Book Description

Jeremiah feels good inside his own skin. That is, when he's in his own Brooklyn neighborhood. But now he's going to be attending a fancy prep school in Manhattan, and black teenage boys don't exactly fit in there. So it's a surprise when he meets Ellie the first week of school. In one frozen moment their eyes lock and after that they know they fit together -- even though she's Jewish and he's black. Their worlds are so different, but to them that's not what matters. Too bad the rest of the world has to get in their way.Reviewers have called Coretta Scott King Award-winning author Jacqueline Woodson's work "exceptional" (Publishers Weekly) and "wrenchingly honest" (School Library Journal), and have said "it offers a perspective on racism and elitism rarely found in fiction for this age group" (Publishers Weekly). In If You Come Softly, she delivers a powerful story of interracial love that leaves readers wondering "why" and "if only...." ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars IF You Come Softly!!!!
If You Come Softly Scholastic Inc., 1998, 181pp., $3.99
Jacqueline Woodson ISBN 0-439-36738-7

If You Come Softly is an outstanding book that brings up very delicate issues like, interracial relationships, different races, racism, and love-at-first-sight. This book is about a Jewish girl named Elisha, and a Black boy named Jeremiah who fall in love at their private prep school, Percy Academy. The two teenagers don't see what's on the outside but only the kindness and beauty on the inside of each other. But some people don't see it the way that Jeremiah and Elisha do, which makes it difficult for them to have an open relationship. Apart from this they already have their own problems with being teenagers in general. How can their love for each one another stay strong under this much pressure? How can it stay strong when to the rest of the world "love" just isn't enough?

The author Jacqueline Woodson did an excellent job at touching these very powerful subjects, without going to the extreme. This book is a very intense, emotional, and heart aching book. I recommend this book to anyone who is 12-16 years old, who likes to see other peoples' points of view on racism, interracial relationships, and are very emotional.

This book is a great read all the way through and the excitement of what will happen next will keep you on the edge of your seat!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars if the world was againts you would you go against the world
Do you like romance books? Yes? no? Either one I think you should read "If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson. I personally don't like romance books, but I love this book. I rate this book five stars. "If You Come Soflty" is about a Jewish girl and an African American boy who fall in love at first sight. Ms. Woodson wrote this amazing modern love story. Some of the main characters and Ellie, Jeramiah , and both of their families. Ellie and Miah don't care what the world thinks about thier realationship. To them all that matters is that they love each other and are always there for one another. When one person thinks that they can't handle the pressure, the other one holds them up and they stay strong through it all. If you were in their sitiation what would you do? To find out what happened to Miah and Ellie please read this book. It's worth it. Trust me.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book is wonderful
When I first read this book i couldnt put it down i think i finished it in a few hours it is the most beautiful story. The whole thing like everything about it is beautiful the love jeremiah and ellie have for eachother and how the ending is just really wonderfully put together. i definately have this book in my favorites, and you should too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Book... Except.....
This was a great book. Its a story of when a Jewish girl meets a black boy and have a relationship together. It was really good, but keep in mind that when Miah's(the black boy)father says to him "never run in he park". He says that when he is really young. Then when Miah is 15, he is walking through the park and is really happy and decides to run through the park. This was the first time he ever ran in the park, and the police shoot him. That was the WORST ending I have ever read in my life! It was the worst ending to a good book. So if the things in this book were real, then I would get shot by the police if I ran through the park because I was black? Thats really dumb.....

4-0 out of 5 stars If You Come Softly
For Miah and Ellie love at first sight is not only possible, it is colorblind. Miah is he only child of two very famous African-Americans. His father, a movie director, has recently split up with his mother, a writer. His father has also decided to send Miah to a fancy prep school outside of the black neighborhood in which he has grown up. Ellie is the youngest child in a large Jewish family. Her father, a doctor, is often away from home, her siblings have all grown up and left, and she is unable to trust her mother, who abandoned their family on two occasions for several months at a time. Ellie is also sent to the fancy prep school.

When the two meet, their loneliness fades away and in each other they find a soul mate. Yet their relationship is shadowed by the distant disdain of onlookers and the fear of their family's disapproval, and eventually tragedy strikes and Ellie and Miah are separated for good.

In this novel, Jacqueline Woodson displays her delicate, well-crafted prose and her sensitive portrayal of adolescents and their families. Yet sadly her portrayal of Ellie and Miah's relationship is not as powerful as it could be. Their relationship is beautiful to read about but it never becomes grounded in reality. If Woodson wishes to speak about the very real and important issue of interracial dating, she must write about a relationship that the readers can relate to. The bigotry that Ellie and Miah encounter is so subtle (appropriately so) and their relationship is so idyllic that it is hard to see the effects of this bigotry on their relationship.

In addition, the ending is overly dramatic, especially considering the gentle nature of the story up to that point. One feels that Woodson chose to end her novel as she did because she did not want to bring Ellie and Miah's love into the real world and because she knew that it could not go on as it was. This is a great shame, especially considering the quality of Woodson's character development.

As it stands If You Come Softly is a lovely story about a tragic and fairy-tale romance. Yet it has the potential to be a powerful portrayal of love, family and the problems of interracial dating in our modern society. Unfortunately this potential is never realized. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Absolutely Excellent!!!!
This was the best love story I have ever read. The story line was excellent. It kept me reading to the wee hours of the morning. It had me laughing at one point and ready to cry the next. An absolute page turner from the begining. It shows that love can overcome any obstacle and cross all color lines. Seressia Glass is definitely a supporb writer. I would recommend this book to anyone. I'll definitely purchase more of her work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sizzling!
Seressia Glass makes her debut and is a big hit!

Michael Benjamin is doing a favor for his friend Jeff Maxwell by picking up his sister-friend Yvonne Mitchelson. Michael didn't know that Yvonne was AA and beautiful beyond words.

Yvonne Mitchelson is the owner of several lingerie boutiques. She is not ready for charm and utterly maleness of Michael. She is warned by a good friend that Michael is a modern-day cassanova and to stay away from him. Yvonne just couldn't help herself. She gets to know the real Michael.

This story is good and I didn't feel it was about race. It was a good story about two people who find each other. Each person has their tragedy and triumphs. They fit so well. There are secrets shared, loves won and lost.

Ms. Glass did a surperb job in making the characters main and secondary jump off the page. I didn't see Michael Benjamin as a white man, but a man. Great Job Ms. Glass!

4-0 out of 5 stars Ok....ok....I dig
When I first started reading this book, I felt that everything was a little too formulaic. It has the successful black business woman who's Miss Independent and looks like Tyra Banks, etc. She meets the white guy in a business suit who basically says 'Hey I'm not racist my best friend is black'...etc. The first chapter honestly made me want to just write this book off as just another "interracial book."
But wait! Read on. I'm telling you the book got spicy! It was hot! I had to go repent.....anyway, the way the relationship forms between the couple is spectacular. Plus Yvonne's history was so gripping, once it was uncovered, that it completely made up for the beginning of the book. I almost cried. I did cry. I'm about to cry now...where the hell is my tissue box....?
Now towards the end Ms. Glass lost me. After everything Yvonne and Michael had been through she listened to that dummy "friend" of hers. I felt like both of the characters were WEAK! It's like the author is saying that black men can excercise the power to break up that kind of relationship or put it back together whenever they choose. But whatever; I'm not the judge. After that the book captured my heart again. *sigh*
Overall there is a connection with this book that I cannot deny. It's a must read. Then when you're ready to move to college level go pick up The Time of Our Singing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crazy, sexy cool.....
I am am avid IR romance reader (I am in a wonderful committed relationship with a very cute white jewish man) and this story is a good read...the characters were believable (yes I know she was a late bloomer...but it didn't take long for him to light her fires!) I like how they tumbled into love....and stayed.=0)

5-0 out of 5 stars Love in the airport
Michael Benjamin doesn't realized when he does a favor for a friend that he'll find love at the airport. Yvonne Mitchelson is happy with her life the way it is. She's successful, intelligent, and has plenty of friends. She doesn't know romance and love is missing from her life until she sees Michael.

This book is wonderful. I had the hardest time not reading it in one day. It's a page turner. If you never have read an interracial romance before this one will get you started looking for more.

No Commitment Required is an excellent read from beginning to the end. The reader will feel every emotion Michael and Yvonne goes through. This book is a must have for any lover of romance and love.

Don't miss out on reading an excellent book. Michael and Yvonne will steal you heart like they did mine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In my opinion, this is Mrs. Jackson's best work yet!
I really think Brenda out did herself with this one! "Fire and Desire" has to be the best romance novel I have every read, and I have read a lot. Trevor and Corinthians are my ideal couple. They try their hardest to fight their feelings for one another to the very end until their love over shadow's everything else. I will not tell you the story but I will tell you that I did not put the book down after I picked it up, but that's all of Brenda Jackson's books. I may be very bias because I am a fan of Mrs. Jackson, but this book is a must read. I have already reread it about eight times! Go ahead and order it now!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fire and Desire- Yeah Baby!!!
Yes, that is what this book is about- fire and desire! I have been waiting for Corinthians and Trevor's story since being introduced to them in Whispered Promises. Was it worth waiting for? YES! This latest Brenda Jackson novel brings together two people many have been asking about for a long time. Where do these two finally get together? In a setting that epitomizes their romance (steamy and hot), the jungles of Brazil, this book sizzles! The only sad thing about this book is that it ended. I also enjoy the family updates on my old friends -- Dex and Caitlin and Clayton and Syneda, Lorren and Justin. I couldn't put it down! It also introduces many new characters who I know I would like to know even better, Drake Warren, Netherland Brooms and the especially scrumptious Ashton Sinclair. Everyone may love a Lindsey, but I enJoy a Jackson!! This is definitely on my "read more than once" list!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Play With Fire If U Don't Have Desire
Cornithians Avery never could believe the information that Trevor Grant gave her, but when Corinth meets Trevor she never expected the fire to be where it was. After two years of fighting for the reality of what happen that nite at the hotel room a fight for love begins and onlys ends when the desire is settled.

Brenda Jackson begins a story of passion fill with conflict & desire.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS ON FIRE!!!
I can't begin to explain what I feel for this book. Brenda Jackson has out did herself with this book. I kinda read her series backward too. I started with FIRE AND DESIRE and then I read WHISPERED PROMISES. Even TRUE LOVE is connected to the Madarais family one way or another.
I'm sixteen years old and like most teenagers, we barely have time to eat three meals a day let alone read an entire book. But I did read this book. It took me about 36 hours combined, and it was 36 hours well worth it. The passion and words shared between Trevor and Corithians had me up until 2 in the morning.
I enjoyed reading STRICTLY BUSINESS where I learned that they had a boy and named him Rio. Altogether, Brenda Jackson is an exceptional writer. Keep up the good work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trevor is THE MAN
All I can say is I loved this book and some Trevor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "True Love" Unveiled!
The saga continues! In this book, Brenda Jackson tells the readers of Nicholas Chenault's and Shayla Kirkland's story. Nicholas was first introduced in the book, "One Special Moment," Sterling Hamilton's and Colby Wingate's story. Nicholas is Sterling's brother; they have the same mother, but different fathers.

Nicholas and Shayla are one great couple. Love for each of them was literally "love at first sight." However, Nicholas' love is put to the test just as Shayla's love for Nicholas is tested. Will true love win or will deception and mistrust triumph in "True Love"?

Brenda Jackson has weaved another enthralling page turner! The story makes you want to reat it nonstop! "True Love" is definitely another notch in Ms. Jackson's belt!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brenda!! You've Done It Again Girl!!!!
Shayla was determined to get revenge for the hurt her mother suffered. She was a very educated and well rounded young woman. She knew she had what it takes to destroy Chenault Electronics and TJ Electronics. What she didn't count on was falling in love with Chenault's CEO Nicholas Chenault.

Nicholas was tired of the same ol' same ol'. He had not been involved with a woman for about a year. Nick always loved his own space. At least that was before he met and embraced Shayla. Shayla did things to this man that no woman has ever done.

This story has so much drama in it, if I continue, I might give away the real good parts. I will say that Nicholas and Shayla went through alot to be together. There was 2 other romances in this book that were just as enjoyable and their romances didn't detour you from the plot of this story. You discover a family secret that should have been buried with Shayla's mother, and a few other things that will not only shock you, but shocked Shayla as well.

If you have ever read any of Brenda Jackson's books, you know the book is the BOMB! Get it, read it, you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars True love wins in the end !!!
I loved this story as well the other stories I've read by Mrs. Jackson. Thank you for bringing up Nicholas and Shayla's story.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK but...
a bit too much distraction. I mean the story line is followable, but once my heart goes to one scene, the story jump to someone elses story. You know, Trent. And by the time we get back to Nick the feeling is fresh and new. Basically everyone is linked to everybody in the company. so, it is really like the operasoap kinda story. U could say this after you read the conversation.. very dramatic and hmm.. too simple!

Read it. Not too bad really, but not the best either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot and Steamy
Brenda Jackson has succeeded in writing another GREAT book. Nicholas and Shayla were wonderful to read about. Their joining was a very heated one and Ms. Jackson gave us all the description. She shows us without trust there can be no love. I cant wait to read another one of novels. I tell you I am hooked. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SURRENDER ~IS~AWESOME!!~~
In this latest installment of the Madaris family stories, Ms. Jackson manages to bring a fresh new story with two very interesting people in Colonel Ashton Sinclair and Netherland Brooms. The sensual tension between the two is so strong you can feel it through the pages of the book.

The title lets you know that someone is going to have to SURRENDER, because although Ashton is in love with Netherland, she has vowed to never get involved with a military man since she grew up an army brat, moving around. It takes an awesome man like Ashton to change her mind.

In SURRENDER Ms. Jackson manages to tell a very captivating love story, full of romance and passion, and bring you up to date on characters from her previous stories in the Madaris family as well. She also manages to introduce a few new characters, all without missing a beat or taking away from the storyline. I started reading this book around 11 p.m. and found myself up reading all night because I could not put it down.

SURRENDER has the depth to stand alone, but after you read it, you will definitely want to read the previous books in this dynamite series. A list of the previous titles are listed in the front of the book. It wil be well worth it. This one is a definite keeper for the bookshelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars are not enough!
The long awaited story of Ashton and Netherland has finally bloomed into a remarkable book. Be prepared to lose sleep when you start reading because you will not want to put it down.

The first time Ashton met Netherland he was determine to have her for his wife. But being a military brat Netherland swore that she would never give her love to someone in the military. But once she met Ashton her vow was tested to the ultimate level.

I can't give the full details but I will tell you that you will not be disappointed with this book. The love scenes are HOT, you are caught up with previous characters. You get to guess the sex/name of Trevor and Corinthians baby, meet new Madaris members as well as new friends of the family.

I personally can not wait for Alex and Christy's story. Mrs. Jackson leaves your mind wondering if they will ever get together.

Thank you Mrs. Jackson for books that will keep you wanting more and for helping me lose sleep.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surrender...Surrender It All
Ashton Sinclair an Colonel in the Marines when he meets Neatherland Brooms he falls in love and decides right then and there that he wants him and will not stop until he has her. Neatherland Brooms has sworn off men in Ashton's brand but when Ashton decides to play for keeps he plays hard ball.

Ashton & Neatherland begin a battle of love the outcome is full of passion.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
I am so floored by Mrs. Jackson's writing that I have made it a point to get every book in the Madaris Series. Surrender was so good I passed it on to my mom and I have read the book at least four times since I bought it. You don't have to believe in the characters backgroung to be drawn in the web of love that Mrs. Jackson so eloquently created with this book. If you want a book that is really touching and hard to put down I suggest you by Surrender.

1-0 out of 5 stars HoRrIbLe!
This was by far the worst romance novel that I have ever read. It was a total MeSs! One of the main things that I really hated, is how the author introduced all 1,000 characters (I'm exaggerating, but hopefully you get my point) by first, middle, and last name and their family members names, i.e., brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents....... Shouldn't a romance be focused on one couple? I sure thought that it should. But no, this novel had about twenty different couples going through twenty different obstacles! Further more, would someone please tell me, why this author expects the reader to be stupid enough to imagine a man in the U.S. Marine Corps, while wearing his military uniform, to have hair hanging from under his cover that touches his shoulders! The story had no potential from the very beginning. It was unrealistic and a waste of time and money. It was so far fetched that I couldn't even picture the main characters. Don't waste your money! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucky thing I picked this one up!
I like to consider myself a connoisseur of romance novels. Therefore, I've developed a short list of authors
whose works I will read. I don't know what made me take a chance on
Ms. Schuster's Lucky In Love, but boy am I glad that I did!

Several elements that hooked me on this book. One of the first
things I noticed is that the characters aren't stiff. Many writers
fall into the trap of creating characters that are soooo perfect,
they're stilted. Not so, here. Ms.Schuster easily employs the current terminology or Ebonics that
we use in our everyday conversation. Phrases such as "you ain't
said nothin' but a word" and "playa-hatin'" not only serve to
add color to the dialogue and depth to the characters, but it helps the reader to relax and read
the story as if a good friend is telling it.

Also, the author does not waste precious space with each of the
would-be lovers bemoaning the one critical fault that is keeping them
from finding true love. Yes, problems are presented, but the characters
address them and move on to the next stage. This helps to give you a
storyline that is continuously flowing and interesting.

I love the fact that the heroine is well developed in this book -
she's not some ninny sitting around waiting for the hero to rescue
her. The character of Benita (Bennie) Cochran really holds her own.
She's smart, sexy and she has a great sense of humor. It is easy to
see why Clayton Deveraux is reeled in hook, line and sinker!

Ms. Schuster introduces us to some very interesting secondary
characters, and I'm drooling over the possibilities! I can hardly wait
to read other stories involving the Cochran and Deveraux clans.

This book is awesome! Ms. Schuster will definitely be added to the
list of authors whose works I spend time reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise
I must admit that I'm not usually a fan of "romance" novels but that has just changed. LUCKY IN LOVE is a breath of fresh air, a book where the characters experience real emotions. Miss Schuster has a unique style, not only does she give you a glimpse into another world, she opens the door and invites you in for a visit.

LUCKY IN LOVE introduces us to the Cochrans and the Deverauxs. Both families are sucessful and powerful forces in the communication industry and the sparks begin to fly when Benita (Bennie) Cochran and Clay Deveraux meet. Bennie and Clay's future together is challenged by events (and people) out of their control but they are blessed with family, friends and a love that allows them to face all obstacles head on.

Thank you, Miss Schuster, for such a wonderful story! I can't wait to read more about the Cochrans, the Deverauxs and their friends. And what, pray tell, does the future hold for Andrew and Renee?

5-0 out of 5 stars She's shattered the mold!
Melanie Schuster has raised the bar in the romance genre. As a male I was skeptical of "Romance novels"but Lucky in Love is
much more compelling than just a love story.Intelligent, funny, passionate and fast moving best describe the story. At the end you come away liking and caring about Benita and Clayton and what their future holds.I liked this book so well I've given as a gift.I highly recommend you purchase this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars TRIUMPH!
Ms. Schuster simply is one of the finest writers in this field. Delightful characters, with crisp and clean story line make this a must read. If this, Ms. Schusters 1st book, is any evidence to what is to come, we are all in for a delightful ride. Make sure they let you write the screenplay. Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT ONE DAY READ

I hate going into details on review unless the story is whack so I want ruin it for you. Just go get the book I promise a one day read. 5-0 out of 5 stars "Secret Love" is wonderful!!
Brenda Jackson is definitely one of my favorite authors. In "Secret Love," Ms. Jackson has continued the saga which began in "Tonight and Forever," the story of Justin and Lorren Madaris. "Secret Love" is the story of Justin's uncle, Jake Madaris and movie actress, Diamond Swain. Their love has been a secret for almost two years, but now their love has become public.

"Secret Love" is Jake's and Diamond's story, but Ms. Jackson has also kept the readers informed about the other Madaris' clan and their friends we met in previous books.

Diamond is just as Jake describes her -- his Diamond and she is a real jewel. Diamond has not let stardom cloud her mind. She is down to earth, caring, and considerate. She really loves Jake, who returns the affection.

"Secret Love" is another winner! Loved it and I am sure those who have not read it, will enjoy it too! Go get your copy now!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Those Madaris Men!!!!
I only recently became an avid reader of African American romance novels my first Brenda Jackson book was True Love which got me to reading other books she had written. What can you say about those Madaris men and their friends? When Jake's first marriage ended it left him bitter and leary of city women, he never believed a woman could love him or his rancher way of life especially a beautiful world renowned African American actress like Diamond Swain. Diamond needed a retreat where she could escape the pressures of Hollywood, her friend Sterling knew just the place, his friend Jake Madaris' ranch where he himself had found solitude. Jake was not thrilled with Diamond invading his peaceful existence, but the woman Diamond proved to be was far different from the glamor and glitz of her celebraty status. Diamond found Jake's manner and strength appealing but she was afraid if she shared his life it would jepordize his quiet lifestyle. Jake and Diamond overcome the obstacles and dangers of sometimes having their lives played out in public view, Diamond has "a Madaris" who will protect, cherish and love her Jake has "his Diamond".

5-0 out of 5 stars What a book.
I loved the book and all of the sexy romantic scenes.

Jake a rancher loses a bet with his best friend Sterling Hamilton and the pay off is to have Diamond Swain stay with Jake on his ranch for some much needed rest.

Once they see each other for the first time sparks fly. Although, they try not to give into each others attraction, they end up falling in love.

They also have to fight to keep their lifestyles in tacked by not having the other loose themselves in the others career.

This book was my favorite out of all of the Madaris books and I read it more than once.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brenda Jackson out did her self
Such a wonderful read. I can honestly say that I read this book in one sitting. The words flowed off the page, a peice of literary art. I know that this is sad but this the first book that I read of hers and as soon as I finished I went and bought as many of her books as possible. And since I was on vacation I read them all. Dont we all want men like Jacob..

4-0 out of 5 stars A Secret Too Big To Keep
SECRET LOVE was a book about a rancher and a moviestar. Don't seem like the ideal pair. Well, Diamond Swain needed a break big time and that's how she came to Jake's ranch called Whispering Pines. There he tried to ignore her, but like all love stories go it didn't work so well. He realized that she was kind and had a heart and wasn't like his ex-wife who only wanted to change him into something he wasn't.
It was a little drawn out in the end, but it was still a good read. I was really glad to read about the other family members. Who was pregnant and what they were doing now? That was really nice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Time to let go.....
Liza Morrow thought her bad streak had come to an end. What more could she ask for after losing her job, her fiancé and finding out that Jim, the man she met in Florida a year ago, is James Fitzgerald the brother of Eamon her best friend's new husband. When she is awakened from her peaceful sleep to the smell of smoke, the only thing on her mind is getting out of her apartment to safety.Knowing full well she will have to find other accommodations and thinking that Jim has returned home, she decides to stay at the newlywed's apartment while they are on their honeymoon. She soon finds out she's not the only occupant.

Jim is at a loss when he discovers Liza, who he's tried to find for the past year, was right under his nose.Since the night the two threw caution to the wind and came together in a no-holds-barred sexual coupling, he has been unable to forget her.Jim considered himself a love'em and leave'em kind of guy, so never in his wildest dreams did he imagine he would fall head over hills for Liza. The only problem he will face is keeping her from finding out he's madly in love with her. When a haunting issue from Liza's past surfaces, Jim constantly finds himself coming to her rescue.

Once again, Deirdre Savoy has entertained readers with her stunning story-telling skills. The storyline is well-written and full of characters you will come to love and some you will hate.Although this novel is filled with a lot of suspense, the romance between Liza and Jim stands at the forefront.LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES will be enjoyed by readers for years to come.

I give Mrs. Ray 5 stars and the book was just wonderful. I really enjoyed the suspense of it.She kept my attention throughout the entire book. if any people out there has not read the book yet, it is a must that you do so asap.Luke and Catherine make a faboulous couple, not to mention luke is extraordinarily fineeeeeeee.I can't wait to see who Luke's mother has for his brothers and sister. Also if catherine is going to go to the doctor to see if she can concieve children by luke. Again please read asap. Also read the Heart of the Falcon if you have not read it yet. there's a great resemblance of luke and Daniel.

5-0 out of 5 stars A reader from Texas
I really enjoyed Luke and Catherine's story, I always feel as if I'm in the room with the characters as the story takes place. I have read all your books before this one and they just get better and better. I can't wait for Mama Grayson to get involved in her other childrens love life.
Until then keep up the good work your #1 fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars enjoyable reading
I truly enjoyed until there was you i read the book twice because i didn't realize that their were four books before that until i read forever yours then i realized that there was another part than i had to read only hers, heart of a falcon, break every rule than i read until there was you again.I really enjoyed how Catherine came at Luke with the gun because she had hurt his pride and he came of like he was to good be with any other women an she broke him down real good and i liked how she really made him give in and finally feel what true love was all about. I would like to know what will happen with Nicole and the doctor. And really would like to know if the story about Morgan Luke brother is that story ever going to come out. Mrs Ray should do an update with all of them with Kane and Victoria, Matt and Shannon, Daniel and Madalyn and Luke and Catherine

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Follow Up
This book was a great follow up to Break Every Rule. I was intrigued by Luke Grayson and Catherine Stewart. I was somewhat surprised by the amount of dramatic issues in this book but it only added some suspense. I truly enjoyed how the entire Falcon clan and Taggert clan was included in the conclusion. Ms. Ray's writing style is very descriptive without being overbearing and you can actually visualize the place and time. Excellent writing. While this book was truly about Catherine and Luke, adding Dominique and Trent to the mix with their issues was great. Oh, Mama Grayson is one of kind!.. Good job! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 3 ladies that know how to get to your heart
The orginal reason I got this book was because of Brenda Jackson Cupids Bow. I was reading her books on the Madaris Brothers and wanted to read them in order. Well, when I first got the book I only read her story which was great. Kimara getting a chase to be with the man of her dreams it was breath taking. But I decided to go ahead and read the others stories. Matchmaker was a wonderful story about 2 woman that were neighbors matching up Justin small town sheriff and Camille who works & lifes in the city it was a great story with Justin not wanting to fall in love with a woman from the city but it was in the cards to happen. Made In Heaven, Co-owner of a match making company falls in love with a clinet. All three story truly touched my heart. I look forward to the next books you ladies write together.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Arabesque's best anthology collection!
If anyone wants to know how to put together a perfect anthology collection, I would point them to A Valentine's Kiss (and to Welcome to Leo's). The collection begins with a theme of matchmakers and adds three talented authors who crafted excellent stories. All three of the stories are keepers that readers will want to revisit again and again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Jackson does it again!
I may me bais because Brenda Jackson is my favorite author, but that means something. "A Valentime Kiss" is a great story about two people put in a compromising position where they are doing something for a bigger cause; where as, at first they would not think of doing something so out of this world. But love came make you do strange things! Kyle and Kimara are a fun couple to read about. I enjoy the reading a lot! If I was in Kimara shoes, I would not have thought twice about living out my dreams with my first crush! I highly recommend everyone who sees this book advertised to buy it, along with all of the other Brenda Jackson stories like the complete set of the Madaris Brothers stories, you will not regret it! Not to focus on this one author, the other two stories were very good also!

3-0 out of 5 stars Brenda Jackson My Girlfriend
Brenda, I loved the story of Kyle and Kimaria, it is a beautiful and very romantic love story that finally came true. It was very - very - very well written, I must say. It was breathless and I read it three times. This novella was deeply rich with all the key essences that it take to make a fabulous and romantic story to come together. My Sister, words can only express my gratitude for your beautiful style of writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a 30 -- Three Perfect Tens!
Many themed novella collections are unevenly matched, but the three pieces in Arabesque's "A Valentine Kiss" each hold their own. Three of the line's best writers, Carla Fredd, Brenda Jackson and Felicia Mason, have contributed tales of well-meaning matchmakers aiming at their marks. It is a Valentine's Day collection that provides sweet reading throughout the year. Carla Fredd's "Matchmaker" takes place in the Georgia settings that have made her a favorite. It is the story of a Justin Valentio, a country sheriff, and Camille Johnson, an Atlanta professional, who are drawn together in a small Georgia town by their next-door neighbor grandmothers. Camille is immediately attracted to Justin who fights his attraction because his mother and ex-wife both found small-town life unappealing. In "Cupid's Bow," Kimara has loved Kyle Garwood since she was six and he was fourteen. Their parents were best friends who perished in a plane crash several years ago. When Kyle's grandfather's will stipulates that he will lose the family fortune unless he and Kimara marry and create an heir, the two become unwilling participants in an "arranged marriage." "Made in Heaven" is Felicia Mason's contribution to the collection. "Val" (Valentine) Summers doesn't believe in love at first sight, in romance or Valentine's Day -- despite the fact that her parent's were married Feb. 14 and she was born on the same date a year later. Her friends decide to help her loosen up by giving her a gift certificate for a dating service. Val's still not convinced and wants no part of it. Eric Fitzgerald is a professional matchmaker who believes in love at first sight, romance and Valentine's Day. He just doesn't believe in dating the "needy" women who have made him rich and successful. When Eric's partner introduces them, sparks fly. Eric knows that Val's the one and sets out to change her mind about love, romance and him. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written book
I loved this book. The story flowed from the begining to the end. This book was really well written and the characters were great.First book I have read by this author and it defiantly wont be the last.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL THAT!!
Melanie has done it again!Hot romance, "real" down to earth characters, a little bit of suspense, a surprise or two here and there and some Cochran Chaos make for another fabulous story!Adam and Alicia are the perfect couple who took forever to actually become a couple! If this is your first Cochran/Devereaux story, it will not be your last!Start from the beginning of the series and become part of a legacy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great one about the Cochran/Deveraux Clan!
If you loved the others in the series you will love this one too.Melanie Schuster knows how to write about explosive love and make you "feel the love" it as you read about it.

The love that Adam and Alicia share is amazing. These two friends have loved one another for years, but the fear of losing their friendship scared them away from expressing their true feelings. In the end love prevails. You will enjoy reading about how these two friends become lovers and how this family comes together in the midst of drama.Great read for a plane/train ride but be sure to bring along a follow-up book because this one is so hot that it will take you no time to finish it.So, if you haven't read the other books in the series, get them all and ENJOY!You will love the Cochran/Deveraux Clan!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yep, The Tongues Are Wagging!
How can you be the best of lovers, yet be the best of friends?Melanie Schuster surely knows the secret. In Something To Talk About, another devilishly handsome Cochran man bites the dust. This time it is Adam Cochran who comes to the realization that his relationship with his business partner Alicia Fuentes can no longer remain at status quo.

Adam and Alicia have been friends since college. But not wanting to jeopardize the deep friendship they share has caused them to withhold their true feelings. So, what's a writer to do?Ms. Schuster conjures up the perfect supporting characters to help Alicia heat things up a little bit.Well, that's just a little more than Adam can sit still for and he and Alicia are soon on their way to discovering the blissful love they have had for each other all along.

But the romance between Adam and Alicia isn't the only "Something To Talk About"!Along the way, Ms. Schuster reveals the true identity of a character she introduced in her first novel. The mystery reunites a host of Cochrans and even a couple of the Deveraux clan members. The author seamlessly writes past characters into the storyline to allow the reader to visit with some of the couples she's written about in the past.It takes the whole clan to handle the drama that ensues once the mystery man is revealed.Great job Ms. Shuster!Who's next?

4-0 out of 5 stars Finding True Love
Platinum Review Rating: 4

Melanie Schuster presents the fifth book of the Cochran-Deveraux dynasty this time she takes the plot to a whole new level introducing old and new characters.Mrs. Schuster brings a new perspective of undeniable love with Something To Talk About

Alicia Fuentes never thought that love would find her. The man she loves is her best friend and business partner.Alicia met Adam Cochran at M.I.T. where they formed a unique friendship that lead to them having an undeniable bond, but exactly how much could one take before love can truly prevail.Adam Cochran knew he loved Alicia, but after a promise was made a decade before he didn't dare attempt to present his feelings to Alicia.

Everyone around Alicia and Adam knew they were in love and had taken to fighting off the idea thinking that the other would object and that their friendship would end. After a little interference from family and friends Alicia and Adam admit their feelings for one another, but not before a life altering secret test the strength of their love.

The story had a lot of historical facts that made the story that more believable.Melanie is an exquisite storyteller with a style of her own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humorous, Steamy, Sensual.......
Ms. Bryant has done it again! Her sophomore book is tha bomb! Jordan Banks, a wealthy single dad of 5 adopted kids and Mia, his new beautiful next door neighbor are a couple just destined to be together. Spurred on by the kids, and a very sweet but chauvenistic grand-father, Mia and Jordan finally find each other. You can't help but to root for them all the way. As they struggle not only with the kids and their matchmaking, they also have demanding careers. Jordan, a famous author and Mia, a very successful financial analyst. For a time, they both lose sight of what's important and allow others to interfere in their relationship. And what would a good romance be without a little "catfight" on the side? :)

Ms. Bryant tells a very sensual story as Jordan spins a web of love, catching Mia and never letting her go. Run, don't walk, as fast as you can, buy this book! You'll laugh and cry and pump your fist into the air, as they triumph over all adversity and find that pot of gold, at the end of the rainbow!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful characters, storyline and surprisingly children!
I bought this book while on a "never-read author" kick and I'm so glad I did. The book jacket said the story would start off gradually and sizzle to the end (or something to that effect) and they were ever so right.

Mia, Jordan and family provided a welcome look into how well step-families can becomes regular old families. Plus the fact that Jordan was such a skilled lover probably didn't hurt any! Niobia Bryant is very good at writing love scenes that are believable and sensual at the same time. It may seem like an easy thing to do, but after reading many many romance novels, I realize it must not be. It's hard to read a love scene where you're thinking "they'd break their necks if they did that!" HaHaHa....none of that in this novel.

If you're looking for a quick, engaging read with a few twists and turns thrown in for good measure, pick this up! I'll be getting Ms. Bryant's first novel as well and am looking forward to reading it. Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could not stop laughing!!
This book had me laughing so much. I really enjoyed this book. While reading this book you can't help but fall in love with the children, and if you could you would want to hug them through the pages. In addition to being comical, the book was also erotic. The love scenes will have your heart racing. This has been added as one of my favorite books that I will read often.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Mia, can't believe it when she find herself falling, for the clumsy, nerd guy that moves next door with his five adopted kids. 5-0 out of 5 stars Love is Truly Everlasting-As always, I Truly Loved It
Brenda Jackson has done it again. You just have to love her. Felicia and Trask truly has a story that makes you sit up and take notice! This book was hot and very steamy. It is one of those books that has you talking to the characters saying: "why are you fighting the feeling, if only I was in your shoes" type stories. I am big fan of Mrs. Jackson. I've read all her books to date including "Secret Love." I had that one a couple of days after its release date and finished it in one day. So Brenda's a very talented woman, I recommend this and all of her books to put a smile on your face! After reading thing book, you will say, "God has blessed your with a gift. "All the other stories in Something to Celebrate were just lovely too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Madaris Story
Brenda Jackson does it again with the continuous Madaris Family Saga. This is a well written story about cousin Felicia Madaris and her long time friendship with Trask Maxwell. You know how you have those kinds of friendships the boy-girl kind that you have had since childhood, picked on each other, just actually get on each others nerves but in reality as you get older you start having strange feelings for one another. Well this story by Brenda Jackson does just that with Felicia and Trask. It has humor, its heartwarming, it has that old Madaris family touch and it has another great ending. Brenda does it again and makes us all feel like we are apart of this family and somewhere you see somebody who you recognize either as a family member or a friend. So to all the old Brenda Jackson "Madaris Family" saga fans you should be able to read this in one day and enjoy it just like the others. To new fans, in order to really appreciate the Madaris Family and Friends you must start at the beginning, you won't regret being apart of this continuous saga. To my Florida Friend..Ms Jackson..Much continued success as you go into the next century!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Holiday stories
I was getting this book to read Truly Everlasting which is a great story about two childhood friends that grow up know everything about each other but never dated. A little boys letter to santa brings a Truly Everlasting love. The First Noel what better place to find a good men then at Church. A man that love children and love the Lord you can get any better than that. Kwanzaa Kupendi the love of a good man that believes in you and what let you give up on yourself is wonderful. All three stories were great holiday stories keep up the good work ladies. I look forward to reading more by you all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exciting, Heartwarming, Romantic!
The stories in "Something to Celebrate" are truly wonderful! I loved reading all of them. I was moved by Kia Simmons' story in "The First Noel." Kia was a dedicated woman, who because of an earlier tragedy in her life, she was not up to celebrating the holidays. Kia had lost all the joy of the Christmas season, as well as her spiritual belief. However, she was devoted to her nephew, whom she raised from a baby after the death of her sister. It is during this Christmas season that Kia meets the love of her life in the form of Franklin Williams. Franklin not only comes into Kia's life as a love interest, but Franklin brings faith, worship, joy, and a renewed spirit into Kia's life. "The First Noel" was short, but sweet. Kia could not have found love and hope in a better place!

"Kwanzaa Kupendi" was another touching story. Michelle Craig could not have asked for or been given better friends than Loretta, Reba, and Clarissa. Nor could she have developed a more devoted relationship than with Simon Stevenson. Michelle has a lot to deal with regarding her past and her family relationship, but her friends are there for her. Through their dedication and friendship, Michelle comes to realize that life is worth living and love makes it even better.

Now, for Brenda Jackson's story, "Truly Everlasting." It is 'a forever love.' Love has a timing effect. Felicia Lavern Madaris has already decided to change her flighty ways and settle down to become the perfect mother to her young son. However, looks can be deceiving. Felicia has changed her attitude, but not her dress appearance. She is still an eye catcher to the men, especially with some of the daring outfits she wears. "Everlasting Love" is Felicia's and Trask Maxwell's story. Trask not only comes to Felicia's aid, but comes into her heart as well. Their love blossoms into an everlasting love.

Ms. Jackson has done it again with the Madaris' clan!

5-0 out of 5 stars it's all good
i enjoyed all of the author's stories in this book. felicia masons story was about a man helping a woman find her faith back in god just around the christmas holidays. mrs. walker's story was about a man helping a woman find love and overcome her pass thru their love for one another. mrs. jackson's story was about two stubborn people who have known each othe all their lives come together and find love in each others arms. her story was the best. ... Social worker, Jackie Henson thinks she has the world on a string until her boyfriend cuts the cord and weds another. Yet, she doesn't have time to wallow in self-pity, because her clients are committing suicide without reason.

She hires PI Clay Graham, her sister-in-law's brother to help her get to the bottom of these killings. However, when Jackie's ex sends her an invitation to his wedding, she propositions Clay for another job that does not involve detective work, but is just as deceptive and provocative.

Girard establishes a romantic premise. But the hook vanishes after the fifth chapter, as she tries to create a world filled with cults, British Jamaican ethnic enclaves, and the next great American detective--all of which fail, because she doesn't find a suitable balance of both romance and suspense. There are too many subplots between Jackie's and Clay's families, which could have worked if this novel was broken down into a romantic suspense novel series. The minor characters: Eric, Adriana, Drake, Kevin, and so on...keep the reader from finding the clues to solve the mysterious deaths and from witnessing a carefree love between Clay and Jackie turn into something more enduring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Story!
Dara has done it again!I waited one long year for Jackie and Clay's story and it was worth the wait.We met Jackie and Clay in A Table For Two, and I knew their story would be great.I really hope that Dara writes a story for Kevin.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!
I couldn't wait to read Jackie and Clay's story and belive me I was not disappointed. This story had it all and if you have been following the series(Table for Two, Gaining Intrest) you get an update of what family and friends are up to. Carefree is a romance, comedy and suspense roll into one story. Jackie and Clay both have family issues they must deal with on top of dealing with their budding relationship and with the case Jackie has hired Clay to investigate. I couldn't put it down. Dara Girard has a magic way of weaving a story that makes you feel like these are your friends. Hopefully Kevin will have a story soon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is better than the cover!
I thoroughly enjoyed Once in a Blue Moon. The portrayal of the main characters, Denise and Ian was realist and I felt emotionally involved in their budding relationship right from the first few chapters. In fact, I immediately realized this book was going to be a "keeper". I fell in love with Ian myself; he developed from an arrogant, commitment shy loner into a warm, caring and focused individual. Both characters grew and became better people as a result of their relationship; you could see how they brought out the best in each other. I stayed up till 3:00 a.m. reading this book and hated to leave this wonderful love story. I have read several interracial romance novels and feel this book rates as one of the best. The author spends quite of bit time dealing with Denise and her family's negative views on interracial relationships, but its relevant consider the family history

2-0 out of 5 stars You can judge a book by its cover.
This novel can't compete with Sandra Kitt's books on interracial relationships between black women and white men. The cover of the book made it seem like it was going to be a good read. The models were in a sultry and seductive pose. However, after a week of reading the book, I came to the conclusion that the story dragged on. Ms. Cole was trying too hard to get her audience to understand what interracial relationships are on a black female/white male perspective. She tended to focus too much on Denise Adams and her family rather than the situation between Denise and Ian. After reading 200 pages of the book, I felt that the development of the relationship was going to be going nowhere. It wasn't a good idea of the author to substitute a name for Howard University. If she didn't want to use the name of the college, she could've just used historically black college in DC.
Recommended reading on this particular subject: "Fate" by Pamela Leigh Starr and "Color of Love" by Sandra Kitt. These novels have more development in their characters and plots.

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak heroine, weak ending
I tend to prefer my female characters to be strong, self-asssured, independent women, particularly in IR books where the characters will need to summon inner resolve. Denise is wholly lacking in all respects. I was frankly appalled with how she treated Ian throughout the book. She waited for months and months to tell her family about her white boyfriend, even though she knew that her sister would strongly disapprove. There was no reason for her to delay telling her family except to drum up fake dramatic tension. Her relationship with Ian was entirely stable by that point and the fact that she didn't have the guts to tell her family did not speak well for her. The author paid lip service to Ian's disappointment that she had never mentioned him to her family, but he apparently got over it quickly. It would have been a much stonger story had Ian confronted her about it or if Denise truly examined why she felt so ashamed of her relationship. I ended up feeling that she did not deserve Ian. With regard to the ending, I am not really giving anything away to say that weak-willed Denise has second thoughts and dumps Ian for no apparent reason, except as a way to placate her sister. Another ill-conceived plot device to create tension and a happy reunion. There is nothing wrong with following formula, but this one was not well written. Completely out of the blue, she decides to take Ian back and they never examine why they broke up in the first place. The ending felt rushed. Also, if you are looking for a steamy romance, you will be disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good story concept, Bad leading character
I liked the story of Denise and Ian ***BUT*** the story started off way to slow. You got a lot of background about the computer world (which was ok for me because I work in IT) but the relationship between the two doesn't really start until halfway into the book.

All I got from this book was a whiny black woman to unsure of her feelings to face up to her family because she has feelings for a white man. Denise let her family dictate how she should feel WAY TO MUCH. She cried a lot and couldn't seem to focus on her relationship with Ian like a mature adult. Of the two characters you will definitely like Ian and his family more.

I am glad I bought the book but if I had it to do over? I would definitely buy used and cheap!

5-0 out of 5 stars one of my favorite interracial romance novels...
I read this twice already and plan to get my own copy. I was surprised to like it so much b/c of the cover, but you can't judge a book by its cover. I guess the best thing to say is that the book was good and really worth the time reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extrordinary!
The last installment of the Hideaway Daughters and Sisters Trilogy was great. I wasn't sure how I would word this review, but I can only tell you that if you don't read this book you will definitely miss a treat.

Emily Kirkland has loved Chris Delgado since she was twelve. Chris has loved Emily just as long. Emily was a successful journalist and Christopher was a Senator for the state of New Mexico.

Emily never thought in a million years she would actually marry her long time love, but as fate would have it she did. Emily also loved her work as a journalist and was one of the best. But, Emily is assigned to Chris' rival for the office of Governor and now they have to keep their marriage a secret. Emily also finds herself a witness to scandal. Christopher himself has some demons to slay. Together they learned so of the much precious lessons this life has to offer.

I loved the way Ms. Alers combined all of the other characters from the Hideaway Legacy and Daughters and Sisters trilogy. There were so many lessons in this book that it really gave me joy reading it. The way she healed the hurt between Chris, his father and even his mother was wonderful. It was so well written, it seemed so real. I love the way Ms. Alers includes a scripture in the front of the book. Each scripture she chooses is inspired by God. Ms. Alers is one of the most talented and seasoned writers in our time. I am always excited about anything she has written. To get a full understanding of this book you must read Hideaway, Hidden Agenda, Vows, Heaven Sent, Harvest Moon, Just Before Dawn in that order. If not for yourself, these books make wonderful gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Evenly Yolked"
Rochelle Alers', "Private Passions", never excludes readers from the genuine fears, needs and desires of journalist, Emily Kirkland and Senator Christopher Delgado-Quintero, whose lives are under continious public and private scrutiny. These childhood companions' platonic relationship changes abruptly when the pair confess their love to each other in Oco, Rios, Jamacia. Unbridled passion erupts as the lovers secretively marry and continue to pursue their very public lives. Alers' continues to create romances where the characters strengths and characterizations are meshed to perfection. Please read all of her previous books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fight For Time
Hmm the battle begins....
mily Kirkland and Christopher Delgado have been friends from very young ages growing up between the two had caused a very special bond. Emily being a successful journalist and Christopher being the political savvy person that he is go through turmoil to find love and concequest above it all.

WARNING.. If you think you can finish this book and two shakes and a fist think agian Ms. Alers holds you captaive until the very last drop.

5-0 out of 5 stars another satisfying read!
This book was awsome! I've been waiting for this for a very long time. Needless to say, it was well worth the wait. Rochelle always amazes me with her ability to link the stories of her characters. Her stories are always so believable, and I can hardly wait for the next one. I finished this book in two days!
If you haven't read this book, what are you waiting for? If you have read this one, and haven't read the others, I suggest you get them and read the whole story while you wait for her next masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've Got My Amen!
This was a very nice anthology.Being the Janice Sims fan that I am, I enjoyed her installment the most.Ms. Sims' Love Supreme is beautifully written and it features an adorable couple - Jared and Alexandra. When the two of them explore their feelings for each other, it's obvious that they'll soon be strutting down the aisle of Red Oaks Church.Obvious to everyone except the two of them that is.But with a strong supportive cast of characters pulling for them and the ever-present Mother Maybelle putting her two cents in, these two find blessed love.Great job Ms. Sims!

4-0 out of 5 stars Now This Is A Powerful Pairing
To understand my review, one must first understand that I was most hesitant at first to even read the book.Author Janice Sims I was familiar with, however, she was the only one of the four that I could say this about. Aside from having only read the works of one of the others, the entire concept of "Can I Get An Amen," made me a little hesitant.I wasn't quite sure if the authors would be able to pull off this concept of centering all their stories around this fictitious town and church.

Though I admit, the concept was daring, Arabesque knew their stuff when they assembled Janice Sims, Kim Louise, Natalie Dunbar and Natasha Brooks-Harris together for this anthology. What was indeed a Mission Impossible, became a Mission Fulfilled as the writers penned stories filled with love, laughter, tests, trials and religion.

Readers are bound to cheer as Jared Kyles overcomes his commitment fears to build something special with the lovely, Alexandra Cartwright, in a Love Supreme.

They'll cheer again in Love and Happiness, but not just for the main characters, Renata Connor and Devn McKenna, but also for the troubled teen, Malcolm Goodwin. Malcomlm's story is representative of so many troubled males. And to show a couple's love blossoming while helping out one of the often forgotten ones, was nothing short of genius on Kim Louise's part.

If the novel had stopped with the above two, I would have honestly been able to say readers had gotten their money's worth. But added to the above, were sizzling and humorous romance stories by Natalie Dunbar and Natasha Brooks-Harris. Dunbar's story pulled at your heart strings, while Brooks-Harris' story tugged at your funny bone. And none of this would have been possible without the absolutely, delightful Mother Maybelle. Now if that isn't worthy of an Amen, I don't know what is!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a Religious Book
I think the book is great. I could not put it down. I read the entire book in two evenings. I thought the first story was the best, A Love Supreme. However, all four stories were quite enjoyable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great romance novel.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Amen Corner
CAN I GET AN AMEN by Janice Sims, Kim Louise, Natalie Dunbar and Nathasha Brooks-Harris has two common denominators, Red Oaks Christian Fellowship Church and the church matriarch, Maybelle Carmichael.Set in Red Oaks, Georgia, this book of novellas appoints a picturesque landscape of the community. The minister of the church, Reverend Avery, laces the stories with appropriate sermons allowing you to visualize and hear the gospel tunes coming from within.Mother Maybelle is the force behind the relationships as she meddles her way into each encounter. Each story boasts beautiful women, handsome men, small town gossip and jealousy.

A Love Supreme by Janice Sims pits landscape artist Alexandra Cartwright against businessman Jared Kyles, who is totally against commitment and marriage based on what he perceives as a biological gene.Love and Happiness by Kim Louise hosts Renata Connor as an entrepreneur providing job placement and skill training services to at-risk young men.Mother Maybelle makes it her business to recommend Red Oaks Church as a possible sponsor to cure Renata's ailing business.Renata is paired with Devin McKenna, the outreach ministry and entrepreneurial ministry's coordinator.A Love Like That by Natalie Dunbar showcases Dominique Winston, a divorcee who struck out in the marriage game and became the talk of the town and the church. She is the apple of Blair Thomas' eye, a race car driver and engine designer who is in town for six weeks visiting an old college buddy who happens to be a deacon at Red Oaks Church. And finally Love Under New Management by Nathasha Brooks-Harris highlights Valerie Freeman as a woman with a secret as she finds her way to Red Oaks Church to listen to their award-winning choir. There she is in awe of the choir director, and the church is in awe of her voice.

Each story is laced with sins of the flesh, faith and the power of prayer; however there is nothing compelling about the stories. There is the typical romance formula of boy meets girl with an obstacle the characters attempt to overcome. As usual, you root for the male to get his girl and vice versa.I would have liked more significant drama and more work put into the relationships. The redeeming qualities are Red Oaks Church as the main setting and Mother Maybelle because of her insight when it comes to love and relationships; her character added a humorous affect. Also, a relationship built within the church is a concept not too often touched upon and it made for a nice change of reading.

3-0 out of 5 stars Amen it's over
I have just finished my First anthology read. Unfortunately, it had to be a romance novel that left me with a bad taste.I didn't know what to make of this christian romance or should we just call it a romance novel, because most of the sex scenes would cause the most holy christians to backslide.

The novel is based on a church called Red Oaks Christian Fellowship located in Macon, Georgia. The stories are based on particular members' lives. The mother of the church, Mother Maybelle, is a lonely, nosey, gossiping, busybody that has had five husbands and no biological children. She reminds me of the woman at the well when Jesus asked her where was her husband and the woman responded that she had none. Jesus said you have said well that you have none because you have had FIVE husbands.Just like Maybelle.Mother Maybelle married five rich men and they all died.I wonder if she's killed them off? I wouldn't put it pass her. She seemed like the type to do such a thing with her lavish lifestyle. Now that story alone would make a great read of a novel.

The review is long because it's an anthology of four stories. So to summarize the short end:

1. A Love Supreme by Janice Sims:Churchgoing landscape owner, Alex Cartwright meets handsome business owner, Jared Kyles. Alex gets him to do something that he hadn't done in years---go to church.Naturally, they fall in love, but not before they make passionate love and then have the audacity to attend church the next morning with no sense of repentance. This story was the second best of the anthology.

2. Love and Happiness by Kim Louise:The third better story in the anthology.Anti-church goer, Renata Conner falls in love with church-going Devin McKenna. Renata is the founder of a non-profit organization that helps wayward children. She seeks Red Oaks financial assistance in helping to keep the agency opened. The busybody, Mother Maybelle, decides that Brother McKenna needs a wife, so she sends him over to the non-profit organization to interview Renata to see if her company is a match for Red Oaks to help. They are attracted to each other, but it becomes rocky.Eventually, they work out their problems, thanks to Mother Maybelle, and fall in love.

3. A Love Like That by Natalie Dunbar is the better story of all.Even though it was the least edited, (more errors than I care to mention, but that's BET for you), it was the most favorable story.Dominique Winston, born into a lap of luxury, meets racing car driver Blair Thomas. They meet at the church's Men's Day picnic where Dominique was a member and a volunteer of the event.Blair was just passing through the city and was invited by a friend to attend. This time, the pastor of the church, Rev. Avery, is the matchmaker of this pair, but he does it with finesse, unlike Mother Maybelle. When things start to turn shaky, here comes Mother Maybelle to the rescue to patch up the broken pieces.Dominique and Blair falls in love, hoping to have a lasting, happy marriage just like Dominique's parents.

4. Love Under New Management by Nathasha Brooks-Harris.Last and definitely least of the anthology. This story dragged on and on. Choir soloist, Valerie Freeman, joins Red Oaks and falls in love with dreadlock wearing choir director, Norman Grant, who happens to be Mother Maybelle's foster son and the most eligible bachelor in the church. Valerie is hurt over a past relationship and doesn't know how to let go and trust again. Norman has to use all of his tactics, along with the help of Mother Maybelle, to get Valerie to marry him.One thing I must say about this author is that she set some very visual chuch sermon scenes. I thought I was sitting in one of the pews. However, there was a sex scene that could have put the X-Rated author ZANE to shame.I was shocked to read how these two church going folks, not to mention being the choir director and his leading lady singer, could so easily make passionate love and attend church the next morning with no sense of repentance. As a matter of fact, you will find this sort of behavior in all four stories. It seemed that no one felt any sense of remorse or sorrow for their sins of lust and fornication. It appeared to be the norm in their church. It makes me wonder what Rev. Avery is preaching about--money or the salvation of souls? It left me with a sense of thinking that all of the couples' sentiments were exactly the same:"Before we get married, we gotta see if we're sexually compatable first."

If you are one of those "Saints", then you wouldn't want to read this, but if you are one of those "Aints", then you can identify. This is a 2.8 on the SmithScale.
