4-0 out of 5 stars FACT OR FICTION???
Personally, I am open-minded on the subject of alien abductions and UFO's. I know to some that the above is "hogwash", but listen up, back in the cave man days, walking on the moon was ALSO "hogwash." Thousands of years later, believing that the SUN was the center of the universe was "hogwash." Breaking the sound barrier was "hogwash," too, to some. All I'm saying is: If he's telling the truth, fine. If not, then he's one good liar. He hasn't convinced me, but he didn't make any obvious boo-boos to discredit his tale. Basically, this story is about author Whitley Strieber and his supposed encounters with aliens. Most of the action takes place around his getaway cabin in New York. If you look at Mr. Strieber's other works (Warday, the Wolfen, etc.), you'll see that writing about aliens is sorta outta the way for him. It would be like a romance author suddenly writing Techno-thrillers. It just doesn't make sense. Of course, some authors ARE very versatile. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: Whether you believe in aliens or not, this is a very fun read. As a matter of fact, I've gotten several good ideas from his other books in the same series. Read the book for yourself, then decide, or stay open-minded, as I am.

5-0 out of 5 stars Long before X-Files.....
This book is a true classic among the hundreds of alien abduction books out there. Whitley Strieber writes with sincerity on his feelings and thoughts about his abduction experience, and to the reader he'll come down as just an average human being who had this extraordinary experience. I've read many alien abduction books since, and still feel "Communion" is the best.

As the other reviewers mentioned, it is a chilling story. Yes, I also suffered from nightmares after reading it. Strieber was already known for his other books before "Communion" ("The Hunger", "Wolfen", etc.) Interestingly, Strieber claims that his horror novels were based on his subconscious fears caused by his lifelong abductions, unbeknownst to him when he wrote the novels. Because it is so well written, I think even skeptics would find it at least entertaining if not enlightening. Without a doubt, it's one of the scariest books I've ever read.

Readers of "Communion" might also find "Report on Communion" by Ed Conroy also interesting. I also recommend any book by Budd Hopkins, or "The Andreasson Affair" series by Raymond Fowler.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, Questionable, and ....Believable?
It is important to go into this book with an open mind.
For me, the entire premise seems to exist outside of the realm of fiction and nonfiction, as both of these genres connate a certain type of book. Communion is neither. It is to be read and absorbed, not analysed or debated for its veracity. The premise of the story, for me, exists outside of what is "true" and what is not.

Rather than being a story about an alien abduction, it is much more about Strieber's own journey of realisation, discovery, and healing. The reviewers who say that this book frightened them, I can see why: The first fifty pages or so are fairly frightening. However, the other threehundred-odd pages deal with Strieber's grappling with how to heal himself, how to deal with what he had perceived to have happened.

It is important to read this book not as a science fiction or science fact book, but rather as a man's struggle to heal. I found some parts of this book to be slow and occasionally confusing. Additionally, Strieber's writing can be difficult to follow and repetitive. Finally, he tends to get a bit too "new-agey" for me at points. Despite this, however, you cannot help but to feel the resurgance of hope, the renewed faith and tenacity which he experiences with his facing of the unknown.
This book is not meant to be frightening, it is meant to be a testament to inner strength.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep an open mind
The events described in the book are hard to believe, the author admits as much. But what you learn from Communion is that there is a lot to learn if you can keep an open mind. Give the story a chance and you may come away with a different way of thinking than you had before. I think thats all the author really wants people to do. I loved the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Honey, I'll be back soon - Gone to buy a night light."
I was twelve years old when I first saw the image on the cover of this book worn on a novelty button by one of my friends. I promised myself to one day read it. Seventeen years later I did. Perhaps some day I'll see the darkness in my bedroom as innocent and relaxing as I did before. Maybe the blackness imbedded in the corners of my room will one day stop getting a second glanse, "Just to make sure." Strieber has an uncanny ability of descriptive writing. The images are formed so well that I found it far too easy to visualize the events and faces of the "visitors" in this book. I wasn't expecting to find such interesting historical facts along with the deep philosophical approach presented in this book. It will leave you thinking and you will carry parts of it with you even after it is shelved. As far as I am concerned - A Must Read! - Just... Leave a light on. ... Read more

Book Description

This is an introductory book that examines the idea of creation in a different light. In contrast to the notion that humans are the result of creation, it explores the idea that the collective humanoid consciousness created our universe for specific purposes. The Prism of Lyra explores those purposes, and then traces several off-planet races (such as those from the Pleiades, Sirius, and Orion) through their own evolution and ties them to the evolving Earth. Highlighted is our galactic interconnectedness and our shared desire to return Home. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars interesting but not beyond
The book gives a lot of information, but without really going into it. I think that it leaves out a lot of details that are very important. It seems like bits and pieces have been glued together. In all fairness: the writers give a disclaimer: they do not claim to tell the ultimate truth and say that it is up to the reader to get out of the book what they need. This seems to be correct and fair.

In my opinion the first two (the creation) and the last two (our future goals) chapters were the most useful. However overall I would advice to read: No More Secrets, No More Lies by Patricia Cori instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars An incredible mind-opening, page turner.
Lyssa Royal, channeling the words of Germaine, Shasha and Akbar brings forth the first definitive explaination of who we are and where we are going. This book traces the history of the our star-born ancestors struggle with polarity (Service to Self vs. Service to Others) from the absolute beginning of time and the creation of all-that-is, to the present day. The Prism of Lyra, sets forth the reason why we are dealing with so much conflict during this present age and assures us that we will make the transition to the new-age. It is a magical read. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars e pluribus unum
The primary focus of _Visitors From Within_ is an analysis of the Zeta Reticuli species (my absolute favorite of all our ET friends), which is probably the best-known race in UFO "abduction" cases. But a nice inclusion is how they relate to we humans.

The Zetas' planet, Apex, was much like present day Earth. It was also an effort to include both positive and negative energies in an attempt to create a balance. Theirs was a planet rules by hatred & warfare. Unfortunately, it was much more pronounced and they ended up destroying their planet. Centuries before this, they decided to start a colony beneath their planet surface, and once there they used their knowlege of genetics and cloning to "X" out emotions--naively believing that to be the core of their past mistakes. They also joined themselves into a single collective mind to eliminate the chance of individual mistakes again.

Their hopes that the opposite extreme was any better were quickly dashed, and now they're here trying to fix that. We humans re-present their past as well as their future. We are closest to them, genetically, which is why they come to us instead of going to the Lyrans, Sirians, Pleiadians, etc. to get what they need from our DNA to fix their error. There's another more intricate reason.

Unfortunately, we are not all too pleased to greet them, since they represent the opposite of us and all we hold dear. We represent not only the opposite of everything they have become over the last few hundred thousand years, but also a reminder their past; so they're equally--if not MORE--afraid of what we are. However, this book fails to clearly explain how they can be both emotionless and 'afraid' of us. Not a major fault, just something I'm very curious about.

The chapter devoted to the hybrid projects is my favorite. It is both saddening to read about the physical deterioration of the first generations of hybrids, as well as uplifting to read of their incredible bravery. There is also a chapter discussing the "abductions" of prisoners and mental patients, which is something no other ET book I've read touches upon.

The underlying question this book poses: Will we end up consumed by our hatred and extreme individuality and end up destroying ourselves as the Zetas once did to their race, or will Zetas and Terrans overcome our fears, work together, and one day emerge side by side; a beautiful balance--an inspiration to all life in the universe that even extreme opposites can become a unified coalition? It's in our hands.

1-0 out of 5 stars I found it difficult to get through
I picked up this book with the intention of learning what people who believe in alien abduction believe about their experiences. I suppose I could say I am completely neutral on this topic.

I found this book very difficult to get through. I found the writing style to be terribly dry, and the theories were based on no proof. I loaned this book to a friend who does believe in UFOs, and she also had trouble getting through this book and actually said it was quite a laugh, and one of the worst books she has ever read. So, no, I would not recommend this book. The only thing I really liked about this book is the noirish drawing of an alien on the cover. In my opinion, aliens are a matter of proof and not belief. This book does not offer any proof of their existence.

5-0 out of 5 stars The abduction phenomena explained from a larger context.
In my opinion, together with 'The Prism of Lyra' and 'Preparing for Contact' (all from Royal-Priest), this book concludes the basic trilogy for anyone who wants to know more about the abduction phenomena specifically, and E.T. contact in general. As a matter of fact, the abductions are just a symptom of a much more fundamental interaction between the Zetas and the Human race, and both will benefit tremendously from it. These books explain the mechanics, the why and the how, of extraterrestrial contact. Forget the fear and the hype, and go right to the facts: it will enlighten you and inspire you, for these books present a vision of intergalactic cooperation, as well as personal and planetary evolution. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It's What's Below That Counts
In "Subterranean Worlds Inside Earth," author Timothy Green Beckley has collected many stories from a vast wealth of sources on the subject of what is often called "The Inner Earth Theory." The theory holds that the Earth does not consist of molten metal at its core, as modern science tells us, but is instead quite hollow inside, and supports several different races of sentient beings as well as their impressive underground cities. Those cities are said to be linked to one another by underground tunnels with aboveground openings that the occasional surface-dwelling mortal stumbles on to.

Much of the information Beckley presents comes from a man named Richard Shaver, a spot welder on the Detroit automobile assembly lines who one day began to hear strange voices projected at him as he went about his work. Following the trail that began with that unearthly auditory experience, Shaver eventually came to the conclusion that the voices were coming from somewhere beneath the Earth, from a race of creatures he came to call the "Deros," which is short for "degenerate robots."

The Deros have a story of their own. They were once a gentle race who lived on the surface of the Earth, until it became apparent that the sun was being transformed in some way that caused an increase in the amount of a form of dangerous radiation contained in its rays. Some of the Deros escaped the planet by going into space in their highly-developed spacecraft, but not all of them managed to do so.

Those forced to remain went underground and built the cities referred to above, but the sun's poisonous radiation also caused them to go insane and to develop cruel and sadistic personality traits. It is because of their evil madness that mankind suffers so much today, and Shaver himself experienced some bizarre mistreatments as he sought to learn more about the mysterious Deros. Shaver eventually published many of his Dero tales in a magazine called "Amazing Stories," which were so popular that they greatly increased the magazine's circulation.

But Shaver's story of the Deros is only one of many versions of exactly what is down there in the Hollow Earth. Beckley also offers stories by journalist John J. Robinson and others whose research has turned up different legends and personal experiences, some of which tell of a hidden paradise below our feet where beautiful, spiritually benevolent creatures reside.

Beckley's use of numerous and divergent reports helps to paint a wonderfully complete picture of the centuries of folklore that have become mingled with scientific fact through real-world investigations into the "Subterranean Worlds Inside Earth." Some of what's here stretches credibility a little more than might be totally comfortable. But if you have an appetite for unsolved mysteries that extend beyond the realm of the safe and the knowable, then Beckley's thorough overview of what may be inside the Hollow Earth is well worth the time spent reading it.

4-0 out of 5 stars IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION OF STORIES
I once met the author at a conference a number of years ago. I understand he has been a student of the paranormal since he was very young. He told me he was raised in a house that was haunted and had an out of body experience early in life. He had his first UFO sighting at the age of l0. He did a column called ON THE TRAIL OF THE FLYING SAUCERS for Ray Palmer's magazine and he used to correspond with Richard Shaver who claimed that he had been in the caves and been attacked by the dero. Its all very strange. Beckley tells it best in this book. There are literally dozens of stories about individuals who have met the inner earth dwellers. Its easy to read -- Beckley has a breezy style of writing. Its exciting and will keep you turning the page. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential if you wanna know what is really flying out there.
Thing is, the UFO story is one where one has to dedicate a lot of time before he could even come close to any informed view about it.
What is really flying out there, and more importantly, is there anything weird or "non-earthly" flying out there at all??
That's what this book tackles. Flying craft having the appearance of the now cult "flying disc" were on the drawing boards since the 30s actually. This is fact, proven by several documents that the Nazis left behind. Whether these craft actually ever flew or were tested reamins a question, but there is enough evidence to suggest that not only they did fly, but that such craft were actually tested all through the 50s the 60s and the 70s.
It's quite plausible that "flying disc§ shaped craft are today's most precious military secret.
From there on it gets foggy. Why are they still a secret? That question begs an answer, an answer that for the time being ahs not been adequately answered.
But for anyone interested in the topic, this is essential reading. It's a very well "constructed" book, it provides actual data (photos, diagrams, dates, names, documents)..And it attempts (to a very satisfactory degree) to sift through the myth and the truth. You cant call yourself a serious researcher in the UFO lore without having read this.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best book on "Man-Made" UFOs
Packed with illustrations, this is the best book on the unusual subject that many UFOs are part of a top-secret project that began during WWII. Vesco was an Italian aircraft engineer who knew what he was talking about. He claims that Foo Fighters were developed in Germany, as were "discoid" craft. These German scientists then were moved to New Mexico where they created the secret space program. This book will amaze the reader with many references and the history of Project Paperclip scientists and the genisis of "flying saucers" made on Earth by humans. I love this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Important history of German and American saucer projects
One of the more important books of this decade! Their research and explanation of UFO's is a seldom heard alternative to the other 2 choices: aliens or natural phenomenom. The long cover up of US involvement in saucer projects is starting to unravel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well done
This book gives the reader an uncomplicated way to understand who the otherworldly beings are. She input some of her own experiences along with how you can have your own. There were many inserts in the book that touched on the Spiritual aspect which is where all things in life begin. If you want to know more about otherworldly beings then this is the book to read. The last nice aspect of the book is Lisette always says you have a choice to do this or not. She lets it be your decision. Thank you Lisette.

5-0 out of 5 stars Calling on Extraterrestrials
I had the pleasure of reading Lisette Larkins book, entitled Calling on Extraterrestrials. I found Lisette's book to be fascinating. It is very hard for folks to except that others from else where are visiting this planet. It also takes a brave person to step up and tell their story. Lisette has done just this and gave us all something to think about. These are her personal experiences with extraterrestrials in which Lisette is relating to us all and giving us some insight on how these beings interact with so many of us.

As an UFO/Abduction investigator I found the book to be refreshing, well written, and I would recommend that others add it to their collection. It shows what people can achieve with an open mind.

I also have Lisette Larkins other books, "Talking to Extraterrestrials" and the new book which will be out on book shelves in May 2004, Listening to Extraterrestrials. I am looking forward to sitting down and reading these enjoyable books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing and very inspirational
Whether you believe in extraterrestrials or not, this is a great philosophy by which to lead and live one's life. Unfortunately, as is often the case with anything that clashes with the accepted "norm," Ms. Larkins' book will be met with ridicule and accusations of fraud. Fortunately, she has the will and courage to perservere. A great read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Without substance
This book is truly a waste of paper. The author wants us to believe, without offering any evidence, this "conversational" style junk. This same conversational style junk was used in the "Conversation with God" series (by the way, Lisette Larkins was an assistant to Neal Walsch). This conversational style seems to give an air of authenticity to a subject matter that the author has no qualification to speak to us about. Most authors, when they speak to us about a particular subject matter, have the qualification, record of accomplishment, and experience to speak to us about that subject matter with authority. But in this case, including the conversation with God series, the authors have used a clever ploy (conversational style) of using an imaginary "being" to speak to all of humanity and to hide the fact that they have no qualification whatsoever to speak to us about such serious matters.

If you really want to have a good laugh, please go ahead and read this book. However, if you are serious about this subject matter, please do not bother to read this or any of her other unsubstantiated books.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very dangerous indeed
It takes a deep cynicism of human spirit and potential.
It takes a self loathing and a despair of human goodness and potential.
It takes an enormous recklessness to give up on humanity and call in alien intervention, to open yourself and your planet up to intrusion, manipulation and occupation by unknown peoples.
What if they are just like us? What if their intentions are conquest, subjugation, and oppression? Can you discern the intent of the visitors? Do you know why they are here?
This book invites readers to jump head first into a very unbalanced relationship, a dangerous relationship. Do you really know what the visitors are capable of? Do you have the strength to enter into relationship with them on equal footing? I sure don't. ... Read more

Book Description

A group of Andromedans visited a University of Mexico professor of physics and atomic energy, Professor Hernandez (not his real name), in the 1970s and early 1980s.He was given highly technical information on a method to manufacture a shield around any jet plane, which would then allow pilot and passengers to fly to Mars—or whatever planet or star they wanted to reach— in comfort and safety. But because of where and how the professor lived, the times and other factors, he was not able to use this incredible information. After many visits from the ETs and an expansion in consciousness, he was committed to a mental institution.Shortly after he was released, he was last seen sitting in a park near his home in his walking shorts reading a newspaper. He never returned to his home that day—he disappeared forever. His journals were taken and the information from the Andromedans was never made public.

Before he was forced to enter the mental institution, the professor had talked to a UFO researcher in Mexico, Ms. Zitha Rodriguez, and she had written down what he said in shorthand.Unfortunately, when she came to transcribe her notes, she did not understand the scientific words and so was unable to re-create exactly what the professor had told her.Nevertheless, she published what she had. Then Wendelle Stevens transliterated the Spanish of Ms. Rodriguez’s book into English and published it in his UFO Contact series to make the information available to the public.

Now, speaking through superchannel Robert Shapiro, the Andromedans who contacted the professor tell us what really happened. They give instructions for the shielding technology so that scientists who have the background can use it.They also clear up all the questions one would have after reading the Spanish or English book and supply a lively account of their lives and other adventures they had when they came to Earth. Each crew member of the spaceship speaks: Leia, the scientific liason, the two scientists—and then, as an extra treat, Leia's daughter and her playmate contribute to the story. ... Book Description

In this explosive and compelling book, author Brian Desborough explores the activities of the thirteen interconnected family bloodlines that collectively comprise the secret group known as the Illuminati. His years spent aiding survivors of Satanic ritual abuse and mind control has provided the author with an in-depth knowledge of Illuminati history and their future plans for the human race.

The culmination of three decades of intensive research, this provocative book is designed to take readers out of their comfort zone and examine the historical and archaeological data, which reveal that:

¡¤

Israel was created not by illiterate pastoralists, as is claimed by biblical scholars, but by skilled Kenite copper smelters.

¡¤

The Dead Sea Scrolls were not written at Khirbat Qumran.

¡¤

The Temple Mount is not the site of the Temples of Solomon and Herod.

Applying a synthesis of history, politics, science and covert intelligence sourcethe author explores such diverse subjects as mind control, advanced energy systems, terrestrially constructed flying saucers, extraterrestrials, and the planned double-cross of the western Illuminati factions by China and Russia.

Oriented toward both the scholar and layperson, this revealing book is a "must read" for those interested in history, politics or high technology.

This book is probably one of the best you can find if you want to know the TRUTH behind the history of the world, religion, true knowledge, media, extraterrestrials, mind-control, and who really controls the world. DO NOT read this book if you are not an open minded reader and/or someone seeking big picture possibilities that are not normally given through mainstream media or mainstream education (public schools, colleges, etc.). This is one of my favorite books and I highly recommend it. I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone interested in this book to check out any books written by David Icke and/or check out infowars.com which is 100% documented research by activist Alex Jones. Also check out Behold A Pale Horse by William Cooper who is now dead (murdered by our government). Check out information on the web about the Bohemian Grove, Skulls and Bones, the Illuminati, the New World Order..... The list goes on and on. Take what you want, make what you want, and believe what you want, but by all means please do the research for yourself and whithout a doubt, you will see the universe completely differently. Also, if you haven't a clue as to what I'm babbling about, this stuff is probably not for you, but don't take my word for it, just check it out. Soon this knowledge might be your only chance at physical, mental and spiritual freedom. HELP RELEASE THE BLANKET THAT HAS COVERED THE EYES SOCIETY FOR CENTURIES.

5-0 out of 5 stars MILABS is a startling, eye-opening book!
MILABS is a real tour-de-force. The Lammers have convincingly argued that the United States military is very covertly kidnapping a select group of people for reasons that are very obscure. We live in a world of dark illusion, and the Lammers have shone the light of their research into a dark corner where the Pentagon's clandestine operations scuttle and scurry. This is virtually the only book of its kind on this topic, and really rips the shroud of secrecy. The relationship between mind control, covert military operations targeted against civilians and the UFO and alleged alien abduction phenomena is a strange one -- but the Lammers have made an informative and enlightening opening into this secretive arena. I give MILABS five stars and two thumbs up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating stuff
Anybody with a serious interest in aliens should take a look at this book. It does a good job exploring the shady, often ambiguous connection between alien abductees and the US military. This is something other abduction books don't deal with much, but the authors present enough evidence to convince me something's going on.

I came away reasonably sure that a monitoring program is in place, whereby the military re-abducts people soon after aliens have taken them (a kind of forced debriefing to find out all they can about the Greys).

There are dark hints that covert research is being done into exotic mind-control and genetic management/manipulation. You get the creepy feeling from this book that no matter how wild X-FILES may get, it's not as wild as reality! It's as if there's a new Manhattan Project underway, only now it's about aliens. Very Kafkaesque. I wonder now if I want to be around the day this all comes out into the public - could get pretty ugly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Facinating Book!
Professor Harrison's treatment of this topic was excellent and the book was really fun to read! As a psychology student I really enjoyed this book, not because I'm a fan of SciFi, (I am), but because Harrison's points are so well supported and tied in to existing research in psychology and many other fields. By the end of the book, you start to think you'd want Al Harrison to be on the team that made first contact with ET. (I wonder if the writers of the movie Sphere where aware of this book.) Harrison's After Contact made me consider many practical aspects of contact with intelligent life from another world. Even as a long time Star Trek and Sci Fi fan, this book was full of new and facinating ideas to consider, all the more facinating because the decisions outlined in the book that we'd need to make regarding contact are real. Bravo.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most thoughtful book on the topic of ET contact
AFTER CONTACT: The Human Response to Extraterrestrial Life Albert A. Harrison, Ph.D. Plenum Trade, 1997

Most people have become comfortable with the notion that there may be intelligent extraterrestrial life elsewhere in the universe. Even the conservative astronomer Carl Sagan calculated that it was mathematically probable that such life must exist. Sagan's book Contact, later made into the 1997 movie of the same name, postulated that a life form could contact humans here on earth. The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute employs people using radio telescopes to explore the heavens for signs of intelligent life. Recently the National Air and Space Administration created the NASA Astrobiology Institute (NABI) to consider the development of ET life forms. NABI examines the possibility from the standpoint of materials and conditions necessary to support life. They also consider the implications of the origin of life and question whether ! ! life is a cosmic imperative.

In After Contact Professor Al Harrison of the University of California-Davis thoughtfully takes the obvious next step. In pragmatic detail he examines the human consequences of contact with such an intelligent extraterrestrial entity. Except for fictional accounts, no one previously has explored as comprehensively the many ramifications such contact would pose for those of us who live in what we believe to be technologically advanced societies. Just what would happen if we learned that we were not at the top of the evolutionary pyramid?

Harrison first lays out the background information surrounding current search methodologies used by SETI and their radio-telescopic efforts to listen for signs of life. He also covers the supporting probabilities that mathematically suggest that some form of extraterrestrial life should exist elsewhere in the universe. It is not just in independent evolution of ETI on some far distant planet that l! ! ife could exist, but also through a seeding or colonizatio! n effort. The search for ETI, he argues, requires a broad multidisciplinary approach. The complexities of communication should contact be established demand that a wide variety of sciences would be necessary including biologists, physicists, chemists, computer scientists and linguists just to name a few. Harrison states that while there is no compelling evidence that we have been visited by an ETI, there are sufficient clues to make exploration worthwhile. Further, the enormity of the impact on society dictates that these are prudent steps.

In an overview of popular literature regarding UFOs and other aerial phenomena, he demonstrates a breadth of understanding of the material widely available to the general public. This is an important addition as it provides the background from which people are making decisions about their beliefs in ETI and probability of contact. It also shows why there is a dramatic disconnect between the general population and most mains! ! tream scientists.

Living systems theory of James Grier Miller serves as a foundation for considering how extraterrestrial organisms and societies might function. Based on building blocks of matter, energy, and information, living systems theory is a logical approach to potentially disparate life forms. After all, there is no known reason for unanimity among advanced extraterrestrial life forms. Harrison goes beyond the organism level and considers what factors might impact ET societies. These include such varied considerations as resource bases, processing of information, decision-making strategies, adaptation and use of energy, and development of culture. He then addresses the fundamental issues related to first contact; how it might be made, who would do it, and how that information would be transmitted to the public.

After Contact considers the various ways in which information concerning ETI existence would be received and acted upon by the public. There ! ! are many fictional accounts of ET contact, as well as scie! ntific studies of people exposed to unusual or stressful events, from which inferences of psycho-social reactions can drawn. The individual and societal differences in responding to such a dramatic discovery are examined.

Travelling beyond the initial encounter, Harrison discusses the inevitable complex issues in building of relationships between the ETI and humans. In this section he has considered in some depth just what types of interactions might transpire. He then explores the consequences to our societal structures such as the economy, political systems, impact on values and beliefs, and differentials in technological development.

After Contact is a comprehensive and thought-provoking examination of the inscrutable aspects of an encounter between humans and an advanced extraterrestrial intelligence. It is a must for anyone interested in the possibility that an initial event might occur within his or her lifetime. The book is a landmark publication and ! ! serves as a signpost for directing further research into a most fascinating, and under resourced area of science.

4-0 out of 5 stars Where did God go?
I read this book simply for pleasure. I am a science teacher by eduaction so why not get a few fresh ideas about exo-biology.
The problem human searches for intelligence is we are seeing it around us everyday and disgrading it as life on Earth. For example how probable is it that molecules can conspire to generate a living system, then advance to a level where the molecules now build a complex living system ? How probable is it that the sum could so exceed its whole? A conscious being arises from a system of what we believe is dead and lifeless atoms.
We should behold the World about us, as it is as close as we will ever get to seeing what alien life is all about.

4-0 out of 5 stars STOP! FOR GOD'S SAKE STOP!
A very good book but....consider this: Two workers are about to begin bulldozing. They notice a couple of ant hills. One comments,"Gee, they're clever little guys." The other agrees. Then, a few minutes later, they begin work and completely destroy the colony without a thought. By now, we all agree that the cosmos is downright filthy with intelligent life. A super-advanced intelligent life form would be all too aware of this. If their projects called for it, they would think nothing of eliminating far lesser life forms. They would be no more malcious or evil than the two workers mentioned above.Someday, we will indeed discover other intelligences. When we do let us assume the "Mother of all low-profiles" Contact, assuming we haven't \ been detected, is the LAST thing we want until after one incredibly profound investigation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Not Both?
No book review, merely a reply:

SETI research these days is supported almost entirely by private funds, companies and individuals. If Mr. Carlberg feels that's a problem, a more constructive solution might be for him to work towards finding funding for the projects he prefers. It's hardly as if greedy astronomers are somehow snatching public funds away from primate research, after all. ... Read more

Book Description

Extraterrestrials medical teams heal humans in alternative medical clinics. Aliens from another dimension contact and collaborate with medium healers on a daily basis. Patients, healers testimony and Aliens contact channelings on video CDROM is included as evidence.

And here is a message from the Alien received in 1996:

Life — the development of complex biological systems that reproduce themselves—is the most wondrous occurrence in the universe. An additional, wondrous event occurring in the universe is the development of consciousness—that is, the being conscious of itself and of its surroundings. These are the two wonders of creation and for these wonders our gratitude goes to a higher power, which we know as God. The mathematical probability of these two events occurring together approaches zero, and yet it has occurred. To our surprise, it has not occurred once, but many, many times and it continues to occur today; evidently, it will continue to occur in the future—the development of new life forms that reproduce themselves and the concurrent development within these life forms of conscious thought.

Intelligent life takes diverse forms across many different types of matter. Some of them are unknown to us even though our researchers are engaged in unceasing efforts to discover and study new life forms, which are encountered all the time throughout the infinite space of the universe. Your planet is one of the sources of life that we have discovered and currently are studying.

Beyond pure scientific research, we also provide assistance to developing civilizations that we believe are deserving of our help. Some cultures move in a negative direction toward self-destruction, representing a danger to themselves and to other cultures; we do not assist such civilizations. On the other hand, to civilizations with a potential for development on the path of Light, that is, positive development, we give many forms of assistance. Our aim is to help these developing civilizations to achieve, as quickly as possible, a stable state of existence that will ensure them long-term continued existence without danger of extinction. In other words, we help them toward accelerated technological development.

The process of providing aid starts with an in-depth study of the civilization in order to ascertain whether or not our assistance is warranted. If we decide to provide assistance, we then decide on the best way to assist. This study of the civilization is very broad in scope and conducted in cooperation with interplanetary organizations—organizations that bring together a huge diversity of life forms from tens of millions of populated planets that represent the cultured life of the universe, life forms with consciousness. We want you to be aware of the importance of your work with us on a worldwide scale, regarding your own planet, and an interplanetary scale. You are part of a great effort.

Medical treatment is only one element in the efforts to motivate human beings to come into contact with us. Without medical treatment, we surmise that the points of contact between us and humans would be minimal. One of the aims of treatment is to learn about the nature of human biological and psychological systems through case studies of patients. At the same time, we are continually learning how to treat humans and improving our methods and techniques.

You no doubt have noticed the wide range of aliens that have been taking part in the medical teams. These teams frequently are replaced by new teams to allow a greater number of life forms to come into contact with humans. The more contact we have, the more we can come closer to you and offer our help.

It could be said that most of the planets taking part in this effort are in the stages of initial evaluation. Each planet is entitled to decide for itself whether it wants to be part of the efforts to help the planet Earth or not, or any other developing planet anywhere in the ... Read more

Reading Adrian Dvir's book is a life-changing experience. We accompany the author on his journey from the uneasiness of unexplained experiences, through the inescapable recognition that something he knew little about was happening to him, to his decision to investigate. As the author, a scientifically-minded computer engineer, learns about the other-dimensional world, so too worlds of new dimensions open before the reader and we are rewarded with a glimpse at the enormity of what we don't know. We are but a new-born speck in the universes of life-forms. Other intelligences are here and they are helping. Given the first-person accounts, reports and actual results, this conclusion is unavoidable, despite the ridiculous human tendency to smile and dismiss such concepts. For those readers brave enough to absorb and embrace shatteringly revolutionary concepts - the world, the universe and our place in it, are irrevocably changed. This book is KEY. Here's the rub:

The Illuminati believe that humans have tapped into a multidimensional quantum intelligence matrix life form, probably from Sirius. This kind of lifeform manifests in our consciousness as "greys" and such. And for this lifeform, they are constructing a technological matrix grid which we now know as the internet. Human minds will tap in to, and ultimately be controlled by, an electromagnetic and brain implant technology.

Whether or not you believe the fundamental assumption that this view presents, you cannot argue against the fact that the technology does exist, and is being used actively on a mass level. Are you ready for the matrix? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ...
I must admit I bought this book as a rather light read. I expected to be finished within a few months. Bathroom material only. However as I got past the first chapter I began to read it more steadily. AFter only three days of owning the book I had read the entirety of the book and had began to search for small details. Anyone interested in Chupacabras or crypto-zoology, or even "Goblin universe" phenomena should check this book out. It reads easily and has a very nice style. I thought something would be lost in the translation, however I do not think so. All ideas are given a footing here (although not always equal) and it makes the mystery of Chupacabras very intriguing.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book
I fealt that Chupacabras and Other Mysteries was a good book if your into it. It had some loco information on the feared bloodsucker. The only thing that upset me was that it only had drawings of the beast, but I suppose any actual pictures would be disturbingly cheesy. If your looking for information on this creepy guy, this is definately the book to choose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exposes the Chupacabras creature! (revised review)
The Chupacabras remains a paranormal phenomenon not well understood where it appears, and even less so with interested US readers. Chupacabras and Other Mysteries provides the first substantive English work dealing with the bugger. It relies on the primary research and work of Jorge and Marleem Martin, who made first-hand investigations of animal mutilations attributed to the Chupacabras in the Puerto Rican municipalities of Orocovis and Morovis, and the book also uses the work of Jose Victor Ramirez, Willie Durand Urbina, Salvador Freixedo and other researchers, plus countless journalistic sources (El Vocero, El Nuevo Dia, The San Juan Star.) Chupacabras and Other Mysteries includes a photo section, none of the elusive creatures, but of kittens they "exsanquinated," haunts, and the original sketch based on eyewitness memory. Chupacabras is not a run-of-the-mill hide and seek type bigfoot. A wide variety of paranormal activity attends its visits. As UFO researcher Marc Davenport points out in the introduction, the creatures' reported eye-beams do not behave like the bio-luminesence of fireflies and deep sea fish. Chupacrabras is something else again, and this volume contributes greatly to helping figure out what.

Firestorm: Dr. James E. McDonald's Fight For UFO Science is the amazing biography by Ann Druffel of a man who crusaded and nearly accomplished the critical scrutiny of UFOs through the eyes of mainstream scientific inquiry. Delving into the world of political manipulations and trade-off deals, as well as outlining the immense effort involved in getting people merely to take notice, Firestorm is a fascinating life study which is most especially recommended reading for any UFO Studies enthusiast.

At last an inside look at what happened during an all too brief episode in UFO investigation history. What troubles me is the sense that McDonalds great scientific knowledge, insight, and judgement makes no difference in the world at large. His ongoing disagreements with Dr. Hynek spotlight the political reality that you just are better off keeping unpopular opinions to yourself. McDonald believed in the power of science as a rational technique for prying the truth out of nature; that even the force of "political correctness" would fall under the persistent weight of a scientific approach. As druffel's book documents, Hynek disagreed and maintained his scientific standing by not rocking the boat. There is a dark, ominous cloud hanging over 'Firestorm', the knowledge that McDonald eventually killed himself. I deliberately read slowly, savoring each sentence, almost trying to avoid getting to the end. This is not just another UFO book, it's about a lot more than that and I wish there were a way to gain it a wider audience. Don't read it looking for some cheap new UFO thrill, instead read it to stand witness to a remarkable mind and his incredible fight with the intellectual community at large.

4-0 out of 5 stars A superb biography, BUT...
Ann Druffel's "Firestorm" is a serious-minded, scholarly, and well-written biography of one of the most important figures in UFO history: Dr. James McDonald. McDonald (1920-1971), was an atmospheric physicist at the University of Arizona, and was thus perfectly qualified to lead a scientific study of the UFO phenomenon. In the 1950's McDonald had his own UFO sighting, and this experience led him to begin a private, quiet investigation of UFOs which would last for many years. In the early-to-mid 1960's McDonald went to the staff of Project Blue Book, the Air Force's official study of UFO sightings, and began to look at the UFO cases in their files. And what he found appalled him: not only was Blue Book's staff scientifically unqualified to investigate UFO's, but the Air Force's hard-line "Anti-UFO" policies had caused Blue Book's staff to simply "make up" many of their "explanations" for UFO incidents out of thin air, without even a brief investigation or interviews with the eyewitnesses. By the late 1960's McDonald had investigated hundreds of UFO cases - including many from the 1940's and 1950's which the Air Force had claimed to have "solved" - and offered convincing evidence that the cases were still "unsolved". He also used his scientific expertise to critique the beliefs of UFO "debunkers", such as Dr. Donald Menzel, a Harvard University astronomer and fierce UFO critic. Unlike McDonald, Menzel refused to interview UFO witnesses (since in his view UFOs couldn't possibly exist, any UFO witness was obviously mistaken in their observation and therefore interviewing them was a "waste of time"). Menzel's "armchair investigations" of UFO cases were often revealed by McDonald to be unscientific and illogical. Menzel, who was never able to specifically rebut McDonald's scientific and forceful criticisms of his UFO "explanations", resorted to personal attacks on McDonald, calling him a "pseudoscientist" and a "crank". As Druffel notes, this would become a pattern with McDonald's critics - they would often ignore McDonald's thoroughly-investigated, detailed studies of UFO cases - and would instead concentrate upon attacking him personally. By 1966 McDonald was convinced that the UFO mystery was real and that it posed a major "challenge to science", and so he devoted himself full-time to investigating the phenomenon and to convincing the mainstream scientific community of his beliefs. He quickly emerged as a leading spokesman for "Ufology" - the scientific study of the UFO phenomenon. In effect, McDonald mounted a one-man crusade to convince his fellow scientists, and the general public, that UFOs were "serious business" and a subject worthy of scientific study. When the US government created the "Condon Committee" in the late 1960's to study the UFO phenomenon and see if a "final explanation" could be found, McDonald eagerly offered his services to the committee. Given his extensive research into the subject and his impeccable scientific credentials, McDonald was a logical choice to serve on the Condon Committee, but he was not chosen as a committee member. The reason for this snub soon became clear, as the Committee's two leaders, Dr. Edward Condon and Dr. Robert Low, were revealed to be hard-line UFO debunkers, and both Condon and Low were determined to have the Committee come to an "Anti-UFO" conclusion, no matter what the Committee's research revealed. McDonald (along with other prominent Ufologists) made fierce criticisms of the Committee's leadership and bias, but to no avail. The "Condon Report", published in 1969, couldn't find explanations for nearly one-third of the cases it examined, but Dr. Condon in his introduction to the Report flatly stated that UFO's didn't exist and that "serious science" had nothing to gain from studying the subject. Undaunted, McDonald wrote a number of detailed and thoughtful criticisms of the "Condon Report", most of which have been ignored by the larger scientific community and "Anti-UFO" critics. However, the "Condon Report" marked the beginning of the end for McDonald. His strong and forceful advocacy of UFOs as a serious subject worthy of scientific attention had earned him many critics in the scientific community, most of whom wanted only to ignore UFO cases and disliked having their "intellectual laziness" on the subject revealed by McDonald. Many of McDonald's scientific colleagues began to avoid him, and he was soon isolated within the mainstream scientific community. Even worse, McDonald ran afoul of Philip Klass, the editor of "Aviation Week" magazine and an even more vociferous UFO critic than Menzel. When McDonald shredded one of Klass's pet theories for UFO sightings in print - Klass argued that many UFOs were "plasma balls" caused by power lines, a theory which McDonald showed to have no basis in science - Klass went after McDonald personally in a brazen attempt to destroy his reputation. It was an unfair battle, for while McDonald limited himself to critiquing Klass's theories and "explanations" for UFO cases, Klass ignored McDonald's scientific arguments and concentrated on personal smears and innuendo. By 1970 McDonald's life was falling apart, partly from his "blackballing" by other scientists, partly from the vicious personal attacks by Klass, and partly from the fact that his crusade had left little time for his family, and his wife wanted a divorce. In 1971 came the final blow. McDonald was called to testify before a congressional committee on the new supersonic transport (SST), a plane which McDonald had studied and was convinced would harm the atmosphere. Although the subject had nothing to do with UFOs, and McDonald was not speaking on that topic, a sleazy New England Congressman who wanted the SST to be built (because it would bring jobs to the voters in his district) tried to discredit McDonald's criticisms of the SST by turning the hearing to a "discussion" of McDonald's belief in "little green men". This tactic caught McDonald completely by surprise, and although he tried to defend his UFO studies and pointed out that UFOs and the SST had nothing to do with each other, the Congressman repeatedly ridiculed McDonald and implied that anyone who "believed" in UFOs couldn't be trusted about their SST testimony. By the end of the hearing open laughter and ridicule of McDonald could be heard in the congressional chamber. In fact, McDonald's criticisms of the SST were supported by many other scientists and the project was eventually dropped. However, McDonald was personally devastated and humiliated by this totally unfair attack, and later in 1971 he walked into the Arizona desert and shot himself. His death was devastating to Ufology, as it lost one of its greatest leaders and spokesmen. As Druffel notes, many of his investigations and writings (especially his brilliant paper "Science in Default") remain the best of their kind in the study of UFOs, and have never been adequately rebutted by his critics. This is a superb, "traditional" biography, and should be read by anyone with even a passing interest in the UFO phenomenon. Unfortunately, it will probably never receive the attention it deserves, and in many ways "Firestorm" illustrates the reasons why Ufology has remained a fringe movement since McDonald's death. The book was written by Ann Druffel, and while she has done an excellent job with this biography, she has also published a number of "New Age" books of dubious merit. One of her books is entitled "How to Defend Yourself Against Alien Abductions", a title which (fairly or not) has received plenty of ridicule. Also, this book is published not by a traditional printing house, but by a very small "New Age" firm - which will unfortunately greatly limit its sales and ability to publicize McDonald's brilliant but tragic career. In short, "Firestorm" is a superb biography of a very brave, talented, and tragic figure - no
