Book Description

BASE 66 is the true, nerve-wracking account of three young skydivers and their quest for membership in the most select extreme sports club on earth: The BASE club. In order to become a full-fledged member, Jevto Dedijer, Bernard Poirier, and Scott Elder had to parachute from the top of a building, an antenna tower, a bridge and a cliff, and survive to tell the story--a feat only some 800 adrenaline addicted people have succeeded in doing.

In BASE 66, Jevto Dedijer tells the tale of his hunger for the ultimate adrenaline rush. He and his companions shared several near death experiences while traveling across Europe with their parachutes and beer in Bernard's dented Renault 4.

They were pioneers in a sport so dangerous that several of their fellow BASE jumpers died in action.

"BASE 66 is a fascinating story about life and death, terror and joy, and intimate friendship. It is an account of extraordinary people taking a step beyond the edge."

Yuri Kuznetsov--BASE 416

"Everyone will enjoy reading Jevto's thrilling and humorous tale of his fascinating BASE odyssey and his discovery of a way of life that surpasses artificial boundaries and provides lifelong inspiration."

Jean Boenish--BASE 3

5-0 out of 5 stars What base, adventure and life are all about!
As a base-jumper myself, I can highly recommend this book! Not just if you're a base-jumper, but also if you love reading about the adventures of other people. This book not only manages to capture the thrill and excitement of base-jumping (and in those days it was many times more exciting), but it also shows how ultimately the most important part is sharing these experiences with great friends. If you're a couch-potato, start by reading this book and then go outside, meet people, and go on adventures!

5-0 out of 5 stars A book made of friendship, adrenaline, paper and ink
This book is absolutely 'unputdownable'.
Mr. Dedijer has a writing style that reads like an old friend who's telling you what he's been up to since you last saw each other, it is gripping and feels personal.

I am a skydiver, not a BASE jumper, but Mr. Dedijer's narrative gave me an adrenaline rush as if I was making the jumps myself, reading this book actually had my heart racing at times.

Apart from the BASE jumping in the book, the underlying story is of a young man following his heart, taking on adventures with his friends. 'Adventures' is not a word used lightly here, since Mr. Dedijer and his friends can be considered pioneers in BASE jumping.

5-0 out of 5 stars gripping coming of age adventure novel
Base 66 is a thrilling portrait of three best friends and their quest to live beyond the boundries of the ordinary and the expected.Their pilgrimage leads them to take death-defying leaps off of office towers, bridges, cliffs and antennae in order to join a select group of extreme skydivers known as BASE jumpers.
A must-read!

Base 66 is not only a primer for extreme sports enthusiasts, it is also a coming-of-age novel along the lines of Kerouac or Salinger.Well-written and descriptive, it affords the reader a look-back( complete with sound track) at the lives of these young adventure-seekers in the early 80's --whose lives are richer today for their remarkable achievements and resultingstrong bonds of friendship.Every reader will be inspired to look for ways to go take the leap and go beyond the expected!

Book Description

Pushing the limits.

Extreme sports vigorously test the limits of an individual's strength, agility, and courage. One's adversary in these sports is not another athlete but the forces of nature, particularly gravity.

Extreme Sports celebrates the wild world of high adrenaline sports with concise profiles of forty-one sports. The sports range from bungee jumping to whitewater rafting. Each sport is described with lively text and illustrated with dynamic action photography.

The sports featured in Extreme Sports are organized alphabetically in three major sections:- Nine Air Sports: BASE jumping, ballooning, hang gliding, sky diving, sky surfing, etc. - Seventeen Land Sports: Ice climbing, ice yachting, mountain boarding, skateboarding, street luge, etc. - Fifteen Water Sports: Jetskiing, power boating, snorkeling, wakeboarding, windsurfing, etc.

Extreme Sports also features less known sports, such as freediving: a sport that requires participants to swim into the deepest reaches of the ocean carrying only the air they hold in their lungs. Freedivers have pushed the limits of unassisted breathing dives to go below 400 feet. The book includes an extensive list of books, magazines, associations and clubs that would-be extreme athletes can contact to obtain more information for each sport.

Although participating in extreme sports is clearly not for every sports enthusiast, Extreme Sports is. ... Read more

Book Description

Surfing is poetry. It is pure experience of the moment. Poetry attempts to capture that experience.

“A pioneering anthology of experiential verse and essays about riding waves first published in 1993 before surf books were in vogue. The second edition is physically enhanced and enriched, still all good stuff, worth the ring on your butt it will cause if you keep it in the bathroom.”
—Steve Pezman, Publisher of The Surfer’s Journal

“From the solitude of being alone on the water at daybreak, to the exhilaration of confronting nature with nothing but a board, the entire surfing experience is captured through poems and short prose pieces.”
—Joel Beers, Newport Daily Pilot

“The thrill and dangers of surfing and the bonds between those who search out the perfect wave…are not the only issues explored in the new poetry.”
—Robert Kinsler, Orange County Register ... Read more
