Book Description

Meet three people with a little something special whose love lives are about to turn wild, crazy, sensual, and oh-so-hot. Blame it on the moon? Sure. But who’s complaining, anyway…

Once in a Blue Moon by Lori Foster

It’s all because of that stupid blue moon. That’s what Stan Tucker thinks as he walks through Delicious, Ohio, suddenly privy to everyone’s innermost thoughts, a gift courtesy of a rare blue moon. What most people have on their minds is boring—grocery lists, work woes, appointments. But not Jenna Rowan’s super-private thoughts. The pretty, shy bookstore owner is having decidedly hot thoughts about Stan…naked, sweaty, not-for-primetime thoughts. Stan’s lusted after Jenna for ages, but he never thought the proper lady was interested. Now that he knows, he intends to do something about it, and this time, he won’t be the only one howling at the moon…

Moon Magnetism by Lucy Monroe

Ivy Kendall dreads the full moon. For generations, women in her family have been extremely magnetic on that day—which was fine fifty years ago but not in the age of hard drives and cell phones. That’s why the hotel manager has resisted the technological improvements her boss wants her to implement. Now, the sexy, dynamic Blake Hawthorne is coming to insist on the upgrades in person. Shoot, he’ll probably fire her. Being around Blake makes her body go as haywire as a full moon, maybe even more. And as long as she’s going to be out of a job soon, there’s no reason not to use a little of that magnetism to her advantage, luring him into an elevator where the only electricity that will work is the kind they generate themselves…

Moonstruck by Dianne Castell

For years, Julia Simon has had the worst luck, married to a man who cheated on her left, right, and center. Now, the pretty divorcee is ready for her luck to change, and it is…big time. Ever since she unknowingly performed a Blue Moon ritual, Julia’s wishes seem to be coming true. So why not wish for wild, unbridled passionate sex with hunky P.I. Marc Adams? Well, because when it happens, it’s so amazingly good, that’s why. Now, with the blue moon due to end in three days’ time, Julia can only wonder if it’s just a spell or the start of a whole new life…

Be careful of wishful thinking. It just might get you everything… ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read.
If you have never read an anthology, then this is a great first one. Three absolutely terrific stories by three great authors. The premise of different things that can and do happen during a blue moon is awesome. We all know that strange things happen during a full moon and that's what happens here except it's a blue moon so that just gives it a little more kick. Lori Foster's story has a hero who can read minds and or hear people's thoughts, that is made stronger by the blue moon so he is able to read the mind of the shy bookstore owner and finds out that she is having fantasies just as hot as his have been about her. Lucy Monroe's about a heroine who is very magnetic and who's magnetism becomes even stronger with the blue moon tries to explain to her boss why she has been resisting upgrading the hotel where she works. How they work things out is a fun and sensuous read. Dianne Castell's story about a divorcee who needs a change of luck get's it when she inadvertently does a Blue Moon ritual and suddenly her wishes start to come true. When she wishes for some wild, steamy sex with the handsome PI who helped with her divorce, she gets a bit more than she thought she would. With the waning of the blue moon she's wondering if she'll lose what she's just found, or if it might lead to forever. All of these stories made me smile, I only have one complaint. I want more:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful Read
The second full moon in any month is known as a Blue Moon, this delightful triligy of stories tells of three people who have very unsettling things happen to them on the Blue Moon. They all live in Delicious Ohio.

Lori Foster tells us about Stan Tucker who can hear others thoughts on the blue moon. For Stan this blue moon brings the good and the bad. The good is Stan now knows that Jenna Rowen has thoughts just as hot as his. For six months he has had a yen for Jenna but she seems very cool and collected as she runs her book shop. She has never in any way indicated she sees him as anything but a customer. With his new power he decides to go for what he wants and that brings us to the bad. How is he to explain his sudden hot desire for her? Will she believe him? And if she believes him will she want a man who can read her mind every blue moon?

Lucy Monroe tells us about Ivy Kendall who becomes a walking disaster every blue moon. She is so magnetic that she blows the circuits in all the technology she comes in contact with. Wouldn't you know her boss, Blake Hawthorne has decided to upgrade the B&B she manages. He arrives at the worst time on a blue moon to inform her of the changes. But it seems Ivy is not only magnetic enough to blow fuses in computers she is magnetic enough to attract Blake's attention. He is the CEO of a megaconglomerate that depends on technology. How can these two people get togather when her power will stop his business every blue moon?

Dianne Castell brings us Julia Simon who has just divorced her lying cheating low-life of a husband. Julia doesn't realize it is a blue moon and she throws a quarter over her shoulder into a fountain at pricisely noon. Suddenly her wishes are coming true, especially the one about Marc Adams. The investigator who got the goods on her cheatin hubby. Now her only problem is will he still be hot for her when the blue moon is over? And she has already made several disasterous wishes before she realizes what is happening.

These three stories made me laugh and there is nothing like a good hot romance. Go for it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute
I do appreciate the way these three talented writers converged to create these very entertaining stories from a single theme. All three tales flowed together seamlessly; at no time was I confused.I usually take my romantic fiction much steamier, but otherwise, I enjoyed reading this book, and I am confident you will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars STAR QUALITY SHINES WITH THREE SEXY, FUNNY NOVELLAS
Star Quality, a Kensington Brava May release, offers a trio of novellas featuring heroes and heroines whose love lives are manipulated by a playful blue moon.Set in the fictitious small town of Delicious, Ohio, these short stories combine sensual love scenes, charming comedy, and a pinch of the paranormal for an out-of-this-world read. The hero of Lori Foster's "Once in a Blue Moon" can read people's minds whenever the moon is full.Things really heat up when he discovers a woman he burns for is having X-rated thoughts about him.The hotel manager heroine in Lucy Monroe's "Moon Magnetism" has a little problem with technology - every full moon her body becomes so magnetic she erases hard drives and kills cell phones. When her hunky boss arrives with plans to upgrade the inn with state-of-the-art equipment, she's forced to quit to avoid damaging his investment. And since she's going to be out of a job anyway, the heroine decides to indulge in the animal magnetism she experiences with her ex-boss.Dianne Castell's funny "Moonstruck" explores what happens when a newly divorced woman has the chance to make her dreams come true. Before she realizes the full moon is granting her spoken wishes, the heroine has a hard-body P.I. warm-for-her-form, a friend who's about to turn over her life savings to a jerk , and an ex-husband who is falling into fountains and snorting like a pig.Throw in a couple passionate interludes, and there's something for everyone in this wonderful novella.

Several of the heroines in this fun anthology are 40-ish, which is refreshing after the multitude of twenty-something heroines who people most romances.I visited Castell's Web site (www.diannecastell.com) and noticed she is coming out with a "Forty and Fabulous" series for Harlequin American. And I heard that Harlequin is launching a line called "Next," featuring more mature heroines.I applaud this trend and highly recommend Star Quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll Be Moon Struck For Sure!!!
I've said once and I'll say it again. If you are in the market for a good anthology look no further than Brava and their popular reads! This book is no different and the combined talent of Lori Foster, Lucy Monroe, and Dianne Castell will have the reader wanting to pack their bags for Delicious, Ohio and the yummy hero's that can be found there!

In Lori Foster's "Once In A Blue Moon" Gardner Stan Tucker has a problem that he has left Chicago over. When there's a full moon he can hear the thoughts of others. This is more than he can handle when sexy bookstore owner Jenna Rowan's over active mind screams her deep dark desire...for Stan. Will he be able to convince Jenna that he wants her as much if not more and that it's not the moon's magic?

Lucy Monroe's "Moon Magmetism" is the story of Ivy Kendell manager of the one inn in Delicious, Ohio. Her problems start during the full-moon as she has a rather unique affect on electronic equipment. There is no way she can work in a computer driven inn and when handsome, and sexy Blake Hawthorne shows up in order to convince her to update the inn he is taught a very important lesson in magmetism. But, he's not the only one to teach a lesson. Will he be able to convince Ivy that he wants her no matter the affect of the moon?

Dianne Castell's "Moonstruck" is the story of recently divorced Julia Simon. She has the worst luck ever and not the best taste in men.Her ex-husband cheated on her while she stayed home and was a good wife.Well, she is in the market for her luck to change and after a wish and a ritual her wish comes true in the form of Marc Adams. But will her luck change again once the Blue Moon is gone?

All three stories were wonderfully fun and sensual. There was not a stinker in the bunch.Although the stories were short they were well told and well crafted. This was the first time I've read Ms. Castell and I look forward to picking her reads up again in the future. It goes without say that Ms. Foster and Ms. Monroe can tell a story that will have you fanning yourself.I highly recommend that you pick up this book. You won't be disappointed.Only well entertained. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Feehan's was the best
I bought this anthology for Christine Feehan's Dark Dream, and after reading was glad I did. The story introduced us to a new point in Carpathian history -- hopefully catapulting us away from the quickly-getting-tired vampire-oriented stories of the rest of the series. The characters themselves were lacking the "fire" between characters like Jaques and Shea and Julian and Desari, but I think that most of the faults of this book were due to the length requirements that Ms. Feehan had to contend with. Truth be told, I believe that this story deserved a full novel of its own. Falcon was wonderful, though. It also had the added plot bonus of involving old friends, Jacques, Shea, Mikhail and Raven.
I hope that Ms. Feehan continues on this new plot trend, but gets back to her pre-Fire characterization with the next novel in the series.

The other stories were good. I can't say that I remember reading Amanda Ashley's offering, but then, I've read all of her vampire books before, and I've *never* been able to remember anything about them. *shrug*

Rhonda Thompson's offering was good, but I didn't like the ending that much. I like paranormal romance, and I don't care if everyone ends up a "monster." The story itself is very sensual, and the characters are very human and likable. The hero is torn about his existence (nice to see in a werewolf romance) but the whole tone of the story is pretty dark. I see how the ending was necessary, given the nature of the curse, I just found myself wishing it wasn't. It seemed almost gimmicky at the end, instead of having a high dramatic quality that I'm sure the author intended. I'm also looking forward to finding the sure-to-be-released sequel to this story!

5-0 out of 5 stars A stunning paranormal anthology
Masquerade by Amanda Ashley (originally published 1994)

Jason Blackthorne is the stuff of nightmares...and fantasies. He is a vampire, doomed to an eternity of darkness and feeding on human blood to survive, until he meets Leanne, the sunshine to his darkness. She is a singer/dancer, to whom Jason finds himself inexplicably drawn. From the moment Leanne meets him, she is convinced he is the man she has waited for her whole life. But Jason is terrified to reveal his secret; convinced Leanne would be repulsed by the truth. Will they overcome the curse binding him to a lonely darkness forever, to be together?

Ms. Ashley writes another stunning vampire tale. Her characters come alive, in spite of the novella length of the story. One will feel the agony of Jason's lonely life, along with him, as well as the bittersweet joy he finds in Leanne; and will be cheering them on to a happy ever after. But be forewarned, reading this tale will give the reader great desire to listen to Phantom of the Opera.

Dark Dream by Christine Feehan

Falcon is an ancient Carpathian, sent out by his prince Vladimir, over 1000 years ago, to hunt the evil vampires. He has been alone and without a lifemate for so long, he is in danger of turning vampire himself. Falcon decides to return to his home in the Carpathian Mountains one final time to see his new prince, Mikhail, and the Prince's once human lifemate, Raven, before destroying himself by meeting the dawn. In the last leg of his journey, he meets Sara Marten and is shocked to discover she is his lifemate. Sara discovered an ancient diary many years ago, which drew her for some unknown reason, to a mysterious dream man. She has since been running from the vampire that murdered her family She is surprised to meet this dream man in the flesh... at first mistaking him for the vampire she has been eluding for the past 15 years. Sara is therefore not surprised to discover his secret. But before they can be happy, they must defeat the vampire, enlisting the aid of Falcon's Prince Mikhail, his brother Jacques, and their lifemates, Raven and Shea. Will they conquer this evil nemesis to find eternal love?

Ms. Feehan has done it again! She has created incredible characters, who will live on in memory long after the story is finished. Her best-selling Dark saga only improves with age and each new tale. This novella is every bit as fulfilling as one of her full-length novels. This is not a story to be missed.

Midnight Serenade by Ronda Thompson

Rick Donavan is a country veterinarian, who lives in isolation, separating himself from everyone. For he suffers an ancient curse, having been bitten by a werewolf and becoming one himself. Stephanie Shane is a wildlife advocate, who is trying to build up support for wolves in the wild, trying to make all aware of their importance and beauty. She has been tracking a wolf pack and happens upon some farmers trying to kill a wolf, but only succeeding in wounding him. She is bitten as she tries to help the wolf with its injuries, before it runs off. She follows the injured wolf's trail right through the door or Rick's home. He fascinates Stephanie, despite his trying to discourage her from her mission. Rick is also attracted to her, sensing some pull between them. However, he now fears he may have passed his curse on to Stephanie, and decides he must save her from it. Will they defeat the odds to be together? Or are they doomed from the start?

This is Ms. Thompson's debut in the paranormal genre and she does not disappoint. Hers is an impressive addition to this book, featuring two of the most world-renowned paranormal romance authors. This story is fast paced and never slows down. The characters are very well drawn and will be memorable. This reviewer hopes Ms. Thompson's first foray into the paranormal is not her last.

AFTER TWILIGHT is a more than satisfactory book to be read during the Halloween season, or any time of the year. All three stories are ones to be savored over and over again. Run out and buy a copy today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could NOT Put this one Down!
This is my first time reading Amanda Ashley & Rhonda Thomson, but definitely not my last! Both are now that greatest of all finds--new favorite authors! I can't remember the last time I read a collection of short stories, but I wanted to sample these authors in hopes of finding more paranormal romances to enjoy. I'm new to this genre, the closest I came was Rice's vampire series, now seen as incomparable in excitement, sensuality, and satisfaction. I've seen the future & it's not Rice or her Lestat.

Thomson's Werewolf story is the most believable, moving and romantic of its type, unique as incredible as that seems, for this wolf-man is almost too human, & sexy is an understatement. I may never go back to mere human romances again. I hope this author keeps her unique edge and continues to breathe life into such marvelous character-driven stories.

Amanda Ashley creates a female antagonist, Leanne, who is a bit too incredible & perfect to believe in fully, plus annoyingly reluctant one minute, accepting too much too soon the next. Jason, not an imaginative name for a vampire from Europe, & Leanne go back & forth constantly--vowing to never see each other again, only to fall back into each other's arms repeatedly--a tiring plot design of crisis & fulfillment that keeps irritatingly interrupting the reader's escape into the story. This seems a lazy, template-driven way to create tension to me. Still, this is a sensual fantasy fairy tale that will satisfy almost any appetite, though the climax may seem effortful once it's over. Ashley delivers on her promises predictably--I'm still hoping to find an author who will surprise me with an unpredictable ending in this genre. I will peek at Ashley's other paranormals to see if she's a worthy new favorite author to explore fully.

Feehan satisfies completely with another fantastic book from her "Dark" series. Dark Dreams features a powerful ancient Carpathian guardian of his people, about to walk into the sun & end his existence. He has given up in his search of the Light lifemate who could save him from becoming the very evil he hunts & destroys. Same exact plot, just different names and details. We get exactly what we expect in Feehan's Dark series, and the climactic moment, while even thrilling at times & eventually satisfying, gets as stale as monogamy in a loveless marriage after awhile. What makes up for that predictability is Feehan's expert character development which makes us care about & love them like we would a chosen family. The humor is perfectly blended and laugh-out-loud hilarious. The romance & sensuality more fulfilling, detailed & REAL than any other in this genre. Still, the laziest phrase authors use in ALL of these novels, though gratefully Feehan uses it less than most, "he deepens the kiss", turns me off like a cold shower. Please authors & EDITORS, delete that phrase from your stories--it adds nothing to our knowledge of the characters or story, and is just unnecessary sloth.

It is exciting to read each author's different idea of what would make mythic monsters romantic and acceptable to the human characters & readers alike. I'm addicted to this new-for-me genre because these authors DO make suspending reality fairly easy, an escape sorely needed in today's world of human monster's with no morals. Here instead, we are confronted with morally good creatures traditionally seen as monsters that are anything BUT. Thanks to these three authors for introducing me to a new source of pleasure--short novel length stories packed into a single-book bargain. I look forward to filling my selves with more books from all three! Like those potato chips we can't eat just one of, these stories are irresistable.

2-0 out of 5 stars Two stories okay, one very poor - not a keeper
If you like vampire romances - as I do - you might think that this book is worth buying; after all, it offers three different vampire-type romances from different authors. But, as with all anthologies, quality varies and in the end it's not worth the purchase price.

Amanda Ashley's Masquerade is better than a number of her longer novels, though it contains yet another tortured vampire who tries to give up the woman he loves because he won't 'subject' her to what he is. Jason loves Leanne, but has only approached her because she was in danger. He can't resist spending some time with her, but he knows that it's only a matter of time before he must send her away for her own good. Anyone who's read any of Ashley's novels will know how the story goes. What set this one apart for me was the allegory with the Phantom of the Opera musical. Ashley draws comparisons between 'Phantom' and Jason's existence as a vampire. Enjoyable - perhaps 3 stars.

It's really unfortunate that the longest story in this anthology was also by far the worst. Christine Feehan's Dark Dream was appallingly bad. The protagonists meet and 'fall in love' in the space of about an hour, right at the start of the book. Oh, sure, Sara is scared of Falcon at first because she thinks he's a vampire (he isn't; he's some sort of weird sub-vampiric species Feehan has invented for her books, which I've never read); but within seconds she 'sees' into his eyes and she 'knows' him as someone she's known in her dreams for years. And then they're apart for the vast majority of this 150-page novella. The rest of the story is a vampire hunt: it's violent and ugly and unutterably boring. There was far too little interaction between the protagonists, and I wasn't convinced that they were in love. Oh, and just how many times does Falcon have to 'exchange' with Sara before she's converted?! Awful.

Finally, Rhonda Thompson's Midnight Serenade is somewhat different: Rick is a werewolf, and Stephanie is an environmentalist whose job is studying and filming wolves in the wild. This story felt rushed; I would have liked to know much more about how Rick became a werewolf, and I would also have liked to see the protagonists get to know each other better - it was more like falling in lust than in love.

Overall, this isn't a collection I'd read again.

4-0 out of 5 stars All three stories are reprints
All three of these stories are reprints. They have all been previously published as e-books by Loose-id.They are good stories.

I enjoyed Anglea Knights "Stranded" best.Of course, i'm a big AK fan and enjoy almost all her work.

MaryJanice Davidson's "Beggarman, Thief" was lighthearted fun.

Camille Anthony's "Light on Her Feet" is actually a sequel to "Swept off Her Feet" published by Elloras Cave.I think the story makes a lot more sense if you have read the first book.

While I enjoyed all these stories, I, in fact, own all of them as e-books.I was very disappointed that nowhere was there any warning that these stories have been previously published.

So...if you haven't already read them, and you like your alpha males, you will probably enjoy these stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Romance at the Edge
Summary - Beggarman, Thief by MaryJanice Davidson:He's human - Barely. She's a thief, and rumor has it she's insane. She tries to take something that's his, so he'll take her.For three days. After all, a deal's a deal.

Comment - I really like MaryJanice Davidson's books & I was so happy when Beggarman, Thief became available in print format (I don't like reading e-books).It's a great story & I hated to see it end.

Summary - Stranded by Angela Knight:Hawke, a Dominant soldier, demands repayment for rescuing Alex from certain death at the jaws of a giant saurian.Alex secretly craves domination. Now she has to submit to Hawke...or else.

Comment - I was happily surprised by the Angela Knight story. Her stories are usually hit or miss with me - I either like it or hate it.I enjoyed Stranded a lot.

Summary - Light on Her Toes by Camille Anthony:Dohsan wants D'ari, and D'ari wants Dohsan. One must submit, but neither wants to.It's the age old battle between the sexes, with a heated alien twist.Publisher's Note: For the convenience of our readers, Light on her Toes contains a glossary at the end of the book.

Comment - Light on her Toes was a total miss for me.I couldn't get pass the alien words.

5-0 out of 5 stars just short of perfection
This was the first thing I've read by Camille Anthony. While I was put off, at first, by the use of so much alien language, my biggest complaint is that it left me wanting more.I definately plan to find more of her writing. As for Angela Knight's story, I think it should come with a warning...If you're offended by BDSM: this is NOT the story for you.If, like me, you read Ann Rice's Sleeping Beauty Series until the covers wore out, you will LOVE this one. Seriously, I took away a star for the alien jargon in Ms. Anthony's story and still gave the book 5 because I gave Angela Knight's 6. WOW. I don't have much to say about Mary Janice Davidson's story. It was typical for her:sweet & hilarious.I actually thought, while reading it, "if this woman wrote a math text book, I'd read it". My only complaint about her story is that I read it at work & my coworker kept giving me looks because I was giggling so much.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Spectacular Groupof Writers
If you like hot, steamy stories set in the future, be sure to pick up this anthology. Knight and Davidson are well-known to many print readers for their ability to weave sensual tales and they don't disappoint in Romance at the Edge. Camille Anthony may be a newcomer to some, but she has been wowing the ebook community for sometime, and this tale is no different.
For a fun, sexy, over the top and out of this world story, do yourself a favor and pick up Romance at the Edge. You'll thank yourself in the morning. ... Read more

For those who like the Grinch more before his transformation by the Whos down in Whoville, and those who don't automatically think of George Bailey's encounter with the angel in It's a Wonderful Life every time they hear a bell ring during the Christmas season, New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts, writing as J.D. Robb, has teamed with three other gifted writers of romantic suspense to produce four intriguing tales of holiday upheaval. Claire Cross's "A Berry Merry Christmas" sends Holly Berry, a technophobic elf, to spread a little Christmas cheer to orphaned Natalie Sinclair and her Uncle Drew. When Natalie requests a new mommy for Christmas, little does Holly suspect she's the ideal candidate to fill the role--and to become a loving wife to Drew, who finds himself believing once again in the magic of Christmas. Only Santa Claus--"Mr. C" to Holly--can make all their dreams come true.

In Dee Holmes's "The Unexpected Gift," Sabrina McKay is spending her first Christmas since her divorce alone in Pine Falls, Vermont, with her young son. She finds the best gift of all not under her Christmas tree but passed out cold in her front yard. Investigating her son's report that "there's a dead man in the yard," Sabrina discovers former bad boy--and her girlhood boyfriend--Zach Danforth. Together again, they realize the true meaning of Christmas and the rediscovery of a love never lost.

Jake Rimsa discovers that the packaging doesn't reveal the true value of the gift inside in Susan Plunkett's Christmas Promises. Roped into giving Marne York, his ex-fiancée, a ride home for Christmas, Jake finds little evidence of the polished, pampered, starry-eyed young woman he left behind when he joined the FBI. Instead Marne has become a fierce advocate on behalf of battered women and a woman who has learned, in the most horrifying way possible, to take care of herself. And Jake uncovers in Marne the long-buried passion she believed forever dead. Together they seek a foe determined to make Marne pay for her interference, and they find the greatest gift of all--love between equals.

In the final story, only Nora Roberts can combine Christmas and an escaped serial killer with a grudge and still make it sizzle!Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in Midnight in Death. When her first Christmas with her new husband Roarke is interrupted by reports of the naked, mutilated body of the judge responsible for convicting serial killer David Palmer, Eve learns that her name appears on the list of others to be killed. Since she was responsible for arresting Palmer the first time, Eve is back on the case. But Roarke is on her case, exhorting Eve to join him under the mistletoe for a little Yuletide cheer and to let him bring his considerable connections to bear to locate the hiding place of the monster threatening their happiness. Together they capture the psychopath and the spirit of Christmas. What a way to start the new year! --Alison Trinkle ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent Night...Midnight in Death
J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) and three other writers (Claire Cross, Dee Holmes and Susan Plunkett) make up the four stories in Silent Night. I bought the book for the J.D. Robb Midnight in Death story although the other three weren't bad either. Of course, all the stories were centered on the theme of Christmas and the holidays.

A Berry Merry Christmas, by Claire Cross, is about an orphan, Natalie Sinclair and her Uncle Drew. Natalie wishes for a new mother for Christmas and Holly Berry turns out to be the one to fill that role. The Unexpected Gift, by Dee Holmes, Sabrina McKay is having her first Christmas after her divorce with her young son. Her son finds what he thinks is a dead man in the yard but who turns out to be a girlhood boyfriend of Sabrina's, Zach Danforth. Predictably, they fall in love and have a wonderful Christmas

Christmas Promises, by Susan Plunkett, has Jake Rimsa giving his ex-fiancée, Marne York, a ride home for Christmas. Marne has become an of battered women and has changed much from the woman that Jake once knew. Jake and Marne renew their love and it's better then it had been before as they come to know each other again.

Midnight in Death, by J.D. Robb, Eve and Roarke's first Christmas together as husband and wife is interrupted by the discovery of the naked, mutilated body of the judge responsible for convicting serial killer David Palmer. Since Eve was the officer that brought down David Palmer, her name is on a list of those to be killed. This was the best story in the book and continues the "in Death" series with all the characters that are in the full-length books of the series. Of course, with Roarke's help, Eve finds the escaped murderer and wraps up the case.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo JD Robb!
MIDNIGHT IN DEATH was execllent and packed a lot of adventure into a few pages. This was the best story in the book (and the reason I bought it in the first place)... I will re-read it as is my habit when I re-read all the JD Robb books when her next one comes out.

As for the other three stories: I liked THE UNEXPECTED GIFT and CHRISTMAS PROMISES enough that I will probably re-read them next Christmas when I'm in a mushy mood. A BERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS was a nice fluff piece, but I probably won't re-read it.

The five-star rating is based on the JD Robb section alone.

THE UNEXPECTED GIFT ****

CHRISTMAS PROMISES ***1/2

A BERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS *1/2

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Anthology!
"Silent Night" is a truly superior anthology, containing four entertaining tales of romance at Christmas. The stories run from light romance to dark romantic suspense, and all four will keep you turning pages.

First is Claire Cross' "A Berry Merry Christmas". This is a sweet tale of a North Pole elf named Holly Berry who just doesn't fit in, so she is sent on a special mission to fulfill an orphan's Christmas wish. Holly is hired as nanny for the orphaned Natalie, who wrote to Santa asking for a wife for her "Unca Drew" so she could have a mommy. Unbeknownst to Holly, she is the perfect woman for the job, and Natalie's Uncle Drew is starting to agree. This is a truly lovely, fanciful story that will have you believing in magic!

Dee Holmes' "The Unexpected Gift" is by far the weakest story in this anthology, although it is still enjoyable. Sabrina McKay and her young son are having their first Christmas since Sabrina's divorce. Sabrina's son finds what he believes is a body in the front yard, but who turns out to be Sabrina's high school boyfriend, Zach Danforth. Spending time in each other's company rekindles the flame between Sabrina and Zach, and together they find the true meaning of Christmas. The problem with this story is that nothing really happens in it - there is no real conflict, no suspense, no nothing. It is, however, a sweet story about the true spirit of Christmas.

Third is Susan Plunkett's "Christmas Promises", which is a really excellent story. FBI Agent Jake Rimsa reunites with his ex-fiancé, Marne York on their way to a shared Christmas celebration. Marne has changed dramatically from the rich, pampered girl Jake remembers into a fierce advocate of abused women. When Marne is suddenly enlisted to help find a missing child, their holiday plans are put on hold. As these two work together, it becomes painfully clear that Jack and Marne never stopped loving each other, but Marne is carrying around a painful secret that ended their engagement 4 years earlier and may destroy their chances for happiness now. Marne and Jake are very well developed and intriguing characters, and the plot of this short story is fresh and exciting and will keep you turning pages.

Saving the best for last, we have J.D. Robb's "Midnight in Death" which is fantastic. We catch up with Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD as her Christmas is interrupted by murder. Serial killer David Palmer, who Eve caught and locked away three years earlier has escaped, and is out for revenge against everyone who put him away, especially Eve. He has already killed the judge who sentenced him, and Eve goes into overdrive trying to catch this madman before he gets to the other people on his hit list. Eve's sexy billionaire husband Roarke is right by her side, helping with the case and keeping his 'Darling Eve' safe. Eve and Roarke's romance is as hot and passionate as ever, and their scenes together will all but steam up your windows! Robb has created a fully developed story in less than 100 pages that is thrilling, original and full of heart-pounding passion. This is most definitely the best story in this anthology, and is worth the price of this book all by itself. "Midnight in Death" is a wonderful and worthy addition to the "In Death" series.

Overall, I thought this anthology was great. It is full of the spirit of Christmas, although it can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Don't miss out on this one, it's fun, romantic, and well worth the read!

5-0 out of 5 stars 4 Great Stories!
I read this book for Midnight in Death by J. D. Robb. That story was just as intense and suspenseful in a third of the pages. Eve doesn't even get Christmas off. The other three stories in this book were more of a Romantic nature but just as good. I thought all four authors did a remarkable job in very few pages. It kept your interest and before you knew it you were to the end. I enjoy these books it does give you a change to sample authors you may not have any other way!

4-0 out of 5 stars Money well spent. Highly recommended!
I bought this book mainly because of ROBB's "Midnight in Death" which is, by the way, excellent as usual.

CLAIRE CROSS is perfect for getting into the Christmas mood with her heart-warming story about a very 'special' elf.

In a departure from her usual time-travel romances, SUSAN PLUNKETT brings you an action-packed romantic thriller about a woman who has learned to be strong, & an ex-SEAL turned FBI who still loves her, and is unwilling to risk her life in a sting operation. Surprisingly well-fleshed out characters & a very moving story in the same class as Linda Howard & Sharon Sala. (I'll definitely buy her books if she chooses to write more in this sub-genre!)

I didn't give this the full 5 stars bec. DEE HOLMES' tale of an old flame that never died was pretty wimpy/tepid. I mean, there's no mystery, no challenge, no humor, no suspense...In short, you know this is more of the "same old, same old" after the basic storyline. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Set Of Regency Romances!!!
This was a fun Regency anthology with some of today's most popular historical romance authors contributing to this well rounded and entertaining read.

Eloisa James "A Proper Engagement" is the story of two people that have been betrothed from childhood but who have each made it down the aisle.Earl of Kerr has been entertaining the gossips with his outrageous behavior and his fiancée who is patiently waiting for him to come to the country to make an honest woman of her gets tired of waiting and goes to him...only she pretends to be someone she's not...or does she? Will these two people finally make it down the aisle?

Julia London's "The Vicar's Widow" is the fun story of a widow who is being pursued by one of the ton's most eligible bachelors.Does he mean what he says or is he just playing loose with her affections?

Rebecca Hagan Lee continues on with her Free Fellows series with "Clearly A Couple."Lady India Burton was captured by Barbary Pirates and sold into slavery to a Sultan. She has been released and has made it back to England. Her grandfather wants her return to be calm and without fanfare.Enter Jonathan Manners. He is going to be a hero to India in every possible way.Her homecoming is not going to be as scary as she first thought it would be.

Jacqueline Navin's "Miss Jenny Alt's First Kiss" was the sweet story of a spinster who has been taken in as a poor relation and has helped to raise her cousin. She has doted on the spoiled girl but has no idea what this will cost her until an Earl comes looking for a bride and sees behind Jenny's carefully made-up façade. What will happen when she gets her first kiss?

All four stories were well written with interesting plots and characters. This was the first time this reader has read anything by Ms. James and Ms. Hagan Lee so needless to say I've begun shopping these authors' backlists!I highly recommend this read if you are a fan of Regency Romance or like a well rounded read that will offers plenty of laughs, a little bit of tears, and a lot of yummy hero's that recognize a good thing in front of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars well written Regencies
"A Proper Englishwoman" by Eloisa James. In 1817, the Ton enjoys the scandalous behavior of Kerr rumored to have been seen about town with a Frenchwoman. That is the Ton minus Kerr's fiancée Emma who decides if Franco amour is what her wandering future spouse desires so be it.

"The Vicar's Widow" by Julia London. In 1816 Darien wildly kisses Kate, the Vicar's wife, until she sadly walks away.Three years later, he is the toast of the Ton and she is a widow that he still desires. However, Emily wants Darien so she spreads rumors to eliminate her rival by turning the Vicar's Widow into the TALK OF THE TON.

"Clearly a Couple" by Rebecca Hagan Lee.Free Fellows League agent Jonathan escort India, just freed from a harem imprisonment, to her family. The Ton blames India for her captivity though she was an innocent victim and assumes he has gotten his way with the "loose" woman.Instead Jonathan has fallen in love with India.

"Miss Jenny Alt's First Kiss" by Jacqueline Navin.Everyone knows that Jenny, her aunt's companion, is on the shelf.Everyone that is except Miles who seeks a bride and based on their first kiss knows who he wants as his permanent lady.

The four tales are well written especially the Ton exchanging malicious gossip that leaves a reader feeling like a Peeping Thomasina. However, the lead couples fall in love too fast as the novella format somewhat shortchanges the romances.Still these are four fine Regencies and fans will appreciate the titillating tremors of Polite Society causing a scandal even when unwarranted

4-0 out of 5 stars engaging anthology
"The Widow's Auction" by Sabrina Jeffries. Widow Lady Isobel lives a proper life until the boredom finally convinces her to sell herself at a club's widow's auction. Lord Justin buys her for an evening of pleasure that turns into much more. Though straight out of the sub-genre guidebook, this is a fun Victorian romance that fans will enjoy

"Luisa's Desire" by Emma Holly. In the seventeenth century Luisa the vampire treks to a Tibetan monastery to learn spiritual techniques to control her need for human blood. Martin the monk helps her, as he loves her. Though a bit too serious in tone for this type of tale, this supernatural romance is worth the bite.

"Mr. Speedy" by Elda Minger. Female reporter Miranda poses as a man to attend a "how to seduce women" seminar. She plans to write an expose, but her weekend roommate Jake plans to do the same thing. Though not a fantasy, this speedy tale is an amusing story.

"The Awakening" by Christine Feehan. In Borneo, Maggie and Brand are cat people who love each other. However, poachers endanger their relationship as the two endangered heroes rumble in the jungle with the deadly outsiders. This tale is an exciting fantasy suspense.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very sexy anthology!
I bought Fantasy because Emma Holly was featured in the anthology, but I was pleasantly surprised with two other writers in the book. I've never read anything by Sabrina Jeffries and Christine Feehan before, and their erotic stories in this book enthralled me from beginning to end. Jeffries's The Widow's Auction is my favorite story in the book. This Victorian novella centers on a young widow's desire to shatter her boredom by selling herself at a widow's auction. However, she hadn't anticipated that her buyer, the luscious Lord Justin, would give her pleasure so insatiable that one night wouldn't be enough. Christine Feehan's The Awakening is about two passionate were-cats who are in danger of being hunted and losing one another as a result. Emma Holly's Luisa's Desire is a paranormal romantica set in the seventeenth century. Luisa is an "upyr" who wants to end what she considers to be a curse. She no longer wants to crave human blood, so she seeks the help of a Tibetan monk hoping that he will give her spiritual guidance and peace. However, she hadn't anticipated the pleasure the monk supplies. And last but not least, Elda Minger's Mr. Speedy is a fun contemporary romantica about a reporter posing as a man at a how-to sex seminar. She wants to do an expose on the establishment, but gets more than she bargains for...

Sabrina Jeffries and Christine Feehan supply the best novellas here. Emma Holly's novella is quite erotic, but this isn't her best work. Luisa's Desire doesn't have the same cachet as Personal Assets, Beyond Seduction, Hunting Midnight, The Love Slave, and the erotic novels she wrote for Black Lace. She is still among my favorite authors though. I am glad that I picked up this book, for I've discovered two rather talented romantica authors. I will definitely give their novels a whirl. All in all, Fantasy is an erotic, sensual and romantic tour de force that guarantees to burn your sheets. Highly recommended...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good variety, for what it's worth
Despite the uneveness of the stories in this book, it's really nothing you don't expect from compilations. Some of them are better written than others, Christine Feehan's being ironically the most dissapointing, but the book does have a lot going for it.

One thing you can say about this collection that you cannot say about a lot of others is that there is actually a decent breath of variety here. Each story has different types of characters in completely different situations. You basically have all the typical romance novels all in one book-- Regency England plot, girl dresses up as boy plot, sultery jungle plot, and vampire plot.

If you're like me, and you get sick of these collections that are all basically the same stories written by different authors, you might like Fantasy. It's not like all our fantasies are the same---why should the stories all be the same?

And for being all novellas, the stories actually seem suprisingly complete.

It's not deep, it's not literature, but wow, is it fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Palpable, provocative Fantasy
I have to rate this read 5 stars. This is like a Red Shoe Diaries movie--in text. Though all the stories earned merit, I was profoundly affected by Emma Holly's tale "Luisa's Desire"--the classic story of a man seduced from his holy calling by an irresistible temptation. A very close second was Christine Feehan's potent tale "The Awakening", about a man, his life mate, and their shape-shifting destiny in the rain forest. You can count on Christine Feehan to always go to obscure depths to tell a good story. This title will not end up on the shelf covered in dust bunnies; you are sure to revisit these powerful and compelling stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Romance Collection
This is a really good collection of romance stories by very different authors, the theme being of course fantasy. My favorite was the shapeshifter romance by Ms. Feehan, but the others were also very entertaining. ... Read more
