the ONLY career guide for adventure seekers
The "Global Citizen" is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to travel or work abroad. Most importantly for me, this book has a wealth of information on careers abroad that I had not thought of before. Most career guides are so narrow in scope that I rarely find much use in them because they are so "8-5" in nature.
The other cool thing about this book is that it's full of websites with info. on every aspect of living, working, or volunteering abroad.
I love the personal stories in the section "A Global Citizen's Perspective" because, as a traveler, you can really connect to the experience of the author and other people who have done what you want to do.
If you are looking for a a life changing adventure, then travel abroad. If you want to stay abroad, then get this book!!

Inspirational Book!
This book is wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone! The author writes on a personal level like she is talking to you and it is also written from a emotional level so it is easy to understand. This book gets you excited about all the possibilities and the author explains any fears you may have and how you can get over them and overall she gets the word across to never give up! She also gives e-mail adresses from other people who have experience travel. This is a great book, everyone can benefit from this.

Standard issue at SCI
I am a student at Scottsdale Culinary Institute, an LeCordon Bleu school in Scottsdale, AZ. This book is the first that we are issued and is used as a standard reference throughout our twelve month curriculum. It may be somewhat confusing for the home cook as there are many industry terms used, and all of the recipes are scaled for large production quantities. Nonetheless, it will give you a great idea of how things work in the food service industry and start you off to better home cooking techniques as well.

A very in depth book!
While I am not a culinary student, I do love to cook and learn the science behind the food. This book is the most comprehensive, best photographed book I have seen. This is written for the student, or professional preparation in terms of quantities the recipes make. You can easily scale most of them to suit your personal needs. The book is divided into various sections there is a textbook feel as each area of food is explained thoroughly, then come the recipes. This book is nice as it offers many suggestions and ideas with each recipe. While this may not be the best choice for every cook at home, I think this is a good choice for people that want a little more out a cookbook.

This book helped me a great deal through all courses
I am a culinary student and this book was a required purchase. It is very detailed and has great photos. I also love the questions at the end of each chapter, but unfortunately no answers. The baking section is very good too, but I was having a little bit of trouble getting through those particular courses. After buying the Study Guide for Baking and Study Guide for Advance Baking I was able to get a passing grade. It asks and answered all the questions I was looking for.

One word - incredible.

I've always loved cooking, and have always been a capable cook in the kitchen, but always wondered why certain things are done the ways they are (such as how does flour thicken a sauce without it getting pasty) and how to make simple things such as bases for sauces. This book has that information and a LOT more. After getting roughly 30 cook books through the past 5 years, I realize now that this is the only one I ever needed. All of the recipes I've tried have been incredible (the only annoying thing is the large scale they're made to, though that's easily remedied), and it's a cookbook that I actually like to READ as opposed to just pull recipes out of.

HIGHLY Recommended for any type of cook.

Five Star Book!
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the Culinary Arts. Beginning with a brief story of the origins of contemporary cooking with Escoffier, going through Hygiene and Sanitation, Kitchen Equipment and utensils, covering all the necessary techniques for the future Culinary Professional, clear, step-by-step illustrations and excellent pictures, this is the most complete cookbook I have found. It combines both the French techniques with the collaboration of Le Cordon Bleu Chefs and the American influence with the expertise of the author. Excellent starter book for oxyacetylene!
There are so many books on welding that it is hard to figure out which one will be best for you, especially if you are a beginner.
One of the first things as a beginner is to start with oxyacetylene (gas) welding. The problem is that with most welding books, they try to focus on ALL welding forms and there is a lot of information that gets left out. For oxyacetylene welding, this is THE book. It's COMPLETE focus is on oxyacetylene. That's the bonus about this book, and it really comes across well for the beginner. If you don't know anthing about welding and want to start, buy this book! It's loaded with easy to follow instructions, practical tips, and great step-by-step procedures. It even goes into the physics and metals and thier properties in a down to earth, easy-to-comprehend way!
On the downside, the 10 easy-to-follow projects should have been chosen better because some are not applicable to the average welder (like a hay manger and farm gate).
Bottom line: When I read this book I was so pleased that I didn't put it down until I was finished. If you want to focus on oxyacetylene then this is the book for you. ... Read more

Worth the money
This little book is packed with plenty of great information, tables, charts, formulas, defenitions, math, plenty of circuits, analysis methods and more. Plenty of advanced topics, its not cryptic to newbies and if you are an experienced engineer it wont bore you either. I think this book is worth every penny and then some.

The entire reason I bought this book was for the back ground projects glowing water and fog chiller. I read the book twice and did not see it in there. If anyone has found this please e-mail me. Great resource for Halloween
This book had everything I needed to get some animation into my displays! I highly recommend this book. Mr. Wise gives all the information you will need (math, physics, etc), but presents it in an easy to understand format. Be the talk of your neighborhood next Halloween

There is an error on the back cover! It claims some additional "background" projects -- alas, these were dropped when we moved the from being a Halloween-only text, to an all-seasons book.

Still one of the best.
When the first edition of Katznelson's book appeared back in 1968 (when I was a student), it soon became the talked about, and universally used, reference volume for the standard tools of harmonic analysis: Fourier series, Fourier transforms, Fourier analysis/synthesis, the math of time-frequency filtering, causality ideas, H^p-spaces, and the various incarnations of Norbert Wiener's ideas on the Fourier transform in the complex domain, Paley-Wiener, spectral theory, and more. It is easy to pick up the essentials in this lovely book. Now, many years later, I occasionaly ask beginning students what their favorite reference is on things like that, and more often than not, it is Katznelson. Thanks to Dover, it is on the shelf of most university bookstores, and priced under US$ 10.

Great Introduction to Classical Harmonic Analysis
This is a great book for looking at classical harmonic analysis: the study of Fourier Series on the "typical" groups, includes a quick look at the general situation and ends with an introduction to commutative Banach Algebras. Both topics are continued in [Loomis].
