1-0 out of 5 stars These Aren't Flash Cards
I just received these. They're not flash cards. A flash card has a question (images, etc) on one side and answer(s) on the other. These cards just have info on both sides. They're review cards, not flash cards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for massage student or undergrad A and P
These cards make learning anatomy and physiology a lot easier. Sometimes you don't have the time to read big textbooks. However, I would recommend these study cards as a great source for learning the human body for massage students or college A and P students. I am a massage student and found these cards to be a very valuable source in helping me get very good grades. I also used, which is also on amazon.com:
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations
(Vol 1 ISBN: 0971999619) & (Vol 2 ISBN: 0971999627)
The author of these study guides seems to know the type of questions asked on my massage school anatomy and physiology tests. I have a few friends who also used these study guides for undergrad anatomy and physiology and found them to be quite helpful. I recommend getting all three books.

4-0 out of 5 stars review Anatomy & Physiology (Flash Cards)
I really liked the anatomy & physiology flash cards. I am a massage therapy student and find the cards a quick & concise outline on the specific topics I study in class. The pictures are a great help in review of the subjects also. I plan to recommend the set to my fellow students in massage school. ... Read more

Book Description

This practical review book meets the needs of family nurse practitioners preparing to take the national certification examinations. It provides content on both the FNP’s approach to practice based on the Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan, Evaluate (SOAPE) format and a format that accommodates both the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the test blueprint of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Sample test questions pertaining to the specific content reviewed are included at the end of each section. Test questions are classified according to the ANCC problem areas, the Academy domains, and across the lifespan, which allows students to focus their study efforts on those items causing the most difficulty. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent review
I benefited from the practice questions and exams. Excellent resource. It offers a good review of common problems/clinical issues with review questions following each topic. The CD-rom is useful, too, and worked perfectly for me. It contains three practice exams with 175-207 questions. I was scoring around 72% on the practice exams and passed the AANP exam yesterday! I would definitely recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars CD is flawed- Mosby will send you a new one
Mosby did discover that the CD is flawed somehow but they will send you a new one at no charge. Don't let the issue of the CD influence you in terms of the book. It is a great review book. There are lots of test questions- more than most other review books, along with rationale. If you have difficulty in getting the new CD( hopefully now all the books have the revised CD) please get in contact with me (drobin2530@aol.com). Denise Robinson, book editor

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for me!!
I enjoyed how the sections were separated by body system. It made it quite easy to study. Also, the review tests were likewise separated making it easier to diagnose my areas of weakness and my areas of strenght. This allowed me to focus more of my time on my weaknesses and not waste it on things I already knew. The two full-length tests were a good practice for the real thing. Best of all I PASSED!!

1-0 out of 5 stars The CD ROM is AWFUL!
If you are looking for a book with CD ROM to practice test questions on the computer...DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! The answers are incorrectly programmed so even though the rationales make sense, it is graded entirely wrong. Ditto what the other reviewers has to say about this major flaw...

1-0 out of 5 stars CD is very flawed!
DON'T BUY FOR THE CD-ROM! The rationales do not match up with the correct answer. On the practice test on the CD I got a score of 38, but when I went through the rationales it had marked the ones I had right (according to the rationale) wrong and vice versa. (I actually had a 82). There is no rhyme or reason to this flaw! I bought this b/c I wanted to practice with computerized questions, esp. since the test is computerized! The ANCC book is good but $$(NursingMall.org). Other good books - Fitzgerald, and Winland-Brown. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but nothing new.
I purchased this, and the size is nice, but there's nothing that's not in my school text book for care plans. I am returning it because I don't need 2 of the same thing. (I am a second year nursing student)

5-0 out of 5 stars Concise, Compact and well organized !
Practical pocket book with everything you need to help you write nursing care plans. Perhaps one day this resource will be available for my palm pilot!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is GOLD!
This has been a wonderful resource for writing my first care plans as a nursing student starting out in my clinical med/surg rotation. If you can only buy one book, buy this one. It's easy to use, specific, and all the diagnoses are arranged according to Gordon's functional health patterns. And there are really great "cheat sheets" in the front for SOAPIE notes and LOTS of short assessments (e.g. respiration, pain, elimination, etc.) It saves you from wanting to carry around your textbook in the hospital! Plus, it's just the right size and not heavy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the student nurse.
This book is great for the nursing student who is just learning about the nursing process and all of it's steps. Learning the nursing diagnosis's and all of the rationales is not an easy task to accomplish. This is a great book to help study and also to keep in your pocket for clinicals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pathophysiology Made EASIER!
The title is a lie. I don't think pathophysiology could ever be incredibly easy, and if it could be this book falls short of the mark. But for the sake of this review, I'm going to lower the mark. Pathophysiology will always require hard work to master, but oftentimes mastery is hindered by the presentation of information. It is in the presentation of pertinent information that Pathophysiology Made Incredibly Easy! excels.
The book contains 13 chapters. Each one focuses on a body system and the disorders affecting that system with additional chapters affecting systemic problems and issues like genetics, immunological disorders, infections, and cancer. The book cannot be and is not exhaustive, but that is not its purpose. The book covers the most often seen and most often discussed diseases. Each, for the most part, is presented in an easy-to-digest manner. Rather than use paragraphs, bullet points, summary graphics, and short sentences highlight the pertinent information. Finally the disease sections end with summaries of the test results that would indicate a particluar malady along with the current common treatments of that disease. There are also many case studies provided to reinforce learning in a practical way.
On the downside, I felt that the some of the cartoons were distracting and irreverent, especially in the context of some of the diseases being discussed. I understand the desire to make learning the diseases fun, but personally I think that irreverence to disease and the diseased may tend to make for unsympathetic care givers. Nevertheless, the book is useful for students of pathophysiology, especially those being exposed to the field for the first time. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!
I purchased the new 2004 Winland-Brown review book and CD. Not only were there many errors in the numbering of the questions AND the numbering of the answers, but the questions are not written at an entry level practitioner's knowledge level. The questions seemed out in left field and were much more difficult than other books that I have reviewed. There were several discrepancies from the Fitzgerald review CDs (2004. When I looked up the information, Fitzerald seems to be correct, not Winland-Brown. There was conflicting information in regards to fetal movement counts and prostatitis, and in other areas that I can't recall at this time. Don't waste your money. I recommend Fitzgerald's review course/CDs and book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Thorough but discouraging
I obtained a copy of the book from a former classmate. The sections are divided to focus on specific areas of need. The volume of practice questions in text and disk is great, BUT, I found most questions far more difficult than what was on the actual exam (in my case, I took the AANP version today). The practice questions may be very discouraging to some as I found it to be, however, try to remember that the exam may not be as indepth. Do take a review course or order review cassette tapes. I recommend the Advance Practice Education Associates (APEA) review by Amelie Hollier who is a likable, encouraging, excellent speaker who tells you what you need to know with memorable stories. Note: I am not affiliated with the company nor am I being coerced to sharing this. The Fitzgerald review course does not cover many conditions but what it does cover may be more indepth than is necessary for the exam. Good Luck to ALL!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!
Skip this one! Out of date questions with a lot of "All of the aboue" options that are NOT on the test. The practice disk is a waste as well. I found that questions were repeated frequently. Now I can't even open the disk- it keeps saying there is a file error.

Try Kidd & Robinson's or Fitzgerald's FNP certification reviews instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one to buy.
Used this book and can say that the disk was extremely helpful in terms of practicing for an online exam. If you are limited on time, and can't do a whole lot of review, just doing the disk review is a good place to start. Wish I had purchased this while in school, at the start, rather than waiting. Bottom line, I found this book to be very helpful in preparing for the FNP exam and I passed. So, it worked for me!

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
I bought this review mostly for the computer practice disk that came with the study guide. Before my FNP exam I would have rated this book a 4-5 star but now that I have taken the exam I rate it more poorly. The study guide questions offer a lot of "all of the above" for an answer choices but the exam did not have a single one. Also the guide had a lot of questions regarding percentages and again there were none on my exam. However, the guide did give some tips on test taking that were beneficial and did bring some areas of attention that I needed to practice more on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars excelent
To make it short: this is a very good book on Pediatric care. It includes most info that you will need to work succesfully on the PICU floor. Mainly for nurses, but majority of the text can be of use for neonatal/pediatric respiratory therapists. With a little improvement and a hardbound cover this book deserves a five star rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Manual of Pediatric Critical Care
This book has been extremely helpful in my practice as a PCCU nurse. It gives detailed information in an easy to read format for quick reference. I carry it with me always when I go to work. I highly recommend it!

2-0 out of 5 stars truly disappointed
I recently began working in a pediatric ICU. Although I had 9 years of pedi experience as a floor nurse, I knew I would need a solid reference to help in my transition to the many new procedures and medications I would need to learn. After obtaining this book, I was disappointed by what little it had to offer. I searched for some information on some very basic critical care issues (i.e. CVP) and found it woefully lacking. My only assumption is this text is written with the understanding that you own the larger more detailed book. If you are new to the critical enviroment and need basic, clear information, you may be better served with the larger more informative text. As for me, I will continue to refer to my old general pedi text, which currently is a better source.

5-0 out of 5 stars Manual of Pediatric Critical Care
I heard the author of this book at a conference, and KNEW I had to have her manual. She presents relevant information in such a clear, concise, and interesting manner. I will use this book as a teaching aide for my pediatric nursing course.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for all PICU RNs
This book is a must for any nurse working in a pediatric intensive care setting. It is an excellent resource that provides quick answers to questions! I take mine with me to work and it has come in handy numerous times! As a new nurse, I've been told by the more experienced nurses that this book will help me greatly and they were right! ... Auseful tool to find normal values and aceptable levels of every element of body fluids. Abrief desciption of each test is followed by lists of medical conditions that may influence the result. The design of professional considerations add more value to this book, since abnormal results not necessarily reflect abnormal medical conditions, they may as well come from various mistakes when preparing or handling the test, or influenced by the patient's previous medications. 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for primary care providers
I am a family nurse practitioner and a nurse practitioner educator. I found this book to be an excellent resource for primary care providers. The format is logical and easy to follow - it includes pathogenesis as well as physical findings, differential diagnosis, diagnostic tests and management. I especially liked the patient education material included with each entry. The guidebook has appendices on special diets, procedures, EKG interpretation etc. and the pharmaceutical information is up to date. We are planning to use Family Practice Guidelines as the protocol resource in our office.

5-0 out of 5 stars Full of practical ideas for clinicians
Helping patients change health-related behavior is a universal challenge for health care providers. In this extremely practical book, Rollnick and colleagues present a method for helping patients change based on the principles and "spirit" of Motivational Interviewing.

After presenting the basic concepts, each chapter focuses on a different task in the consultation process, from building rapport and setting an agenda to increasing motivation for change while minimizing resistance. The techniques presented are intended for use in brief consultations, but may be adapted for more extended encounters. Numerous clinical examples illustrating applications in diverse settings (and even some showing how NOT to do it) bring each strategy to life. Always respectful of the busy practitioner, the authors suggest ways for you to benefit from the book even if you have just a few hours to spend with it, and they encourage "creative adaptation" rather than "slavish adoption" of their approach.

If you want to become better at helping people change health-related behavior, and are new to a Stages of Change or Motivational Interviewing-based approach, this is a great place to start. If you have some experience with Motivational Interviewing, you will find a simplified model, a fresh take on familiar strategies, and probably some new ideas too. Reviewed by Deborah Van Horn, originally posted 3/6/02.

2-0 out of 5 stars not that great, not much "guide"ance
This book gave helpful perspectives regarding doctor-patient communication, but was not very enlightening. The problem might be that it was written from the perspective that the doctor is always correct, and the patient is always some poor sap who needs to be enlightened and trained as you would a child. I don't see this book awakening the human within some budding physician and transforming the physician into some effective communicator. The worst part was how many pages it took to convey helpful information.

I gave it more than one star because it does have good strategies in it, and I believe reading it would be better than reading nothing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, indeed
A simple, easy, and yet deep, thought-provoking book. ONLY ONE of this kind.

I am tring hard to implement some of their methods in Japan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rollnick et all rock!
Health Behavior Change dramatically simplifies and expands the Motivational Interviewing counseling style techniques underlined in Motivational Interviewing by Miller and Rollnick (1991). Health Behavior Change is very easy to read and provides a practical menu of "tools" that could assist individuals thinking and/or committed to behavioral change. Although the authors' targets are medical professionals, the book is a must for everyone involve in health care promotion and/or counseling (prevention workers, outreach workers, treatment advocates, drug and alcohol counselors, psychotherapists). It is also a great book to pass along to family members and anyone concerned in assisting others to move in the direction of change. The most important message: when we are moving in the direction of behavioral change, we need helpers who care, remain non-judgmental and help us tip the balance towards healthier behaviors. Assisting people to set their own realistic goals --however small, is crucial to facilitate meaningful, long lasting change. Love this book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and thought provoking
I am a nurse who has worked in the areas of AIDS Counseling and testing, Family Planning and now drug abuse prevention in a school. Sometimes I am called upon to talk to students and "get them worried" about their drug and alcohol use. Much of what I read felt too coercive with students and, in practice, evoked much resistance. This book contains readily applicable techniques for helping your hear your clients concerns better so that you do understand their behavior in the context of their real lives and allows you to help move them toward concern and possibly behavior change. This should be a book included in ALL nursing curricula because of it's readily hands-on use capacity. Surely, reading and applying the book has been a processs (and much like behavior change itself) not a quick fix application. Great stuff. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for the experienced nurse
This is a very good book for an academic setting or for a new RN. It was not however helpful to me, a nurse with more than two decades of experience. This book contains rudimentary information, with examples of excellent charting but as a quick reference for unusual circumstances I felt in was cumbersome at best. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Just started using these cards to prepare for an upcoming course and I know they will save me much time making my own. In addition, I've already learned all about the shoulder girdle (first section)! However, the only problem I have with this product is that it seemingly (I could be wrong but I'm pretty sur on this) does not include the muscles of the face. Despite that the product does have such a flaw I am sure my recent twenty dollar purchase is the best investment I have made in my studies yet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great study tool for high-schoolers to professionals
These cards are a must for people in the health care fields. They are wonderfully made for the first-time learner and for the person who needs a review. The text includes origins, insertions (although proximal and distal insertions are more accepted), action, reversed origin-insertion action, nerve supply, and synergists. The drawings and text closely follow Netter and Moore. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I just graduated from nursing school and the best book I had during school is this one. This was the only book that truly "spoke" to me about the realities of nursing school and I used it in all my courses. I plan to keep it handy because I know I am going to forget some of the information I learned about EKG's, Fluid & Electrolytes and some of the other things I may not use every day. These authors made me feel like they were talking to me, not at me and I enjoyed reading the information that they had to share. I also appreciated the numerous "short cuts" that I learned. The cartoon-like figures were always good for a chuckle and the examples in the book really fit my life. I highly recommend this book to anyone in nursing school no matter what level you are. Good luck! Keep studying! It's worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is the best book ever! I have used it since my first day in nursing school and I am amazed by how much helpful information fits into such a small book! I love the information about how to get along with faculty and also write papers, study, take tests, etc. Everything I've read I've been able to use. The section on the internet is fantastic and I've been able to use the links to find information for my patients and for those nasty care plans! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in nursing school and anyone who plans to go to nursing school. I plan to keep mine after I graduate because I know I'll be referring to it when I'm working. If you are struggling in nursing school, get this book! It will help! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Test Success: Test-Taking Techniques
Test Success: Test-Taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students 3rd ed. by Particia M. Nugent and Barbara A. Vitale
This book is designed for fundamentals of nursing. It introduces techniques for developing a positive mental attitude, critical thinking skills, and study techniques. It teaches specific and general test-taking techniques. It identifies the nursing process as a form of problem solving. The book emphasizes multiple-choice questions but also addresses structured response, restricted response, extended essay questions and performance appraisal as well as computer applications in education and evaluation. It facilitates active participation in learning by displaying over 700 questions with accompanying correct answers and rationale. There are three simulated tests of equal difficulty intended as a pretest, test after chapter eight, and a posttest in chapter 10. It is recommended that questions for specific categories in chapter 10 be answered after that content in discussed in class. Practice questions are in the following categories: the world of the patient and nurse, common theories related to meeting patient's basic human needs, communications and meeting patient's emotional needs, physical assessment, meeting patient's physical safety and mobility needs, hygiene and comfort needs, fluid and nutritional needs, elimination needs, oxygen needs, perioperative needs, microbiological safety needs, needs of the patient in the community setting, administration of medications and pharmacology. This is an excellent book for beginning nursing students to learn techniques of test success and to practice questions related to fundamentals of nursing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Test Success!
I have reviewed and used as a resource, Test Success; Test-taking Strategies for Beginning Nursing Students, 2000 (3rd Ed.). I found this text invaluable in my work with Junior-level BSN students.

This text incorporates the theory background, how to read questions, how to analyze questions, and then provides a wealth of practice questions relating to fundamental nursing skills.

This book begins with the mental and physical conditions for successful test-taking -- things students forget about. Positive mental attitudes, getting enough sleep before a test, and relaxation are a few of the "openers". The focus of this book is on the individual's success and the introductory chapters demonstrate this focus.

The text goes into critical thinking -- and expectations of thinking in nursing school. An indepth review of how to study is covered. This has helped raise a few test scores in my course. Most students never learn how to study. They get by fairly well, but when the assigned reading covers 100 pages of indepth material, they don't know how to organize it or plan for it. This book assists them in organizing the workload of reading and studying.

Test-taking strategies are complete, thorough, and have examples along the way. Once through the materials, students have multiple practice exams (written for Fundamentals students) that allow them to practice their new test-taking skills.

I recommend this book for all beginning nursing students -- LPN, ADN, and BSN! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fluid & Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy
Where was this book when I was in undergraduate school? Now that I am teaching nursing I have found it very useful in that it has given me a rare opportunity to present a very complex and hard to understand block of material is a manner much easier for students to understand. It is packed with easy to understand pictures, diagrams, and graphs that help teach the concept in a way that is "reader friendly". The illustrations are unbelievable and a great tool used by the author to present the ideas to the reader. I have even had requests from the Occupational Therapy faculty at our college to use the book for their lectures as well.. Great Job ! I would highly recommend it to anyone, whether a staff nurse or a faculty member at a university or college...

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for nurses!!
