Excellent clear text
I have been hunting for a concise and clear atlas that would help me visualize the brain in 3-D. Atlases I used in medical school were 2-D, too detailed, disjointed, and left alot to the imagination as to how the brain parts fit togther as a whole. This book takes the guess work out of that and is a text as well as an atlas. It uses airbrush pictures to help with visualization. In addtion, it has the added bonus of including a CD-ROM. It is a delight to read and in only minutes a day, I am gaining a whole new understanding of the brain. The pages are printed on high quality paper and you can easily use colored markers to color in any part of the brain you wish. There is even a suggested color chart. Excellent!
Just started using these cards to prepare for an upcoming course and I know they will save me much time making my own. In addition, I've already learned all about the shoulder girdle (first section)! However, the only problem I have with this product is that it seemingly (I could be wrong but I'm pretty sur on this) does not include the muscles of the face. Despite that the product does have such a flaw I am sure my recent twenty dollar purchase is the best investment I have made in my studies yet!

Great study tool for high-schoolers to professionals
These cards are a must for people in the health care fields. They are wonderfully made for the first-time learner and for the person who needs a review. The text includes origins, insertions (although proximal and distal insertions are more accepted), action, reversed origin-insertion action, nerve supply, and synergists. A NEAR-PERFECT CHOICE
Stedman's Medical Dictionary is a near-perfect lexicon that should serve the needs of anyone interested in medical language. With it, you are assured of simple but precise definition of terms. Although its biggest shortcoming is having fewer entries than the Dorland's, its colourful illustrative figures are far better than the black and white charts that the Dorland's boast of.

Must have Doctors
As both doctor and founder of a EchoScribe Inc, a leading internet based medical transcription company, (www.echoscribe.com) I must recomend Stedmans as the dictionary that all physicians must own. There is also the PDA version that is also a good carry. It not only provides a quick reference, but in writing medical letters, and transcribing documents, this book is a "medical must have."

The most useful dictionary in ur office
I have been using this great dictionary since I joined medical school. Even now as a doctor, I still use it when I'm stuck with a meaning of a medical word. Features include:

- Appendices including: Table of elements & their atomic weights, Comparative temperature scales, Temperature equivalents, Weights & measures, Symbols, Laboratory reference range values, Blood groups, Diagnosis related groups, Certified Regional Poison Control Centers, CDC Universal Precautions, AIDS - resources (By State), AIDS Hotlines (By State), and AIDS education & training centers (By region).
- 27th Edition comes in 2098 pages, and was published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins company (great company by the way!), 2000.

I wish there could be Stedman's Dictionary on PDA handhelds (e.g. Palm) in the future.
I strongly advise medical students and other health care workers to use this invaluable dictionary. 10/10

It's got it all!
Studying pharmacy, I often come across huge medical terms that aren't in my scope of education. I do, however, need to know what they mean right now. Lucky for me, this dictionary is very comprehensive. There is an excellent word finder section and a very useful section on medical abbreviations, common symbols and all kinds of other helpful stuff.
The one drawback to this book is its size. It is a little big and heavy to cart around from school to home but other than that - the perfect assistant!

Endless list of medical terms.
This is a great medical dictionary that has every possible medical term. It is 2,000 pages of great illustrations, easy to understand definitions and very complete. Worst book on the subject.
This was the worst purchase I have ever made. This is a poorly illustrated coffee table book on death. There is no educational value. Although it is obvious that the author (Jay Dix) had great cases during his career, they are very poorly photographed, and the publisher has done a pitiful job of reproducing them. I must agree with all the three prior reviews. The author has an easygoing style that I greatly enjoyed learning from. The pages are small in size and the font is rather big; which allows to finish this guidebook in few hours, and repeated.

There are twelve chapters. The firsts provide sensible advices about choosing "better" words, sentences, tables, graphs. I found chapter six about Spelling and Grammar, Punctuation rich with great advices. Other chapters advice about how to choose the right journal. The author was straightforward in the chapters about clinical report, review article, letters to the editor etc and ethics. Really, I was impressed by the eighth chapter " how to get more writing done".

Briefly I learned a lot from this concise guidebook.

Excellent Guidelines
Great guidelines, easy to follow and good explanations & examples. Also, debunks some of the grammatical rules that we were taught... "ending sentences w/ prepositions". Recommended reading for both writers, ghost writers, and medical practicioners who outsource some of their writing.

Excellent summary of Medical Writing
I recently purchased Robert Ile's Guidebook to Better Medical Writing and was very pleasantly surprised. He takes a concise, nononsense approach to the subject and provides readers with a series of excellent tips. He covers the basics of writing very well but also includes info on how to write case reports, clinical results, review papers, etc. I have found his book to be helpful in my own medical writing and editing consulting service. At first glance, you might find the textbook by Robert Iles, Guidebook to Better Medical Writing, deceptively simple. Good but not great.
There's a lot of good information in this book but I would not recommend it as a reference.

First of all, it isn't totable: it's format makes it a clunker. It's 8 1/2 by 11" and its page format is such that the book could have been printed with half the paper. The added appendices are pretty useless considering the main A to Z section entries pretty much tell you exactly the same thing.

Second of all, the formatting is inconsistent; adding question to your inquiry. Did they make this entry as complete as they did that one?

I very much prefer Meletis/Jacobs' and Brinker's books to this one. For intuitiveness and extensive cross-referencing, Meletis/Jacobs' wins hands down.

A Book for Today's Health Consumer
The authors of this book have made a significant contribution to the resources available for today's health consumer. By providing this current, well-organized and useful "guide" they are helping those of us trying to protect or improve our own health, and those of us facilitating others in doing that, tremendously! Their research is thorough and and unbiased - I highly recommend it.

A "Must Have" Reference for Patients and Doctors.
The editors and authors of this HealthNotes publication have presented the most up-to-date information in an easy to read format without compromising scientific judgement. In the information world of alternative medicine, it is all to easy for conventional medical texts to react out of fear by recommending "extreme caution" for just about any prescription or possible nutrient/herbal interaction. "The A-Z Guide..." does a tremendous job of integrating insights of physicians form several different disciplines (the book is written by an MD, ND, and DC, et. al.), which provides the reader with a diverse and thorough scientific review of known and suspected interactions. Great books for students and interns for a general introduction on radiology, including reading x-ray fils of the head, chest, abdoman, pelvis, and bone fractures. It also has a great review on CT reading. It has lots of films with arrows and illustrations for novices to follow. Great book to have

I bought this book during first year of medical school but didn't appreciate its quality until 3rd and 4th year (the clinical years). Concise text with many, many high-quality radiographs and studies. Covers the basics of diagnostic imaging and then moves to areas of the body: head, chest, abdomen, bone & joint, etc. with imaging modalities for each explained. Handy pocket guide
I agree with the reviewer from Dec.2003 - the pocket survival guides are not intended to be an authoritative reference on anything, especially not the science of surgery. But in its mission to provide house officers with a useful and quick reference on basic surgical issues, this book succeeds. Very compact & useful to have in your lab coat pocket while on call.
