Book Description Described by users as " the masters of the short sentence." Fessenden and Fessenden are renowned for their clear, to-the-point coverage and masterful selection of topics. The book provides a clear organization of functional groups according to sigma-bonding and pi-bonding to give students a conceptually efficient context that helps them understand the overall content of organic chemistry. Core topics for the course appear in Chapters 1-18 with more advanced and biochemical topics covered in 19-26. Essential information in each chapter is covered in earlier sections, leaving optional material for later sections. Reviews (6)

Book Description Few materials have impacted people's lives as extensively as fluoropolymers. The aim of this volume and a second companion volume is to compile a working knowledge of the polymer chemistry and physics of fluoropolymers with detailed descriptions of commercial processing methods. The book is a reference, as well as a source for learning the basics for those involved with manufacturing and part fabrication, as well as end-users of fluoropolymers and students. These volumes emphasize the practical over the theoretical, and contain numerous sources for in-depth information about the polymerization and polymer science of fluoropolymers. This book focuses on polytetrafluoroethylene and polychlorotrifluoroethylene and their processing techniques, which are essentially non-melt processes. The second volume will concentrate on melt-processible fluoropolymers. Key Features: - Compilation of disparate data from many sources - Extensive tables, graphs, charts, pictures and photographs - Crosses many different industries (included are examples of applications of fluoropolymers within different industries) Reviews (2)

The last 3 chapters are not review. They require some understanding of organic first. They are meant to reinforce and review what you learn in class. So you can't just jump for chapter 1 and 2 directly into 3. One and two are meant for prior to organic. And 3 through 5 are to be used during the class. It's definately got me several steps up on my classmates so far. Ken
However, for those of you who are clear on electrophiles and nucleophiles, this book would be perfect for you. I suspect that if you know those well, you might not need this book.

Book Description The new edition of this study guide makes learning organic chemistry much easier than with the usual textbook, and it shows how organic chemistry is applied today in biological chemistry, medicine and industry. Grasping the concepts of this daunting subject is much easier with the clear, concise explanations backed up with hundreds of concrete examples. Students learn how to solve problems step-by-step; they can further hone their skills solving additional problems with answers. Reviews (4)
I was able to gather some (a very small amount) useful information from it. But, pick the book up anyway, because to master Orgo you need as many resources as possible, especially at 3 in the morning and you are trying to figure out where to place an ethyl group. In addition to this book, grab an elementary type orgo book, like orgo for beginners or orgo for nursing majors. These type of books explain things with great detail using an ABC approach. Then do as many problems as you can! Buy a ring of notecards and write part of the reaction on the front and the rest on the back. Study these cards every night religiously. You should be able to make sense out of the reactions and pass the class with a good grade with a considerable amount of study. (I received an A using the above method)
The organic chemistry outline can be helpful to you, perhaps. The main draw is that each chapter includes a summary of reactions that might be worth it... if, that is, you already know which reactions are more useful than others. The amount of information is great, and this may make it difficult for you to sort out which ones are worth your attention. The Schaum's outlines are, in my opinion, great for those motivated students who would like to gain some knowledge of the subject. They can also help when you are stuck with a problem, as chances are you will find a solved problem in the book that is at least similar. Whether that is worth the cost is another question.
