Good Text, But No Color
I was a little disappointed that all of the pictures were blackand white. In order for this book to be useful to me, I would have topay [approx. $20.] plus shipping and handling to get the actual swatches used in this reference book.

The text seemed to be very thorough and all fabric types are covered. For the price, I would have expected color photos of the swatches since it is difficult to judge texture from black and white. Not perfect but the best there is for new installation
I have them all from Calder to "Living on 12 Volts" to "12 Volt Bible for Boats" and this one is the one that sits next to my breaker pannel.

None of these books will take you from start to finish wiring a new boat but this one does it better than the others. The only better option is to invest a small fortune on the ABYC standards.

Good for the beginner or before you have serious problems
Interesting book though several things keep it from earning more stars.

Apparently the book was last updated in 1993. So, comparisons using more modern inverters, 400+ Amp alternators, newer wind machines/solar cells are not compared.

Personally, I am more interested in the ground up construction of a marine electrical system. The book deals well with the repair and maintenance of an existing one, as well as small projects. The book is more suited to an existing boat owner rather than a builder.

Lastly, explanations go from basic to advanced with little time spent in between. Though this isn't a major problem.

My recommendation?.. If you need serious help with your boats electrical system.. keep shopping.. But, if you have minor problems, wish to understand the systems better or wish to prevent problems by all means buy this book.. ... Read more

Wonderful Book in very good condition.
This book is a good one with depth in numerical analysis and the condition was very good.I felt as if i got a new book.I think people who buy from babonee are always satisfied with what they get.There are lots of information on pseudocodes in different programming languages and this gives students a idea of comparison between languages.The examples are over view of how we should proceed with the exercise problems.

Absolutely marvelous
The strongest point in favor of this book is the fact that authors seems to have taken an effort to see the problems from students viewpoint: i.e. from a viewpoint of a person who does not know Numerical Methods and want to learn them without facing unnecessary complications. Topics are comprehensive and clear. Excellent resource for students at undergraduate or graduate level. No wonder it won ASEE Meriam/Wiley award. Highly recommended. (NOTE: As with the case with many textbook readers, I did not read the book cover-to-cover. The review is based on a few sections that I read. )

I am an hvac technician,and this book was more clearly written and logically written than any book in its field that i have read.(and I have read a lot of books}.
It is considered the bible of the hvac industry- highly recommended!

Very good on its purpose
This book is surely one of the best available for its purpose, that is, to give an introduction to the refrigeration and air conditioning technology, and also to teach how to install, service, and maintain all the hardware associated with this.

The text is very well writen, in a very clever language. Graphics are very good, and very helpful to the understanding of topics. Sections dedicated to the electrical and electronic sub-systems were a surprise: they are also very clear, and are very helpful even for experienced technicians. There are even sections dedicated to airflow at conditioned spaces, a matter that isn't very well undestood by technicians.

I strongly suggest this book to the people that wants to start working in this technical area, and also to that who already work with it. Very useful to the begginer and to the experienced technician as well.

Be careful..
Be careful if you're buying this book for college. The sellers usually do not indicate which edition they are selling - and anything older than the 4th edition will be completely useless to to you. ... Read more

From a student point of view
Lacking important concepts from 1st edition that should have been in the chapters on production mathematical models. (Scrap, Time In Plant, etc.) Good descriptions of general machine automation processes. Good overview of NC, CNC machining, covering more in these chapters than some texts associated with only this topic. Good overview chapters of industrial robotics, PLC control and programming, in-plant material handling, manufacturing system schemes, assembly systems, quality control, Statisics, inspection and planning. Overall a very capable text. When coupled with a well developed laboratory, would be a text for a very complete college level Industrial Automation course.

This books explains the fundamental principles as well as practical applications of computer-based manufacturing in a clear and effective manner. The illustrations complement the text well, and are worth the price of the book alone.

One of the best IE books
I sincerely believe that this book has been one of the best in its field. I just hope that Prof. Groover will publish another edition of this book reflecting the current changes in the manufacturing world.

Solutions Manual!
For anyone looking for extra problems to work in preparation for the PE exam, take note: this book does *not* provide practice problems. It is a solutions manual for Lindeburg's Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual (look at the larger view of the cover and note the blurb in the upper left corner). It was previously published as the "Solutions Manual for the Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual" -- which I bought last summer along with the reference manual in hopes of taking the test last fall.

I'd rate the book 4 stars if I weren't annoyed at buying it in hopes of having more exam-grade problems to work. The practice problems in the reference manual aren't (IMHO) as good practice as the problems in a book like "101 Solved Mechanical Engineering Problems." I'm a firefighter in the other side of the world, where firefighting has still a
great need of improvement. Firefigthing here is in the stone age. This book help me improve my knowledge and technical skills of firefighting as a whole. Since I've read this book it made me feel more confident when I'm in the fire scene knowing that I have greater knowldege in my work because of the things I've got from this book. Hey guy, buy no other book
This is the best handbook for fire departments to use in training new personnel.This text has more information than the IFSTA book and is much better written and edited.I also like the pictures this one has, especially the ones in the history section (mainly the one from Gettysburg).Go forth and purchase a hundred, no, a thousand copies for your department today!

Too Much for one book
The publishers tried to put a lot of information into this book. Unfortunately it didn't work. This book attempted to go beyond firefighting and into Haz Mat, and EMS. Instead of having useful facts and instruction, this book has very basic info. What is in this book isn't really useful to somebody studying for firefighting tests. There are no certification tests that have Firefighting, EMS, and Haz Mat all on the same test. There is a reason why they are broken up as much as they are. This book reveals why other publishers haven't combined all of that info. Let's face it, in this job you need many different books to get your information. No one book will ever be sufficient for the needs of the fire service. Delmar has typically put out good books but I was disappointed with this one. People may like this book because it's an easy read, but this book holds nothing to the 4th Essentials of Firefighting produced by IFSTA.

This is a well thought out book
This is a great improvement over the standard Essentials of Firefighting put out by IFSTA.The writing is better, the graphics are outstanding and there is great background information on each subject.
If you just want a textbook, purchase the IFSTA book.If you are interested in really reading and grasping the essentials then purchase this encyclopedia of knowledge and insight.
