes this book very powerful and very moving. This book actually makes me think about going to Yale University to study more of the private sessions.

Not recommended if you don't at least know two or three other Jane Roberts/Seth books.

Also, I'm not sure if I would recommend it if you are currently dealing with (own) health problems.

However, an EXCELLENT source of material if you are dealing with healing other people (being a nurse, a doctor or just a healer by intent). ... Read more
