Why so large?
I am a University of Minnesoota student and we use this text for our introductory Human Anatomy course. (Unfortunately they came out with a new edition and I couldn't sell it back to the bookstore.) Strictly in terms of the content this book was average because I often needed more information on certain aspects of the human anatomy. My real frustration was due to the fact that I feel the publisher should have supplied a carrying case specifically designed to carry such a large, awkward book. I realize that the size contributed to larger pictures but I feel it was a bit overboard! Finally, as I mentioned before, a new edition came out very recently. The new book resembles the previous edition too much. It's unfortunate we live in such a capitalistic society as to allow such a situation to take place.. ... Read more

This book is in awesome shape, I used it for an online course, so i have never carried in a book bag. No markings, and very very minimal corners bent.

Interesting and real world scenarios
I teach technical writing at a community college and frequently switched textbooks until I discovered Mike Markel's. It is well organized, gives 8 measures of excellence in technical writing that students quickly grasp, has very up-to-date scenarios that prompt critical reading and writing and the online quizzes and resources are the frosting on the cake. This book is a great tool for educators, students and absolutely anyone who wishes to write in a professional manner.

Well written, over priced common sense.
The information in the book as well as the scenarios presented are well put. The writing is adequate for the subject. Overall, though, I feel the cost of the book exceeded the value. Much of the information in the book is common sense.

CECIL'S FLEXIBILITY IS MILES AHEAD
Dedicated to health since 1927, Cecil Textbook of Medicine is like wine: the longer you indulge in it, the more captivating it becomes. This 21st edition on CD-ROM exhibits Cecil's wealth of experience in a manner that will make its contemporaries to sulk with envy. It is not just the best in terms of providing succinct information, but also in terms of contents organisation. This CD-ROM remains the 'numero uno' multimedia Textbook of Medicine if flexibility of use is your priority.
The only minus this book has is that it is not as thorough (in scope) as Kelley's text is.

great outline; easily understandable
This book was first recommended to me by my consultant in internal medicine, so I decided to purchase a copy. So far I have enjoyed the book tremendously. The outlay is great; the depth of coverage is excellent, and it cuts to the meat of internal medicine without giving you distracting [and often confusing] information. Whenever I wanted a general overview of a topic, I turn to this book. For further studies, I use Harrison's. The standard is a bit high for the average medical student though. But if you are an intern, or an IM resident, you'll find the book an invaluable companion.

I am disappointed
I know Cecil for several years.
I am using it together with Harrison for the last 20 years.
I bought the 22nd edition with the web version.
It looks wonderful, but....
Try and compare the chapter on hyponatremia and compare it to Harrison. Try and find Carbamazepine on the list of drugs causing hyponatremia...you cannot find it in Cecil (but it is in Harrison and in the "current").
What about amiodarone and hyperthyroidsm? It is hardly mentioned in Cecil, and well described in Harrison (and in good old "current").
So, let's wait to the new edition of Harrison.

Cecil
I first bought this book in Medical School and I still use it almost every week after 14 years. It is thorough and consise-- provides a bit of theory and a lot of practical information in a scholarly style. If youre a reader, get this book-- you may find yourself reading a reference book in your spare time. I would like to go to a physician who used Cecil Medicine as a reference. If youre not a natural reader, forget it and just buy the latest copy of the Washington Manual.

Neither here nor there
I bought this book before my Medicine rotation (on a deperate, misguided "what if I don't have enough information for this 'oh so important rotation'" impulse) and regretted it. I barely used it, and I much preferred Current. I found that the information was not particularly easy to find. It read more like a storybook. I felt it was time-intensive but not detailed (not like Harrison's). However, it is really a matter of personal preference. Some may like the many diagrams, flow charts, and tables that are given. It also gives a quick review of the relevant basics (pathophysiology, anatomy, etc.). My advice: by the time you get to your Medicine rotation, you should already know your study style and should choose the most appropriate book in accordance. In Depth Pediatric Reference
When I was on my PA Peds rotation, I often consulted this great reference in the medical library. Now, that I have my own book, I know its value. There is no other Pediatrics book out there that is better than this one. Don't waste your money on less expensive books like Current Pediatrics which doesn't cover half as many topics as Nelson. Also, for a great little pocket books, try Harriet Lane and Current Clinical Strategies Pediatrics 5 Minute Review.

Comprehensive Reference Work
The Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics covers just about
every possible subfield in childrens medicin. As
a lot of different authors have contributed, the style
tends to differ a lot between different sections and
chapters.

Some of the chapters, such as the one describing the
immune system, are very technical and only aimed at
the well-versed in microbiology, whereas others, like
the acutely ill child, are very descriptive and make
a compelling read.

NToP is a particularly useful reference work for
those who want to read a good description on a
particular pathology or disorder. It is not written
or intended as a diagnostic aid, but rather as
a starter to bring the reader up to speed in a
particular subject after the diagnosis has been made.

It is also not intended as "the last word" on anything.
For instance, although the pediatric cardiology section is
extensive, you will need rather more to discuss a complicated
case with the pediatric cardiologist at the local university
hospital.

Sadly, some topics are barely touched. Look for sliding
hernia or oesophagitis, for example, and you will be
disappointed.

This book is a useful investment both for medical
practicioners and the loving parents to which it is
dedicated.

Great features, further improvement possible
I don't think I need to explain how great the "Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics" is, so I focus on the features as software.

This product is based on a java applet and for Windows and Macintosh. For each of the chapter, about 30 review questions are available in a multiple-choice format. The answer is not only with alphabetical one, but also with a concise explanation with a link to the textbook. I find this feature very helpful. I haven't checked "Nelson Review of Pediatrics, 2nd ed., Behrman,R.E.CW.B.Saunders , 2000 263p", but the publisher says that this feature is based on this book.

Update service is available. Every time when you launch the program, you are asked whether it checks the updates. Full access to NelsonPediatrics.com for further information is also available, after you sign up on the web site. After all, the support service is awesome.

However, there are some things you should know as windows users, which is why I put 4 stars. First, you are required to use Netscape or Internet Explorer as your default browser. The browser must be new enough, too. Second, you must insert the CD-ROM every time you use this program, since it doesn't install all the files to your hard disk unlike the previous edition. Third, if you are using localized Windows other than English, you may have to replace some files. The procedure is as follows, quoted from the mail I got immediately from the support center:

Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics
This textbook is the gold standard of pediatric books. I used mine all through medical school and still use it in my practice. I highly recommend this text to students, residents and physcians. The thought provoking text and excellent illustrations make this a must have book. I couldn't practice without mine.

A Classic Textbook of Pediatrics
No medical text can ever be comprehensive, or completely up to date. The science of medicine advances so quickly that books are outdated the day they are published.

Nonetheless, "Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics" comes as close as possible. Along with another other classic pediatric text, "Rudolph's Pediatrics," Nelson's represents the best of pediatric medicine in America. Every pediatrician has a favorite, but Nelson's is the gold standard.

Nelson's is particularly strong in pediatric cardiology and immunology. For the latest in infectious disease, see the "Red Book" published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. For neonatology, developmental pediatrics, and the surgical sub-specialties, consult specialty books in those fields. For congenital malformations and syndromes, "Smiths's" (by Jones!) is a good place to start. For the latest in oncology, your best bet (after your local trusted oncologist) is to search Medline or the Web, but watch out for quackery. ... Read more

Pretty good, even if it is a bit wordy at times
I used this textbook when I took General Genetics this past semester. The book contains a wealth of information. In the course I took we focused on the basic principle of DNA and RNA, Mendelian principles, mono and dihybrid crosses, pedigrees and inheritance, multiple alleles located on different loci and multiple alleles located on the same loci, genetic mapping, damage and DNA repair mechanisms, prokaryotes gene regulation, and population genetics. This text did much to help my understanding of these topics and also contained other topics that we only touched upon in class or did not have time to cover, including the genetics of cancer, quantative genetics, and recombinate DNA technology.

At the end of each chapter in the text there are a number of conceptual questions and genetics "problems" that serve as a tool of teaching genetics by the problem based approach. These problems are helpful because my class focused on the problem based side of genetics, as most general genetics classes probably do. The book includes a CD-rom that includes the answers to ALL of the problems in the book for FREE! The CD-rom also contains movies that illustrate important mechanisms like transcribtion, translation, and DNA replication, as well as additional exercises. For me, I found it particulary helpful to be able to "see" genetic processes instead of just hearing about them in class.

Even though all of the anwsers to the book problems are included on the CD-rom, I would recommend picking on the Student Solution Guide as well because it is GREAT. It works out every single problem in the book. This is somewhat of a rarity for science books (especially biology ones). I can say that this solutions manuels is very helpful.

The only problem that I had with the textbook was that it was a bit wordy in some sections. While reading this book, I would recommend highlighting only those topics that your professor discusses in class and not getting hung up on terms that he or she has not talked about and sound like gobble-gook (Shrine-Delgado sequence, TATA box). Most likely, your class will focus on general concepts and you will not have the time to discuss the specifics in detail. I can't say that it is a bad thing that the book included detailed information from other areas of biology (biochemistry, cell biology), since these fields will be important if you are a biology major, but they probably do not need to be disscused in great detail in genetics if not prompted by the instructor.

Overall, I would say that this is a good genetics text. It contains usefull explanations and illustrations about topics that may not have been clearly explained in class, especially if your professor tends to mummble or doesn't have the best artistic style when it comes to drawing chromosomes.

Okay
I haven't been using this textbook very long, but there is one issue I think people might want to be aware of. If you buy this book used, you can't get access to the website. Mine didn't come with the CD-ROM either, but that's more to do with the person who sold it back than anything else (although if the CD-ROM were packaged so that you could just slip it into a pocket on the back cover more people might return the CD with the book). You can buy access to the website for $22/yr.

Could be better; could be worse
I haven't surveyed the entire landscape of genetics textbooks, but in general this one still left me lacking. My largest complaint: even though this is a first edition, the editing was atrocious.

Pretty colorful photos and good CD rom for extra effect
Overall, the book was well-written. I really enjoyed the color photos and the review questions at the end of the chapters was pretty good.

Also included was a CD-rom with the answers to the problems, iActivities to help us digest the chapters we read, and chapter quizzes.

I really enjoyed the chapter quizzes because they helped me focus on areas I was fuzzy about. However, I did not like the quizzes very much either, because there were wrong answers. Most of the time, I figured the answer it said was "correct" was wrong and vice versa, so if the problems with the CD can be cleared, this can be a great book. ... Read more

A solidly written and comprehensive life science text

Good study guide for microbiology students
I thought this book was a good source for summarizing microbiology subjects like telling the difference between staphylococcus and streptococcus in a very understandable way. It gave good summaries and served as a good source for studying for my college microbiology exams. If you really want to know the type of questions given on college microbiology exams get the following;

The latter study guide helped me to prepare more thoroughly for the kind of questions encountered on my finals and midterms. I highly recommend both books.

A work of art in the popularization of biology and medicine
If you are looking for an easy going text on such
a complicated topic as microbiology, you have just
found it.

In very accessible language, dr. Alcamo tours the
whole block, covering bacterial metabolic pathways,
describing bacterial and non-bacterial pathologies
to industrial applications such as the making of
beer. As stated in the introduction, emphasis lies
on applications of microbiology to pathology.

Each chapter ends with some student review questions
for thought and discussion, which I found particularly
interesting, as they pretty much covered all topics that
where discussed.

Margin notes explain the pronounciation of words through
phonetic notation and act as an online glossary. They
seem patronizing to those familiar with the subject matter,
but come in handy for the layman.

dr. Alcamo's writing style is entertaining and anecdotical.
As such, it is a great contribution to the popularization
of science in general and physiology and medicine in
particular.

I see only one point of possible criticism: chapter 2
on the principles of chemistry is superfluous for those
familiar with (organic) chemistry and too concise for
those who lack the background. In view of the further
covering of bacterial metabolism, I'd suggest an
extension of this chapter on the mechanics of organo-
chemical reactions.

An excellent text and reference book
This is a great introductory microbiology textbook that also serves as a good reference book. Microbiology is not my own field of study, but I developed a personal interest in learning something about bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Microbiology could be a very dry subject, but Dr. Alcamo makes learning about microorganisms very interesting and entertaining. I have found myself, on several occasions, looking something up quickly in the book, only to find myself still there reading on other stuff an hour or two later! (Wish I could say the same thing about all those textbooks I used to get my degree...)

Best Microbiology textbook available
Having reviewed many microbiology text in my continuing study in this area I found the book to be a excelent combination of the following; accessible concepts clearly explained, interesting facts and folklore, sufficient information without over exploring the more advanced concepts or missing the important basics. Not Happy with 7th.
I loved 6th. ed. But I'm not happy with the 7th. Bivens and Davis have clearly taken over and ruined a great textbook. I'm looking for another textbook the next time around. The other teachers at my college seem to agree.

Excellent Book on a Difficult Subject
When my copy of Stewart fell apart awhile back, I decided to order this to replace it, since it was one recommended by CAS/SOA for Exam 1. I am not disappointed. This has more graphs and pictures than Stewart to help explain some of the fundamentals better. While the content and the layout are pretty much the same as other Calculus books, I particularly liked the writing style of the authors, who eplained things well without being really technical. If you are looking for a Calculus text that helps you solve the problems then I think this one is for you. There is a fair amount of rigor (i.e. proofs and theory) here, but no more than other texts. If you are looking for more of the theory behind the applications, I would try Apostol's 2 volume set which is much more rigorous. If you are looking for a text to study Exam 1, then this is the one for you.

Really baddddd, joke stuff,super baaaad.
Don't buy this book, this book is the design for students who don't know math particularly calculus. This book is designed not for beginner or advanced but is designed for mickey mouse. The content is totally horrible just joke stuff that you can answer very briefly without doing any writing in paper/computation. If you want be a mathematician don't even start using this book. You'll be in trouble in the future.

Good book but poor CD
This book written in an easy language that suitable for people who use Eng as 2nd language, examination also clear but the bad thing that this book has is the very poor CD. CD contain only a link and demo version of graphing program all of this cost 2Mb only, I hope before buy this book that CD contain an interactive program, animation or pdf version of this book so I am very disappoint with this but others just fine, A good choice than Thomas's Calculus 10th

A great resource for self-studying
I like this book because it assumes no prior knowledge in Calculus. It starts from the basic topics e.g. functions and develop to advanced topics e.g. vector and tensor calculus following a logical development.

Besides, the book has a lot of computer graphics which make reading inviting. Also, there are numerous examples in each section which make the text easy to understand. There are too many other features and I can't mention each of them. ... Read more

The Mercedes of Undergraduate A&P Books
I used this book as a student, and refer to it frequently as a reference. This 1000 + page text explains the structure and function of the complicated, detailed human body in a logical, easy to understand manner. Everything about this book is user friendly including the presentation order, the writing, and the graphics. In each chapter, Marieb presents the big picture before zeroing in on the details. For the body's systems, (digestive, endocrine, respiratory, etc.) Marieb overviews the system, and then explains the gross and fine anatomy and associated physiology.

Here are a few of the many features I find impressive: * Graphics: Very impressive photographs and illustrations. The electron micrographs are spectacular. * Tables and charts - These greatly simplify the learning of complex concepts. For example, in the immune system chapter, there's a good table explaining the first and second lines of defense. * Medical applications - Common diseases are overviewed in the appropriate chapter, for example epilepsy is discussed in the neural integration chapter. There are occasional basic pharmacology and sports applications, such as diuretics and blood doping, respectively. * Making connections feature - Marieb shows how the system being studied relates to the other systems in the body.

This is an absolutely state of the art A&P book, and each edition is better than the last. It's expensive, but you get a lot for your money. It may be too detailed for some, who would be better served by her "Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology" text. If you're an A&P student, I recommended you use her workbook as well. I've found that working through the exercises really helps this information stick.

Great A&P book, written in friendly style
Elain Marieb presents a really wonderful anatomy and physiology text. It provides a colorful feast of pictures and charts for the visual learner without skimping on the important details in the text. Marieb's writing style is friendly, informal and descriptive. Her writing can get quite theoretical at times but she always comes back to earth with a common example.

This book is best suited for health sciences students (medicine, nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy etc.) as the book is littered with clinical applications. However students taking A&P at high school and undergrad level are well catered for. The book works systematically, from basic biochemistry to the organ systems and system interactions. Genetics and inheritance is also covered briefly.

What else is on offer? A large glossary (invaluable to an A&P text!)and a prefix/suffix table. There are chapter summaries and test quizzes. Some may enjoy the CD ROM computer interaction aspects, there's also access to Elain's internet site for A&P students.

Some of the material gets quite tough as the book progresses, but with re-reading and reference to other texts, students should quickly get a handle on the material. I previously owned a copy of the condensed "Essentials of human A&P" and traded it in for the full edition. I don't recommend students get the condensed version unless they are confining their A&P study to high school or 100 level college study.

In conclusion, this is good first textbook and greatly aids in one's course of study. Marieb takes the unimaginable complexity of the human body and presents it in a fun, relatively easy-to-read, lively text.

Great for A and P students, must buy
I used this book for both my Anatomy and Physiology class in undergrad. I found this book to be pretty easy to understand. Of course, at first it is overwhelming to know how much you have to remember for the test. At least, writing style of this book made A and P easier to learn. The material is presented in organized fashion. However, if you really want to know the type of questions asked on college Anatomy and Physiology Exams get the following which is on amazon: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations Volume 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Volume 2 (ISBN: 0971999627). These two helped me to get A's on my exams. The textbook and the two study guides are well worth the money since they helped me to pass with high grades the first time. I was recommened the study guides from my cousin who used them for his A and P class and found them to be great for test preparation. I give each book 5 stars.

Yes, but...
This book is an outstanding achievement for a single author, and I have learned a great deal from it. I like the graphics, the layout, and the wealth of information. However, I do find many paragraphs and passages in this book difficult to follow, usually because crucial details are missing. See, for example the explanations of ossification (pages 181-183) and the countercurrent mechanism in the kidneys (pages 1022-1026). It took me less time to digest a whole book on the immune system than the corresponding chapter in this book (chapter 22).

There is a web site associated with the book, which gives the student an opportunity to ask questions. I submitted a couple of simple questions several weeks ago, but have yet to receive a reply.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any A & P book at this level that would be better.

Excellent textbook and a must buy
The author of this book is an excellent writer. She makes learning anatomy and physiology easier. This book is divided into so many topics like skeletal system, nervous system, circulatory system. This book helped me as a undergraduate A and P student. It helped me form the foundation of my knowledge. However, if you want a really good study guide that focuses on key topics seen on college A and P exams, I highly recommend the following: Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology by Patrick Leonardi

The best book for VR preparation
I run private tutoring courses for the MCAT, and I would say that this book is arguably the best source for MCAT Verbal Reasoning questions, aside from the real exams from AAMC. (Needless to say, I use this book in my course.) The writer accurately captures most aspects of the real exam, including passage length, question wording, distribution of question types, and ambiguity of the correct answers. The only major flaw that I find with this book is that some answer choices are not well supported (even taking into account the fact that the correct answers on the MCAT are supposed to be somewhat ambiguous). In some cases, there are blatant errors in the question stem or stated correct answers, or, more rarely, two equally correct answer choices. For this reason, I would rate this book 4.5 stars, but since Amazon doesn't let me do that, I will give it 5 stars. :) On the actual MCAT, the incorrect answer choices are usually a little more differentiated from the correct answer. These mistakes and imperfections are frequent enough to be a little annoying, but not abundant or major enough to topple this book of the pedestal of being the best VR preparation book out there. Kaplan's and Princeton Review's materials do not quite compare (especially Kaplan's, which contain too many explicit detail questions). Keep in mind that the questions in this book are probably going to be slightly more difficult than the real MCAT questions, which are not quite as tricky. Have fun and good luck.

An Excellent Guide for Verbal
The verbal is by far one of the most difficult passages around for MCAT test takers, and I certainly fall into this category. If you want to do well on it, you must PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! The examkrackers verbal is an excellent tool that will give you the necesary practice. Try to get your hands on a lot of verbal passages (be careful, don't buy any of the teaching solutions MCAT products, this is one of those garbage prep materials the EK author was talking about) and work through the problems. Familiarize yourself with the common questions that frequently pop up on these verbal passages, and don't fill in the obvious answers. Practice and prepare, and you will do fine.

RE: Better off with AAMC practice materials!, NOT!!!!!!!!!!
The AAMC practice materials are outdated compared to the real thing. They are too easy and you will be unpleasantly surprised on the real thing if your prep materials are from AAMC. Some times I think they want you to do badly, since it's their job to weed people out. For prep use the most difficult passages possible, then you will be fine. Let me leave you with one thought in mind: every next MCAT was always more difficult then the previous one.

The Best Prep Verbal Book for the MCAT
I tought that EK Verbal 101 was the best prep book for the VR section of the MCAT. The passages were as long as the real exam, about the same level of difficulty and type of questions. I liked how the exams usually got harder half-way through, and each passages had more and more questions -- that's they way it's for me on the real MCAT. I mostly received 6's on my VR practice exams, and I ended up with a 8 on the real test -- not bad for someone who has only been using English as a formal language for 4 years, and is a Native Spanish-Speaker.
I am re-taking it, and I plan to buy the book again!!!

This book has perhaps bridged the gap between me and medical school. In July I bought 101 Passages and diligently took a full length verbal section about once every three days as part of my preparation and it made the difference between medical school in the Carribean and becoming a viable candidate for some first tier U.S. medical schools. I also carefully studied Jon's advice in his Verbal Reasoning study guide and followed it religiously. It helped improve my score substantially. So why is this book so great? First, the text is identical in size and font to real thing, so you feel perfectly comfortable and familiar with the appearance of actual passages, question stems, and answers on test day. Second, the passage topics were right on the money -boring (cabinet making, charitable trust management, etc.), irrelevent to medicine, and challenging enough. Third, passage length was identical to that which you encounter on the real thing. Fourth, the answer choices are ambigious and you never really feel good about your answers -that is the essence of MCAT verbal. Dave perfectly captures that in 101 Passages. Fifth, there are 11 full length practice sections, which help you master your timing and slowly but surely improve you score. Sixth, Jon is pretty helpful on his website and will respond to most of your questions and give you that personal support that makes him kind of seem like a coach whose on your side. Lastly, there's nothing else out there that comes close to 101 Passages. Get this book to improve you verbal score. To really ace the verbal, carefully study the lectures in the thinner Examkracker's Verbal Reasoning study guide. Force yourself to adopt Jon's strategy. It will help you. If you do nothing else, remember these two points of advice: (1) finish the verbal sections no matter what you do, and (2) read for the main idea and be sure you have it in your head before you look at the questions. For the math challenged...
I bought this book for a math for nurses class. I took the class because even after all the math classes I've taken, math is still a struggle for me and this was a last effort before I start nursing school. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL! For the first time ever, "I get it." I feel totally comfortable with calculations now. The book gives you several different methods to solving and you can pick the one that works best for you. It's easy to read and has great examples. 5 stars!!!!!

Great Book!
I would STRONGLY recomend this book to anyone entering the nursing and/or paramedicine field(s). I used this text during a recent course in college and found there was no need for an instructor! Extremely easy to understand with plenty of examples! The text comes with a cd, although I never used it.

Dosage Calculations 6th edition
This book is an excellent tool for learning to convert dosage calculations. Whether you are a beginner or wanting to brush up on your existing skills, the exercises contained in the book gradually become more difficult allowing you to skip the easier questions if necessary and jump straight to the more advanced problems. There are plenty of review problems to work out that ensure you are knowledgable of the material before you move on to the next chapter. There are clear, easy to follow instructions on various methods of calculating dosages so that you may choose the method that works best for you. There are word problems that portray actual scenarios that might be encountered in your career, rather than just hypothetical ideas. Knowledge About Cerebrospinal Fluid Fistula
We have got the textbook and we thought that the book our main anesthesiology resource.

Recently we have a case of cerebrospinal fluid-cutaneous fistula following spinal anesthesia used for indirect inguinal hernia repair. But we couldn't see any comment in the textbook about the management of cerebrospinal fluid fistula from inthratecal space to skin due to postdural puncture for purpose of spinal (intrathecal) anesthesia.

Cutaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistula are known to occur rarely under spinal puncture during spinal anesthesia, and CSF leaks via that fistula. This complication is often self-limiting but sometimes needed some treatment procedures such as intravenous fluid restruction, patient prone position, strecth dressing of wound, epidural injection of autologous blood patche or fibrin glue, or uncommonly use of CSF drainage system.

We think that if this complication and its' management is included in new edition of the textbook it will be better.

Pathophysiology Made Clear
This is an outstanding textbook of the subject of pathophysiology. This can be, and is, a difficult subject to grasp the concepts of but this book makes it easier to learn. Gone are the days of boring pictures that don't really help the learning process. There is a good combination of artwork and photographs to illustrate what the text is saying. I am a self-taught student in this field and this book has helped me gain a good understanding of the topic.

The chapters all begin relatively basic but move into the areas of in depth knowledge. There are a number of charts and graphs that basically sum up what a portion of a chapter is talking about. It is interesting how this book can be used as a resource text and as an initial learning tool. Whether this book is being used for self study or for a course it is important for the student to have a foundation in anatomy and physiology so they can understand the content better.

I really like how this book is very applicable to those who provide emergency medical care. I highly recommend this book to those who are new to the subject of pathophysiology because if its ease to use, its quality and quantity of content. I have benefitted a great deal from this book.

A Lifelong Investment
McCance and Huether's Pathophysiology book is a lifelong investment. I bought it for a pathophys. class and continue to use it long after the class is over. It is thorough and easy to understand. Great illustrations and diagrams. I would recommend it to anyone in the healthcare field.

Great Book
I have been using the book and the information is easy to understand and is well organized. The pictures are expecially helpful and make the material easier to study. The anatomy and physiology chapters also provide a good review. This is a book I plan to keep and use for a reference.

I think the first reviewer must of read a different book. This is an excellent book, easy to read and the illustrations are superb. I highly recommend this book for people who want an upto date text.

Pathophysiology
I have been using this textbook for about 2 months and find it to be one of the poorest written books that I have come across. The authors fail to realize that the book is written for students and often introduce uncommon terms that are either never defined or defined several pages later. With that being said, it doesn't help that the book doesn't have a glossary.

I know that your purchase options may be limited because the college you are attending requires that you use this book. However, if you must purchase it, also purchase another Patho book to explain what this book is trying to say. ... Read more
