5-0 out of 5 stars A Doctor Needs Only Dr. Baum's Book and a Phone Book!
When a new doctor starts practice,he only needs two books: a phone book and Doctor Neil Baum's book on practice marketing.

Forget expensive "consultants"--you pay for their education; sort of like someone taking your watch and then telling you what time it is. Doctor Baum is obviously not a full-time consultant; he is practicing MD who has been "in the trenches", in real-life practice, every day for several decades. He knows what works and what doesn't because he wrote the checks.

If his book were written when I started practice in 1977, I would be long-retired by now, sipping beer and catching lots of fish at Green Lake, WI. Because the book wasn't available then, I only get one week per year ( and not many fish). Get this book-if you are at the start, middle or even end of your practice. There is nothing like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For Physicians
We recommend Dr. Baum's book, "Marketing Your Clinical Practice" to all of our medical practices, particularly physicians who are starting up a new practice.

Dr. Baum's tips on non traditional sources of referrals are outstanding and his book complements our philosophy, that being effective management equals good manners plus common sense.

We would highly recommend this book to any physician in need of enhancing his/her patient volume.

John W. McDaniel President and Chief Executive Officer Physician Management Group, Inc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on practice management
I am Dr. Baum's mother and I am certainly not biased but I have to say this book is more than outstanding. I know how hard he and Ms. Henkel have worked to create this tome and you will find valuable information for your medical practice. I think every doctor should read my son's book! Sara Baum

5-0 out of 5 stars Marketing Your Clinical Practice:Ethically, Effectively, Eco
This is an outstanding contribution from Dr. Baum's fertile mind. He has a great understanding of the need for medical marketing. This book is especially timely in our era of high technology and managed care domination. It is a must read for all physicians.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marketing your practice...view from a university perspective
Marketing Your Clinical Practice-Ethically, Effectively and Economically is the most useful book on medical marketing that I have read. The book contains dozens of useful and practical ideas to make your practice more efficient and enhance patient satisfaction at the same time. A must read for the busy doctors who wants to streamline their practice in 2000. Dr. Robert Kessler, Professor of Urology at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA ... Read more

Book Description

Encyclopedia of Medical Devices and Instrumentation John G. Webster, Editor-in-Chief This comprehensive encyclopedia, the work of more than 400 contributors, includes 266 articles on devices and instrumentation that are currently or likely to be useful in medicine and biomedical engineering. The four volumes include 3,022 pages of text that concentrates on how technology assists the branches of medicine. The articles emphasize the contributions of engineering, physics, and computers to each of the general areas of medicine, and are designed not for peers, but rather for workers from related fields who wish to take a first look at what is important in the subject. Highly recommended for university biomedical engineering and medical reference collections, and for anyone with a science background or an interest in technology. Includes a 78-page index, cross-references, and high-quality diagrams, illustrations, and photographs. 1988 (0 471-82936-6) 4-Volume Set Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry Frank Herbert Attix provides complete and useful coverage of radiological physics. Unlike most treatments of the subject, it encompasses radiation dosimetry in general, rather than discussing only its applications in medical or health physics. The treatment flows logically from basics to more advanced topics. Coverage extends through radiation interactions to cavity theories and dosimetry of X-rays, charged particles, and neutrons. Several important subjects that have never been thoroughly analyzed in the literature are treated here in detail, such as charged-particle equilibrium, broad-beam attenuation and geometries, derivation of the Kramers X-ray spectrum, and the reciprocity theorem, which is also extended to the nonisotropic homogeneous case. 1986 (0 471-01146-0) 607 pp. Medical Physics John R. Cameron and James G. Skofronick This detailed text describes medical physics in a simple, straightforward manner. It discusses the physical principles involved in the control and functon of organs and organ systems such as the eyes, ears, lungs, heart, and circulatory system. There is also coverage of the application of mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity, and magnetism to medicine, particularly of the various instruments used for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. 1978 (0 471-13131-8) 615 pp. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for boards study
I used this book for my clinical neuro class and it was excellent! It even has some epidemiology and statistics. It's all I used to study for this subject on step 1!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book nothing could be better!
You really need this book for Usmle as well as med school.Indispensable A book you will refer to over and over again

5-0 out of 5 stars Behavioral Science book you gotta have
Well, behavioral science is the most important yet difficult part to masterize in the USMLE step 1. That's why a great teacher ( at least they say so ) like B. Fadem thinking of all the world's students, wrote this book.
You cannot ask for more. Written in an enjoyable manner, with high yield facts, review questions on Each Chapter, and a final review exam, concepts definitely get into your hard disk ( or you will have to see your neurologist ). It's a masterpiece worth a place in your shelf, and of course, it's price is insignificant for what you will get.

5-0 out of 5 stars A++ Great review the potpourri of Behavioral Science!
Great outline review of all the parts that fit under the rubric of 'Behavioral Science' according to the NBME. Prepared me well for the NBME exam, and was a good review tool for class exams in Psychiatry. Highly recommended! Fadem is a great teacher too! ... Read more

Book Description

The Sixth Edition of Dr. Haines’s best-selling neuroanatomy atlas features a stronger clinical emphasis, with significantly expanded clinical information and correlations. More than 110 new images-including MRI, CT, MR angiography, color line drawings, and brain specimens-highlight anatomical-clinical correlations.

Internal spinal cord and brainstem morphology are presented in a new format that shows images in both anatomical and clinical orientations, correlating this anatomy exactly with how the brain and its functional systems are viewed in the clinical setting. A new chapter contains over 235 USMLE-style questions, with explained answers.

This edition is packaged with Interactive Neuroanatomy, Version 2, an interactive CD-ROM containing all the book’s images. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pics
I gave it four stars because I don't think I could recommend this atlas as a stand-alone sole reference for someone trying to master neuro-anatomy, but I do recommend it as part of your arsenal.

I don't know if you have had the experience of moving to a new city. Have you? You study street maps, and you have to get lost several times. But somewhere along the line you start having moments where things are snapping into focus. You start to see how things fit together in your head. Soon you are imagining short-cuts, anticipating the traffic jams, and debating the best routes with the natives.

I had to struggle with this atlas a little. I'm more a psych guy than a neuro guy but I love the circuitry and appreciate the importance of understanding it. I liked this initially because of the great illustrations of brain sections, but soon I found that things were clicking into place in my mind.

I recommend this for anyone struggling to understand all the tracts and nuclei in the spinal cord and brain stem. There is a sequence of slices in the middle section of this atlas that creeps up slowly, from lumbar spine through the thalamus, with a picture of an actual stained section next to a labelled illustration. I went through this slowly and carefully, copying the pictures as I went. And then, BOOM, I had that moment. I could see it all, motor tracts, sensory tracts, cerebellar circuits, ventricles, even the friggin' reticular activating system. It was quite an expansive feeling.

Again, not a flawless book. I still like to go back to Netter's to see the limbic structures and basal ganglia dissections as well as to review the vasculature. But Haines' Atlas does have some unique strengths if you are willing to work through it very patiently. Enjoy.

Peace, I'm out.

2-0 out of 5 stars ok but it lacks some stuff
This is an ok atlas for neuro anatomy but I found it lacked some pathways. However, what it does have in pathways is fairly clear and concise. Still, the slides lack clarity so some stuff is hard to understand.

2-0 out of 5 stars not reader friendly
I found the actual photos to be great however the presenation of the tracts left a lot to be desired ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for Radiologists and Orthopedicians
Since its first edition, this book has imposed itself as a new classic must have in any radiologist or orthopedicians library.
It is an excellent comprehensive review of orthopedic radiology covering all imaging modalities and all pathological entinties.
It is done in an excellent clear text with extensive radiographs, hand-drawn diagrams and summurizing tables with lot of "never seen before" explanatory diagrams.

5-0 out of 5 stars reading orthopedic films made easy
This is an excellent resource for the non-radiologist. It gives you an idea of what an acceptable film should look like. It organizes your thoughts on what your looking at and what you should be looking for in your films. The photos are crisp, and to clarify subtle findings, out to the side drawings help highlight the feature of interest (very helpful). I will get a copy for my office this year. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Roberta Burgess, RN Community Health Instructor
My name is Roberta Burgess, RN.

I am a brand new Community Health Instructor with Beaufort County Community College. I have reviewed your book and as a new instructor, I will recommend this book for our students next year. Community health is new to the ADN program and selecting a book that would cover topics in community health at both the freshman and senior level has been difficult.

First, I like the brief content review in the beginning of the book. At first glance, it provides students with and overview of what Community health nursing has to offer. Community health Nursing: Promoting the health of populations is current in its presentation and rational.

Secondly, the case studies presented that follows the chapter review is wonderful, I can use the examples with student to bring each section to an end. With student needing more example and application of the nursing process, I find the case studies invaluable. I have been a community health nurse for 10 years in various fields including school, health department, church, occupational and home health and I have not found a book that covers the topics as well as this one. I feel likeI wrote it myself ( no pun intended ) I can relate to each chapter and I feel like the students will feel the same way. Especially since our students get the opportunity to rotate through many different community health settings.

Finally, I just wanted to comment on the way the authors have included the application of the nursing process into every aspect of community health nursing. I really could go on and on, the color pictures are great and realistic, cultural diversity is included througout the book along with updated statistics and nursing research.

Most of all I like the readibility of the book. I would buy it if I wasn't a nurse. I think this is one of the best community health books offered, I have looked at several community health books and handbooks over the last year trying to find one for my students.

I think I have found it. ( although it is expensive for our students, I will recommend it. It would be a great supplemental source for nursing students and nurses.

Thanks Roberta S Burgess, RN ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Surefire Documentation" Review
This is a wonderful book. It was given to me to review by one of the charge nurses where I work--a long term care facility in a small town in Iowa. This text not only gives very good instruction on documentation, it is organized well. Each cover includes a quick reference guide to assist with finding specific areas of concern. It is well written and includes text boxes with more specifics and concrete examples. I have recommended it to my Director of Nursing Services as a resource that could be used in the other 2 nursing facilities in the corporation. An excellent reference text with easy to find entries! I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a ready reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb and essential for physics boards
Using Huda as my primary source along with multiple years of Raphex questions and a single set of San Antonio review questions, I was able to do very well on the physics boards.

I would strongly recommend purchasing this book as all the material it contains is HIGH yield on the physics boards. Well-organized, concise, and easy to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need for physics for boards
Huda, raphex and old questions are all you need. In that order. Even the fine print and tables in HUDA should be memorized.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slight correction
There is a seperate chapter in radiation safety, however this information is also scattered throughout the text. I would have preferred for all the material to be stuck in one section. Other people may prefer differently, but I find it difficult to remember all the factoids and magic numbers. Maybe a compromise solution would be a quick index section at the end listing all the "must know" numbers and formulas.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best for ABR by default
It's certainly a managable size, but it's going to be difficult to pick up if your program doesn't offer any form of formal physics training. There are a fair number of annoying typos, the worst being incorrect choice answers (3 alone in the nukes section). It doesn't go into enough depth about radiation biology and safety, which has been recently emphasized on the most recent ABR exams and deserves it's own chapter in the text. All the same there's really nothing else out on the market of similar size. Bushberg is far more comprehensive but also intimadating in size, and most residents are not going to devote that much time to reading that text. There's enough clinically relevant material to drown in without wasting precious reading time to bulk up for a test that most people consider a nuisance and a money shakedown by the ABR. 900 bucks for a meaningless test. It would make the Mob blush.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Radiological Physics
The second edition of this text is a must have book for any Radiology Resident or Medical Physicist. Each topic's review is very comprehensive and written to the point. This text should be used by Residents and Medical Physicist prior to taking their certification exams. There are questions at the end of each chapter's subject and there are two mock board exams that will help the resident or physicist identify his or her weaknesses. ... Read more
